Have We Lost the Plot?

Rate this book
A life full of activity gives the appearance of a life full of meaning. But in our quiet moments we all know that doesn’t work. Meaning doesn’t come from staying busy. Turns out, we all are suffering from plot hunger. We need a story. A story worth knowing, telling, and retelling. A story worth living. A story to belong to. What if there actually is a narrative that makes sense of life as we see it? A story that can simultaneously give us hope without ignoring the suffering and pain around us? A story so big it’s more than “a story? Wouldn’t you want to know it? Better yet, wouldn’t you want to be in it, if you could?
Have We Lost The Plot? is a passionate plea to jettison our textbook and handbook approaches to the Bible, and rediscover and return to its unrelenting single storyline. Namely, that God has a “plan for the fullness of time to unite all things in heaven and earth in Christ.” If God’s people have lost their way in the last decade, it’s because they’ve either been lured away from this Story, or never knew it in the first place. Have We Lost The Plot? is a refreshingly honest, prophetically therapeutic, and realistically hopeful path to understand and rejoin this “plan for the fullness of time” — the One Story of the One God.

This is such a good read for helping to see Yahweh’s grand narrative. There is so much that we’ve missed about the fullness of the Good News of the Messiah. This book is the reason that the concept of “shalom” has become so dear to my soul. If you’re reading this review, please read this book! It may very well challenge some aspects of your worldview, but through an educated yet humble way.

If I reread this book I may update to 5 stars. For now, i give it 4 stars because of the text complexity. Its complexity is probably called for to some degree, but I didn’t find it the most readable book. There were a couple times that I found concept explained in confusing ways. This caused me to have to reread sections. After reading I would always be surprised how little I had read of this rich, yet relatively short book. This is likely due to my own lack of intellect. Until recently I was not much of a reader, so you as well as more mentally prepared future me will likely find it a more fluid read than this time through.
