The Immortal Accords #4

From Tortured Fates

Rate this book
No one is safe from the monster inside their head.

Abducted by an organization that’s pledged to eradicate all immortals, Lucius is robbed of more than just his freedom. Tortured and blinded, the volatile predator within him surfaces, bringing with it a wave of bloodlust. After an eternity of torment, he’s given up on being rescued—given up on staying sane.

Though she’s young, Circe’s unique tracking ability allows her to find the vampire elder when all hope had been lost. But finding him isn’t the hard part—it’s keeping him alive. As Circe heals his devastating wounds, her soul stirs, drawing them together with a fated mate bond she never saw coming.

His abductors stalk the shadows behind them, determined to recapture him. As Lucius begins to succumb to the poison in his veins, the starving predator within becomes more ravenous—and it’s her blood that calls to him.

After all, a starving vampire is a dangerous one.

Anna Hawke is a paranormal romance novelist dedicated to bringing to life the voices inside her head. With a degree in Journalism and a vested interest in grammatical perfection, Anna’s written works contain sarcasm, spark, and sexy alpha males too handsome for their own good.

When she isn’t busy wrangling her three young children, gorgeous husband, and an opinionated grey tabby, Anna enjoys reading romance novels, riding horses, and traveling to places where hiking boots are required. Writing, however, is her favorite pastime, and Anna loves nothing more than pouring herself a 24 oz mug of tea, wrapping herself in a blanket, and giving her imaginary friends a voice.

Oh my heart! Y'all. This book has wrecked me for the foreseeable future. I just can't with how much I loved this book! I know I'm not finished with the series yet but this is by far my favorite! I honestly don't see any other one topping it.

Circe and Lucius will forever hold a special place in my heart. The traumatic turn their story took literally broke my heart into a million pieces. The depths of emotions this book evoked in me was palpable. So much heartache, anguish, and fear had me on the edge of my seat unable to put the book down. I found myself needing to see the light come back into their eyes, needing the love they both so desperately yearned for seep deep into their souls, needing to see them happy and whole. Their story was so heartachingly beautiful. I loved every single minute of it. If ever two people needed a happily ever after, it was Circe and Lucius.

If you haven't guessed already, I am seriously loving this series. It feels like it's been forever since a series has completely captivated me. The world Ms. Hawke has created is unique and intriguing. From beginning to end, I feel like I have been transported to wherever her beloved characters are, living life right there by their sides. I can already tell this is a series that I will be reading over and over again.

If you haven't read anything by Ms. Hawke yet, I highly recommend you give her books a try. She has officially been added to be favorite authors/auto-buy list. I have loved everything I have read of hers so far and I cannot wait to see what she has in store for us next!

I know I say this all the time when it comes to my casting but... I am seriously loving these two! *dreamy sigh*

Da*n! That started out like a terrifying episode of Criminal Minds! Even though this book hurt to read, I could not put it down. I'm glad they got their HEA, but da*n! It was a rough story to read. But. Thankfully, it was a very good story.

This has been my favorite of the series so far. Circe and Lucius are magnificent together.

Lucius has such a serving heart, but he’s not weak or lame. The way Circe cares for him in his time of need is ❤️🔥.

I look forward to the next book.

Pg-13 heat. A few instances of cussing.

Enjoyable read. I loved the MCs and how their relationship developed. The only annoying part was the handful of TSTL decisions.

Note: This romance is fade to black.

TW: Torture, Mention of parental death.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I've already read five of the 11 published books in this series and this is the sixth, and my - I'd say this is by far the most heart-rending to read.

In this book, we learn more about Lucius, one of the vampire council members working closely alongside Kane, their leader. He is abducted by the human terrorist group hell-bent on destroying all immortal beings, and is made to endure horrific torture in their hands for several days. To help in his rescue, the members of the alliance of all immortal species seek help from Circe,, a Raeth with the exceptional ability to track anything, human or object. She succeeds in rescuing him, but together they endure a difficult ordeal in trying to get Lucius back to the vampire council headquarters. In their journey back to safety, they discover a fated bond connecting them, though it takes time and deep rumination for it to snap into place once and for all.

It weighed heavily on my heart and mind reading about Lucius' horrific ordeal and how it impacted him both physically and mentally. Even when he was safely returned to his brethren, profound pain continued to plague him through the betrayals he believed was levelled against him by those he trusted most. I was riveted to the book, eager to get to the point where Lucius would finally emerge victorious from his ordeals, and when he and Circe could finally solidify the bond that tethered their heart and souls. Getting to the end, my heart felt much much lighter, and I was more than glad to see how Lucius and Circe achieved their happily ever after.

I'm so happy, I could cry. This, I think, is the first closed door vampire romance that I actually like. Authors seem to favour werewolves romances over vampires, and I think that's sad. Vampires are so good, particularly in a market over saturated with fae romance. I strive to be a person that gives at least two tries to any author that's new to me, and I can say I'm glad I did.
Anyway, the story has some of my ultimate tropes in it. Such as tending to a patient and forced proximity. Even tho we're dealing with fated mates, I think the author takes the time to actually base "fate's decision" on something tangible. What I mean by this is that we can see why these two may end up together, it makes sense. One person is in the darkest moment of its life and the other has a nurturing heart and a sensibility to hear and understand.

Ignore the cover with her strange nose.

The book kept me wanting to know what is happening next present tense and future. So many fated mates.
Will they defeat the citizens? how do they know so much?! How are humans winning against supernaturals? Interesting who the other villain ended up being. I enjoyed both main characters personalities. Circe was not a fiery redhead so my brain had a hard time with that as she was more timid. Luc was a nice vamp who didn’t deserve what happened to him. Circe also had baggage that made her act the way she did

Warnings:
Forced proximity
Steamy but fade to black.
3 curse words (da*n)
Descriptions of torture and violence

I don't often read romance books that pull so hard on my heart like this book. Luc had been physically tortured and left so vulnerable that it shattered my heart. And the fact that the female didn't immediately run to him and help him like I wanted her too, made the book last more than a few pages, honestly, lol. Everyone has their own battles that they need to deal with. This was a great book. I just wish it had a little more spice, I kept waiting for it, but it was behind closed doors.

Loved the characters and the story! Great chemistry and definitely got more romance. Would definitely recommend, but read previous books in the series first as there are many important characters that make an appearance in this book.
*some grammatical errors and use of names in dialogue repeatedly but otherwise a great read

I enjoyed this one! The author did not pull punches when describing the torture and trauma that the hero had to endure. But it made the story that much more realistic, and the love that much more precious to hold! There were parts of the story that I didn’t fully love (some scenes that I were hoping sped up), but overall, I really enjoyed the action and the character growth in this one!

I really loved the suspense of this book! It was super interesting, and I loved how there were limits to both Lucius and Circe’s power. It made for an interesting story!

This book is a good addition to the Immortal Accords series. Luc and Cerci are such lovable characters and I enjoyed watching their story and getting to know the Raeths a little better.
