Sunshine always melts ice eventually. And I’m starting to feel the burn.
People may call me an “overachieving ice queen,” but I would do anything for the people I love.
So when my friends ask me to host an event at their famous farm, I’m more than happy to help…until I discover I’ve been set up.
The “event” is actually a reunion for my ex’s family.
I pushed away Sonny Luciano years ago when my parents gave me the cruelest possible ultimatum. I told him it was so he could pursue his NFL dreams, but I was terrified that he’d eventually learn what my parents learned: I’m unlovable.
But Sonny doesn’t act like I’m unlovable. He acts thrilled to be with me. And the way he lights up when he sees me with his loud, loving family eclipses the sun.
Sonny has grown in all the right ways, and our connection is electric enough to make me forget why I pushed him away in the first place.
But when we get stuck alone in a tent during a freak storm, I have to decide if I’m going to let him melt my heart or if I’ll freeze him out forever.

This second-chance romance is as sweet as it gets! Parker, the so-called ice queen, and Sonny, the ultimate charmer, make the cutest pair. The story was sweet, cute, and funny, and I loved getting to see things from both Parker's and Sonny's perspectives.
Even though I'm not usually into second-chance romances, this one was a pleasant surprise. The dynamic between the Janes is as supportive as ever, though this time, Sonny’s amazing family, especially Nonna, steals the show. Trust me, this is one book you’ll be glad you picked up!

SECOND CHANCE ROMANCE-it's magical.
This isn't my first book from this author, but she is relatively new to me and with this book (and her first that I read, Single All the Way) she is now solidly on my AUTO-BUY/MUST-READ list.
I LOVE THIS BOOK!
Basically, I loved everything about this book. And I mean everything. It's smart, snappy, entertaining, full of feeling, gives representation to lots of things, swoony and worth every second I spent reading...and the time I'll spend re-reading this one.
Sonny- adorable. He has his flaws and has such good intentions, but I felt like I could learn so much from his character.
Parker Jane (PJ)- my heart went out to her. She became real to me throughout this book and I think the world needs people like PJ.
This book is available now and I will be loving this one until the end of time!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Content: "While this is a lighthearted romcom, it contains themes of infertility, health disorders (vasovagal syncope), emotional abuse, perfectionism, anxiety, and panic attacks", light to mild innuendo, romance-kisses only.
Kate Watson has definitely claimed her spot as one of my auto buy authors because yet again she proved that she can balance heavy themes with the romcom style and pull it off flawlessly. Her books always take me on a rollercoaster of emotion and yet I know that by the end I will feel uplifted and hopeful.
I typically am not a fan of second chance romances, but this one definitely has a place in my heart. I absolutely adored watching Parker and Sonny together and seeing her walls fall down.
Sonny is truly sunshine personified but what I loved even more is his willingness to be humble and change for the better. I loved how much he just wanted to be with Parker but at the same time saw that she needed time to choose her own path.
I love that Parker was such a complex character. I loved that she was the grumpy to Sonny's Sunshine but that she was such an endearing character. You see why Parker is the way she is and everything she has had to overcome and also what is still dragging her down.
I loved the additional Luciano family from the quirky Nonna to the meddling sisters. This book just welcomes you with open arms and you want to stay in their world.
If you want a book where you will truly feel better at the end, where it shows that we are all flawed, but deserving of love, and of course the best tension and kissing scenes try this one asap!

“I know one thing to the depths of my soul: I am going to prove to PJ that my love isn’t conditional. And I’m never going to stop.”
Wow! I love books that blend poignancy with humor, and this one does it incredibly well. It was sweet, funny, romantic, and very moving. I loved it!
Parker (PJ) and Sonny met in college and fell fast and hard for each other. But she pushed Sonny away, telling him it was so he could pursue his NFL dreams, but in reality she feared that he’d eventually learn what her parents had convinced her was true: She’s unlovable.
7 years later, Parker’s friends ask her to host an event at their famous farm. She’s happy to help until she discovers the event is actually a reunion for Sonny’s family. She’s not thrilled about it, but she’s not one to back down from a challenge.
Sonny and Parker have never gotten over each other, and watching Parker’s walls crumble, and them getting their second chance with each other was just the sweetest! I really loved both these characters, and adored their bantering, flirting, and fabulous chemistry!
What I loved: Second chances Opposites attract Ice Queen FMC with soft heart The Janes Tummy waffles Nonna Forced proximity His family becomes her family Sweetness Ultimate Luciano Award The epilogue
This is book 3 in the Sweet as Sugar Maple series but can be read as a standalone. The whole series is fantastic, and one that I highly recommend.
*I received an e-arc from the author. Thank you for the opportunity to review! All thoughts are my own*
It’s Always Sonny is the third book in the Sweet as Sugar Maple series. Second chance romance? Sign me up! Kate Watson gained a fan after I read the first book in this series, and she continues to wow me with her books. I loved this one so much! This book could technically be read as a standalone, but I highly recommend starting at the beginning.
I love the friend group of the Janes so much! It was so great to get to know Parker Jane in this one. Knowing her history really helped me to understand her character. Sonny is such a sweet cinnamon roll, and I adore him! I love his family and how amazing and supportive they are of each other. The banter between PJ and Sonny is fantastic!
I don’t want to give anything away, so trust me, this book is wonderful! Highly recommend!
This was a definite 5 star read for me! Kate Watson has become an auto buy author for me so I was anticipating this book and it did not disappoint.
My heart went out to Parker who just wanted to be loved and had a desperate longing for parental approval cause her parents did a real number on her. And Sonny just wants to love her. I loved how their story unfolded and how Sonny was set to let her know that his love was unconditional ; she didn’t have to try and be perfect to earn it.
So many things I loved about this book including: - adult communication - Curly Girl Method and Cadbury mini eggs shout outs! - awesome therapy rep - amazing friend group - sweet and fun family dynamic (Nonna is awesome!)
I received an eARC of this book and with the amount of bookmarking and highlighting I did, I will be buying the paperback when it releases so I can have it in my hands to reread!
I am so loving these “Sweet as Sugar Maple” books! Each one has just sucked me in and I’ve loved getting to know ow the Janes and seeing them find love!! This second chance romance was absolutely perfect! I loved Sonny and Parker aka PJ so much! I felt so bad for Parker’s childhood trauma and how much of that she carried into adulthood, bless her heart!! Sonny was a freaking catch! He was so sweet and kind, so patient and loving to PJ and his “yummy waffles” didn’t hurt either! 😏
This book had me laughing, smirking, sighing, swooning, and all the other good things that make your heart happy!!
I sadly did not like Parker. Other things I did not like: the fight about capture the flag, the goat rescue scene, and many others. Just wasn’t for me.
It's Always Sonny is the third book in the Sweet as Sugar Maple series. While you'll see some familiar characters, I think it could definitely be enjoyed as a standalone, though you might have a better understanding of the friendship dynamic if read in order.
Kate Watson has very quickly become a favorite for me... and this book is the perfect example as to why. It's truly the perfect blend of beautiful, heartfelt moments with those that have me laughing out loud... and I am here for ALL of it! Sonny and Parker are both great characters that I found myself falling in love with more and more as the story went on. He's very much the sunshine in this pair and just such an enjoyable character to read about. His family was wild and crazy and had me laughing out loud throughout the story. They were meddlesome and loud, and I absolutely adored their brand of crazy. Sonny is more of a perfectionist who thinks she has to be great at everything. Her family is the complete opposite of Sonny's, leaving her feeling like she has to be perfect to be loved. I love how Sonny, his family and her friends all prove that idea wrong throughout the story. The growth from their first time around makes this a perfect second chance romance and one that I absolutely adored.
It's Always Sonny is a closed-door romance with amazing chemistry, but nothing beyond kisses. While it is a romcom and overall has a lighthearted vibe, it does address a few harder topics that could be triggering for some readers, to include emotional abuse and infertility.
**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.
Kate Watson has become an auto read author for me. This is the third book in the Sweet as Sugar Maple series. It can be read as a standalone book, but it's been fun to catch up with the gang as the books have progressed, especially with Louis! You also learn the friendship dynamic if you've read them in order. That is helpful.
This was Parker Jane's turn to find happiness. We've met Sonny in previous books as well. I just loved reading their story. Watching them work through their issues with eachother and with others was fun and sometimes heart wrenching.
I can't wait for the next book! This is a favorite series of mine for sure!
Thanks to the author for the advanced digital copy of this book. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
"He is the sunshine of my life. The light in the darkness. He's pulled me out of the abyss and his love has helped me realize that healing is possible and that wholeness trumps perfection every day of the week."
It's Always Sonny
Loved, loved this one! Favorite in the series so far! I loved that Parker was so feisty and brilliant and knew what she wanted in life. Even though she comes with some emotional trauma as a result of having terrible parents, she is so wonderful and learns to overcome the doubts she has of herself. Sonny is pure sunshine! I loved how he just goes after Parker. He is so sweet. And some of the things he says to her had me laughing and swooning a lot. They are just adorable together! And the ending to this one was sooo cute! Especially the part about Nona. No spoilers here! But I just love Nona! She is just so dear and probably my favorite character in this one. I love meddling families, especially Italian grandmothers. Favorite Parts: Second Chance, Nona, ropes course, His family is the literal best!, She saves him, hot tub, Bob!, Finding one's courage and self-worth Content Guide: Language: none-"sexy" used multiple times Romance Content: Closed-door/Not spicy: one tent scene where they strip down to their underwear for the purposes of saving his life from hypothermia, passionate kissing, mild innuendos Violence/gore: peril Other: Mild-cancer (mentioned briefly several times)Moderate: infertility and emotional distress that comes with that, panic attack/fainting (on page), toxic family relationship
I loved this book so much! I love Parker’s fire and how much I could relate to her! At about 21% of this book I started crying when I read that Parker has vasovagal syncope. Although this medical condition I have never really heard of anyone else having it. I was diagnosed with vasovagal syncope in 6th grade and although it has improved it definitely is tiring sometimes. It’s such a weird and sometimes confusing condition especially in the beginning when you’re unsure of all your triggers or when you discover new trigger. Reading about a main character that struggled with the same medical condition as me made me feel seen in a way I don’t even know how to explain!🥺 this book holds a special place in my heart😩 I absolutely fell in love with Sonny! He’s the sweetest and I love how he treats Parker and how over the moon he is about her🥰 he’s so caring towards her and understanding and it’s so sweet😩 I loved all the little metaphors in this book too haha I am absolutely a metaphor lover so I love finding new ones I can use! As a huge Gilmore Girls fan I LOVED all the references to the show! The Luciano family is so caring and supportive and I love it! I love how they welcomed Parker with open arms🥺 this book is so so amazing and I love it so much! Def one of my new favorites😍 also all the little sunshine and sunny references had me giggling.
“I am cool as ice, dang it. And Sonny just might melt me.”
There’s not much sweeter than a football player who is head-over-heels for his first love. Santino (Sonny) has the biggest heart and the largest sunshine personality ever, and I was half expecting Parker to be that grumpy gray cloud, but that definitely wasn’t the case. While Sonny is “the most charismatic, genuine, caring guy in any room and people flock to him,” Parker is an ice queen and does whatever she has to in order to protect herself.
Things to love: 🧇tummy waffles ☀️a large Italian family ☀️one tent, one sleeping bag ☀️h🔥t tub ☀️swoon galore ☀️spunky pistol of a grandma
This story is warm and sweet and full of all the touching things. I adored the characters, especially the unity this large family embraces and “The Janes” who are a found family friend group. There are sooo many moments, phrases, and situations that had me guffawing, and I couldn’t get enough.
⚠️tough parental situation/belittling; kissing

This series just keeps getting better and better!! Kate’s books are just mind-blowing good. I couldn’t wait for Sonny and Parker’s story! It was full of so much sunshine, feeling, family, love and laughter. All the “sweetness” you could ask for wrapped up in one cute story! This has become my favorite out of the series!
Sonny and Parker’s love story was unique and full of so much feeling and depth. They fell for each other hard in college, but she pushed him away, wanting him to pursue his NFL career, when actually she was afraid he would come to the same conclusion as her parents….thats she’s unlovable.
Fast forward 7 years to Sugar Maple Farms, where Parker’s friends ask her to host a four-day family reunion. The only thing she doesn’t know is the family belongs to none other than Sonny. Let’s just say, she’s not a happy camper on the start.
Sonny never got over Parker and how she made him feel. Being around her again makes him feel alive and free. And he’s determined to make these four days count, whatever it takes. Will these two finally get their second chance?
This story brought out the tears and all the emotions. Sonny was just wonderful. He was patient and loving with Parker. He was all the things. Parker was strong and determined, but also very vulnerable underneath. She just wanted to be truly loved and wanted.
Even though the physical attraction was definitely there, their emotional bond was so much stronger. I loved seeing Sonny slowly break down her walls and convince her that she was everything to him. She was so much more. She was lovable. It was just beautiful. Simple as that.
I loved Sonny’s wild and crazy family! The way to opened their hearts and arms to Parker and truly made her one of theirs was so sweet to watch.

This is the third book in the series, and it can be read as a stand alone. But to me, they are so much better read in order!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
What a fun story of family and friends and fighting for those you love. Sonny and Parker were so cute even when they were working through their differences. I loved their meet cute!! They are so fun together.
Parker was such a unique character and I was so interested to see how her character grew. Sonny was sunshine and the life of the party! The angst in this one was definitely front and center and lots of layers. There was so much to their relationship that they needed to work through, which is needed when it is a second chance romance and I was interested in how it worked out. But it did weigh it down a little for me. Sonny and Parker were great together and fought for each other even though they were trying to deny their feelings and work through so hard things. This one was definitely and emotional roller coaster, but in a great way. So much growth for both of them as the pieced themselves together to get their second chance. Loved the raw emotion.
I adored Sonny's family! They were wonderful, so fun and supportive. The sub plot of the family reunion and Parker's hand in planning it was a nice touch. I loved all the fun activities they did and how all the family struggles balanced out Parker's worries and struggles. The subplots fit in nicely to the character confessions and growth, I love how it all tied together. Watson really knows how to weave together a story.
Parker and Sonny's story was definitely worth the wait to listen on audio narrated by Stephanie Rose and Rock Engle! I loved their second chance small town, pro football player romance. Parker is one of those women who grew up being told she was never good enough and yearning for a true loving family - one like Sonny has. Thankfully she has her best friends the Janes and with their help and convincing from Sonny, the two find their way back to one another. I especially loved the great mental health rep (Parker has anxiety and panic attacks), the ending and the baby goat rescue scene!!
4⭐️ Fun, easy read about a second chance for two characters who never got over each other. The beginning felt kind of Stars Hollow cutout - it took a little time to get through descriptions that were based on references rather than descriptions that make the setting its own realistic place. Once the characters really showed up as people, they were interesting and self-aware. I really liked the relationships with Sonny’s family and how he and Parker used experiences with them now to reexamine their past through the lense of her family life growing up.
Thank you to the author for this ARC! All opinions are my own.
Parker (PJ) and Sonny are given a second chance at love.
PJ comes from a family where love is wasn’t freely given and expectations were high. Sonny came from a family where love was given no matter the circumstances.
With some meddling friends, PJ ends up working for Sonny’s family reunion. It’s there where they learned what went wrong the first time and how they both were able to grow.
This book is hilarious with cute farm animals and with meddling family and friends!
My favorite was: “If you try to be perfect, you’ll fail on your own. If you try to be whole, you just might succeed together.”
This book was given to me as an ARC for my honest review.
Oh I loved this one! What an absolute lovely story of healing & a second chance for the one you never stopped loving💛. Watching Parker be surrounded by a loving family and support was beautiful and heart melting🥰. So happy her & Sonny found their way back to each other!
This book was a sweet second chance romance. I always enjoy books with large, supportive, loving families. The author doesn't shy away from difficult topics and does a good job addressing them this book was about parents who withhold love and the effect that has on the fmc.
Such a great read. I feel like this book was very healing. As someone who can feel like you aren’t good enough if you’re not perfect, wow this is a book for you. Highly recommend!
4.5⭐️ I really liked this book! I think the first in the series is my favorite but they have all been so fun to read. It’s a cute and clean second chance romance with plenty of depth and a reverse grumpy x sunshine (is that a thing? I’m calling it that). I have like two teeny tiny complaints with the way things ended but overall it was super cute. I liked being in Parker’s head and seeing her grow. I just want to be an honorary Jane and live in Sugar Maple. ☺️
Update: After sitting on this for a while, I found myself still thinking and smiling about this book. Therefore, I had to up it to 4.5 🌟!!
First of all, thank you so much to Kate Watson for the advanced copy and the opportunity to read Sonny and PJ’s story! It's Always Sonny is a second chance romance that takes place years after Sonny and PJ have broken up. After a chance re-encounter, they end up in a bit of forced proximity situation, along with Sonny's family...like all his family...grandma, aunts, cousins, and all, which brings some extremely hilarious interactions and most certainly some very tender moments as well. If I could call "Sonny's family" one huge character, I would most definitely name them my favorite character. The banter and interactions were top tier and I found myself laughing and tearing up.
Sonny is just about one of the most lovable characters I've ever read and he perfectly compliments PJ's a bit rougher around the edges persona. Initially, I wasn't sure that I liked PJ, but the author did a great job of slowly letting you in (just like PJ did in the book!), and letting you see the why behind PJ's wall. You begin to really understand and enjoy her character as well. Kate Watson did an amazing job of making you fall in love with every single one of her characters, not even just Sonny and PJ.
I will say, the end got a bit over the top and silly, but I didn't even mind because I was just so happy of the outcome. I had not yet read the other two books in this series, but after finishing "It's Always Sonny," I will most certainly be running off to go read the others.
