A deliciously depressing collection of not-so-pretty poems, birthed and nurtured in the bleakest recesses of a woman's tormented soul. Each one a painful reminder that stars cannot shine without darkness. Each one a stinging wound that bleeds onto the page with imagery to inspire and help you purge your own personal demons.
I was very surprised at the depth of meaning to these poems. I've never read anything by Ms. Gray but I have read the Romantic poets and was surprised at how a couple made me feel like I was reading Christabel by Coleridge. In addition, her writing style changes with the theme of the poems, which I thought was impressive. One of my favorite types of writing is when an author can successfully combine beauty with the horrific. Sometimes they aren't a dichotomy. Sometimes they are the same thing and we sit through the experience of something horrific because we see a glimpse of the beauty and are fascinated by their ability to exist in the same space. Well done and highly recommended!
