Things that stress out this widowed single mom: high fructose corn syrup, intrusive thoughts about my son getting swept up by a tornado, and the sexiest hockey player to grace this planet.
Oh, and the fact that I’m also said hockey player’s physical therapist. But we’ll lock that tidbit away in the same nightstand as my battery-operated toys.
Moving my son and me across the country to live with my three best friends and our seven children into one dilapidated Boston brownstone should have been the biggest risk I’ve ever taken–not figuring out how to protect my heart, career, and panties while trying to navigate my secret double life.
But Rowan ‘Slick’ Parker is nothing if not hell-bent on taking slapshots at my comfort zone. The more I try to keep things professional, the more he works to break the rules with his charming grin, piercing gaze, and world-class rear end.
Not to mention, he adores my son.
So, I finally give in.
Don’t worry, though, it’s all temporary–a way for us to get each other out of our systems.
But little do I know, ‘temporary’ has a way of leaving lasting impressions on the heart.

I’ve had high expectations because I knew this was a hockey romance but I was bored 50% of the time. There are good moments but the rest were just not for me.
I feel so much for Shay, what she went through with her husband changed her from a carefree easy-going girl to this health freak mom. What she did was very relatable, we had all been there, doing something to the extreme (eating healthy, etc) and doing exactly the opposite in secret due to shame and guilt. I love that Rowasn slowly brings her out of those habits, and makes her relax a little bit.
It took me a while to like Rowan, as he was so pushy at the beginning, and I was not a fan. But once I got to know him, better, I fell for him. He is such a cinnamon roll, but in the bedroom, he’s an alpha and a dom, and he’s hawtttt. All his interactions with Kai are adorable, he genuinely loves the kid, not just because he is Shay’s son. And Kai is just the cutest little boy ever, I think he might be my favorite out of the kids, he is so sweet, polite, and understanding. He never got upset at his mom with all her rules and restrictions, he just had such a big heart!
I was counting on this to be my favorite, but though I love it, Mother Faker is still on top of my list at the moment. I’m crossing my fingers for Mother Hater, as Delia is my favorite character, and I’m counting on her book to be my favorite!!!!
The third book of the MomCom series! It stands for Mom Commune, not Mom Comedy, though it should as this book was funny AF. We were introduced to 4 moms, who all will get their books:
𝕋𝕙𝕖 𝕄𝕠𝕞𝕤 & 𝕂𝕚𝕕𝕤: Mother Faker 𝓞𝓵𝓲𝓿𝓲𝓪 - Work as a publisher, recently divorced from a cheating husband ▶️Adeline “Little One” (2yo) - The cutest baby girl ▶️Finn “Huckleberry” (4yo) - Always armed and loves wearing a tutu and camo pants ▶️Winnie “Bear” (8yo) - Artsy little girl
Mother Maker 𝓓𝔂𝓵𝓪𝓷 “Dippy Do” - Hippie Stay-at-home mom ▶️Liam “Demon Spawn” (15yo) - Wear headphones all the time
Mother Pucker 𝓢𝓱𝓪𝔂𝓵𝓪 “Pipsqueak”- Widowed single mom, she’s overprotective and a hypochondriac ▶️Kai (8yo) - Overprotected by his mom, not allowed to eat junk food
Mother Hater 𝓓𝓮𝓵𝓲𝓪 “Medusa” - Men Hating Independent Lawyer ▶️Phoebe “Shining Twin #1” (8yo) - Overly smart 8yo who likes to extort money from adults ▶️Collette “Shining Twin #2” (8yo) - The complicit of the above
I have really enjoyed this series and am both excited and very sad that I only have one left. What I AM excited about is the fact that all of these authors have created continued series in this world with some of the characters that we have met!! I was intrigued and wondered who was going to get Shay to loosen up the reins that she had on her life and her son, and I don't think anyone could have done it better than Rowan. They had wonderful chemistry. Rowan knew just what buttons to push to get Shay to come out of her shell, but he also knew when to be real and understand where she was coming from. Reading about his interactions with her son were just swoonworthy.
Shay has been living a shell of her life since tragedy struck and her husband passed away from cancer. Since then, she has done everything she can to keep her son Kai safe. No he can't rollerskate. No he can't eat anything with red food dye. And absolutely not, he can't play hockey. She is content with her job and her life...at least she thinks so until she is thrown into a situation where she ends up being the physical therapist for none other than Rowan Parker. THE Rowan Parker. The only man that seems to have caught Shay's eye but of course she is going to keep things professional. But no one said that HE would. Now she finds herself in somewhat of a relationship with Rowan who makes her question some of the decisions she has been making. Not in a bad way but more like what will it hurt you if you eat a hot dog. He makes her want to LIVE again. He makes her smile. And the biggest thing is that he makes KAI smile. He wants to teach Kai how to play hockey. He is showing Shay that he can show up for her and be that person, but will she be able to drop the reins? Will she be ok with the world knowing she is with Rowan?
Rowan is on the other side of a bad relationship. He has moved towns and lost a BF but is liking what he is doing. He is enjoying life. He isn't looking for anything- that is until he finds her. Now she is all he can think about. Shay. His physical therapist who is helping him with a hurt groin muscle. Shay who only seems to open up with him. Shay who shows him her wild side. Shay who is an amazing mom. Shay who seems to be holding back from letting him all the way in, but what Rowan wants, Rowan gets. And now that she is in his sights he is going all the way.
If you haven't picked up this series, I highly recommend that you do. The banter was once again great with ALL of the characters. The spice was HOT. Found family made me smile. I loved meeting Rowan's sister and am excited that there will be a series about her. I loved watching the other mamas with their new men, and OH MAN I can't WAIT to see who Delia ends up with. And what is this plan that Beckett and the other men are hatching?? I am thinking it has something to do with all of the real estate in the area LOL.
Man! I wanted to love this one but I think maybe this author’s writing style is not my cup of tea. Also, the plot and drama made absolutely no sense. It should have been more of a pursuit to date her with intentions clear than to hire her because she is not a pro athlete specialist and it is unbelievable. I think the professional relationship could have been eliminated and instead he could have gotten to know her or spent time with her while under the vise of helping her son skate. Their meet cute could have been the same with her evaluating him after the injury, but then he could have shown up again as someone who was willing to do private lessons per Bossman’s request. I would have avoided the whole physical therapist aspect completely. Also, I think the drama could have been more about her letting go and being ready and not playing into her neurotic fears and not about being public with a stain on her career. Also, if you like the words juices and folds this is your thing. I felt like the writing was extremely repetitive and that took me out of the story a lot. I love this series and can’t wait to read the next one. But this one truly fell short.
Least fave book of the series… Shay was ANNOYING, had to put down the book every 5 min bc of how overbearing she was (understandable, but damn it). Rowan was a sweetheart! I wanted more Becket and Courtney ngl… Btw a name of a person starts with a capital letter!! That shit bugged the hell out of me The spicy scenes were cringy af I don’t usually write a review like this, but i loved the first 2 books a lot and was kinda disappointed with this one
I loved the other books in the series and I wanted to loved this one too. Unfortunately I think I pulled a facial muscle with the amount of eye rolling this book induced. The only reason I finished it was to have the back story for the 4th book. Fingers crossed 🤞
Wellllllllll this is my least favourite in the series on this reread. Shaya was annoying honestly 😞 I'm bummed
Original review
First of all if you're a fan of single parent romances READ THIS SERIES omg!!!
Spoilers ahead, 3.5* My first read by this author but continuing the series
This is Shayla and Rowan's story, with her husband's unexpected death from cancer Shayla lives her life very strictly. Eating foods that are healthy and keeping herself and her son Kai away from anything that could be perceived as remotely dangerous. When a player from Beckett's brother's hockey team is injured she's requested as his personal trainer. With Rowan she not only learns to break her rules but also how to truly live and.....love
***** I gotta admit the beginning was pretty slow and I got bored a little but when these 2 finally got involved.....all the awwwwwwwws I was a little worried about Rowan being a manwhore with the reference to pick bunnies but he definitely proved himself. Hot, sexy, loyal and totally gone for Kai too I admit I swooned a little Now the h has another female friend who got a couple mentions and I didn't like that 😂. It's weird I know but the friendships between these women is what started this crazy journey and I wanted them to just have each other. Turns out that friend is from another of this author's books so I can see why she was mentioned I loved Rowan's relationship with Kai and I really wished I could've had more scenes with them together We see the previous couples and the new baby All in all I really love this series and I hope at the end we get a great epilogue to show them all a couple years later
***Extended epilogue 🥰😍🤩 through the newsletter sign up but still I'm grateful 😂
Age gap with the H being 8 years older than her Single parent h No cheating h's husband died from cancer some years previously
This is cute. I love me a good hockey hottie romance
This story is more about finding yourself after grief and letting things go to start enjoying life and what better way to do that than in the sheets with a hockey star.
Not sure where to start with Shay's story. This vibrator obsessed. uptight, rule follower needs a man BAD! I don't know who needs that many vibrators and I don't know anyone who carries one around in their handbag. I mean you'd need to be pretty desperate to get off while your out.
Apart from the vibrators, this was another fun instalment to a really enjoyable series. I fell for Rowan the slick ice hockey player with a heart of gold.
Trope - hockey player MMC, doctor × patient, physical therapist FMC, single mom, reverse age gap (8 years), secret relationship, strangers with benefits, insta-lust, found family, romcom
Bonus chapter - 1
Ducking Beckett and his meddling, had me cracking up from the start. Rowan gets injured mid-game which leads Shayla into his life as an emergency PT, but once his eyes land on her he wants nothing but her. The vibrator going off during the first meeting was hilarious.
Rowan was cocky but Shayla wasn't easy herself, the amount of sass she has around him. She was uptight and he was the perfect guy to loosen her up. I'm not a fan of the reverse age gap, but this one has me on edge, I was curious to see how Rowan would behave around a woman a decade older than him, would he be immature or cocky and smart?
Shayla is Indian? I had no idea, it wasn't until Beckett said her whole name that I started having doubts about her nationality. Her late-husbands name indicated this origin but I thought it was a transnational marriage nevertheless, I was the happiest after knowing this fact about her.
Rowan Parker, this guy was sweet. He not only helped her gain control over her issues but also did his due diligence by supporting and taking steps to help her relax. He fuckin brought organic ingredients for her and her son, how sweet is that? Very sweet. I liked how his demeanor changed when he realized she had a past. He has been burned himself yet seeing him take small steps even unconsciously towards her seemed like a big deal. The amount of happiness I received after the burrito scene was insane. I loved how he explained to her the fear she had and how she needed to let go from time to time to be happy. “I’m not one to make wishes, Doc. I’m the one to make things happen.” “But with you, I find myself searching the sky for shooting stars.” ROWANN!!! you cutie swoony guy.
Shay's self-deprecating thoughts made me sad, I was happy to see Beckett being there for her, he listened to her concerns and tried to provide an honest opinion on the matter. Even though he wasn't a certified professional, sometimes being the ear to someone's problem is all a person needs to relax. Beckett once again stole the show, I loved how he pushed her buttons and forced her to take steps she was hesitant to take. His teasing her was the best scene, they behaved like siblings and I was so happy to see he brought comfort into Shay's life.
I was so glad to see the girl's friendship in this book, it was something I really wanted to see in the previous book. Nevertheless, the bond was so precious, these girls had each other's back and I loved how the girls pushed her to explore a relationship with Rowan. Watching their love and support for one another pleased me.
Kai was the sweetest kid. Also, I was happy to see the active participation of all the Brownstone family members, it just made this book so much better and funnier. _______________________________________________________ THING THAT HAD ME ON MY NERVES, and can be seen as a reason this book lost the 1 star. * Shayla referring to his dick as anaconda and then it was a sword and many more words, all this was honestly kinda weird, it had me feeling all icky. JUST USE THE NORMAL TERM!!! _______________________________________________________
The relationship between the couple was gradual and natural. At no moment did it feel like the things were rushing. I loved how Rowan's character grew mature over time and he understood the responsibility that comes with a child. Shay became more easygoing, thanks to him and I liked how they both balanced each other out. I honestly loved the bond between Hh, the book not only explored the happy parts of the relationship but also the lows which added a lot to the whole aspect.
This book went relatively faster, it was smooth and good excluding all the food associations with male phallus.
The epilogue and bonus epilogue both were really beautiful, everything was so innocent and genuine that I couldn't help but smile for these two characters. Their family grew and so did their bond.
Surprisingly this one was better than the previous one, Overall 3.75/5
Absolutely LOVED this book and LOVE Swati! Any time I pick up one of her stories, I always know that it’s going to be an amazing read, and this was no different!
After losing her husband and becoming a widowed, single mother, Shayla packs up her and her son, Kai’s life and moves into a brownstone with her best friends where they help raise each other’s children. But ever since her husband’s death, Shay lives in a constant “ball of nevers”. Beyond being a physical therapist, her fears and habits have her saying no to everything, becoming obsessed with living a healthy lifestyle and preventing her kid from being a kid. Until an NHL hockey player comes unexpectedly into her life.
When Rowan “Slick” Parker winds up with a groin injury during a game and the team’s doctor is unavailable, Beckett offers Shay’s services and sends her to the locker room to assess his injury. When Rowan catches Shay checking him out, he decides right then, and there he will stop at nothing to make her his. The attraction between Rowan and Shay is instant so much so that Rowan demands Shay be his physical therapist moving forward. The chemistry between these two is enchanting, even with Shay not willing to cross ‘that’ professional boundary with Rowan.
During their time together, Rowan slowly breaks down Shay’s walls and shows her how she can still live a healthy lifestyle but have fun with it, too. She starts to loosen up the reins on her “ball of nevers” and to see her grow and give that freedom to Kai as well, was beautiful. The respect Rowan showed by making sure when Kai was with him, that he still provided healthy food and drinks, because of the importance of it to Shay, melted my heart. Watching Rowan and Kai’s friendship unfold was such a highlight to this story. He truly loved that little boy like his own.
I really loved how Swati incorporated one of her other books 𝘈𝘣𝘭𝘢𝘻𝘦 within this one, and it left me with the biggest smile seeing my book husband again! Swati did such a phenomenal job writing this hockey, single mom, reverse age gap, romcom romance, and I HIGHLY recommend picking up this book and falling in love with Shay, Rowan and Kai!
Let's start with the warning. This laugh-out-loud hilarious and super steamy romcom is best read out of the public eye due to the unavoidable blushing it will cause. Please use caution eating or drinking while reading. Unanticipated humor may cause choking or drink spewing, and nobody wants that. Not only is it messy, but imagine having to what sent you to the ER.
After her husband's death, Shayla Kumar and her son, Kai, moved across the country to live with Shayla's best girlfriends. They’re strong, independent women who don’t need men, yet they’re falling, one by one. Shayla has the support of her friends, but loss has left its mark. As a result, she's a bit overprotective and obsessive about healthy living. Bless her heart, she gives a whole new meaning to helicopter parent. On the rare night when she let’s her hair down and relaxes at a hockey game, she gets roped into providing physical therapy for one of the hockey players.
Yes, Rowan Parker may be a player on and off the ice, but the minute he covertly observes Shayla checking out his goods, he's done. He wants Shayla, and only Shayla, to help him recover from his injury, but it's a means to an end. Because he wants everything with her. Turn on the fan, ladies, because while Rowan “Slick" Parker may be an alpha-roll hero, his smart mouth and bedroom playfulness will definitely have you blushing. And the way he interacts with Shayla's son Kai? *SWOON*
This one has the perfect balance of all the elements we love in a top-notch romcom. Your barks of laughter will frighten the family pet, the smexy chemistry will have you running for a cold drink, and the emotional workout your heart gets will leave you happy and sated. Humorous, heartfelt, and Hades-hot, this read is the best kind of fun you can have while still being legal, so don’t miss it!
Mother Pucker, book three of the MomComs Series by Swati M.H.- My rating is 4.5 stars (rounded up to 5.)
This is the third book of the series and I’ve read them all in order…it blows my mind how each book is written by a different author but they all flow so seamlessly together. These novels can be read as standalone’s but I highly recommend reading them in order for the best reader experience.
This story focuses on Shay and Rowan.
Shay is a widowed, single mom, having lost her husband to cancer. She took her son Kai and moved across the country to live with her three best friends and their children, all vowing to help raise each others children in a loving and supportive environment. What started out as four women and seven children, has expanded to include two men, Beckett and Cortney, as her best friends find love. She works out of her home office as a physical therapist and spends all of her spare time worrying about anything and everything. After losing her husband, Shay began to worry and obsess over every detail of her life, from what she and Kai eat and put into their bodies to Kai hurting himself just doing the things that a normal kid does, such as playing outside, or participating in sports. She’s anxious and stressed out all the time and cannot remember the last time she let loose and just had fun. Rowan is a professional in the NHL, playing for Beckett’s brothers team. He’s a young, handsome man who is extremely confident and playfully cocky. He draws attention everywhere he goes. He’s career minded and striving to win the Stanley cup with his team. He ends up injuring himself during a game and the team doctor is tied up with another injured player. Beckett offers up the services of Shay and sends her down to the locker room to do an assessment of Rowan’s injury. The attraction and chemistry between Rowan and Shay is instant…and soon Rowan has demanded that Shay be his personal physical therapist to see him through recovery of his groin/thigh injury…
I loved the plot and pacing of this story. The chemistry between Rowan and Shay is magnetic!! Shay tries so hard to stay professional. She’s eight years older than Rowan, believes she has too much baggage, is determined to never be in love again (among a multitude of other reasons,) …but Rowan is so damn persistent. Through their professional relationship he begins to learn a lot of things about Shay and Kai. He begins to understand her need to control the aspects of her life that she can and is determined break Shay down. He is such a free spirit and so patient with Shay. He begins to show her what life can be like if you “break the rules” on occasion. It’s a beautiful thing to watch Shay find the carefree, spontaneous woman that she lost so long ago. Rowan accepts Kai with open arms and begins to bond with him, bringing him out of the shell he’s been hiding in since his dad’s death. I loved watching the evolution of the relationship between Rowan and Shay and also Kai. So many good things happen in this story but I don’t want to spoil anything! There is a plethora of support characters and they all add to the quirky family that resides in the brownstone. They’ve truly created a family of their own and Rowan and Shay fit right in.
This novel has everything. It’s hilarious and the banter is fantastic but there are also plenty of heartfelt, tender moments. There are extremely passionate and spicy scenes, as well. From the start, I’ve really liked how unique this series is and it has quickly become a favorite of mine, with Rowan and Shay being my favorite couple. I’m looking forward to reading the last book in the series!
I received an advance reader copy and am leaving my review voluntarily.
Let's say I need a Rowan in my life, I don't ask for anything more than just one like him, I would be happy.
I loved the story of Shay and Rowan, I already wanted to know Shay's story because of everything she has been through, because of how she is with her son Kai and all the healthy things and my God she didn't disappoint me, Shay is a mother that wants her son to always be healthy (she almost wraps him in bubbles), that wants everyone around her to be well, especially her friends that she lives with and I liked that she didn't close the door on Rowan right away, that she was patient and saw that she deserved all the best. Rowan, what can I say about him without becoming a fangirl? I liked how patient, supportive, and loving he was with Shay and little Kai, I liked that even though he had an attitude, he understood all of Shay's manias, and that he taught her that it was good to get out of your comfort zone to have a little fun.
This book definitely surprised me, because although it has the fun rhythm of the others, I found it a little more serious, but without any drama, a flirtatious story, with charming characters and with my momcom girls that I just want them to always be happy.
📌 I received an e-arc, and this is my honest opinion/review of it.

“I don’t know about you, Doc, but I’ve never wanted anything that was easy, and I’m not going to start now. Easy’s not worth having.”
The third installment on the Mom Com series did not disappoint. If you didn't read the first two, no worries, you can definitely jump right in. But you do get much more context into the 17 some odd characters in this series if you do!
The series as a whole has done such a good job of showcasing the common nuisances that represent moms and motherhood, and I absolutely love it for that. Moms have never been clearer and more realistically represented in books.
“I’m going to have to disagree with you, Doc. It’s exactly what it looks like. And what it looks like is my goddamn fantasy just came to life, and it’s a hundred times better than I could have ever imagined it.”
Shayla is a widow and a single mom. Beyond being a physical therapist, worrying is her full-time hobby. She suffers from what I would say is extreme anxiety. Her son Kai and her 3 best friends and their kids are all so gracious with her shoving superfood smoothies at them and her obsessive compulsions in regards to her kid.
Rowan is an MLH player. He's definitely got an ego that he certainly deserves and a sorted past that's left him with some emotional baggage. When he pulls a muscle in his groin, Beckett takes it upon himself to offer up Shayla to help assess Rowans injuries. Because of course he did. 🤣🤣He is, once again, up to no good. I'm here for every single second of it.
"I think that smart mouth of yours just secured you a pink @$$. And don’t you dare even think about touching yourself or using one of your million toys in there until I’m home."
If you like: ❤️🔥Doctor/Patient ❤️🔥Bedroom toys ❤️🔥Possessive Alpha Male hockey star ❤️🔥Edging ❤️🔥Single mom ❤️🔥Friends with benefits ❤️🔥Reverse Age Gap ❤️🔥Sworn off love
This was my least favourite book of the series. I finished reading it a couple of days ago and I couldn’t even remember the name of the H, I had to look it up for this review 🤣
This book follows Shay and Rowen. Shay is a single mom to a 9 year old boy, Kai. And Rowen is a pro hockey player. They meet through Beckett Langfield (the H from book 1), at a hockey game. Beckett is the owner of the hockey team and when Rowen gets hurt at a game, he asks Shay, who is a physiotherapist, to go and help him. It’s insta-love/lust from there. They are both attracted to each other, but Rowen is very persistent about it. He convinces Shay to become his physio and go on away games with him and things take off from there.
I just didn’t really feel a connection between Shay and Rowen. Also, she really annoyed me. She was a health nut but took it an obsessive level, which I found really annoying.
Maybe if I had read this as a stand alone I would have liked it more, but in comparison to the other books it just wasn’t as good.
4.5⭐️ Mother Pucker is the third book in the MomCom series.
Tropes: 🏒Hockey romance 🏒Single mom 🏒Life after loss 🏒Reverse age gap 🏒He falls first
Rowan and Shayla were perfect for each other. Rowan was so swoony it was so adorable, he falls so hard for Shayla and Kai. It really was so nice to see how Shayla breaks down her walls and lets Rowan in.
I absolutely loved the whole family/friend group, all the chaos and banter with them all. Such a good time. Can’t wait for the next book.
Oh my goodness, oh my goodness! Let me tell you, diving into Pipsqueak's tale was like a rollercoaster of laughter and emotions! Rowan, oh Rowan, you stole my heart with your charm. But can we talk about the absolute highlight of the entire scene? Fin's little misadventure with the air humidifier had me in stitches! I mean, who knew peeing in an air humidifier could be so uproarious?
As I turned the pages, I found myself dancing between fits of laughter and teetering on the edge of tears. This book is a wild ride of emotions, blending the hilarious antics of the characters with moments that tug at your heartstrings. The sheer brilliance of weaving humor and emotion seamlessly throughout the narrative is nothing short of genius.
So, hats off to the author for creating a masterpiece that not only made me burst into laughter uncontrollably but also had me on the brink of shedding a tear or two. Pipsqueak's story is a delightful journey that tickles your funny bone and tugs at your heart, leaving you with an unforgettable mix of joy and sentiment. I can't recommend it enough for those seeking a perfect balance of laughter and emotional resonance in a book!
Guys get this book you will fall in love with every bits of these character. thank you author Swati M.H.
