As Gareth and his friends celebrate their latest victory in their quest to topple the gods an ancient horror wakes half the world away. Asked to help by a traveller to the tower they must seek out the terror lurking beneath the far side of Acamida.
With this new Dverger ally by his side, Gareth must navigate the treacherous outback, battling horrid monsters and discovering ancient secrets in its dusty wastes. Gareth will need every skill and card he owns to survive as he helps end a generations-old feud.
As Gareth grows in power so too does his terrifying new foe. Two great powers start a collision course that will change the fate of Acamida forever!
Ohhhh I can't believe you did that. How could you end the book there... huh? And how is Gareth gonna get out of that predicament?!? Fortunately I already nabbed the next book so I won't hafta wait to find out! And as the team travels the outback doin side quests their main quest is to fix the Godsword. And at the 4th one Magda has an epiphany. With every one she fixes she regains a small shard, memories of her past lives, and she now realizes these shards aren't turning back into what she once was, but helping her to become more of who she is, and completing her...
Here's a couple of quotes that amused me:
“There’s some cracking good-looking sheilas in these parts!” “Oh, well thank you, I guess,” Magda began. To her shock, the man pushed past her and took Mazel’s hand. “That skin, so green, like a croc. Loves crocs I do, and you beaut are a sight to behold.”
“To go there would be suicide.” “Sounds about normal for us,” Imelda said."
This book was a good departure from the previous two that were too safe. Adding a fair amount of personal stakes to the already established existential stakes. I really like the addition of a new team mate and felt like he added the right sceptic point of view to the story as well as the new cards he brought. I hope to see more people join the team and to see more deck affinities in both ally and enemy duelists. The only part that upset me about this book was in the note when the author said he was only planning 10 book. I would ideally like to see 20.
I was so happy to see that the next book had come out! I wasn’t sure if the book series was going to be finished and I’m so glad it’s still being worked on. This book was really good and I’m really enjoying the build up to the major threat that is coming! You get to see a good amount of character development in this one and No spoilers bvt we're starting to explore Henicgs past
A fun deck-building series. This book did a better job of balancing the game elements and progressing the story. We learnt of the Archons, which as the opposing force to the divinity for the rest of the series.
