Finding love after loss sometimes take a little guidance.
There was one time in Sydney's life when she felt whole, good enough, loved. Although her relationship with Will lasted less than a year, it was everything. Now, she's a single mother, trying to give her son the life he deserves. It isn't easy, but she's always been independent and strong, and since losing Will, she's had more than a few opportunities to prove it. Especially when he appears and helps open her heart to Marine veteran Logan Carter.
Logan is a wanderer, a loner, and a ticking time bomb. The last thing he needs on his conscience is casualties. Everyone stays safe so long as he keeps his distance and never gets attached to anyone or any place. But there's something about Sydney and her son that makes staying seem a little less dangerous. And neither of them can ignore the guiding light that insists on bringing them together.
Take a look back at Sydney and Will's love story in the prequel novella, A JOURNEY WORTH TAKING . Sydney and Will's story continued in books 1-3 (Jackson's story): A JOURNEY SPARED , A JOURNEY TO LOVE, and A JOURNEY HOME . While book 4 is a standalone, The Journey Series is best read in order. Read the novella before book 1 or 4.
Content Warning: Loss/grief, PTSD and flashbacks, mentions of verbal abuse, steamy closed door romance, seeing ghost of a loved one, sick/dying parent, death of a parent, mild coarse language

"Alexandra Grace captures her readers' attention along with their heart through her unique approach to storytelling. Jackson is a true her worth rooting for, an instant book boyfriend...I haven't read a story like this in a long time." ~ Ellison Lane, Author
A Journey Beyond by Alexandra Grace is the 4th book in the series and I absolutely loved this story!! I haven’t read the other books in the series and I have to go back to read them. I loved the characters, how close and tight she made the friendships. ⚠️Trigger Warning this book deals with with some heavy topics such as suicide, ptsd, mental health, POW, grief, abuse, alcoholism and family estrangement.
Sydney is a single mom to the cutest little boy named William. She was married to Will a marine veteran who suffered from PTSD and lost his life to suicide. Even though he was gone Wills ghost was still very much a part of her story. She was supporting her best friends Jackson and Emily open VETS. Which gave vets the help they needed that they couldn’t get from the government. She had a bff from high school Nora, who I loved!! Sydney has been through so much in her life and she doesn’t give up.
Logan is an marine veteran who is struggling not just from PTSD, but with some demons from his past, he also doesn’t feel like he deserves to loved. He’s afraid to get close to get close to Sydney let alone be loved by her or feel his love for her. He’s constantly running away and her love is so unwavering, she is always there to let him know she’s not going anywhere. Williams innocence and unconditional love for Logan softens his heart too.
At first I was annoyed like if he keeps bailing and ghosting her why does she keep chasing after him. This story tugged at my heart strings and was such an nice change!! Family is not blood and Sydney’s family consisted of her friends and William. I loved how she incorporated Will into Sydney’s love story with Will I just won’t say how. Their story was so well written and with it being written in 3rd person I got to see and feel what they were each going through all of the raw emotions they. I love a book that can make you feel like you are part of the story. Thank you to Alexandra Grace for letting me read this ARC in exchange for my honest review. I loved it!!! Go read it!! Well maybe start with book 1 and work your way to book 4.
when i started this book i was already in love, my heart broke for the FMC and i was so excited that i wanted to read it in one sitting, but unfortunately i have to say that the "romance" was boring, so i lost more and more interest and it took me a while to finish reading it.
what i liked here was that we not only learned about the struggles of a single mother, but also the struggles of a mother struggling with grief.
💌- thank you to the author for the arc in exchange for an honest review.
Heavy topics so check TWs but everything was handled/written so well. I have not read the others but this can stand alone, may enjoy it more if you read the others? It was a nicely woven read of a single mom and marine .. wow is this a powerful story.
I received this ARC for an honest review, all thoughts/opinions above are my own!
Alexandra Grace ripped my heart out and put it back together multiple times throughout this book. I shed tears for both Logan and Sydney, felt their unconditional love, and melted over the sense of family. A Journey Beyond is BEAUTIFUL in so many ways. I could hardly keep my emotions in check.
One of my top reads of 2023, highly recommend reading!!
This is an interconnected standalone in the Journey Series. When I started reading this, I hadn't read books 1-3(I have since), but I did read the prequel novella A Journey Worth Taking, which was excellent. This is the story of Sydney and Logan. Both have been through a lot in their lives. Sydney is dealing with the fallout of losing the love of her life and father of her son, William. Logan is recovering after leaving the military after being captured for months. They are drawn together, but Logan has demons and doesn't think he is anything good for Sydney and William. Sydney is someone who does not give up. I realize that this is a standalone, but reading the first 3 books helps understand her friendships and family on another level. The story is well written and characters are well developed and hold your interest. You'll be wanting their stories as well. It was emotional and worth the ride. I look forward to reading more from this author.
A Journey Beyond By: Alexandra Grace ⭐️5/5 | 🌶️ 2/5 | Healing Veteran | Single Mom | Found Family | Family Dynamics | Love After Loss | TW: PTSD, Grief, Suicide
Wow. This book brought out every possible emotion; it managed to rip me apart again and again at the same time put me back together piece by piece. Beautifully written! A story about love and loss, grief, rebuilding, healing, resilience and perseverance. There’s so much to take away from this. I highly suggest reading “A Journey Worth Taking”, the prequel novella to this because it will give you a much better and deeper understanding of our FMC Sydney. With so much to unpack, and it will give you the needed insight without getting overwhelmed with all the different facets in the book.
I want to get one thing out of the way, I will definitely be reading the Journey Trilogy because Jackson Vane, Sir, you have my full attention! Gah, I read this in one sitting you guys! You know how I feel about a wounded hero / tortured MMC, I couldn’t breathe just thinking about the very mysterious, hot and cold Logan Carter. A Veteran who was a prisoner of war, a man of few words and someone constantly battling his inner demons, I couldn’t get enough of him! I just wanted to envelope him in the biggest hug and shower him with all the love I can. I felt every struggle, panic, and pain. His constant departures would irk some readers, but I understood it. The little moments we get when he was positive and happy, the little flirtatiousness and nuances, even in the restraint he held, it was EVERYTHING.
Our sweet, strong, and patient Sydney. The woman is a saint. I couldn’t help but root for her as she has been thru so much for her age, yet she was resilient and paved her own path. I loved how she was able to hold her own and wore her heart on her sleeve. Her love for William was heartwarming and perfect, and his interactions with his Uncle Jax and Logan made my heart swell.
The character development was amazing! The found family aspect was one of my favorites coz of how an incredible support system they were for Sydney. I felt the rawness and honesty in this book that you will feel invested in their stories.
A Journey Beyond is a beautiful story of love and loss.
The author recommended reading A Journey Worth Taking before starting this book, and so I did. You can find my review of that novella online, but what I didn't say is that it wrecked me. It tells the story of how Sydney and Will found each other, and clearly illustrates the intensity of their love. It also leaves readers with a heartbreaking cliffhanger ending.
Reading A Journey Beyond filled in the blanks as to what came next, and although I can't say I was surprised, I can say that what occurred was somewhat unexpected. While it closed the chapter on that epic love, it also started a new chapter where Sydney is a young mother to a 2 and a half year old boy. She's had a very challenging couple of years, but has found her way to the other side with the help of her friends and found family. Little William is her world and while she sometimes wishes things could have been different, she has no regrets because this beautiful child with a heart of gold is in her life, and that is enough.
Sydney isn't looking for love. She was fortunate to have had one great love, which is more than most. But then Logan Carter comes into her life. He is a veteran who struggles with PTSD. He does his best to keep to himself, and live a nomadic life without attachments. Not only are the two drawn to each other, but there appears to be a higher power pushing them together.
Life isn't perfect. It is messy and hard and it often hurts. Sometimes though, two people find each other amid the mess, and complement each other; in providing what the other needs they make the journey a little less challenging, and more enjoyable. Sydney and Logan may have been guided to one another, but it is Sydney's patience, persistence, and perseverance that bring them together. Her behaviour is a true testament to love. It would have been much easier to walk away but she chose to follow her heart.
Thank you Ms. Grace for giving Sydney the HEA she richly deserves!
This was my first book by this author and I enjoyed it. Although, third person isn’t my favorite way to read, I thought the author did a great job with showing who’s perspective you’re reading from while understanding their thoughts and feelings.
These two are broken souls who just need to find their way. They both have been through heart ache and pain and deserved to find love. Logan was fighting his demons daily, knew that he wanted to be better and Sydney made him that way. The connection he had with her wasn’t something he could find with anyone else. Sydney had been through hell after losing her first real love and father to her son. But the attraction she had with Logan wasn’t something she could ignore, not matter how much she tried. Logan might have seemed damaged and hard to be with Sydney but the more time they spent together the easier it was. Seeing Logan will William was heartwarming and showed a softer side to him with her child.
This book deals with some very heavy topics in regards to grief, discussion of suicide, self harm, mental health issues including ptsd and being a POW. But these factors make the story what it is. Heart felt, raw, emotional and beautiful. I didn’t read the books prior, which wasn’t necessary, but I would recommend it.
ARC Book Review A Journey Beyond A Novel Written By Alexandra Grace Fiction Published September 29, 2023 435 Pages ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is Book 4 in the author’s Journey Series. Alexandra Grace writes about veterans, for veterans, and for awareness for veterans. This book can be read as a standalone, but I strongly recommend reading all the books in the series. You will not be disappointed.
A Journey Beyond is Sydney and Logan’s story. Several characters from the other books in the series are prominently featured: Jackson, Emily, Genevieve, and Ben.
Sydney and Logan are two individuals who have endured difficult situations and can help each other heal. Sydney is a single mother who has recently lost the father of her child who was the love of her life. Logan is an ex-marine who was a prisoner of war. He is suffering from PTSD. Sydney is ready to love again. She wants to be the light that guides Logan through the darkness he is struggling with. Logan is a broken man with baggage. He wants to make himself better before giving his heart to Sydney and her young son, William.
Can these two find another chance at forever with each other? Will Logan open his heart and let Sydney in?
The author’s writing brought me to tears as the story progressed. This series brings acceptance and empathy for veterans and their struggles.
“I mean that I’m trying to be the man you deserve…the person you believe me to be. And I hope I can get there.”
Thank you so much to Alexandra for the arc, it’s been amazing🥰
This is the 4th book in a series but can also be read as a stand alone. i really liked this, everything from the super loveable characters and all of the amazing friendships. Please be aware that this does deal with heavy topics so please check the trigger warnings 🫶🏻
Our fmc Sydney is a single mum, with the most adorable little boy. She was married to a marine veteran who suffered from PTSD and lost his life to suicide. Sydney supports her best friends so much despite going through so much.
Our mmc Logan is a marine veteran who struggles with PTSD aswell as demons from his past. He is afraid to get close to Sydney, and he can’t even fathom love - he felt he doesn’t deserve it 🥹
Alexandra dealt with the tough topics so well, being respectful while also showing the real side to these too. This book shattered my heart to pieces and fixed it back together again. You could feel the unconditional love between Sydney and Logan and the sense of family was so heartwarming throughout. Highly recommend if you haven’t already given the book or series a go💗
🌸 single mom 🤍 sweet with steam 🌸 found family 🤍 healing veteran 🌸 character focused
I would like to thank the author for providing me with an ARC copy of this book. The cover photo of the book is so beautiful.
Alеxandra Graсe made mе fееl еvеry emоtiоn with her words. I cried and smiled with Logan and Sydney, witnessed their pure lоve, and аdmired their sense оf family. A Journey Beyоnd is a MAGNIFICЕNT story that touched my heart. I wаs ovеrwhеlmеd by the fееlings it evоked in mе. I really loved the writing skills of the author. It is both captivating and engaging. I felt very cozy while reading it.
Sydnеy hаs bееn through а devаstаting loss, but she is not giving uр оn love. In this book, yоu will follow her journey оf hеаling аnd finding а nеw chаncе аt hаppiness. Тhis is а story оf romаnce, pаssiоn, аnd courаge, with somе steаmy scenes аnd somе sensitive topiсs. If yоu аre looking fоr а рowerful аnd emotiоnаl reаd, yоu will love this book by Alexаndrа Grаce. It is pаrt оf the Jоurney Series, but it cаn аlso bе reаd аs а stаndаlоne. Dоn't miss this аmаzing series!
Sydney has known so much loss in her young life; the love of her life Will took his own life after dealing with PTSD from his military service, her parents disowned her for her choice to be with Will and refused to have anything to do with her or her son. However, she is a survivor, she has a strong relationship with her son, with Will’s family and her friends that have become her family. Logan is a Marine veteran who is working to manage his PTSD and trying to let people into his life and learning to trust again. Sydney and Logan can’t deny how much they care about each other and how they drawn they are to each other, but as Sydney tries to get closer, Logan struggles not to let the negative thoughts push him away from her.
I thought this book was so sweet. It can be read as a standalone (which I did) but I really want to go back and read the other books to get the full story of all the characters. I would actually love to learn more about Logan’s story. He suffered through so much but ultimately always tried to do the right thing. You find yourself rooting for them because you can tell their love is sincere. I recommend this book!
The Journey Series is definitely a powerful story that touched on some really great topics. This story felt like so much more when all the little pieces you learned along the way came together so nicely. I definitely recommend reading the other books in the story because they were all so equally great.
The first book I read in the series was the prequel novella and then I went on to Jackson’s story which I really loved. After the loss of a love one I didn’t understand how the author could make me fall in love with another person but she did so effortlessly. Sydney’s and Logan’s story felt real ,emotional and showed both their resilience to never give up on each other it gave hope to people after losing someone. I felt like this book really showed how complicated life after the military can be and there is always hope for the future even if that journey may not always be straightforward. Before reading definitely check the trigger warnings. To Alexandra I want to thank you for the opportunity to Arc read and fall in love with these characters.

Sydney's time with Will is something she will always treasure. He taught her how to love, how to be loved and just how a man should treat her. But losing him to PTSD and then finding out she was pregnant has been the hardest thing she has ever had to go through. She is strong, she is a survivor. And surviving is all she now knows how to do.
Working at Jackson's non-profit for struggling veterans has given her a purpose in life. She loves her friends, her job and being back in Richmond. But everyday is a struggle. It's been three years since Will took his life and all she can do is push on for little William.
But when Logan stumbles into her life, Sydney has hope for the future. She is broken, but so is he. His trauma is still something that weighs heavy on him and Logan feels like he needs to find himself first so that he can give Sydney everything she deserves. It's a hard journey but Sydney knows that Logan was meant for her, Will lead her to him and she won't give up on him.
My thoughts: This series has such a grip on my heart. The entire Journey series is heartbreaking and beautiful and just shows you that there is always light at the end of a tunnel. Sydney is such a beautiful soul, her patience and kindness is unmatched. She is so caring and Logan deserves every ounce of it. This book had me in tears so many times, I have felt Sydney's loss since book one and to finally see her taking back her life is a beautiful thing. Logan has so much trauma but he is perfect for her in the end. He is so unlike Will in so many ways but when it comes to Sydney, they are exactly the same. He loves her and little William. I am shattered that this series has come to an end, I love all these characters so much. @authoralexandragrace I cannot wait for what's next! 😍
A Journey Beyond is such a heartfelt and wonderful story. Sydney is a single mom, after losing her boyfriend Will , and trying to find her happiness. When she starts seeing Will at her work in ghostly form, she realizes every time he appears it leads her to Logan, her friend and military vet. Logan suffers from his own demons from military life, but they immediately have a connection. All the moments they were together were so sweet. You felt the connection right away , and every time Logan wandered Sydney never gave up on him. After all she had been through, she pushes on and fights for Logan. I really admired all her strength! I also loved the notion of found family. Sydney’s family are all her friends , friends of hers and Wills and they are always there for her and her son when her own family shuts her out. They always support her and it’s so warming to see. Before reading, it would help to read the prequel novella A Journey Worth Taking. You get Sydney’s backstory and get to see her limited time with Will. Thank you to Alexandra Grace for the ARC copy of A Journey Beyond . I thoroughly enjoyed Sydney’s story!
I would like to thank Alexandra Grace for this ARC of A Journey Beyond (Book Four in the Journey Series). I really enjoyed this book! There are some heavy topics talked about in the book. For example, some of the trigger warnings are, PTSD, flashbacks, mental health, self-harm, sickness, death, grief, and seeing a ghost of a loved one. I enjoyed Sydney's story. She is a single mom doing her best to give her son the life he deserves. After she lost Will, her boyfriend and father to her son, she met Logan. Logan is a Marine veteran who has a few issues of his own that he has been trying to fight ever since the military. Sydney helps Logan along the way and falls for him. Logan also falls for Sydney and her son. This story can be a little heavy and emotional due to some of the topics, but it was written so well. This book can be read as a standalone. However, to understand better, The Journey Series should be read in order. I would recommend if you are interested in grumpy/sunshine, open door, and medium steam. Also, if you are okay with some coarse language, casual drinking, and trigger warnings. I cannot wait to see what Alexandra has in store next! ❤️❤️❤️
What a heartfelt story of finding love after loss! I love the connection Sydney and Logan had! Their love story was sweet and I could relate to the struggles they both had along their way to each other. It was an emotional book and I definitely cried! There are many sensitive topics like PTSD, talk of suicide/self harm, prisoner of war.
Tropes: found family, grumpy/sunshine, single mom, friends to lovers
What a sweet book that shows what it’s like to love someone with PTSD from serving their country. The only thing I didn’t like was the third person POV, but otherwise I was sucked in to this story right from the beginning. After reading the novella and knowing that this book would have so much heartache to be built back up with love, I was given exactly what I expected. I love Logan and Sydney’s story!
A Journey Beyond is book 4 in author Alexandra Grace’s Journey Series. This is Sydney’s story. Sydney is a strong, hardworking single mom. I love how well developed her character is. She loves reading, wildflowers, and can make some amazing fudge. And her son, William, is a two and a half year old spitfire who keeps his mom on her toes. We also meet Logan. He’s a former Marine and Prisoner of War. He’s a simple man with a past that he struggles with.
If you’ve followed the Journey Series, then you know about Sydney’s loss. This is her story of finding love after loss. There’s a little bit of steam, nothing graphic. There’s also talk of PTSD so check the trigger warnings.
I can’t even begin to describe how amazing this whole series is. Alexandra Grace makes you feel so deeply for her characters and their lives. These are beautiful stories that are being told. It’s an amazingly powerful, heartfelt journey. Go read this series!!!!🌸
What a whirl wind of emotions. I cannot explain the tornado 🌪️ of emotions I went threw in this book. I would be heartbroken for them and then happy and then mad and even all 3 at the same time. There was some serious healing going on in their story. It’s refreshing to see ptsd shown in both lights of healing and not it shows what can happen on both sides. I would definitely recommend this book and I wish I could read it for the first time again.
Not much of a fan of 3rd person books, but this one was worth it! Had me feeling all sorts of things from irritation to happiness, giddy like a school girl, and crying. I'm so happy Sydney got her HEA finally after everything she has been through.
Make sure you check trigger warnings as some topics discussed throughout the book are heavy!

This was a very good book but a heavy topics so check your TWs please. This book ripped my heart out and made me cry a few time for both Logan and Sydney. I would have to thank the author for the letting me Arc read this book for you.
This book has some heavy topics, but it was handled very well and was beautifully written. It will rip your heart out for sure in this powerful story about Sydney and Logan, but it will also make you smile as well. I really enjoyed reading this book. Make sure you check out the TW before jumping into this one.
I received this book in return for an honest review.
This is a beautifully written story, I very much recommend reading the novella before this one detailing Sydney and Will’s story to truly feel the emotion running through this novel.
I haven’t read the other 3 stories in the series however, I feel as though I am going to have to.
I was connected to the characters within a matter of chapters, especially Logan. Even on first meeting in this story, I instantly felt his emotion come through.
The story is beautiful as well, pulling on your heart strings throughout. The thought in this book is beautiful, and I could really empathise with the characters.
I do not usually read third person stories, as I don’t often find them compelling. However, this book truly pulled me in.
If you want a romantic story with some heavy themes, give this book a go, as I’m sure you will not regret it!
This was my first time reading anything from this author and I can say that I am so satisfied by her writing. If you don’t mind third person (which someone who hasn’t read anything in third person) i definitely recommend.❤️It was such a lovely book❤️
Firstly a thank you to Alexandra for allowing me the privilege of reading this ARC . Having not read the previous books or novellas I was worried I wouldn’t be able to connect but boy I was wrong !
This book and Sydney and Logan’s journey had me hooked right from the start - I read it in one go - this truly was a Do not disturb read!
A beautifully written story of allowing yourself to love again after loss , letting go of guilt for feeling alive again . The book is written from Both Sydney’s and Logan’s perspective which works so well - I could imagine myself there , you really know how to pull on emotions.
Sydney being a single mom after dealing with suicide of a loved one , Logan also being a Vet and one of her deceased boyfriends comrades brings sone guilt at first and inner turmoil from both parties . Logan coming with his own baggage in the form of PTSD and being scared of hurting Sydney or her little boy William … how live revolves around a centre for Vet’s helping with their rehabilitation .
Brilliant book , I could go on but do not want to spoil it - really enjoyed it and intrigued as to where the characters go next 😊.

This book tore me up and pieced me back together, one page at a time. It was so hard to read what happened to Will, but to know that Logan was there waiting for her…even if he didn’t know it, and needed help working through his pain, before he could accept that he was meant to be with her…made this story of healing, such an amazing read. I’m so honored that I was able to read this ARC, and I’m definitely reading Alexandra Grace’s backlist!

Lovedddddd this book! After reading the novella, “A Journey Worth Taking” I was so excited for this book. (I recommend reading the novella, it will really adds to the story & is a quick read). I was immediately immersed in the story. I cried, laugh, smiled, swooned. Sydney is one tough girl and she knows what she wants. I admire her heart and her growth. I read through this book so fast because I wanted to know what happened next. This book is a truly a wonderful book. A five star read🥰. It’s not a typical romance, it has its problems..but it’s because those problems we see a lot of character growth. Which overall flows into a wonderful story 🌸 Definitely read this, you won’t regret it!
