Overall this was a good story, not the best from Kiera Andrews, who I adore. But, well, you can't win them all. The extra story is also in the version I bought, which would count as "The Chimera Affair #2"
I don't exactly know why, but this was slow going for me. My attention and focus was in an out in this one until around the last 4th of the book. Not that Sebastian and Kyle didn't have something, something I did enjoy, just that there wasn't enough of it, for me. I've read a lot better from Andrews with a lot better chemistry too.
I think (?) this is one of Andrew's earlier works and it's fairly short (although it took me a long time to read) but Sebastian and Kyle happen quickly, even though Kyle is "just pretending" as a part of his job. But even after that is revealed and these two are on the run together, they happen quickly. There wasn't a whole lot of connecting on an emotional level before they were going at it, and I didn't quite feel how they got to the love part by the end.
Although I felt it much more in the second short story added at the end when the main story is done. I loved their connection there.
There was some back and forth from Kyle that was a little annoying and the constant thought of "I can't do this, it's just a job, let him go and be done with it" was like...after the first two or so times of that thought I was like "bitch, really? You keep coming back together and you're still trying to convince yourself you can walk away?"
But the story does pick up at the and it it did get exciting in true Keira Andrews fashion, and the sex, while a little fast and kind "so-so" at first, got better as the book went on.
Most of the story is wrapped up, except for one bad guy who we don't get a resolution on. I guess we just assume they go after him as they continue their spy life?
Although this character is someone we never see and never meet so it was kinda hard for me to care, because I felt no shock or betrayal or much of anything because we don't get to know this character at all. But he's still a threat they have to deal with, that I guess we'll never get to see? That's a little annoying
But overall this is an enjoyable book, and these two were cute near the end and they did have a connection, even if it happened a little fast for my tastes.
