I hate the alien hottie who got us stuck in between worlds. Too bad I need to work with him if I want to get my life back.
Aliens don’t exist. Right?
I thought so too until I meet Ray. He’s charming, he’s hot, and a complete klutz. Thanks to one of his failed experiments with a new device, the two of us get stuck in between worlds. That’s right, he’s alienated us from the rest of the world. So what if he didn’t do it on purpose? I desperately need to get back to my daily routines, but I can’t. It’s enough to make me hate him.
Too bad I can’t leave this hot alien by the side of the road. The only way we’re getting out of this mess is by working together, and that apparently means traveling to a hidden base in the desert.
The possibility of getting my life back instead of being stuck in an empty world with no one but a sexy alien to keep me company is the only reason I don’t give up. But the farther we travel down deserted roads, the more it dawns on me that I won’t ever be the same after this—if we ever make it out.
This enemies-to-lovers clean paranormal romcom is a funny and lighthearted read that will make you wish aliens did exist after all. Alienhated is a dual POV, paranormal romantic comedy with all the sizzle, but no explicit scenes.
Thank you to Sophie-Leigh Robbins for my complimentary eARC of Aleinhated. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Well that was just about the cutest alien/human love story I’ve ever read. Actually it’s the only one. But I did enjoy the slow burn between Ray and Jo.
So many times I found myself chuckling at the antics of “Ray”. All of his manuals to help understand human behavior were so funny.
I need to take a few lessons from Jo and her willingness to step outside her comfort zone. Well she didn’t really have much choice.
Just remember to go into this one with an open mind and you’ll have a great time. A nice fast read for your Halloween TBR.

I'm going to DNF this one. I got more than 50% into it and then decided to skip to the end, which I'm happy that I did because it ended up being a very typical happy ending that wouldn't have been worth it. I've read this author before and have enjoyed two of their other books. But this one... For one, it wasn't keeping my attention despite having a potentially intriguing plot. Two, I found the main characters really annoying. They're both native and ignorant for different reasons, one being a girl who follows routines and one being an alien that doesn't completely understand human emotions. Josephine, the main character, is so used to having specific routines in her life that when she is put into this, possibly life or death situation, she understandably panics and gets angry. However, she almost acts childish when confronting Ray about this situation. She'll throw random insults at him that make no sense but will still try to stand by them despite having no ground to stand on. And even though she is right to be angry at Ray, her anger makes her seem blindsided. Then Ray, our love interest, doesn't totally understand human emotions, so he treats this situation like it's an everyday mistake and could happen to anyone. And when Josephine continues to get mad at him for this, rightfully so, he gets mad right back and can't understand why she's so mad about her life possibly getting erased! The conflict between them lasted a little too long and kind of felt forced as well as unnecessary at times. There's also a cat thrown into the story for whatever reason. Not that I don't like an animal companion or have a problem with the cat. But they're just kind of there. Maybe there was something more to the cat that I missed, but they appeared to be an extra thing just thrown in. It was a good attempt for an alien rom-com, but it was lacking. Normally, I love me a short, funny rom-com. However, this didn't work for me
– this is told from Josephine (Jo) & Ray’s points of view
– there are about 3 uses of the ‘a’ word for a butt/donkey (used when referring to someone’s butt in the book)
Review:
This book was more of a 4.5 star book for me, but only because I wanted more romance development. (For me it was just a little too instalove coming off the hating aspect for Jo.)
Despite the instalove feel of the story, I enjoyed reading it and the silliness of the different events that occurred! I especially enjoyed the names of the different manuals Ray had on humans/human behavior. They were entertaining both in their acronyms and their written out meanings! I also really liked that Ray was clearly still trying to figure out how a real human would act in various situations. And Jo was a great grump to Ray’s sunshine. I liked that she was flopping between ‘this can’t be real,’ the grumpy ‘why me,’ and the anger at Ray for having caused this crisis in the first place.
Summary:
Josephine likes the quiet routine of her life as she rebuilds what her scamming boyfriend stole from her. But when her routine is foiled in the most absurd and unexpected way possible, Jo questions what she really wants for her life. Especially when it brings Ray, her new neighbor and apparently an alien, into her orbit.
Ray is on Earth to do experiments and learn more about Earth life. But when his clumsiness leads to a massive issue with one of his experiments, Ray unexpectedly pulls his human neighbor, Jo short for Josephine, into his life. While he had an interest in her, Ray by no means meant to let her know he’s an alien. But now that they’re both alienated from the reality as they knew it and Ray needs Jo to come with him to get them back, the lines need to be blurred. Or he’ll risk losing her forever…
Oh what a fun read this was! I wasn't quite sure what to expect from this book. I'm honestly not entirely sure I have ever read a book about aliens... so this was definitely a new one for me! Still, despite being rather different than my typical romcom reads, I found myself enjoying every single moment.
In many ways, this had everything that I look for in a romcom. It had the fantastic banter that comes with enemies to lovers. It had a road trip and forced proximity with the chemistry that can bring. And we get a hot but clumsy MMC and the laughs that always come with that type of clumsiness... he just also happens to be from another planet, of course! I think that the paranormal element really just adds to the humor of it all and I absolutely loved it! This is definitely a shorter read--- just a little over 100 pages. As such, it can easily be read in just one sitting. Despite it's shorter length, it felt complete and not at all rush--- just the perfect lighthearted, fun read for the Halloween season (or anytime you want a little out of this world fun!).
Alienhated is a closed-door romance with great chemistry, but nothing beyond kisses. There is a handful of very mild language as well.
**I received an ARC for consideration. All opinions are my own.
A cute, quick, and easy novella read with a little extraterrestrial spin. While it is definitely otherworldly, the story is still very much a sweet rom com. Jo ends up trapped between worlds after her neighbour, Ray turns out to be an alien who made a mistake that landed them alone and stuck. Jo takes some convincing that Ray is the real deal. “The fact that I’m even entertaining the thought that this whole alien thing is true is laughable, but scary as hell.” The only solution to their problem is a road trip together to a remote base where Ray can fix his mistake. For pretty obvious reasons, this story is enemies-to-love initially. “‘As far as I’m concerned, you’re alienhated from now on.’” The romance is sweet as adversity brings the main characters together and love blooms quickly. There are some fun and funny moments throughout. The characters are great and I enjoyed the development of their relationship. It is only lightly addressed, but the female main character deals with anxiety issues. This is a closed door story with descriptive kissing and a few instances of mild harsh language.
“ But you becoming my wife one day is a possibility that lights up my life with glow of a thousand stars.” -Ray
Alienhated was such a fun and cute romcom! Sophie you did amazing with this one!! I love all of her books and this cute novella was perfect this Halloween season! A hot clumsy Alien A girl who loves routine Accidentally end up in an alternate dimension, alone! This was perfect! I’m so happy with the ending!!! All your books always make me feel happy and warm inside and this novella wasn’t any different! Ray will forever be my favorite! He is extremely hot and has a way with words!! Jo was perfect for him!
I am totally digging this mix of paranormal and romantic comedy in one book! I was impressed at how Sophie progressed the relationship between Jo and Ray and kept the paranormal storyline moving forward throughout the book. Jo and Ray start out as enemies because of Ray accidentally exiling them to a different dimension. As they move through the story Jo sees Ray as endearing and caring and Ray figures out he has feelings for a human. I loved that their journey to love wasn’t easy but a happily ever after was found.
This was my first venture into the paranormal realm, and I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it turned out to be such a cute read! I didn’t think I’d end up so endeared to an alien, but Ray completely won me over with his sweetness—and he might even be a bigger klutz than I am! When Ray accidentally gets himself and Josephine stuck between two worlds, they’re forced to team up to find a secret base and set things right. Their adventure together is filled with laughter, mishaps, and unexpected connection. With its charming enemies-to-lovers vibe, sizzling tension, and zero spice, this quick, fun read is perfect for getting into the Halloween spirit!
Alienhated by Sophie-Leigh Robbins was such a cute quick story. It is a rom-com with a mix of paranormal. It is so different from what I normally read but I adored it. I don't think I have ever read a romcom involving a human and an alien but this one did not disappoint. I love the banter in this book. Sophie-Leigh Robbins has quickly become a must-read author for me.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving my honest review voluntarily.
A quick, adorable alien romance read. This novella was so charming. I loved how funny and innocent Ray was. I loved the anxiety rep that we got with Jo. I would have loved to have more of this story, but overall a super cute read.
I absolutely loved this adorable alien romance! Ray is the cutest, most clumsy alien who falls hard for Jo, an anxiety-ridden human who thrives on her routine. Needless to say, he messes it up in the best way💛 also-the acronyms for Ray’s human manuals?! Hilarious🙌🏻
Klutzy alien disguised as an attractive human man and an anxiety filled human woman on a mission to fix the klutzy aliens mistake? Sign me up! It was a great short read, I only wish it was longer!
A super cute, feel-good Halloween-ish romantic comedy! It was silly and fun. I enjoyed Ray and his bumbling around Earth. Jo was super relatable! Overall, read it! It’s a quick enjoyable fall read. 🧡
This was an adorable mash-up a little bit RomCom & a little bit Paranormal. I loved Jo’s character she was fun and bubbly. Her reaction to meeting her new neighbor Ray was hilarious. I loved all of Ray & Jo’s interactions together. Their meet-cute was fun. And when Ray tries to tell Jo he’s an alien it doesn’t go over do well. So grab yourself a copy and find out how Jo deals with the hot alien next door. This is an enemies to lovers paranormal romcom novella.
„I hate the alien hottie who got us stuck in between worlds. Too bad I need to work with him if I want to get my life back. Aliens don’t exist. Right?“
Príbeh obsahuje niekoľko zábavných a vtipných momentov.
