Haven Ever After #3

Partying with Pixies

Rate this book
ALO A good Protector is focused on one thing—duty. That’s been my guiding mantra since I came to the hidden monster haven of Ever. My roles as Protector and father come first. But I’ve got a secret—I’m desperately obsessed with the beautiful, kind, mischievous pixie who lives across the street. Miriam Saihem invaded my mind first, building a rock-solid friendship I‘ve come to rely on. But my heart demands something more, someone to make it beat again. I don’t want to have to choose between her or my child, responsibility or love. I’m selfish-I want them both. When Miriam learns about a human holiday centered entirely around candy, she asks for my help making Halloween come alive. It’s the perfect chance for me to get closer to her and finally make the first move. But when an evil warlock sets his sights on Ever, those I love are in danger. I’ve got to find—and eliminate—the threat or I’ll never get the chance to make Miriam mine.

“I see you, Alo, the real you”.

“My goal is to never make your life harder. I want to make it eaisier, and you’re hard enough on yourself already.

“Abso-fucking-lutely”.

This is officially my new favorite in the series! With its abundance of pining and an alpharoll hero that kept making me swoon, I was sad to see it end. Although it does mean we're one step closer to getting Keeper's book, who has had me in a choke hold since the first book. I am not normally a fan of romance where children play a major role, so I was worried this one wouldn't resonate with me as much. However, with a little one like Iggy, it's hard not to love him...even if he was also the world's biggest cock-block. It's a good thing he's adorable, that's all I'm saying.

Alo and Miriam have been playing a game of "Who can pine the most" for five years, ever since Alo moved to Ever with his newborn son. As a Protector of the town and a single father, his loyalties have always been clear...but when it comes to Miriam, he finds himself longing for a moment of selfishness. Miriam has the biggest crush on Alo, but after years of waiting, she assumes he's not interested. When a moment of embarrassment pushes Alo to reveal his true feelings, things become heated...and complicated. Now, in the midst of planning Ever's first Halloween celebration, they must navigate the balance of a new relationship with keeping their friends and loved ones safe. When all is well, then they can focus on their own happily ever after.

With each book, I am curious to see how the couple's dynamics will play out. With the first book, we had a playful hero with a kinky side and a heroine ready to be indulged with snacks and intense bouts of lovemaking. In the second book, we were given a supportive, dominant hero and a curvy heroine who liked playing the brat to his daddy instincts. In this book, Hazel Mack has written a gruff hero with a gentle yet dominant demeanor who ensures no one hurts those he loves and a generous heroine who wears her heart on her sleeve and appreciates her man's intense passion in the bedroom. Alo and Miriam were just...perfect for each other. And they were honestly perfect for me as well. I loved the other couples, don't get me wrong, but they just clicked for me. Alo was the perfect combination of an alpha male and a cinnamon roll, especially when it came to Miriam and Iggy. His dedication to his son's wellbeing and his careful approach toward his relationship with Miriam had me melting. He was so selfless and sweet, even when I wanted to shake some sense into him. I love reading a pining romance where both are so oblivious to each other's emotions, because I feel like it's so similar to real life. At least for me. I, too, have trouble recognizing flirting when I see it.

Now, my expectations for the next book are sky high, so I apologize in advance, Hazel. No pressure.

**I received a free copy from the author and this is my honest review.**

4 ⭐️This was so much cuter than I expected!

I mean, I love this series, so I knew it was probably going to be good but I didn't expect to love Alo and Miriam (and Iggy!) so much. This book is about two best friend finally giving into their feelings after years of pinning and wow was it good.

I cannot wait to read the rest of this series!!

I usually use these reviews to say I want to live in Ever - and the third book made me want that even more. I think it's getting ridiculous how much I am pining for a fictional town.

📔 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼: Partying With Pixies, the third book in the Haven Ever After series by Hazel Mack.

📚𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲: Small town romance, monster romance, Halloween vibes, single parent, he's loved her all along.

📖 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗼𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀: Alo and Miriam have always been attracted to one another, but Alo's sense of duty to his town and to his son has kept him from making the next move. Finally through with holding back, Alo makes it his mission to make Miriam his as he helps her bring her Halloween vision to life.

🌟 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: The way the Haven Ever After series is written, if you've read the first two, you've been rooting for Alo and Miriam since the beginning. You can tell they're endgame, and the mutual pining has been keeping us on edge.

But hearing both of their POVs - how they've loved each other since the start, and hearing how Alo's backstory with his former mate and his relationship with his son, Iggy... it just was absolutely perfect. I was happy for Miriam getting her happy ending. And man, the spice on this one was next level. I don't want to spoil it AT ALL, but there's one scene that had me reading it twice.

This is weird to say for someone who writes romance reviews. But the thing that surprised me the most, and that I appreciated the most, was the incredible writing of the Halloween scene. The book centers around Miriam designing a Halloween celebration for the sister's birthday. You can really tell good writing when you can envision every single aspect of a scene. I was so sucked into those scenes - I felt almost giddy reading them. I went into a monster romance looking for just that, but was totally enthralled by the imagination that Hazel Mack has.

To say I love this series, again, would be repetitive... but well worth it. I LOVE THIS SERIES.

𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: 4.5/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

3.5 - 4 stars!

Partying with Pixies is Miriam and Alo's story and I was desperate to learn how Alo got his head out of his ass and finally claimed his Miriam. She has been pining for Alo since the day he moved to Ever. She was placed securely in the friend zone because Alo felt that his sole focus should be his son Iggy and there was no place for a woman in his life. Being burned by his past love and losing the beat of his heart was traumatizing and he couldn't see a future where his heart beat again.

Except....

Miriam always intrigued him and set his mind racing. If anyone was to be a permanent fixture in his nest other than Iggy, Mir would be it. So when he finally realizes that his and Iggy's life would be better with Mir officially chained to them, he goes all in.

“We might have been a slow burn, Mir, but we’ll burn all the hotter for it now.”

Was Partying with Pixies sexy and steamy? Absolutely.
Was there a great plot to go with their love story? You bet.
Did I get irrationally pissed off that Miriam didn't make him grovel a little more? YES!

Listen, I know Mir didn't want and didn't expect a grovel but Alo kept her at arms length for years....YEARS! I wanted a little more angst in him winning her heart. Maybe a bigger jealous/possessive moment or something. Alo literally just one day said...yep I want her and she said "YAY, let's do this!" Call me crazy but she should have least gotten some extra snacks out of this courtship. The whole other women thing too bothered the crap out of me even though it meant nothing.

All that being said, Alo did convince me of his obsession and love for Mir and that he really would go to the ends of the earth for his pixie girl.

"I want her all over me, and then I want to bring her snacks in our nest and fill her with my seed. The only reason I’d get so possessive over her this fast is because she’s mine, my mate, and my soul knows it."

I loved catching up with other characters and Hazel still teased the hell out of the Keeper and Morgan. I am really looking forward to their story. Overall, I thought this was a sweet and passionate story with a lot of heart butttttt

The real star of this story was Iggy....sorry not sorry.

Ever is such a cute town with wonderful characters and pairings and even though I have my gripes about little things I am still thoroughly enjoying this world!

the most precious friends to lovers, single dad, small town romance. and as a special bonus: he’s a gargoyle and she’s a pixie.

hazel mack slays the small town, cozy monster romance game, and this installment is no different. while this is my least favorite of the series so far, it’s still heartwarming (and loin-warming) in all of the best ways. cute, romantic, precious, with plenty of yearning and a smorgasbord of fun kinks like size play and chasing.

pick this series up if you’re in the mood for something both spicy and sweet and are in need of some A+ escapism.

Miriam is the coolest pixie, the bestest friend, the loveliest step-mom you can think of - she's literally perfection but you can't hate her for it because you already fell in love.

I really don't get how Alo could resist her for 5 years.

Ok this was cute!

Single dad isn’t my favorite trope even in fantasy. And we do hear a lot of references to Alo’s first mate. 🥲 It wasn’t that he was pining for her, but he just had a lot of trauma and heartbreak that she didn’t want their son, etc. And when he’s telling this to Miriam, it’s still “stabbing” and super hurtful. So I wish he was more over it.

But I didn’t doubt his love for Miriam. They also say that his heartbeat (which starts when they have a mate) had to be started with a potion with his ex, so it wasn’t right with her.

I just don’t like that he had a mate and child and we didn’t even hear anything about her relationships in the past?

I did like that Miriam doesn’t want to be in his nest where there’s images of his ex in carvings because that bothered me too.

Iggy the son was super cute though! And him and Miriam’s bond was evident.

I liked all the little magical touches and the idea of this town and all it’s quaint shops. The Halloween touches put me in the spirit too!

There is looming danger but overall it’s fairly low angst! Even the romance was, despite the years of pining. Miriam says she won’t make him grovel because he’s been through a lot, but I would’ve liked a smidge more tension and oomph to them finally being together after so many years!! But there is good spice and nice gestures.

So overall, there’s a bit too much of Alo’s ex references for my personal taste but he was definitely all about Miriam and they worked well together. That with the setting did make it a cozy fantasy read for me!

Cozy friends to lovers

Mr grumpy pants finally gets his girl. Alo was a dedicated father and had been pining after Mir for years while she poked for him. He was awful at communicating, but improved as the book went on. In true gargoyle fashion, he was obsessed with cooking. Where can I find me one of these?
Mir was def coded neurodivergent, taking manic pixie dream girl quite literally. She was very accepted for all her quirks by the community and fiercely defended for her weakness of time blindness.

Spice: 5/5

Triggers: grief, violence, discussion of parental loss

"The entire godsdamned town has been waiting for you to make this move. Now we've all got our metaphorical popcorn, and we're watching to see what happens."
I think that pretty much sums up this book. Everyone was ready for this romance to happen! Including me! Thank goodness it finally happened because I don't think anyone could take any more pining between these two. "Snack up, shack up!"

I'm so happy Iggy was featured so much in this book! It's not often we see monster kids in books especially ones that are such a part of the story. And I related so much to Alo. As a parent myself, I know how hard it can be to find those moments where you can have alone time with your partner. Sometimes they are few and far between but you make it work!

I'm not going to mention how many times I melted onto the floor when Alo called Miriam "pixie girl" or "pretty girl".

And I will could never thank Hazel enough for writing that . Knowing that I will never have that happen to me makes me so sad. Must be nice to live in a magical world like Ever.

So excited to see a little bit of Keeper and Morgan romance sprinkled in there!!

I think this series is just not for me as I feel there's more smut than a plot.

I don’t know what Hazel puts in this series, but I’m completely addicted to it. Every book is amazing, and Pixies is no exception. Alo and Miriam have been teased so much in the previous books, and them FINALLY getting together is everything I wanted it to be. And seeing the sweeter (and spicier) side of Alo is just the best. We learn so much about both of their pasts which makes their romance just so incredibly special. And of course we get a little more tease of Morgan and the Keeper, and I am SO READY for their book next!

I swear I can’t get enough of Iggy and his antics. He’s so adorable!! I really like that we got to know Alo a bit more and understand his reasoning for not pursuing things with Miriam. I love Miriam! I love her confidence and faith in Alo. She is a better female than I. I would have made Alo work for it a bit more since he’s kept her pining for him for years.

Daddy Alo! 🥵

I loved that this book (third in the series) takes the pattern of the first two and shakes it up a bit. We find that all the tension between Alo and Miriam is worth it!

This book is for you if you love:
*gargoyle x pixie
*single dads
*grumpy x sunshine
*mutual pining
*protective MMC

I love this series I love this series I love this series.

This was actually my most anticipated entry in the series because I love a single dad. But I put it off because I wanted to wait closer to book 4 releasing so...here we are! We're back in Ever. We’re planning a Halloween event for the Hector triplets. And Alo and Miriam are still pining like big ole trees for each other. Plus Alo’s lil baby boy is zipping around being an adorable five year old menace, mischievous and into everything.

The thing I love most about this series is that the angst is low and the ongoing plot isn’t swamping the relationship development. So we get TONS of Alo and Miriam and Iggy bonding, spending time together, and becoming a little family. Although they kind of already were. But the ongoing threat of the thralls (monster demon things and Wesley the baddy McBadderson of the series) is still ongoing. And this time we’re trying to find portals, baby.

Miriam is an independent pixie but we also get to see Alo step up when she's being bullied by her butthead boss and be like 'It you're ever mean to her again, I will squash you like a bug.” Maybe not quite that aggressive but when is a hot gigantic gargoyle defending his lady’s honor not the most attractive thing ever?

I also love that everyone in Ever is like "hey peanut heads, we all know you love each other and have for years so stop making yearning googly eyes at each other and just kiss already". Gotta love a supportive hometown, yknow.

PLUS HELLO I ALMOST LEFT THIS OUT: Extreme size difference because Miriam can shrink into a tinkerbell sized form and there’s oral involved and bless you for it Hazel Mack.

There is just something about this series that is so comforting to dive into and I love coming back to it with each new couple. Hazel creates a perfect slice of home to escape to every time.

Alo and Miriam were a long time coming and I’m glad Alo finally got his head out of his 🍑 and took his shot because he and Miriam were absolutely perfect together. It was clear they were each other’s best friends and it created such a beautiful foundation for their relationship.

Miriam fit into that family like she was made to be there. Her relationship with Iggy was so freaking adorable and precious and had me making this face 🥹 any time they were on the page. Iggy was an absolute STAR throughout the whole book and I freaking loved his sassy commentary and crazy reactions. He’s a definite MVP character for the entire series tbh.

I loved how low angst this book was from start to finish. It had all the soft cinnamon roll lovey-dovey perfect family feels. There was no third act breakup and even the big bad drama was like villainLITE this time around. That has me mildly worried for Morgan and The Keeper though because I have a feeling things aren’t going to be easy for them!

I seriously can’t wait for the next book and to escape back to Ever again already. 💚

I've been buddy reading this series with Destiny and Malli and I've been loving it so much. The second book kind of fell flat a little bit but this one is by far my favorite one so far. This is a single dad romance. Alo has been raising his son Iggy pretty much since he was born. He has given up pretty much everything so his focus was only on his son. He thinks that's the way it should be. I love Iggy so much. Normally when kids are part of a book they either don't play that big of a part or they are trying to break the couple up. That was not the case in this book with Iggy and I loved that so much.

I loved all of the pining between Alo and Miriam but I am happy that the author didn't drag it out through the entire book. Alo and Miriam are perfect for each other and I just loved reading their story so much. I didn't want it to end but at the same time it means we get the Keeper's story next which I have impatiently been waiting on since the first book. This book is a bit steamy so if that's not your cup of tea I would skip this entire series but if you're ok with so steamy scenes and some pining then I would highly recommend this book.

Needs to focus more on the plot. Always an interesting premise, but it piles on too much of the important plot info in only 3 chapters. Every book has the final chapter supplying the climax and crucial information. Needs to be spaced out better between the romance scenes.

Thoughts: I was ^ this the whole book, because I CAN NOT get enough of this series. If my TBR wasn't going to be the death of me I'd have already reread them. I am so thankful that I was offered this book as an eARC from the author. These are truly my own thoughts on how much I love this book!

I feel like I have been waiting for Alo and Miriam's story since the first book. It was so obvious that Mr Grumpy, Alo needed to allow himself to experience happiness in life, and when he finally gives in and decides he can, oh girl (well Miriam) watch out. So often in series the author sticks to a similar pacing, because that's a comfortable writing style for them, Hazel is no such author. This book was so familiar and so new at the same time. With Thea and Shepherd there was a medium bit of pacing as they pursued each other, Ohken and Wren was slow, teasing deliciousness, but Alo and Miriam was hot and heavy from the moment he gave himself permission. Like sex within the first few days, and it didn't feel rushed. It felt exactly as it should, Alo had been holding himself back and he would no longer stop himself from loving Miriam with everything he was.

I would be doing a great injustice to not say anything of our adorable friend Iggy. I would DIE for Iggy, but that's not why you're here. Iggy was the perfect 🍆 block but also the perfect example of why Miriam was the perfect fit for them. I literally stopped reading to tell my husband how perfect she was when on a date she made a comment about missing Iggy. I'll be honest as a step-child I worried how this story would play out in regards to Iggy, and if Miriam would ever be annoyed that he was around or getting in the way, but no when he interrupts them she rolls with it perfectly. She sees Alo and Iggy as the package, not Alo plus Iggy.

I said I would struggle to pick a favorite from this series and it just got harder. Don't take my word for it, please. Go read them, they are the perfect level of sweet and spice wrapped up in monster goodness.

I apologise that my quotes aren't as good with this review, I DEVOURED this book and didn't stop to make a lot of notes!

My Favorite Quotes:

❤️ Love Note: I read smut almost exclusively, so prepare yourself for my spicy shelves 😋 I am annoyed by closed door/fade-to-black spice, so if I read the book and recommend it, count on there being spice. Words are their own source of magic, be kind.

This book out of the series has the best Halloween vibes since Miriam has just discovered what Halloween is and wants to do something special for the triplets. And Miriam is so cute with how invested she’s getting into Halloween. It was so nice and sweet to finally see Miriam, Alo and little cutesy Iggy get their happy ending, especially since they were pining for each other for FIVE years. Iggy is so adorable. I love reading anything about him and his interactions. Especially when he told his father that his heart feels “fluttery” around Miriam even though his heart doesn’t beat yet😭😭. And he tells her he wants her to be his girlfriend. Plus, I love how perfectly Miriam fits in their lives. The tension and angst in the closet that Miriam and Alo had while playing hide and seek with Iggy??🥵And just all their spicy times in general. But Alo was so cute with Miriam. He had her solve riddles just like she used to do for him to persuade her to go on a date with him. How he helped her plan the Howl-O-Ween event. And then he made her a new nest so she could feel comfortable😭😭. And y’all, the epilogue with their Aunt Lou??? Hello?? What’s going on there? We better get some answers.

Summary:

Ever since Alo came to “Ever with his newborn child, Iggy, he and Miriam have been pining for each other since they laid eyes on the other. Although Alo held a high sense of duty and responsibility to his son, he didn’t believe he could give Miriam the life she deserved. So, for the next five years, Miriam and Alo became close friends and Miriam assisted Alo with Iggy at any time. Until one day, Alo comes to his senses and realizes he doesn’t have to choose between his son and Miriam, he can have both. But will the dangers lurking outside their haven prevent their happy ending?

Favorite quotes/scenes:

“Miriam is pixie perfection wrapped up in a lithe, powerful form with a dash of goofiness topped with powdered sugar.”

“I love her. I want her to be my girlfriend because she makes my heart feel—fluttery.”

“Looking at her, I see a glimmer of how things could be with her in our lives. My choice doesn’t have to be between Miriam and my son. I can have them both.”

“We might have been a slow burn, Mir, but we’ll burn all the hotter for it now.”

“I want to take care of you, Miriam. That smile on your face? I want to be the male who puts it there, every damn day.”
“You always have, Alo. It’s always been you for me, since the day you arrived in Ever.”

“Miriam is mine, my mate, and it’s my job to prove to her that I’m a mate worth having.”

“Whatever will bring a smile to your face is what I want, Miriam. But on the days you can’t smile, I want to be your safe space. Are we in agreement, pixie girl?”
“Yes. Abso-fucking-lutely.”

“Thank you. This is… unexpected.” (Morgan)
“That smile is worth it.” (Keeper)

“I can’t wait to spend the rest of my days proving to her that she’s what I need, that I’m sorry I delayed for so long.”

“And when I bite you, my heart will start beating. Only for you, Miriam. Only ever for you, for the rest of our lives.”
