This was really not my thing. The book was all over the map--it felt like the author never quite nailed down in his own mind who his audience would be. In some sections, the information was too advanced for newbies, and in other sections, it was too simple for people who have a good knowledge base. Also, some of the advice was just bizarre. He suggested that if you're in a restaurant where no vintage information is given on the wine list, that you narrow your selection to 2 or 3 choices, and ask the waiter to check the vintage. The key point here is that if you're in a restaurant that doesn't list vintages, trust me, it's NOT going to matter what vintage they hold - all the wine is going to be low-end quaffers. (And I can go on and on with strange advice he gave along those lines.)

The one good piece of information I got out of it was that Barbaresco and truffles are a perfect pairing, and so I had a perfect excuse to give that a go!

This is not really about uncorking your creative juices, just why you should uncork a bottle of wine and how it's been done through the ages. The only thing the book touches on is getting friends together, cracking open a couple bottles and writing poetry in such a general way and for so briefly, you might miss it. I almost did. So, the title was misleading and that lost a star from my rating. Had it been titled "How wine has inspired through the ages" I would have still grabbed it & enjoyed it much more. So, now you know. It's a good read about wine trivia. Salut!
