This was such a great audiobook! First of all, the audiobook is read by the always fantastic Mary Jane Wells. Second, the audiobook is FREE on youtube!! And the book is absolutely sweet (kisses only) and such a unique romance with a circumstance that I don't think I have ever actually read in another historical romance.

I super recommend this for other historical romance lovers.

If I’m in the mood for short, sweet and uncomplicated historical romance I will certainly return to Ann Hawthorne. Some of the plot points are a bit too contrive for my liking (like overdosing on opium which is totally brushed over) but I can forgive it because of the short length.
I really like Ann Hawthorne’s heroes that are often prim and proper, uncharismatic but honorabel and endearing men.
This book won’t be for you if you want the bodice ripping, soul shattering passion often associated with historical romance, but if you want a short book about two peoples romance based on friendship and mutual admiration, this is for you. I like both parts of the genre, but this is a great palette cleanser.

This was highly readable with a well developed plot. The heroine is an 8nteresting character. Looked down upon because their family money came from trade, she is rejected by a well to do familiy even though their son appreciates her greatly. She is forced into a shameful position to keep her family solvent then gets the chance to return to the place she grew up. Will her secret be exposed? Will she be rejected? The book speaks oceans about the limited choices open to a working woman in regency times

It was a 2.5 read for me. I usually love these kinds of romances more but somehow this plot didn’t quite get to me.

I enjoyed the scandal twist and was like, 'yes girl!', as she had words for her mother.

I enjoyed this short and clean read from a new to me author. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author in the near future.
