EXCERPT: Madeline couldn't believe what she was seeing. 'Mom, what are you doing here?' she asked, her eyes wide.
'I came here to save you from yourself,' her mother said, walking past her into the house.
She hadn't seen her mother in years. A part of her had felt guilty about that at times, but when someone was so critical of all your life choices, no matter how successful you were, you just couldn't have them in your life.

ABOUT 'CHRISTMAS IN JUBILEE': From the golden hues of October to the twinkling lights of December, Christmas In Jubilee unfolds in a town where the holiday season is a tapestry of love, second chances, and unexpected reunions. Madeline's tranquil mountain life is upended when her estranged mother, Eloise, arrives just as the town prepares for its annual holiday extravaganza. Meanwhile, Frannie comes back to Jubilee, inheriting not just her grandmother's home but also a retail space that could become the bakery of her dreams. Yet, the past has a way of catching up, especially when her high school sweetheart reappears, as unpredictable as an early snowfall. This heartwarming tale takes you on a journey through family complexities and romantic possibilities, all wrapped in the joy and nostalgia of the holiday season.

MY THOUGHTS: I wanted to like this a whole lot more than I did. I really enjoyed the beginning where Madeline is thrown off balance by having her estranged mother turn up on her doorstep, clearly expecting to stay.

The story progresses from there in a stop-start fashion. Madeline's story is interspersed with that of Frannie, and I really don't know why. The two women don't know each other and don't become friends or even acquaintances. They merely have a friend in common. Instead of two unconnected stories taking place, the author would have been better off concentrating on one plot and giving it more depth.

The dialogue is stilted and mostly unrealistic - I don't know anyone who talks like the characters in this novel do.

The other big negative for me was the audiobook narrator. She had a perfectly nice voice, but her timing was off. She paused in the middle of sentences and rushed through the ends of sentences into the next ones with no regard for the full stop. Several times I had to rewind and relisten to passages.

Parts of this book worked really well, and I was more invested in Madeline's relationship difficulties with her mother than in the romantic aspects of either story which tended towards cheesy and sappy a lot of the time.

Perhaps this book would have been better as two novellas, or a connection between Madeline and Frannie could have been forged. There was a lot of unrealised potential in this plot. Rachel Hanna has written a lot better than this.

⭐⭐.8

THE AUTHOR: Rachel Hanna is a lifelong resident of north Georgia. She writes women’s fiction, clean contemporary small town romance and stories about Southerners. Her quirky characters and emotional storylines are a favorite of readers.

She’s been married for over 24 years and has three kids, all of whom are technically adults but still need money sometimes. 🙂 In addition, she has two rescue doggies and one very snotty outdoor cat who truly believes he owns the place.

CHRISTMAS IN JUBILEE is not the first book by Rachel Hanna that I have read and I’m so happy I got a chance to read this heart warming story. CHRISTMAS IN JUBILEE is going to make you want to run to Jubilee and help these people out! Rachel Hanna is a fantastic author and you can’t go wrong with anything she writes. This is one of those novels that is hard to step away from. Rachel Hanna managed to captivate me with her storytelling. I love how her characters feel completely real and are not cookie-cutter or perfect. She broke my heart with them over and over again.

CHRISTMAS IN JUBILEE is a wonderful story full of faith and redemption. Once you start reading, it will be very hard to stop. CHRISTMAS IN JUBILEE is about a best selling romance author, Madeline. She is very surprised when she opens her front door, to find her mother standing there. To say their relationship is strained would be a huge understatement. Eloise comes across as rather snooty and looks down on everything Madeline does or says. Can their relationship be repaired enough for the two women to have a civil conversation? You will have to read this heart warming story to find out. No spoilers from me! You will also meet Frannie. Her grandmother passed away and left Frannie her home as well as a letter filled with her hopes and dreams. Her grandmother never got to fulfill her dreams herself so Frannie will try to make them come true.

Rachel Hanna has quickly become one of my favorite authors. She made me feel so many different things while I was reading her heart tugging story. One minute I’m giggling and the next there is a huge lump in my throat. The themes she weaves in are wonderful reminders that we only have this one life to live. Also, we need to remember to follow our dreams and not be afraid of what others might think. All of the characters are flawed in different ways, but you will find yourself cheering for them throughout CHRISTMAS IN JUBILEE. I just wanted to reach in the pages and give them all hugs. The end of the story is filled with redemption, love and a renewed sense of hope, which rounds out this lovely story perfectly. I can’t wait to read more by this wonderful author.

When I read this author's books, I really do feel transported to the town she writes about. Her character development, story lines and community really make me want to move in and get to know the people of the town. I live in a very small community and sometimes I think that helps me to see what her towns are like. Christmas in Jubilee was devoured over a weekend and then when it was done, I felt like something was missing. The bulk of the story is a woman and her mother trying to reconnect after harsh words were spoken and lives were separated. As a Mom of daughters, this story line spoke to me in such an eye-opening way. The way these two found their way back to each other was heart felt for me. Sometimes all mothers say something they cannot take back. This book was a reminder that apologies speak volumes. In the midst of their drama, the community came to life as they celebrated fall, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Such a wonderful book and I recommend her books to everyone who will listen. Since my suggestion to the author helped form the name of the bakery, I will probably keep this book for a long time. Thanks to Rachel Hanna for giving me the opportunity to see an ARC of this wonderful book.

‘Christmas in Jubilee’ has small town charm and heartfelt family reunion, two things that are lovely to find in a Christmas tale, but the writing style didn’t work for me. It oftentimes felt overwritten and awkward, and the dialogue didn’t sound like the way real people speak.

Madeleine’s mother has never respected her career as a romance author, but after attending a book signing the mother apologizes and understands the career. This transformation occurs in about a paragraph, so it doesn’t feel earned or true.

The story is told as a split tale between two women, Madeleine and Frannie, in alternating chapters. The stories are only loosely related, so instead of reading one cohesive story it felt like reading two books at the same time. I would have preferred them as stacked novellas, one first and then the other, instead.

All in all, this wasn’t my favorite Christmas story. That said, I Jubilee is a cozy small town and the story is easy reading. The story would work in place of an evening spent with a Hallmark movie, so ultimately it does what it came to do (even if I would have preferred a bit more finesse).

Thanks, NetGalley and Rachel Hanna, for the gifted ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is book 3 of the author's Jubilee series, but you don't need to read the first two to follow along (I haven't read either, nor any of her other books). I am not sure if this book felt rushed and superficial to me because it was a shorter Christmas story, or if all her books are like this, but the book was generally full of platitudes and super basic character development. It also didn't feel super Christmasy, given that the timeline started before October, and equal time was spent on a Harvest Festival and Thanksgiving. Madeline's mom comes to visit, and they have been estranged for a long time (how long is not really defined). Her mom is super critical of everything and they talk to each other the way a 17 year old would talk to her 45 year old mom, not like they are 55/78. I.e., their relationship felt extremely immature As they make up, the "real" reason for the visit comes to light, and the reaction is so childish and petty I found myself forgetting how old they were supposed to be. It almost felt like a YA book.

Based on a super quick synopsis review of books 1 and 2, it looks like Madeline, 55, is the series main character, and book 2 had a secondary character's story as did book 3. In this book we have a Fannie, 30, whose grandma passed away and left her a house and a store, return to town and reconnect with her old boyfriend. The story takes place in the same town but does not overlap at all with Madeline's story. The transitions between the two on audio were very abrupt and it went back and forth a lot. I think alternative chapters would have been cleaner, or just have two separate books since they really didn't have anything to do with each other.

The book felt like a cozy Hallmark movie, sure, but the best part is the author was sure to have BOTH characters say that their lives felt like a cozy Hallmark movie. So, in case you weren't already feeling it, you will get beat over the head with it after a day of Christmas activities.

I hope that her non-seasonal books have a bit more depth. For all my criticisms, I'd be willing to listen to one just to find out. Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC.

I've heard good things about Rachel Hanna and decided I would give her book a try. Now, it is the 3rd in the Jubilee series, but it was okay as a standalone. I do want to read the first two though to get the full backstory. Madeline Harper is a romance author who is estranged from her mother. Her mother is sarcastic with her about her career and life choices. She moved to Jubilee to get a new outlook/perspective and change her writing style to small town romance. When her mother, Eloise, shows up at her door, she isn't sure what to do. Meanwhile there is a second storyline, Frannie, a nurse, who just lost her grandmother and has inherited her home in Jubilee. She has taken off from work in order to get her grandma's house in order, but while there she realized how much she loved the small town and maybe, just maybe, she may find happiness in the small town.

The story is told from both women's POV. At times I found it quite disjointed and it never really came together. I enjoyed both women's stories and would like to know more about them and Jubilee, so will go back and read the first two books. There is heartache, grief, hurt, anger, reconciliation, eye opening, developing respect and more in this story. I listened to this one and was sorely disappointed with the audio. I found the narrator, Anne Smith seemed to be reading this for the first time. She paused where it didn't seem pauses should go and rushed through other spots. The chapters seemed to run into one another. I will read the others, not listen, as this one didn't work in audio format for me.

Christmas in Jubilee is my favorite in this series! I gave it a solid 4-star rating. It’s a quick, heartwarming read with a story that’s both charming and meaningful. While the holiday itself isn’t the main focus, it beautifully serves as a backdrop to bring family together and strengthen relationships. The depth of the character connections and the cozy, feel-good vibe make it a delightful addition to the series. If you’re looking for a story that balances heartfelt moments with a touch of holiday cheer, this one is a perfect choice!

I loved Madeline’s story and I loved Frannie’s story, but I don’t know why they were in the same book. I feel like Frannie’s story didn’t get enough time, and it would have been cool if they each had their own book and the characters met in some way in the second book. Or maybe not at all. Like I don’t think it was necessary. Honestly, it was just distracting.

Ehhh ...I really like the town and the setting. I like the supporting characters. Each of these books has two storylines. A new character and the character from the first book. In this book, it feels like too much of the book was focused on Madeleine ( from the first book) rather than the new character that was introduced. I feel like character thoughts were repeated over and over again. And Madeline is very immature for a 55 year old woman.

I must admit that I went into this book expecting a Hallmark movie in book form, but that's not at all what I got. There were aspects of this that worked for me: the friendships, the community of Jubilee, a redemption arc between the MC and her mother, and a sweet, chaste romance. However, this book didn't work for me, overall. I don't know whether to attribute that to the audiobook's narrator or it being third in a series, as I have not read any of the others. My biggest issues, narration wise, were the jumps from Madeline to Frannie- they often left me dazed as they happened so quickly, with no audible separation for me to adjust. Also, I felt like some of the relationship resolutions happened unreasonably fast, as in within a very short conversation. Hurts that have built up over a lifetime do not resolve that quickly. I am interested to see how this books fits in the series, as I don't think it works as a stand-alone, but I must admit that I was not reeled in enough to go back to the others.

I got to read an advanced copy of this book, and I give it 5 stars!! I was sucked in right from the beginning and couldn't put it down! Straight from a scene of a Hallmark movie, Christmas in Jubilee is a clean, sweet romantic read mixed with a story of forgiveness and healing. Rachel Hanna's books are ones I come back to again and again.

This is third in the Jubilee series and we follow the festive time from October to Christmas.

In Book 1 “Welcome to Jubilee” we are introduced to romance author Madeline Harper whose marriage is falling apart and isn’t excited about writing another romance. Her agent suggested a stay in the tiny mountain town of Jubilee, Georgia located in the Blue Ridge Mountains?

In Book #2 “All Tucked Inn” Lanelle Callaway, the steadfast matriarch is determined to have her daughter Heather take over the Inn. However Heather is happy in Atlanta.

Now n Book #3 “Christmas in Jubilee”, we continue to follow Madeline Harper. She, of course, has adjusted to Jubilee and changing her writing style from big city romance to country slower pace living romances. She loves the people and is excited for the holiday season to begin.
That is until her estranged mother Eloise shows up on her doorstop. Her mother has always been very critical of any and all of Madeline’s choices.

We are introduced to Frannie who inherited the family’s home and downtown retail space -which Frannie hopes to convert to a bakery.
Imagine her surprise when a high school sweetheart shows up at her door.
I did enjoy this. I love a good Christmas story.
Don’t want to be negative about a story that was a nice enjoyable read but I thought it should be just Christmas.
Fall is a unique time; fall activities are very different than Christmas activities and deserve its own story - fun activities such as Octoberfest, football games and Homecoming, as well as all the fall harvest festivals/activities.
Perhaps next year’s story will be “Fall in Jubilee”!

Want to thank NetGalley and Dreamscape Select for this early audiobook.

Christmas in Jubilee by Rachel Hanna -Review

For anyone who has read and loved other books by Rachel Hanna you will not be disappointed! For those who haven’t read any of her books yet, and enjoy small towns, holidays and second chances, you are in for a treat! I must warn you though, you will end up binge reading her other books too! They are all so heartwarming with great characters and places you will want to run off to!

In Christmas in Jubilee, we continue to follow Madeline. She is a successful author and had moved to Jubilee after falling in love with the people and the small mountain town while researching for her new book. Fall is in the air, and Madeline is excited for the holiday season to begin, that is until her estranged mother Eloise shows up on her doorstop with luggage in hand after years apart. Will her unexpected new visitor ruin her holiday plans? Or can they reconcile some of their hard feelings and enjoy their time together?

You will also meet Frannie. Her grandmother passed away and left Frannie her home as well as a letter filled with her hopes and dreams. She had never been able to fulfill this dream herself, but now has passed this dream on to Frannie in hopes that she may make it come true. Maybe with the help of her high school sweetheart Cole, she will be able to make Nana’s dream a reality.

Since I am not one to retell the story, or give spoilers, I will leave it there. As with all of Rachel Hanna’s books this newest one did not disappoint, I loved it as much as all her others. If you love small towns, holidays, and a sprinkling of sweet romance you are going to love this one too!

This is the 3rd installment of the Julee series and it is another great book by Rachel Hanna. I just love Rachel's books. They always make you smile and feel good. They make you believe that anything is possible

The story follows us through the festive period from October to the New Year. It’s a tale of family unity and a second chance at love. When Madeline’s mother, Eloise, shows up unannounced at her doorstep, her life is turned upside down. She and her mother didn’t have the best relationship, so what could she want?

We’re also introduced to a new character: Frannie. Her grandmother passed away, and Frannie inherited the family’s home and some downtown retail space. Frannie spent a lot of time with her grandmother growing up and even went to high school there. She decides to stay in Jubilee and live in her grandmother’s house and pursue her dream of owning a bakery. Imagine her surprise when a high school sweetheart shows up at her door.

It's a story about second chances, family, small town community and love. It's a story that will bring a smile to your face and make you laugh. I recommend reading the first two books before this one so you can get to know the characters and fall in love with them as I have. Every single one of Rachel’s books makes me want to move to the fictional town they are set in. The landscapes are always beautiful , but it’s the friendships that turn into families that I really love.

This is the third book in The Jubilee Series. This book picks up and continues with the story of romance author Madeline Harper, who has moved to the small town of Jubilee, Georgia, in the Blue Ridge mountains. Rachel Hanna brings Madeline's story to life again when Madeline's mother, Eloise, shows up at her doorstep unannounced after a long estrangement. The story unfolds, and we see Eloise and Madeline learning to navigate their tenuous relationship. Eloise doesn't understand why Madeline divorced her husband, writes silly romance novels, or has moved to the middle of nowhere to this small-town life. She is constantly picking at Madeline and making snide remarks about how she should find another line of work. We find Jasmine and Annie drawing Eloise into their little family, though, and she soon finds that small-town living isn't so terrible after all.

Frannie has moved back to Jubilee, Georgia, to clean out her Grandmother's house after her passing; however, she's in for some surprises when she finds that her Grandmother has left her something very special so she could fulfill a lifelong dream that the two of them had. Frannie also reconnects with a long-lost love Cole who just up and disappeared from Frannie's life after high school leaving her heartbroken and alone.

Join the residents of Jubilee and see what small-town life is all about, family and friendships. I can't wait until the next book is out for this series.

This is the third book in an ongoing series, which I didn’t realize at first, but I was still able to follow along just fine. Although I did get the feeling that I’d be more invested in some of the characters (or the town of Jubilee in general) if I had started from book one. The story is split into two main plots, one following 55-year-old Madeline as she struggles with mending her relationship with her mom, and the other follows Frannie who inherits her grandmother’s house and is dealing with past hurt. Both stories take place in the same town at the same time, but they never connect, and I found that strange. Both stories had beautiful messages that centered on forgiveness, love, and new beginnings, but their complete separation made it hard for me to fully invest in either story. I also was a little thrown off by how little of the timeline takes place at Christmas, as it was mostly autumn until the end. Overall it was still an easy and very quick listen of a small town cozy story with a bit of clean romance. Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Select for the audio ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Christmas in Jubilee
By: Rachel Hanna
Narrated by: Anne Smith

Book ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5 stars
Narration ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5 stars

Oh this delightfully sweet and charming Christmas novel. Jubilee Georgia is my kind of town, I would love to go visit the bookstore, bakery and see those Mountain Views. The characters were so relatable and down to earth. This book was full of finding community and healing relationships. The characters were so relatable, I truly enjoyed getting to know each one of them. They seemed like people I would like to be friends with.

The book switched from Madeline to Frannie telling their stories. At times it was a little hard to tell who they were talking about. It may have just been an audiobook thing, but at times it was a bit confusing. It didn’t bother me enough to make me stop listening.
The narrator Anne Smith did a fantastic job!! She has such a sweet and soft voice. It’s very soothing. This was such an upbeat, perky performance that will keep surely keep you engaged. I absolutely loved this Christmas story. I highly recommend this book.

I loved the small town setting and found both female leads very relatable. Their individual stories were great, but I wasn’t sure why they were both told in the same book - maybe there is a connection that I’m missing as I haven’t read the previous two books in the series? The book switches between events in both Madeline and Frannie’s lives frequently and a little abruptly. Perhaps it would make more sense if you were reading the print / ebook, but I kept getting confused and having to go back a bit. The narrator has a lovely soothing voice which is perfect for this sort of book and I enjoyed listening to her.

Madeline’s estranged mother shows up unexpectedly on her doorstep. Madeline is touched that her mom wants to mend their relationship, but there is a secret that she is keeping. Meanwhile, Frannie has inherited her grandmother’s home and discovers what plans her grandma had in store for her. Madeline gets a little putout in this tale when she finds out what secret her mom has been keeping from her. It’s a little out of character for her, considering she has also kept a secret from her own boyfriend in the not too distant past. But life goes on in Jubilee, and it’s always pleasant to read about these characters and their small town lives.

I listened to this while participating in our local NYD 5k. Cute enough. I especially loved that one of the two main characters is a 55-year-old single woman. It was pretty simple and there was a lot of telling rather than showing, but it was exactly what I expected.
Really my main problem was with the narrator. She did a good job but her sentences read like, "and Frannie hoped her dream would come true chapter 3". Surely she took a breath at the end of the sentence so it is possible it was an editing issue, but it was pretty terrible.

A saccharine sweet Christmas love story. It was like a Hallmark movie in book form. A very cozy read.

Personally I thought Madeline was a little hard on her mom. But this could be through my lens because I miss my mom so take that with a grain of salt. The mom was a little harsh at times (she was in her 70s so old school).

I listened to the audiobook version and appreciated the author used the characters names often bc it was hard to differentiate so many characters with one narrator.

This was a cute little Christmas read that starts out around Thanksgiving time. This is about a mother and daughter working on their relationship and another woman starting over. I like the Jubilee stories. I kind of wish they were a bit racier but I’ll still keep up with the series because living in a Hallmark Christmas story sounds perfect. And Brady is a dreamy guy.

I have a relationship with my mother similar to Madeline. I was shocked at how close it was to mine until they magically worked everything out. When her mother admitted to her behavior, it made me sad since my mother denies hers and calls me a liar.

Great read. Book three in this series following Madeline in her journey as an author. She is changing her writing style from big city romance to country slower pace living romances. Add in some personal romance as well as trials and good friendships, her estranged Mother and it makes for a good read. I was given an advanced reader copy by the author and I am freely leaving my review.
