My villain. My monster. My Ruthless Knight…Knight Grayson isn't just one of New York's elite billionaires. He's the embodiment of Hades in a tailored suit and a beautiful devil waiting to destroy. He always gets what he wants, no matter the cost. Including me.
One harmless, sexy encounter places him in my path and before I know it, I'm caught in his strategic trap. Although he insists I’m not his Persephone, he steals me away from my almost-fiancé́. And my life.
This isn’t like the mythical tale of old driven by love. To him, I’m a pawn in a game of power because I have something he wants. In order to build his empire and get his legacy, he needs my inheritance. Since the only way to get that is to marry me, he forces my hand by using my father.
Six months of marriage, along with the ownership of my inheritance, and my father’s extortionate debts will go away.
To save my father, I signed Knight's contract, binding myself to every term and condition. But then, the boundaries between us begin to blur.
Each public kiss, intended for show, feels dangerously genuine and pulses with undeniable attraction. As his hunger for power evolves into a craving for me, we start to forget that our marriage is a contract. Yearning for his touch was never part of the plan. Neither was becoming his new obsession.
But when the veil lifts, revealing his dark secrets and twisted lies, we both realize we have more to lose than just ourselves.
Ruthless Knight is a billionaire, forced proximity, fake relationship, and arranged marriage novel inspired by the Hades and Persephone myth. It is a complete standalone with mature language, themes, and content intended for mature readers only.
- Dead girlfriend trope that he never got over even after 20 years - OWD, his assistant used to be his fuck buddy, FMC knew about it and still have to see this assistant. Don't know about other readers but I don't want to read an MMC who still works with his former fb. 🤮 Also, based on one review this assistant is catty and witchy towards the FMC, probably gloating that she and the MMC had history. Ewww yuck! - Weak FMC and body betraying syndrome, she always caves in even when he treats her like sh*t.
This author is 50-50 when it comes to safety, and most of her MMCs are manhoes. But she do have books where the constant reminders are slim to none and without OWD. Unfortunately, this one isn't safe so I'm gonna skip it.
I was so hesitant to start this book, I had read two others by this author which I hadn’t enjoyed.
The romance had some dark aspects. Aurora and Knight had an explosive chemistry and their journey was filled with secrets, betrayal, deceit, manipulation, drama, twists and turns. There were parts that I liked and others I didn’t.
I would have preferred the heroine to be stronger and had some self respect. The drama with Knight’s ex girlfriend was drawn out and tbh frustrated me.
Only two for the ending at least it’s happy lol. OW drama
Spoiler- OW drama and self death
TWO OW drama. Sighhhh it wasn’t enough that she had to deal a lot of the book with the husband’s worst cattiest jealous personal assistant that had a history of sleeping with her husband… oh no she also had to deal with the perfect teenage 1st love dead girlfriend.
Ughhhh I truly truly truly hate when OW drama involves a dead prior love especially if it is emphasized so heavily in plot how much the mmc loved the prior woman, and this was double whammy of “perfect in memory teenage love”. the author doesn’t even give an out by saying something like “in hindsight it wasn’t true mature love or this love with his wife was so far above the puppy love he had experienced…. “ And let’s be honest, it was written in a foundation of puppy love and dependent love centered around a terminal illness where the teenage mmc had a savior complex. The author making it seem like these teens were soulmates, nope! and the dude gave his kidney to extend her life two years? After which she decided to off herself when it stopped working and didn’t want to fight anymore? And he sculpts an entire flipping gallery of this 1st love in a plethora of statues and these statues haunt the new wife because of the mystery of who was Giselle??? Cause ya know he can’t talk to his wife about Giselle. Dramatic much author?????🙄🙄🙄
Ohhhh but in the end he reads a letter from the dead girlfriend that took her life rather than continue to fight her disease ( supposedly could have had 20 years possibly) and that letter gives mmc permission to live and love again……be free my love fight for the the new love you’ll find …. Blech…….
So much time and emotional involvement in dear ole dead Giselle and so much doubling down about their love 🙄🙄🙄 so it just didn’t really feel genuine an definitely not as strong when the mmc and fmc love was expressed. And of course he sculpted a statue of the fmc in the end and that is supposed to make it seem like hey I love you tooooooo. Ummm that’s like giving the same gift to two girlfriends. I’d be taking a sledgehammer to some statues lol. Probably won’t read this author again if I recognize or remember the name. The book just wasn’t that interesting either. Ask the drama and conflict even outside the OW blah blah was honestly just boring and the fmc seemed so weak.
DNF. The premise has some of my favorite tropes so I was primed to enjoy. But I really really really hate the trope of “woman is so turned on she tolerates being abused”. I get that people are into kinky stuff that isn’t my jam, but I have never stayed attracted to someone who made me feel like crap. Humiliation cures a crush reeeeally quickly for me. I would rather see her assert herself in some way he can’t touch, like not responding to him when he’s turned on. Or maybe she could have some internal life that he can’t just have sleuthed out. He knows everything about her, has all the money, all the power and she has the ability to feebly think “I really shouldn’t….” Before abandoning that thought and jumping in to whatever he demands. He is clearly possessive and wants to own her. I want some part of her to be beyond his reach, and that drives him crazy so he has to change so she freely shares herself. But no. His magic penis means she has no brain, no principles or values, no spine. He’s an a-hole and she really doesn’t care how badly she is treated.
What does it say about the female mc that losing the company or losing property means losing everything? FMC and her father would rather sell her to a monster. I get the loan shark is a problem. But “losing everything you worked for” should be relationships, not money and power. I would not lay down my freedom and happiness so the people I love could keep more stuff. I would die for my children. I wouldn’t marry an abusive a-hole to make sure they got to mingle in the top echelons of the super rich. Dad and FMC had ample assets to live a more modest lifestyle in comfort. I certainly can’t imagine a scenario where I’d feel justified in selling one of my kids so I could maintain a lavish lifestyle. I can’t even imagine asking that.
I just find the hero to be more an a-hole than an anti-hero, or dark hero, or beast or similar trope. The heroine was blonde, curvy, and wrote derivative erotica I mostly skimmed. She had no real personality, spine, interests, hobbies, or community. She was just a convenient doll who was sometimes a shrew but never defied him with any meaningful outcome.
It also annoyed me that he kept calling her mon chérie. It’s ma chérie. The possessive adjective matches the noun, not the subject of the sentence. If the beloved was male he’d say “mon chéri”. The author has it wrong either way and it happens over and over and over. This is a Google search away. One could also take a listen to the classic Stevie Wonder song “Ma chérie amour” which repeats the correct phrasing many times. It drove me nuts. Sure it’s petty but I’d be more inclined to ignore it if I otherwise loved the book. I didn’t.

Knight and Aurora l fell together after Knights grandfather sniffed his plans to retire, but he has 3 grandkids who must compete for the positions. Aurora gained a property from her late mother that grandfather wanted to acquire. Knight has to go thru Aurora to get it, but first, he has to break up her current engagement and blackmail her dad. But what happens when he falls in love and hides the truth?
I was about to give this 2 stars and then remembered how absolutely cringeworthy the spicy scenes are in this, so 1 star it is.
And aside from the cringe, it's boring. The MMC and FMC have no personality. They are married but very concerned about a 1940s hotel. The FMCs mom owned it and it's very special to her, the MMC wants the hotel because it allows him to be the CEO of his family's company in a weird deal he has with his grandpa (hence the marriage... for a hotel...). Yeah, it's strange. Then they kinda sorta start falling in love, but there's exactly 0 chemistry between the two. And again, there's no personality to be seen. The MMC has an ex that died - and he's seemingly still obsessed with her - but I'm almost to the end and nothing has been revealed about it. Which is strange and I could care less about that plot line.
The MMC isn't even that much of a "monster" or "villain" as the description says. He's pretty nice and a bit of a mama's boy. Also, the comparison to Hades and Persephone makes no sense - it's simply not a thing.
Incredibly disappointed with the FMC. She never once in the entire book stood up for herself. The MMC humiliated her many times and her response was to sleep with him. She needs a backbone.
I really liked this book, but if I could change one thing, it would be the way the dead girlfriend thing was handled. I wish Knight did more to prove Aurora was really the one he wanted to be with, even if Giselle (dead girlfriend) had still been alive. I feel like Aurora felt like she was the backup plan, and the way Knight handled it was not super satisfying.

“Beautiful things are always wrapped in pretty packages. Sometimes, that’s done by design to hide the ugliness of what’s inside.”
Look I’m glad that the H pulled his head out of his arse and went for his HEA. I guess it’s called ruthless Knight for a reason but there isn’t really much to like about him.
“If you play with fire, you will get burned. Everyone knows that. Even the moth who was drawn to the open flame. So, why do we play with fire, knowing it could potentially destroy us? I think it’s the call of adventure, and the thirst to taste the thing you should resist. You crave it even when you know good and well you’ll never be the same again once you touch it.”
And our h was a bit pathetic. Have some self respect girl.
“The truth is, I’m little more than a house plant here. As long as I’m watered and fed, I can still carry out my function to marry him.“
I struggled to finish this one and I’m not keen to go onto the second book.
Not for me. DNF’d at 50% and skimmed the end…luckily I did too because exactly what I thought would play out did and just the small bits I got were just as annoying as the beginning of the book.
-No chemistry or personality with the FMC or MMC.
-Super weak FMC: the MMC continuously humiliates and treats the FMC like shit and she never stood up for herself or had a backbone. She just rolled over every time. Humiliation is something that is hard to come back from for me. It’s an immediate turn off.
-Body Betrayal…no matter how badly the FMC was treated by the MMC, her body “betrays” her and wants him anyway because he’s so hot and she can’t help but sleep with him. Gag.
-FMC is also just kind of stupid and keeps falling for obvious traps but then acts surprised when she realizes it. Like the MMC told her he renovates businesses for a living and he just got 90% ownership of her resort and she didn’t realize he was gonna renovate it or do what he wanted with it without her input? Or when he said he’d consider her renovation plans if she wins at chess, and even though she didn’t know the game well, she was still surprised he won with her whole “you knew I’d lose. You tricked me” shock after it happened…did she think she’d win?? Did she think he’d offer her a game to get what she wants if he was bad at the game??
-He uses some clause in their contract as a way to insinuate she has to sleep with him if he wants her to …as if that’s even slightly legal to do
-I don’t care that true feelings hadn’t developed yet or whatever…taking the last thing my dead mother left me and stomping on my ability to make her renovation dreams come true would be hard to come back from. It was too much especially with the body betrayal on her end despite his actions. Over my dead body could you disrespect my dead mother’s wishes and my love for her and still touch me.
-The bitter assistant that was also his former bed buddy was too much.
-There were some weird inconsistencies and unrealistic timelines…Nothing super big but some examples: 1. The half-brother’s height being 5’9” at the beginning but then he was of a similar height to the MMC 6’4” later in the book 2. Knight and Jericho have a private tattoo studio before their 20s when they joined the family business…ignoring the fact that licenses and training and skill takes years and years especially if the tattoos Jericho had of Knights’ own work was as quality as it was hinted at being.
-This one is petty of me but the FMC’s career goal was to be a serious writer and her ultimate dream was to write for People magazine…seriously?? Not Time or National Geographic or hell even Vanity Fair?? Since when is People magazine serious writing…or an aspirational goal for anyone of good character? People magazine is an exploitative tabloid filled with cheap and repetitive gossip that feeds into the existence of paparazzi. Serious writing = People magazine? I’m sorry but how dumb.
This is the second book I read by this author and I enjoyed it. It’s about Knight and Aurora. To take over as CEO Knight has to fulfil the requirements of his grandfather. As a step to accomplish that he blackmails Aurora’s father to arranges a marriage between them.
The characters and their relationship are a rollercoaster and I enjoyed that a lot. They are not perfect, they both have their own flaws. I loved Aurora’s character but sometimes I wish she would have been a bit stronger and didn’t give up so fast.
I’m excited to read Jericho’s (Knight’s brother) story soonish as well. I know it’s already out and I want to know more about what he hinted at in this book. I love seeing the relationship between both brothers.
Knight took me a bit longer to love than Aurora since he’s all the dark billionaire you expect him to be in the book which was awesome to read. To quote Aurora “A beautiful devil with a twisted heart. People say monsters aren’t born. They’re made. I wonder…what made him.” I love how he’s fighting for her and seeing his own flaws in the end. Another highly enjoyable read by Faith.
Thank you Give Me Books (especially Alicia) and Faith for the arc❤️
The blurb sounds right up my alley but I should’ve known I wouldn’t like this when the first chapter starts out from the male MC’s POV. Compared to other mafia and billionaire dark romance books, the writing here is like watching paint dry.
Part of the Ruthless Billionaires series so hang on once you start you won’t stop until the last page has been turned get comfortable because you are going to get betrayal, lies, and secrets. Knight sexy as all get out billionaire working for his grandfather’s company Grayson Inc. when the old man decides to retire and pits the three grandson’s against one another creates a situation where they have to impress him in order to have a part in the company giving him hint as to how to impress him. Aurora is the owner of Sunset Cove in the Hamptons dreams of being a writer in college she was in a relationship with her professor unknowing she didn’t realize he was married with a family until he died so every time she applies for a job at his wife’s company she is rejected also she is trapped in an arrangement to marry one Nathan Gilmar she doesn’t want to go through with it but in walks Knight but is he really her Knight and shining armor, will they find something real considering it all started out as fake, will she become the writer she has always wanted to become, will he get the position his grandfather promised him, and where are they headed happiness maybe?
I had to force myself to finish this one. I didn't love either of the MMCs. The steamy scenes were boring. The story was also boring.
In the beginning, we're made to feel bad for Knight and his brother, Jericho. Their father chose their half brother over them. And their grandfather had their backs. We're made to think the father and half brother are slimy, but Knight is pretty bad.
Knight treats Aurora horribly. And she falls for him before that changes. The only thing that changes before she falls is they have frequent sex.
Aurora wants both to be a full time author and to run the resort her mom left her. She clearly can't do both. That is brought up but then ignored.
This needs a good edit from a different editor than the one she uses. She tries to describe someone as bring good at their job but then calls them "inept." Obviously wrong word choice. Knight calls Aurora "mon cherie" several times. That is the masculine version. He would call his wife (or any female) "ma cherie."
I was amused a 5 inch penis was described as huge. That's actually below average. But that gives you an idea of how thrilling the steamy scenes were. (The penis in question wasn't Knight's.)
There really wasn't a good progression in the characters or their relationship. Or perhaps the progression was clunky instead of smooth.
I may try another book by this author, but if it is like this one, I will stay away in the future.
DNFed it because I have beef with all the characters. The MMC is just a straight up A-hole The FMC is a horny, no backbone, not smart writer The best friend wasn't bestfriending at all The dad was an A-hole And the author because why would she use "mon cherie" instead of "ma cherie" The plot really sums up as Fmc monologue ending with "He is a devil", the mmc talks to her for 5 minutes just for her to fuck. CAN WE BRING BACK SELF RESPECT !?!?! I think all of this could have been avoided if they just sold Sunset Cove. The end.

A great, arranged marriage romance loosely based on the story of Hades and Persephone as, in order to lay claim to his family business and get one up his estranged father and half-brother, billionaire Knight Grayson blackmails Aurora Wright into a six-month marriage so that he can lay claim to her inheritance. This book was a bit so so for me. Even though it wasn’t as dark as I had expected it to be I enjoyed the overall storyline in Ruthless Knight and the character of Knight, I mean who doesn’t love a bad boy and when you throw in a French accent, well what’s not to like! Where it lost points for me was with the character of Aurora. She was just such a doormat right from the start and let everyone walk all over her. I would’ve loved more verbal conflict between her and Knight to hype up the chemistry, but she accepted everything he did even putting up with his personal PA Chelle (and emphasis on personal) when she started playing her games. I just wanted her to snap and finally stand up for herself. With some strong secondary characters, I’m looking forward to reading more from this series but please give Jericho a heroine with a backbone!
I just couldn't keep going and reading about how weak her body was whenever he looked/glanced/whatevered at her. The man was destroying your mother's legacy, avoiding you for weeks, lying to you, and humiliating you and he so much as talks in your direction and your first reaction is to sleep with him?! Geez, have some pride or something or at least make him work for it. As awful as he was she just gave in right away and that is one of my biggest pet peeves. I really wanted to like this book, the blurb sounded great but when the FMC can't "control her body" and doesn't put up a fight when she's treated like crap it's really annoying.
So I fast forwarded towards the end of the book and of course she found out what was happening and his lies and he grovelled a bit and they lived hea.
DNF at 68%. While I do understand that Knight being an ass to her is deeply rooted to his grief and loss, I can't get by the fact that at 68% he has not apologized once or shown a single action of remorse to the ways he has treated and humiliated Aurora. Not to mention Aurora being a spineless doormat, having 0 dignity to stand up for herself because "her body betrays her."
DNF at 10%. IT’S CALLED MA CHÉRIE. How do you get this wrong. He’s NOT talking to a man. AGAIN HOW DO YOU GET THIS WRONG. Anyway she has no backbone so this isn’t worth the read.
