A search for a suitor. An inescapable curse. A love that overcomes even magic.
Everyone in the kingdom knows the tale of their cursed princess, doomed to fall into an eternal slumber when she turns nineteen. As Princess Alyona’s birthday approaches, her parents are determined to find her a suitable match. After all, only a kiss will break the inevitable curse, and no one kisses the princess but her prince.
Unfortunately for all concerned, the competition to win the princess’s heart has done nothing but discourage Alyona on the notions of romance. With only her bodyguard for company, she finds comfort in the one thing she does love—dance.
Nikolai, the son of the palace cook, is the last person Alyona expected to find guarding her. Her childhood best friend is different now that he’s back from the military. All grown up and more gorgeous—and frustrating—than anyone she’s ever met.
Their connection is undeniable, but so is the law. He can’t be in the running to be her suitor, to break her curse. Princess Alyona must marry someone of noble blood, even if she’s never met a prince who can dance like Nikolai.
With the parade of nobles going through the palace, and her parents in a panic over her fateful, upcoming birthday, Princess Alyona knows she’s running out of time.
But how can she choose between the kingdom she loves, and her own heart? Can true love’s kiss really conquer all?
The Cursed Beauty is a standalone retelling of the traditional Russian story of Sleeping Beauty. Set in the fairy tale world of Skazka, this full length novel is for fans of bachelorette competitions, forbidden bodyguard/princess romance, forced proximity, and all the cozy fantasy feels.

This is such a beautiful romance and fairy retelling.
Wonderfully written, this book had me in its grasp since the beginning, but it got even more interesting when Nikolai entered the picture.
The characters are great, their chemistry is evident and I was rooting for them from the beginning.
The only thing I wanted more was magic, and I felt that the curse was broken too easily and too soon. I would have loved if the characters had more time to explore their feelings when she was asleep and would have been ok if the chapters afterwards were shorter.
I am definitely going to read other books set in the world.
I received an advance copy of the book and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
The Cursed Beauty is The Skazka Fairy Tale of Sleeping Beauty by Valia Lind. I found this retelling excellent. The author is Russian and I enjoyed the Russian words and phrases, there is a glossary of words and phrases in the book. There are interesting differences as well as similarities. If you enjoy fairytales, you do not want to miss this story. I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.
This was a unique take on sleeping beauty! I really enjoyed alyona as a main character and nikolai is the sweetest. Can’t wait to read the next skazka tale!

My Initial Thoughts
The cover drew me in instantly, it's absolutely stunning and the second I known it was a retelling I'm swept right in. As I have already read The Poisoned Princess, I know how amazing Valia writes her retellings and the special aspect of how they are retellings from the Russian fairytales, although please don't ask me how to pronounce certain words properly! This is the fourth book in the Shazka Fairytales series and the fact the characters are interconnected is one of my favourite things. I loved the way you can feel all the characters connections very quickly and the situation they all find them self caught up in. Also side note, Chudo!!!!! The most adorable creature if ever there is one!
Plot
As this is a retelling, you know the basic plot but you don't know the uniqueness of the plot until you dive right in. Retelling's are probably one of my most favourite genres and I adored this version so much. I was shedding tears while i read and chuckled at the banter between Nikolai and Timofey! The epilogue was just so adorable and the most perfect finish to an amazing read.
Characters
Where to start on the amazing characters within this book! So hands down Chudo is my favourite little pouty ball of fluffiness, and his cheeky personality just radiates from him. I love his nickname for Nikolai to, which you have to read to find out! No spoilers here. I was able to picture such vivid images while I was reading. Alyonka is the most beautiful soul who would just give her all for everyone else's happiness, despite her own. Nikolai is also so amazing as he sees things below the surface, the things that truly matter. Tetia Tetaina your not a friend here, be gone with you! Also Ivanna is here interconnected and you will not believe how incredibly happy that made me, as I absolutely adored her story. Recommend
i recommend this to everyone that enjoys retellings that are unique to their own.

A beautifully written retelling, full to the brim with love and magic.
Overall Wrap up
This was honestly the most beautifully, magical story. This is also the most amazing read for the winter season, seems it is set in the Cold Kingdom. I really enjoyed how previous characters come into the storyline so effortlessly, and it makes you want to read the other books to learn more about all the other characters, and was there a hint I saw in there about the fifth book in the series?! Although I have now read book 3 and 4, I need to go back and read book 1 and 2, because if they are anything like these two, they are amazing. Planning to read one and two before I start 5, and have read them all before the sixth is released next year!
I recently had the exciting opportunity to review an ARC of The Cursed Beauty, the newest fairy tale adaptation by Valia Lind. This book is part of her Skazka Fairy Tales series, which is about a Russian-inspired fantasy world with a heavy focus on romance. As the first full-length novel I've read that takes place in this world, I found it refreshingly sweet. The Cursed Beauty is a retelling of "Sleeping Beauty" that places more focus on the love story than the magical elements of the fairy tale. It's a straightforward romance about a princess and her bodyguard and the class differences that stand in their way. I liked that the book didn't use unrealistic feminist standards and gave an accurate representation of how this type of relationship could have played out.
The Cursed Beauty starts out exactly like "Sleeping Beauty." Princess Alyona was cursed by an evil fairy at her birthing ceremony to fall into a death-like sleep that would affect the whole kingdom by her 19th birthday. Just as the fairy tale goes, one of the fairies who came to grant her a blessing revised the curse so she could be awakened by true love's kiss whenever it took place. In preparation for what was to come, Alyonka's family locked her away from the world and gave her a group of capable soldiers to protect her. When she came of age, they held a competition to find the right prince to form a strong bond between their two kingdoms and eventually break the curse. However, Alyonka has little interest in any of the competitors. Her heart was captured long before by her bodyguard, Nikolai, whom she had known for many years. Although Nikolai shares her feelings, he must do his best to keep them hidden so that he can properly perform his duty.
While it works well as an adaptation of "Sleeping Beauty," The Cursed Beauty excels the most when it focuses on romance. Every chapter is told from both Alyonka and Nikolai's perspectives giving us a clear picture of their feelings toward each other. I've read many other books that alternate between the perspectives of two love interests in the past. Although I can understand why it was done, there were times that it would switch perspectives while narrating a scene from the same place at the same time, which occasionally made me forget whose point of view I was reading from. Regardless of this minor confusion, Alyonka and Nikolai have wonderful chemistry. I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the excitement and awkwardness they shared when they were alone together and wanted to confess their feelings but had to hold back for the sake of the kingdom and breaking the curse. All of this builds up to a predictable yet satisfying ending.
The author of this series put a great deal of effort into her world-building. Skazka is heavily influenced by medieval Russia, complete with Russian-inspired language, culture, and fashion. The fantasy elements are equally well-written. A stand-out supporting character from the book is Alyonka's secret dragon friend, Chudo, who can communicate with her telepathically and has mysterious powers that help her. The fairies are similar to the ones from the original fairy tale but fit well into the fantasy world that Valia Lind has created as well. Although I was able to figure out the identity of the villain early on, she was a powerful foe who posed a suitable match for the heroes of this story. Since Alyonka was facing a curse as opposed to a physical threat, she did not need to be physically strong in the same way as other modern princesses and was able to focus on more feminine personality traits.
The Cursed Beauty by Valia Lind is an enthralling fairy tale adaptation that shines in its romantic portrayal of "Sleeping Beauty." With its dual perspectives, the novel masterfully captures the sweet and tender moments between Alyonka and Nikolai, making their love story the true highlight of the book. The author's world-building skills are equally impressive, transporting readers to a richly detailed Russian-inspired fantasy world. While some minor quirks in the narrative perspective may cause brief confusion, the story's predictable yet satisfying ending and memorable supporting characters make up for it. Overall, The Cursed Beauty is a charming addition to the Skazka Fairy Tales series, perfect for those seeking a romantic and dreamy fairy tale adaptation.
I loved getting the chance to return to Skazka, although this one really made it clear that there was so much of this world that I was missing by not reading the first books. While it is fulfilling as a stand-alone, there are so many mentions and more magic that we miss out on by reading it as such.
A retelling of Sleeping Beauty, Alyona was blessed at birth by the 6 fairies. The jealous dark fairy broke up the party, coming to lay a curse on Alyona before the 6th had finished her blessing. This leaves the last fairy a chance to leave a way to break the curse, but the kingdom lives in fear of the princess's 19th birthday.
In response to the curse, the Tsar and Tsarina ignore Alyona, trying to keep her safe at home as their duties call them away. Thinking if their daughter is married, that will create the bond needed to break the curse, they open a competition for suitors to try to win Alyona's hand.
Three years in, Alyona is less than impressed with the suitors they've found. When her longtime bodyguard - and the truest father figure Alyona has ever had - is forced to retire, he was able to pick his replacement. Alyona is shocked to find that Nikolai, a cook's son and a boy who was once her friend, before he was sent away, will be her new bodyguard.
Despite his distance, Alyona continues to look for her old friend in Nikolai. One of the few connections she's been able to form, and a person she used to care for dearly. The suitors continue at their tasks to try to present their best selves before the princess, and everyone knows only a prince can marry a princess. So why does Alyona only seem to notice Nikolai?
Told from dual POV with Alyona and Nikolai, their efforts to keep their distance don't last for too long. Nikolai realizes how alone Alyona is, and can't help but trying to be a comfort to her. And watching the parade of suitors isn't easy. Especially when they seem to forget that marrying her would be an honor, while they treat her like a prize to be won.
A clean, sweet fairytale retelling. With a dragon sidekick, and a winter wonderland for a kingdom.
I received an ARC through BookSirens, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This is the perfect cozy fantasy for the winter time!! The snowy vibes of this book reminded me so much those cold snow stormy days. This was a really cute read filled with russian folklore and culture that is so interesting to read about. I love how there's a dictionary at the back so you can learn a few words while you're reading!
Alyonka is very determined and strong willed- especially after everything she went through as a baby and the circumstances she's given. I really loved how she didn't let anyone ( cough tetia tatiana) push her around. She stood her ground and handled everything so gracefully. Also… she has a dragon!! Chudo is easily my favorite character from this book. He's so cute and his little scarf also had me cracking up.
Nikolai is so sweet & kind, he really has such a soft spot for Alyonka. Seeing them grow closer together and their relationship strengthen throughout the book was really cute to see. He's the one person who always saw who she was and encouraged that side of her to shine. My favorite part was probably him learning how to braid so that he can braid her hair in case he ever finds her again.
The only thing I feel like there could've been a little more of is with the competition, maybe more updates on the guys. The twist was a little predictable but it was still done really well, and the rest of the plot was seamless and enjoyable!
The cameos from the other characters was so fun to see, I loved seeing Alyonka meet the other girlies from previous books in this series and become friends with them! It was especially fun to see Ivanka and Dimitri again!
Overall, this was such a fun and cozy read. I will definitely be rereading it in the future and I can't wait to add the physical copy my shelves! I'm so curious to see what the next book is, I have a few guesses but I'm excited for that 🥰
Thank you so much to the author for the arc! 💖
I would definitely recommend this if you like: -fairytale retellings -childhood friends to lovers -princess x bodyguard -secret ballrooms & cute dragons
I have been waiting for this book to come out since it was announced, that’s a lie since I read the first book in 2022. It was my most anticipated read this year. I have quite literally been counting down the days for it to come out and took a half day off work to read it.
Sleeping beauty has always been my favourite princess that I legally changed my name to hers when I was old enough. This book should have been the best thing ever, especially after loving the last book so much that I brought it in paperback and waited 4 months for it to arrive due to not shipping to my country so I could have it forever.
Sadly this missed the mark for me. When I read the first couple of chapters and the sneak peaks sent across in the newsletter I was so excited but sadly this just fell flat for me. I still consumed it in 5 hours but it just didn’t feel as magically and as timeless as the last one. The concept was brilliant and some passages of writing stood out to me and you could tell how much Nikolai loved her but it just felt predicable. I could see where the story was going, there was no element of surprise and it felt like a bit of a slog to get through this one. I kept having to push myself to finish it whereas with the last one I was so sad to have finished it and wished there was more. This book felt a bit rushed, I didn’t feel the romance as much in this one, it felt as if it had to be spelt out more. The dragon was a nice touch but felt a bit random at times (maybe because there is so many dragon related stories out there at the moment).
I will still read the next book which I have seen is a little mermaid retelling. Looking forward to that. Disappointed that this one was not favourite of the series but will not stop me from picking up Valia’s books just yet.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This is a sweet retelling of Sleeping Beauty. I loved the characters but mainly Alyonka and Nikolai. I like how their relationship started out as friends at a young age and how it has grown little by little throughout the book.
Alyonka is a strong FMC that was cursed as a baby and has been held at the castle as a sort of prisoner by her parents. They want her to be safe but they also keep their emotions at an arms length to protect her and themselves. Alyonka wants to do things in her own like travel outside the castle and dance. She does the dancing in secret and also has secret meetings with her friend Chudo. When Nikolai enters her life again, she realizes how much she missed him and wants to reconnect with him again
Nikolai is the cook's son and has been friends with Alyonka since they were kids. They would go on adventures together within the castle and castle grounds. When he returns 10 years later, he sees Alyonka is grown into a beautiful woman and his feelings for her grow. He wants her safe but also wants that adventurous girl he has known back. But she must choose a suitor, per her parents, that is noble. With many men under the same roof competing for her hand, Nikolai has no choice but to watch as Alyonka meets with each one, while his heart is wanting her all to himself.
Will the curse be broken if she chooses someone her parents approve of? Or will it be in vain? Will Alyonka and Nikolai tell each other their true feelings or will they break each other's hearts?
Must read the book to find out.

The Cursed Beauty is an excellent retelling of Sleeping Beauty! I don't really know the Russian version of it, but it seems a lot like the English version and I loved all the elements from the story incorporated into this retelling. Alyona / Alyonka / Alyonushka (I honestly have no idea what I should be calling her) was such a great character! Her emotions were so real and the writing was so well done that you really felt for her. Her emotions were completely realistic to the situation and I love how Valia Lind adds the emotions to the story to make us better able to understand the setting. Nikolai is absolutely my favourite character! He's the "expressionless, stoic bodyguard" who harbors romantic feelings towards Alyona but can't show it as it is inappropriate for his position. I love how much he understands her and how much he cares about her, anticipating her every need and understanding her emotions. I do wish that the end battle with the dark fairy had been a little more exciting and climatic, but I do love how the story wraps up really nicely. I can't wait for the another book in the Skazka Fairy Tales!
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. This book is part of The Skazka Fairy Tales Series and can be read as a standalone. This is the first book of the author's that I've read and I didn't feel lost because I hadn't read the previous books in the series. The Cursed Beauty is told through Alyona and Nikolai's pov and is a sweet and clean cozy Sleeping Beauty retelling.
From the start, it was easy to be invested in Alyona's journey to break her curse. The author did a good job in making you feel for Alyona as she struggled with the responsibility she felt to her kingdom while wanting someone to truly care about her. Nikolai proved to be that person. They were childhood friends who had to work through some hurt and I liked seeing them adjust to their relationship of princess and bodyguard. Of course Nikolai was protective because of his job but he genuinely wanted Alyona to be happy and encouraged her to be herself. I loved when we got to see her spark and she took charge. Their romance was a slow burn with a dash of angst but every second was good. While this is a kisses only romance, with the kisses not getting too heated, there's plenty of tension and chemistry between them. Aside from the romance, I enjoyed the friendships they each had and would love to read books about Alyona's maid and Nikolai's fellow soldier. I also loved Chudo, the Russian culture, and the world building. Overall, this book was a delight to read and I want to read more from this author and series.
❄️ Valia Lind's newest addition to her Skaza Fairytales was such a fun wintry read! In this book we return to the enchanting Russian Fairytale world of Skaza, and even get to catch up with some of Valia's previous Princesses! But this book can be read as a Stand Alone, so you don't need to have read the others to understand this story. Alyonka's Kingdom is a cozy, whimsical place of perpetual winter, where she's not only cursed to fall into slumber, but all of her people are as well.
💕 I loved that this book was very focused on the romance aspect of the plot and had less on-page conflict..This made the book feel very cozy, more so than Valia's other fairytale retellings which are all ✨Amazing in their own right!
🧚♀️ If you loved the fairies in the original fairytale then you'll adore them in this version, as they're even better!!
If you love tropes such as…
💞 Dual POV 🐉 Dragon companion 📜 A Russian Glossary Included 🍭 Sweet & Swoony Romance 🗡️ A Princess & Her Bodyguard 🏔️ Rich, beautiful world building 💖 Swoony, Clean Fairytale Retelling ❄️ All the Cozy Snowy Vibes!
☕ Then you need to add this to your Cozy Season TBR today! This would be the perfect book to read on a snowy winter day with a mug of cocoa ☕
💖 I LOVED this book & would rate it 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟!!!!
Thank you @valialind for the honor of arc reading your book!!
Valia Lind’s 'The Cursed Beauty' is a mesmerizing tale that beautifully blends fantasy and romance. From the first page, I was captivated by the rich world-building and intricate lore that immerses the reader in a realm filled with magic and mystery.
The protagonist’s journey is both enchanting and relatable, navigating the complexities of beauty and self-acceptance in a society that often values appearance over character. Lind’s writing is lush and evocative, drawing readers into each scene with vivid descriptions and emotional depth.
The character development is outstanding; each figure, from the charming love interest to the cunning antagonist, feels well-rounded and compelling. Their motivations are clear, making the conflicts resonate on a deeper level.
What sets 'The Cursed Beauty' apart is its exploration of themes such as empowerment, love, and the true meaning of beauty. Lind expertly balances romance with thrilling plot twists that kept me on the edge of my seat.
Overall, 'The Cursed Beauty' is a spellbinding read that will linger in your mind long after you turn the last page. Highly recommend for fans of fantasy and romance alike!

I'm obsessed! This story is sweet, cozy, and swoony, and I couldn’t put it down! The Cursed Beauty is the traditional Russian story of Sleeping Beauty complete with some Russian phrases and words. Thankfully there is a glossary included, which I appreciated!
Alyona is so likable and relatable. I felt her loneliness acutely and celebrated with her when she found her voice, because that's when the playful and joyful Alyona shone through. I loved all the little quirks she had. Lind created such dynamic and interesting characters. Nikolai is a cinnamon roll of a bodyguard. Insightful and intelligent and completely smitten. But he is also duty-bound, so this is all kinds of forbidden romance. Alyona and Nikolai have chemistry from the moment he enters the story and I loved all their sweet moments and playful banter.
I also loved all the side characters, especially Chudo, Alyona's dragon familiar. He was so adorable that he made me snort laugh on multiple occasions.
If you’re looking for a fairytale retelling with low spice (just kisses), cozy vibes, all the swoon-worthy moments, run and grab this book!
I liked this book. It began a little bit slowly, but I was drawn in and really overall enjoyed the story. It was a 4 star book, until the curse. I'll only generally address it so as to avoid spoilers, but I felt like it became unbalanced and rushed at that point. Then the last 3-4 chapters were just kind of fluff.
I think the story was promising and I would definitely read more by this author. As far as retellings go, it was creative and had aspects that made it unique.
I also think the Russian translations should be at the beginning. It's not but a few pages so I think the reference on the front end would be more ideal. That said, I just kind of assumed what they meant rather than moving to the reference. In a physical book it doesn't matter as much but with an electronic copy, it's much easier not to have to flip back and forth.
Anyway, it was good, it could've been great with a little more balance.

Princess Alyona cursed by an evil fairy at birth. If she isn't kissed by a prince by age 19, she will fall into a deep sleep that only the kiss from a prince will awaken her. Yes, this is classic and so wonderfully retold. With her parents trying to find a suitable prince for her, she is discouraged and puts herself into her first love: dance. When she sees who her bodyguard is, she is surprised. It is none other than Nikolai, the son of the palace cook who returned from the military. Alyona and Nikolai were childhood playmates. They seem to be drawn to each other, but must keep it to themselves since it is the law she marry a prince. I love how this is written in the point of view style so we can see what each of the main characters are thinking and what thought they can't say out loud. The characters are well developed and very likeable. I absolutely loved the ending. I highly recommend this book! I received and ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
This book had potential, but after the good opening, I soon found myself bored. The main characters quickly became flat, and there wasn't much happening.
Maybe more dragon time was needed? I loved the dragon, and I wanted to get to know the world (since the series is new to me). Something else I appreciated was tidbits of Russian in the dialogue and narrative - I love languages, so new words to learn are a great addition to novels.
I skipped ahead to the showdown with the villain, and that was a good part as well. I didn't have any desire to go back and fill in the rest, unfortunately. I would probably try more books in the series, and hope that a different pairing of main characters would hook me.
Note: I received an advanced reading copy of this book free so that I could review it. My opinions are my own and not swayed by the fact that I didn't have to pay.
I was unfortunately a bit disappointed with this, my first fairytale by Valia Lind. I went in with high hopes because the cover is beautiful, I love fairytale retellings, and I adore Russian folklore. Plus, this author came recommended by another author I really enjoy.
The story isn't bad. The writing is fine. The setting is lovely, though it only feels lightly Russian inspired (more just regular fairytale inspired), and the characters are mostly pleasant. But almost NOTHING happens. Aside from the first chapter, there is very little going on until about the 80% mark, which is then resolved very quickly and with minimal effort from the MCs.
Even in a cozy fantasy there has to be some sort of action.
I did really enjoy Chudo the dragon. (I ❤️ animal sidekicks.)
I will probably try another book by this author at some point, but not right away.
I was thrilled to have recied an Arc of Valia Lind's book, The Cursed Beauty. This book is a captivating read that truly enchants the reader from the very first page. The story centers around a fierce and spunky main character whose attitude lights up the narrative. Her determination and resilience make her an inspiring figure, and it’s easy to root for her as she navigates the challenges of her journey.
One of the standout features of this book is Lind’s evident love for her country, which shines through in the rich descriptions of the landscape. The snow-capped mountains are described with such vivid detail that you can practically feel the chill of the air and hear the crunch of the snow beneath your feet. The imagery is so immersive that readers will find themselves transported to this beautifully crafted setting, experiencing it alongside the protagonist.
This book was amazing! I loved Nikolai and Alyonka's relationship. She was so sweet and he was such a stoic, protective bodyguard. The storyline was written so well and I enjoyed it as it focused more on the romance instead of such a high-stake plot. Also, I loved how both the characters weren't so blind that they couldn't open their eyes to the love between them. I loved seeing all of Alyonka's suitors practically falling over each other to compete for her hand. One issue that I have with the book was that it was so easy to see where it was going to end up. I managed to guess what the main twist of the story was. Other than that, the book was great to read for the emotions and sweetness of the relationship between Nikolai and Alyonka. Definitely a great read!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
4.5/5 I took off .5 because I was Really confused with the Alyona vs Alyonka naming. Couldn’t figure out why one was used over the other and it took me out of the story a bit. Otherwise I really enjoyed this story. Who doesn’t love a romance between childhood friends, turned bodyguard, with forced proximity! I absolutely adored how their romance and feelings blossomed. Loved watching them warm up to each other and their quick, “sneaky” glances. How Nikolai would give little touches of comfort to let her know she wasn’t alone. Swoon!!! Sure we know the story of Sleeping Beauty but I was still on the edge of my seat. Really hoping we get more fairy tales since some were hinted at in this book.
The premise of this story had so much potential, but the execution fell flat. The plot didn’t make sense at times, but the main issue was a lack of editing. Everything from simple misspellings that spell-check would have caught to sentences that were half-finished! The entire book felt like a rough draft that no one bothered to read through a second time. I realize that English is probably not the author’s mother tongue, but all the more reason to employ an editor if that is the case. I felt frustrated that I spent money on a book the author didn’t care to polish before publishing. This is confusing, because I’ve enjoyed some of her other books, and while there were some editing errors in those, it was nowhere near as egregious as in this one.
This is part of a series, which concerned me since this was my first time reading any of the books that were part of the series. However, I didn’t feel lost and this book does fine as a stand alone. There are characters who you may want to know more of their story and for that you may find yourself buying more books. I loved the usage of Russian words throughout. Do not worry however, in the back the Author has included definitions for you to refer to. You’ll come away feeling as if you escaped to another land and possibly even have learned a few phrases! Loved the story rewrite as well as the traditional woven throughout.
Like the other books in this series I enjoyed, this is both a traditional and a non-traditional treatment of the "Sleeping Beauty" fairy tale. The author did an excellent job of creating relatable and realistic (in the context of this Skazka world) characters. I really liked the duty versus desire vibe of the story. I have to classify this retelling as being as traditionally original as Mercedes Lackey's Five Hundred Kingdoms version of the fairy tale.
I received an ARC from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
The Cursed Beauty by A Valia Lind is a beautifully sweet retelling of Sleeping Beauty set against a richly painted Russian landscape. The story captivated me from the start with its engaging and likable characters who brought warmth and depth to this classic fairy tale. The author weaves elements of folklore and culture into the narrative, adding layers of intrigue and charm. Overall, it’s a delightful, heartwarming fairy tale that I thoroughly enjoyed. Highly recommended for fans of unique retellings! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I loved this retelling! I adored the female main character and the male main character so much; I simply cannot express it. Alyonka was stubborn and her story really spoke to me. I cried a few times, but the great thing is, the story also had me laughing out loud at times too. Nikolai was also just a great character in the sense he was just so charismatic! I loved returning to the realm of Skazka and the kingdoms there. Valia Lind creates a masterful and magical setting. I loved the nods to the Russian Sleeping Beauty tale. Watching Nikolai and Alyonka navigate their love story was sweet but frustrating at times. I kind of wanted to talk some sense into them! I liked seeing the other royals from the previous books as well. The ending was sweet, the perfect happily ever after. Another great book from Valia Lind!
I enjoyed this sweet retelling of the Sleeping Beauty fairy tale from the Russian version. The author gives very visual descriptions and I could imagine the story in my head. There were very minor, occasional editing slips, more to the end of the book, but nothing that detracted from my enjoyment. Absolutely, if you enjoy fairy tales with a different spin, this book is for you.

I enjoyed this retelling that has the basic story I read as a child but then twists it and adds new characters and a new story that made for a great read. I laughed and groaned at times at the story but loved Princess Alyona. Really had a bit of a second chance romance feel mixed in with suitors trying to win the princess's hand in marriage with a overhanging feel of when the curse would strike. But I loved the characters and felt for Princess Alyona but loved her attitude. Well worth a read.
