For the first time in one volume, the classic Forgotten Realms tales of Elaine Cunningham are joined by three all new stories!
Travel alongside Arilyn and Danilo, Liriel and Fyodor, and a host of characters valiant and infamous as they tread the forests and cities, the castles and dungeons, of the wide world of Faerûn.
Elaine is one of my favorite Realms authors, and Elaith Craulnober, one of my favorite characters. This was a delight to listen to more stories of both Elaith and Liriel. The only reason for the four star rating was in the reading. I listened to this on audible, and while the narrative was great, the reader made all of the male voices sound like a bad imitation of Keanu Reeves. I kept waiting for Danilo and Elaith to end each sentence with “whoa” or “dude.” It was a bit off putting.
I like that they had Elaine do all of the stories for this one. It seemed less disjointed. I like her writing and there were several twists throughout in the short stories themselves. However, it's hard to get any sort of rhythm just in a short story. If you're looking for more Forgotten Realms, go for this one of the "Best of", this one is probably the best.
This book of shortstories was a lot of fun for anyone who is a fan of Elaine Cunningham.
She includes great introductions to each tale, setting the premis or reminding the reader of each story's conection to other novels.
You can really see her progression in her stories as you go through the book, from her oldest to her newest stuff. I can honestly say that I think she has really improved (don't get me wrong, I like her old books too!) and I think she is one of the most talented writers that Wizards of the Coast have on their payrole.
Great collection of Elaine Cunningham's stories of the Forgotten Realms. She writes such engaging characters! Her short stories/novellas give us a chance to catch up with our favorite characters before, in between, and after her novels of their adventures.
