Spectacular. The Commedia is one of the finest works of literature. This work is a great primer in the philosophy and theology of Medieval Europe, as well as a carefully crafted artistic masterpiece. And though it is over 700 years old, written in a vastly different context, its themes somehow still ring true in a personal, devotional way.
This marks the conclusion of my tandem slow read through both Mark Musa’s and Dorothy Sayers’ translations (with commentary) of Dante’s Divine Comedy, which I began almost a decade ago. My extended review encompassing both translations of this final volume are posted in my review of Sayers’ translation of the Paradiso.
