Ombra Pack Chronicles #4

Eoin's Forbidden Mate

Rate this book
A straight-laced realtor from the big city runs face-first into a graffiti artist werewolf and sparks fly. Then their ambitions and secrets threaten to tear them apart.

Kent
I'm the new boy in this tiny town, but only until I find my clients the lake house they're searching for. Not that I can understand why anyone would want to live here. It seems like a place where nothing ever happens. So imagine my surprise when I stumble across a masked man spray painting a public building under the light of the full moon. Even in a mask, I'm struck by his beauty. Then, without warning, he approaches and does the last thing I ever expected. He kisses me. The moment our lips part, he's gone, vanished into the night and I'm left with a feeling of excitement unlike any I've ever experienced before.

But how do I find him again?

Eoin
The moment I kissed him I knew he was my mate. Even though I don't know his name, I know we were fated to be together, but I ran away before I could act on it. Then, by some strange twist of fate, he walks into my office the next day to hire me. He has no idea that I'm the masked graffiti artist or, more importantly, that I'm a werewolf. But now that he's my client, I have to pretend to be just some boring realtor.

However, when I find him waiting near the half-finished mural again, I can't keep my hands off of him. For now, though, the mask stays on. He's too straight-laced to turn a blind eye to my after-dark activities.

How long can I keep up this charade?

standalone, mistaken/hidden identity, hurt/comfort, class difference, human x werewolf, forbidden love, forced proximity, found family, strict roles, and hea.

TL;DR if you're looking for a romance between two assholes and want to watch them abuse each other, this is your book.

I read this book because I really liked the Author's other books (Shifter Grove books 1 and 2, which I do recommend) and I absolutely loved the description for this book - it's so romantic! Unfortunately, most of the description is misleading or not true. For example, Eoin's description begins with, "The moment I kissed him I knew he was my mate." That's a very interesting statement, because chapter 16 says, "I couldn’t believe it took me so long to realize he was my mate." I've watched a cycle of abuse that is decidedly anything but romantic. They're terrible people, and you can almost think they deserve each other, but I want to draw attention to the opening scene, in which, according to the description, "The moment our lips part, he's gone, vanished into the night..."

This is not AT ALL what happens. In fact, what happens is so long and intense that Eoin describes it as a BDSM SCENE. ONE IN WHICH THERE IS NO CONSENT.

"True, I’d antagonized him, and I fucking loved it. But it felt more like a role I was playing. He was the uptight businessman with a secret, and I was the bad-boy bully taking his control away. It was a scene straight out of a BDSM novel."

This was really upsetting for me, who had been attracted to a really sweet sounding romance. Instead I got this passage, which is absolutely not what I was looking for not what the description stated. From the perspective of Eoin:

“You’re so cock-crazy you can’t even think straight, can you sweetheart? I could sit here and call you every name in the book, and no matter how much you argued, if I let you, you’d service me until the sun came up.” I tilted my head to the side, furrowing my brows. “You got a thing for bad boys or something? Or do you just like being used?” “I… I…” he stammered, his face blushing in the dim lamplight. “I don’t know w-what you’re t-talking about.” He seemed suddenly embarrassed and defensive as his expression shifted to one of anger. “Fuck you!” “Fine,” I said with a click of my tongue. “If you’re gonna be rude about it, I won’t let you have your treat.” I tucked my dick back into my sweatpants with my eyes still fixed on him. A flash of longing and disappointment crossed his features, and I couldn’t help laughing again. Grabbing my backpack, I threw it over one shoulder and took a step forward. My bulge nudged against his lips, and I heard him gasp, but the irritation remained. I had him so worked up and confused that he didn’t know which way was up. And that, above all else, gave me life."

I will not be finishing the book, and I'm begging Mr Blake Wolfe to do better and take the description a little more seriously. I really love some of his other work, but this was actually upsetting for me to read and I wish I'd been properly warned what I was in for so I could avoid it.

BE WARNED. THIS ISNT THE ROMANCE IT CLAIMS TO BE.

Update: I finished the book and there's no apology for the way he treats his mate at their first encounter.

I’ve been lukewarm on the series so far and I’m kind of surprised I read this deep into it before giving up. I just can’t with this book. Both characters are terrible people and I really don’t want to have to deal with either.

🎧 Eoin=Owen is not how I would have said it in my head (if I’d eyeball read this book), a plus to audiobooks ☺️. The want for what’s right and just has been building in the series, this book took it outside the “pack” politics though and discussed marginalized communities being targets of politicians. It wasn’t super political, but the tone was present. The found family continues and the sense of home being a person is honestly my one of my favorite parts of this series (I know were lore says mates).

A great story for the

Eon is an artist and tagger along with a realtor in a small town. Kent a NY Realtor working towards getting a vacation home for a rich NY client in a small town. What he didn't expect is to be challenged by small town and a certain someone to break his walls down. The dynamics and forgiveness is a good message along with standing up for oneself - be true to you! MM romance

This story was alright but I was expecting more. The majority of the story happens in a time span of two weeks, so everything felt kind of rushed.

Kent was alright but I'm not sure what to think of Eoin. He was so different from his alter ego. Although his alter ego was kind of a prick, he at least sounded older and more mature. But when he was his "real self", as Eoin, he came off way too young and somewhat childlike.

This story really got to me!

It's very close to my life, not so much the childhood, but after graduating. Eoin and Kent went through a rough time but made it through together. The good, the bad, and then the HEA! ENJOY!

Solid 4 stars

This is the best book in the series so far, in my opinion. The self conflict Eoin has is very relatable. I found him to be a very intriguing character.

Eoin & Kent! What a wild ride!

Eoin, (cousin of Wyatt Book 2), and Kent have a crazy and fascinating romance, literally from the moment they met!

Their story is filled with so many twists that you'll go through every emotion until the very last page...and then you'll want more!!
