When Mason Carter decided to seek justice for his sister, he had no idea what was in store for him. For as long as everyone could remember, Mason has been the most reckless sibling of the Carter family. But this time, his irresponsibility finally landed him at the point of no return. After a long, intoxicated night out, his little sister is left to escort him home--only both of them never made it. Weeks later when the charred body of a female is discovered, the Carter family is left to implode from guilt and tension. Faced with a fruitless police investigation, Mason decides to take matters into his own hands. He soon finds himself thrust waist-deep into long-kept secrets that alter his outlook on the world he thought he knew. With shady characters around every corner, Mason gambles his trust and his life in order to find answers to the ever-increasing questions surrounding his sister's case. When the truth finally begins unravelling, it coils around him like a snake and threatens everything he knows. Small-town thrillers take on a new form when the lines between right and wrong don't exist.
Mason's whole life changes in one quick moment and spirals him down into a hole he might never be able to get out of again. His little sister Violet is kidnapped on their way home from the bar and Mason is ridden with guilt because he couldn't do anything about it. Now he is trying to find out what happened that night but unleashes many more secrets he was not prepared for. This quick read was very intriguing and the characters are very realistic. This does end on a cliff hanger (it is only 66 pages) and I anxiously wait for the second story to be released. This is an actual 3 1/2 star rating....
I received an ARC of this tale and my review is being left voluntarily.
Unhinged: a nail biting thriller (The Silencer book 6), my twentieth read from author B.P Stevens. A 66-page thriller that I read in under an hour. “I received a free Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. I look forward to reading more from this author. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018). (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
A family Imploding. The story is full of twists and turns as Mason Carter and his little sister Violet begin walking home. Only one never makes it home. Finding her body a few days later sends the family into despair.
Mason faces the challenge of sobering up, trying to remember that night and figuring out what really happened to Violet.
I received this book as an ARC for an honest review.
Mason feels responsible for the abduction of his sister, Violet who was taken in front of him. Then a charred body is found. Mason gets notes from a mysterious source about his sister and discovers some dark secrets related to his family. Will he finally find out what happened to Violet? A gripping mystery with different points of view. Gut wrenching and haunting
This novella is the opening chapter of what should be a complex thriller. The writing style is abrupt, adding to the tension that builds quickly in this page turner. I did find the change of narrators confusing as the chapter titles do not warn of the shift. The storyline introduces many of the main characters and gives a lot of previous background that occurred before the story's present day. I prefer to not reiterate a storyline as I feel it steals from readers' enjoyment, however this story introduces a sister, brother, parents, police persons, and several antagonists/persons of interest, all of whom interconnect, plus a mystery man. I look forward to future books in this series. I received an ARC and this is my honest review of this novella.
Another great start to a new character. Grabs you on page one and doesn’t let go. It’s a quick but engrossing read. Can’t wait to read the next portion of the story.
I received an ARC and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
This is the start of a new series and begins with Mason and Violet Carter in a bar. Mason, as it normally happens, is drunk and Violet gets him to leave and they begin their walk home. As they get closer to home, Violet is abducted and days later is found dead. Mason eventually goes to rehab and becomes sober and decides that he was going to find his sister Violet's killer.
Mason begins his search and is not finding a lot. One day he receives a letter asking him to meet an unknown party where he will learn more about his sister's death. Mason arrives at the location where this stranger tells Mason that he would only give Mason the information if Mason provided the stranger with a specific item. Mason knew what the item was and when he got home he began looking for it. Once he found it he later provided it to the stranger. The stranger then began supplying Mason with information, but the fact that Mason took and gave this item to the stranger is causing problems with his parent.
To discover what item Mason took, what problems this caused for Mason's family and what sort of information Mason received from the stranger, then you need to read this book. The ending will leave you wondering what happens next.
This first book in the series is a fast read, edge of your seat thriller that grabs you from the beginning and never lets you go until the cliff-hanging ending. Mason Carter drinks too much. He is so drunk, his little sister has to walk him home. He was so drunk, he couldn't do anything to help his sister while a van stopped and kidnapped her. Telling the police didn't do anything. So, loaded with guilt, Mason gets himself sober and decides to find out what happened to his sister. His investigation questions everything he thought he knew about things as he finds reveals some long-held secrets. He is willing to put his life on the line as he goes after the truth. People aren't exactly who they thought they were and even his parents could be suspect. This is a real page turner that you read in one sitting until the end. And then you want more! I can't wait to see what will happen next! I received and ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
When Violet is snatched whilst escorting her drunk brother home their family falls apart. Mason does not believe to burn remains found are his sister and his investigation opens secrets best left hidden. This is an excellent mystery that tells the story from various viewpoints and constantly twists and turns with new revelations almost every page. A short read that ends with a cliff-hanger that makes you want to keep reading and I look forward to doing so. I received a complimentary copy from the Author and am leaving a honest voluntary review and then bought the book anyway.
Point of No Return by B.P. Stevens is the first in a six book series. In his gripping tale, alcoholic Mason and his younger sister are walking home from a bar one night when Violet is kidnapped and drunken Mason is left unconscious. Weeks pass and police identify a badly charred corpse as Violet. Mason and his parents disagree. Now sober, Mason begins the search for his sister. The action starts right away in this story and continues on every page. The characters are well developed and the book well plotted. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. I voluntarily received an advanced reader copy of this book, in return for my honest review of the book.
This is the first book in The Violet Carter Series. Mason was out drinking and was totally drunk. Violet his little sister was helping him walk home, but she was kidnapped and thrown into the back of a van; Mason was in no condition to help save her. He is so riddled with guilt, because he couldn't do anything about it. Now he is trying to find out what happened, but he is unprepared for what he finds. Could his family be involved? Love the plot, great setting, and strong intense interesting characters. What could possibly happen in the next book of the series???
This first book was a great start to the series. It starts out right away with Mason’s sister, Violet, being taken while they were walking home late one night. Unfortunately, he was too drunk to realize and stop it from happening. He holds onto this guilt. He decides to shape up and try to find out what happened and this lands his entire family in trouble. It turns out that his father has been hiding something. I am looking forward to the next book. I received an ARC copy from the author and this is my honest review.
A drunk brother, Mason and his sister, Violet are walking home from a bar. She gets kidnapped and a body is found with her information on it. Mason said it is not his sister, but the police close the case. Mason is intent on finding answers to what happened to his sister. Family secrets his father wants to keep hidden. A cliff hanger that will be continued.
The writing was great. The characters believable. I was fully engrossed. AND THEN: to be continued! What a disappointment. There should have been a warning that it was only half a story. I feel like I've been tricked! I would rather have not read it at all than to be left with no ending. Bah Humbug! Jean, ARC Team
I really enjoyed this book. Its story is intriguing, its characters charming, secretive and determined! I love slowly learning some of the family’s secrets. I love Mason’s determination to find the truth no matter the cost! I look forward to reading the next book in the series! I highly recommended this quick read!
A quick read but lots of action and intrigue and a plot that will keep you reading. A deep family mystery and a family falling apart. I like the way it is written and the characters are easily identifiable. A good story that’s going to get even better as the series goes on. Roll on book 2. I received this arc for free and I wanted to leave an honest review.
This is an amazing start to a new series I'm loving it, I received this as an ARC and voluntarily choose to reveiw however I must of missed emails I have been dealing with a lot so my apologies to this amazing author as I really love and appreciate the books I get to reveiw, this was awesome I'm going try to catch up by reading the next books that are already out.
A good start to a serial, though I did find the first person a bit confusing at first when the character changed. I’m certainly keen to see where this one is heading as everything appears to be semi or totally hidden. Who is the unknown informant? What do they want? So many questions need answers.
This is the first book that I have read from this author and I really enjoyed it. It's a mystery that is thought provoking and very interesting. The storyline is addictive and it's just all around a good book.
Mason’s sister is kidnapped and when her burnt body is discovered family secrets may be behind the mystery of the crime. Mason is out to discover the family secrets and the reason his sister was targeted. A quick read with plenty of turmoil and mystery.
I just got finished reading the ARC copy. I really liked this book. Can Mason find out who killed Violet without getting himself killed? Well he find the secrets his parents are keeping.
It's my pleasure to review this ARC; it was a quick but nightmare producing start to an unknown outcome, which starts by the main character remembering walking home half cut from the local bar the night before. It felt like déjà vu, as it is so common and realistic, given the times we're living in. Great Canuck author! I'm dying to gobble up everything this newly discovered author has put out there. This is a pleasant distraction from my own equally bizarre story here at the remote West Coast. The story is over in under an hour. I hope I remember this one long enough to carry on reading the upcoming sequel. This series of short stories is the current trend, and it suits me fine!!
This is the beginning of a new series. As with so many others by this author, it is a very short read with a cliffhanger ending. The biggest thing I dislike about novels this short is getting interested in the story only to have the book end. Then you have to wait until the next book in the series is released and hope you remember what you read previously. I'd rather all this mini books get put into one book. This story had some editing errors like Violet's name was Violent in one area. The overall story is interesting and it makes me want to find out more about what the parents did and what actually happened to Violet. I definitely wouldn't recommend reading any of the books in the writers series as a stand alone book. They just won't make much sense.
I received an ARC copy of this book and this is my honest review.
