Austin Moore found his purpose in the military, but there was always something missing. He wanted what everyone in his family had…someone to call his own. But his life didn’t make it easy to find a soul mate, someone to be his forever.
Sage Hill enlisted to follow in the footsteps of her father, but never wanted to be in his shadow. And when her friend ditches her at a dive bar, she catches the eye of a handsome stranger. But Sage doesn’t have time for relationships, nor does she want the complication.
When Sage is stuck, Austin tries to be her saving grace and a challenge leads to a lip lock neither one of them can forget. She swore she’d never fall for a strong and bossy man like her father, but she soon learns there’s more than meets the eye underneath that sexy exterior.
Part of this book was previously released as the book Fearless. Much of the content has been changed and over 100 pages of new material has been added.
I don’t understand why authors ruin their own work by inserting unnecessary crap that has no relevance to the story and/or being inconsistent. This is what happened here. This could have easily been a 5 star read if author had not flip-flopped Hero’s personality so much mid through.
For one, it had 2 amazing MCs who oozed chemistry, sass & banter from start to finish and that isn’t easy to do. I loved that we had a sassy/kick-ass heroine and a marshmallow Alpha Hero who for the first half of the story seemed to be a good guy and a non-manho type. But then the author decided to flip his personality and give him a personality disorder towards the last half. The good guy we read on first half checked out, and the asshole instead checked in. Why I still don’t know. 🤦♀️
Anyway, Hero is a 29 year old Navy Seal who had a tough upbringing when he was a child. At age 17, he went to live with his older brother & his extended family in Florida and then years later became a Navy Seal. When he meets heroine, they have an instant attraction but become friends first before things turn romantic. The slow built romance development was awesome because they got to know each other and I loved their banter and flirting. Since he is a SEAL though and in a higher rank than her, them dating is against the rules and could jeopardize their careers, but that part is only briefly mentioned and then forgotten.
Heroine in turn is a 23 year old Navy newbie who has 2 “Dynasty” parents. Her Dad is a retired Navy General (or something) and her Mom a retired ex FBI agent who was a bad-ass and looks like a run-away model. The scenes with her overprotective & loving Dad in particular was so funny and sweet.
Anyway, the story is them meeting & developing feelings for one another. They are separated for 7 months due to their careers but still remain in touch. Then Hero gets hurt on his last mission and they become lovers which leads to HEA.
So the part that ruined the story for me is the first half we are shown a devoted, loyal non-Manho Hero, but then we get references here and there about his past. In chronological order, I am going to list them as follows:
- In the beginning, Hero tells heroine he got his nickname of “Han Solo” because a woman he dated for 6 months, and whom he thought things were not serious, followed him to his base where he was stationed and went crazy/loco on him. - Second reference to his past is his brother telling him that he falls in love with every woman he beds. This could have been in jest but Hero never denied it so to later on say he doesn’t give a shit about any of them? - Third scene was when he took heroine to meet his family and the following POV was mentioned:
Gigi, Tamara, and Lily were all close to my age, and I had been drawn to them to maintain any sense of normalcy. I’d had crushes on each of them at different times, but I was always more like their little brother in their eyes. “Austin,” Lily squealed, rushing toward me like hell on wheels. “God, you’re a sight for sore eyes.” I smiled and instantly opened my arms, waiting for the girl I’d had the craziest crush on when I was younger. We never would’ve worked and never had a chance to get going, but the feelings had been there. In a way, I still loved her, but I wasn’t in love with her. She would always be my family, as was every person near me now. “You’re looking good, Lil,” I said, feeling her round belly press into mine. “I see you’ve been busy again.” Jett, her husband, threw an arm around her shoulder and pulled her gingerly away from me. “I can’t keep my hands off her.” I wanted to gag. Don’t get me wrong, I liked the guy, but I’d always thought of Lily as mine. For that fact alone, no matter how great he was or how much she loved him, I still wasn’t all about Team Jett.
Gigi here is his sister-in-law and the other 2 are Gigi’s sisters I believe. I didn’t mind the crushes he had as he was 17 when he went to live with his brother and met them, but what annoyed me is his comment about Lily in the present when he was deep in with heroine by then. In my fictional romances, the word “MINE” has only one context – relating to heroine or his kid. Period. Non Stop.
- Then towards 95% or so, we get the following lovely quote:
My track record was nothing to be proud of. I’d never been in a relationship longer than a few months, and even then, I’d never given a shit about making the woman happy. I was in it for myself, and I didn’t take their feelings into consideration in the slightest, which was why I probably cheated more than I stayed faithful. I’d never been with someone as long as I’d been with Sage. But then again, we weren’t really together, together. We’d spent more time apart than we had with each other. It was the perfect type of relationship for someone who disliked commitment. But I knew this couldn’t last forever. At some point, we’d have to make a decision.
So now we have a Hero who is a cheater as he could never stay faithful in past relationships and is questioning whether he could stay faithful to heroine too. Lovely. And of course we have his family & friends mentioning here and there how much of a player he is/was. One assumes he stayed celibate during the 7 month separation since he was on a mission but if you have to question whether or not you can be faithful to heroine at that point when they were in deep, then that doesn’t bode well for a HEA.
Also, who finds it entertaining to read a grown ass man of 29 years old getting adopted by his brother’s in-laws? So yeah. I’m going to give this 3 stars for the first half only. The 2nd half can just go kick rocks.
“I laid down the challenge. I told you I’d put you on your ass. Now, if you don’t want to stop me, that’s fine. But I don’t do weak, and right now, it sounds like you’re being a pussy.” “I’m not being a pussy, darlin’. I’m being a gentleman.” “Pussy,” Walter coughed, diverting Sage’s attention away from me. She smiled, throwing her hand his way. “Even the big guy agrees with me. You’re making excuses. I don’t need you to be a gentleman. I’m tougher than I look, and no matter how much bigger you are than me or how wide your biceps are…” “You noticed my guns, huh?” “Kind of hard not to when they’re the size of most men’s thighs.” “I work hard at these.” “You done with the self-love, Han Solo?” ----- “Come on. It’s time for me to spank your ass.” “That shouldn’t sound so sexy,” I whispered. --- “You’re a quick little thing. Be careful, or you’re going to wear yourself out.” “I could do this all day. I may be a girl and a sailor, but I have more tools in my arsenal than most.” “I have no doubt.” “We’ll see who’s where when this is over.” “You’re so damn chatty for a dude. You really are scared of me.” “I am not. “Don’t mess up my mug. It’s my best asset.” “Debatable.” “What’s my best asset then, darlin’?” “What’s mine?” she threw back. “You’ve got a great ass.” “Typical,” she muttered. --- “If you want a date, you have to beat me. I don’t date weak men.” “Weak?” “So far, I haven’t seen much strength, but if you want a date, you have to earn it, buddy.” ---- “And based on what’s pressing against my leg, you’ve already had your sweet reward, Han Solo.” “If that’s the case, I’m not moving anytime soon,” I told her, “I’m really comfortable and enjoying myself.” “Old shoes are comfortable.” “Shh,” I whispered, shaking my head slowly and closing my eyes. “You’re ruining my moment.” “Arrogant,” she grunted, wiggling again underneath me. “Self-absorbed, cocky motherfu—” “They all mean the same thing, darlin’,” --- “You don’t need to check him out. I can tell you whatever you want to know. He’s only here a few more days.” “I do. The man has been to your place, had his hands around my neck, and didn’t seem right.” “Didn’t seem right?” “There’s something shifty about the way he was acting.” “Shifty?” I laughed. “What does that even mean, Dad?” “He couldn’t have left fast enough.” --- ‘I’m a father, Sage. Your father.” “You know you’re a weirdo, right? I mean, normal parents don’t do things like this.” “If they could, they would,” he argued. “Invite him to breakfast.” “What?” “Invite him to breakfast,” he repeated, his face expressionless. I blinked, confused. “Why?” “Because a background check only tells me so much, and since my daughter is seeing this man, I want to know him better.” “Dad,” I warned “I’ll invite him, but you need to behave.” “Don’t I always?” “You better be nice.” “I’ll be Mister frickin’ Rogers.” “Who?” I furrowed my brows. He pushed his fingers into his eyes. “I’ve failed as a father.” --- “For the record,” Austin added, “I wasn’t babysitting you.” I peered up. “You weren’t?” “I thought you were…” “A pain in the ass?” Dad said, laughing at his hilariousness. “Ha-ha.” “You were ballsy. You didn’t need my help, but I still wanted to be there. You were all piss and vinegar.” “It’s a trait she picked up from us. It’s genetic, I’m afraid.” Her Dad said. --- “Can I fuck you more than once?” “Yes, Austin, can you fuck more than once, or are you a one-and-done?” “There’s a guy out there who’s a one-and-done?” “I don’t know. I need answers. I want to know what I’m in for.” “You’re in for being very, very tired tomorrow and not being able to walk right, darlin’,” “I better fuckin’ be, or we’re going to have issues.” “Horny little tiger.” He chuckled. “Just make love to me and shut up,” I told him. “I love when you’re bossy and full of sass.” “Then hold on, baby—” I reached inside his pants, fisting his cock as the head peeked out of the opening “—’cause I’m taking the reins.” “You have thirty seconds to get your pants off, or I’m starting without you.” ---- “Queen in the streets, hooker in the sheets.” She nudged me again, laughing. “Don’t forget that.” “I swear to fuck, you should’ve been a dude.” “The world couldn’t handle all this if I had a dick between my legs.”
This book is just so good, so heartfelt and so sexy!!!! Pike's little brother is all grown up and he has his flirty side mastered. Sage is fearless and gutsy but she's not immune to Austin's charm. No one can be. He's just the perfect hero. I love how they meet. I love their Gallo weekend. I love them together despite having to be apart! I love all the emotions this story brought out! I love Austin and Sage! And Sage is right...We all want "what the Gallos have" This is such a great read!!!!
Dare by Chelle Bliss is book 14 in the Men of Inked: Heatwave Series. This is the story of Sage Hill and Austin Moore. Austin is Pike Moore younger brother. Pike and Gigi Gallo story was in the first book 'Flame'. Austin is in the Navy but is not as disciplined as he should be. Pike his brother was really the one to raise him after their mother's murder and their father going to jail. Sage is following in her father's footstep who was a Navy Seal but her mother was a FBI agent. So Sage has had a more focused family and career life. But when these two meet their is a instant attraction. Enjoyed their story.
I loved being able to go back to the Gallo world again and I loved Alex and Sage’s story. “Dare” is a flirty, emotional and fun addition to the Men of Inked: Heatwave series.
Sage has enlisted in the military to follow in her Dad’s footsteps. Before deployment, Sage meets Austin at a bar. Neither have time for a relationship due to Sage’s deployment and Austin being a Navy SEAL. But there is a spark there and as the two spend time together, a friendship is formed. And as time goes by, the friendship quickly evolves into something more.
From the first page, I loved Sage and Austin. Sage is smart, independent and a certified baddie. She’s not afraid to speak her mind and tell it how it is. But she’s also caring and that shines through with how close she is with her dad and how she interacts with Austin’s family. Austin is Pike’s younger brother and I have been waiting for him to finally get his own story. He had a rough time growing up but has thrived so much once the Gallos took him under their protective family’s wings. I loved how he took control of his own life and became a SEAL. Sage and Austin had great chemistry from the start, and I loved the slow build until they finally gave into it. And the added drama to one of Austin’s mission had me turning the pages to find out what happened. The ending was so sweet and I cannot wait to read more the Gallos and their close friends.
Austin Moore had a troubled childhood and when his mum was killed, he went to live with his brother and his wife's family. It is with the Gallo family that he grows and changes. Joining the navy, he becomes a seal! Usually stationed in California, Austin is based in Florida for some training. Out for a drink he meets Sage Hill and waits with her when her jeep breaks down. They become closer but their careers in the navy and the rules that come with rank, could make or break them. When Austin is hurt overseas, how will it affect their relationship? Will it allow them to admit how they feel or will it tear them apart? When this was released as a novella I adored the story but as a full book, it was just perfect. The chemistry between Austin and Sage is smoking hot. Their interactions are sweet and the banter hot. Having the Gallo family pop up made this read a little more like family! Chelle knows how to hook you in and keep you entertained. I can't wait for the next book she releases!
I’ve read every book in this series and loved them all. After meeting Austin in Pike n Gigis book I was ready for his story. This is Sage and Austin’s story.
The FMC, Sage is a military brat. Her father is an overprotective Navy Seal and her mother is an FBI agent. Sage has followed in her dad’s footsteps and is in the navy. One night while out with her friend, who deserted her, she meets Austin.
The MMC, Austin is a few years older than Sage and is a navy seal. Austin is Pikes brother and had his own issues growing up. His dad is in prison and his mother was murdered, so Pike took him in and raised him after.
Sage and Austin didn’t plan to fall for each other as both were not at the right place in life, however their hearts had other opinions and soon were all in.
This book has all the typical Gallo family antics. And Sage was a no nonsense gal. And their banter was soo good. Now add in the banter that at times had me laughing, and Dare is a great addition to the inked family. Can’t wait for the next generation. Thank you to Chelle and Valentine pr.
Would have been a 4 star, but all the sex scenes were skipped....what was with that. I found it very odd because in any other book of Chelle's I have read had great and very explicit sex scenes. In this book, it started then the chapter ended and the next chapter they were done.
Austin finally got his book and he grew up fine! Meeting Sage a little reminiscent of City and Suzy (my first Gallo love). Austin and Sage are both military. Their time apart is long and heartbreaking at times. When they are together they are fire! The Gallos are all present. Sunday dinners and group chats. Some tearful times, sad and then big ugly happy tears. I loved this book.
Austin and Sage met by chance, but their chemistry is off the charts. Great story with twists and turns throughout. Another riveting story from Chelle!!! Loved it
This story had me hooked from the first chapter and I absolutely loved being back in the Gallo world❣️A not to be missed addition of the series with all the usual Gallo family antics, that will make you laugh, cry and have you wanting to join this amazing family.
Austin, is the younger brother of Pike who is married to Gigi. He is now a military man and a chance meeting at a biker bar ensnares Austin with Sage and starts a love story for the ages… Sage is determined to follow the plan she’s set out for herself, but upon meeting Austin slowly discovers someone worth changing her plans for🥰
I received an advanced copy and willingly leave a honest review❤️
Written in dual first-person POV, Dare by Chelle Bliss explores the forbidden romance between Austin Moore and Sage Hill, who discover that falling in love may require taking risks, opening your heart, and stepping outside your comfort zone. Austin’s life hasn’t been easy. While he’d found a purpose in the Navy, there’s always been something missing from his life. Being around his family has brought that truth home more than ever. He longs to have someone to call his own like everyone in his family has. And it won’t be easy for him to find a woman to be his forever, his soulmate.
Sage admires her father, and following in his footsteps may be one of the things that inspired her to enlist. But living in his shadow is something she doesn’t want her life to be about. Focused on her career in the Navy, Sage doesn’t have time for relationships or the distraction that men would bring to her life. Catching the eye of a handsome stranger at a dive bar after her friend ditches her is a complication Sage doesn’t need. So, she shuts him down when he tries to get to know her.
However, when Sage runs into trouble, that stranger, Austin, tries to help her despite her resistance to letting him. Then Austin and Sage share a kiss that stays on their minds after a challenge. After swearing she won’t fall for a man like her father, she can’t believe how drawn she is to Austin. He’s bossy and strong and like her father in other ways. But after she and Austin spend time together, she begins to see the man beneath the sexy player façade. And it becomes harder to resist the desire and connection forming between them.
Bliss develops and evolves Austin and Sage’s relationship through funny, sexy, emotional, snarky banter and intimate interactions that reveal their characters. I love that Sage and Austin take the time to get to know each other by talking and spending time together.
Although the novel can be read alone, Austin’s family, the Gallos, are vital to his life and the story, so reading the other books first is helpful to be familiar with the other characters. The Gallo family and their interactions with each other and Austin and Sage are fascinating. Those scenes make you curious enough to check into past books in the series.
Sexy, funny, and emotional, with a bit of suspense, Dare is a slightly steamy—but primarily closed-door—contemporary romance about family, belonging, longing for soulmates, finding your soulmate, doing what you love, and taking risks. I recommend this quick read for fans of the series, family-centered romances, forbidden romances, reformed players/bad boys, military romances, and belonging.
An advanced review copy was provided by the author for review.
Dare is yet another charmer in the world of Gallo. This time around, Chelle Bliss finally (!) gives us Austin Moore's story, the somewhat belligerent younger brother of Pike who has now found his footing as a Navy SEAL. He's grown up quite well and when he happens upon the very feisty Sage Hill at a bar near her Navy base in Florida, let's just say those fireworks are beyond explosive when it comes to these two. Sage does everything she can to dissuade the seemingly cocky Austin but when a bit of car trouble has her somewhat now stranded, these two trade witty barbs as they find a surprise rhythm they quite enjoy while learning more about the other.
I love these two together. Sage is a firecracker all her own yet she can't help but fall a bit for Austin's self-assured attitude which seems to compliment her independent nature just fine. Although their time is limited together as Austin has to go back to California with his crew and Sage is just starting out in her own military career and will be deployed soon enough, they somehow find time to feel each other out so to speak, sparking what should become more even if their lives are going in completely different directions. Add to that a chance to meet all the crazy Gallos during a whirlwind weekend and you've got the making of one great love story!
Bliss did a wonderful job in making this book a perfect combo of insta-lust with a unique kind of connection only two military people would understand. And despite all the uneven scheduling with their assignments and the like, I could tell they wouldn't let miles and months away from one another sever what they both felt.
We get to visit with well-loved characters like Suzy, Joe, Pike and Gigi. Not to mention Grandma Gallo, Aunt Fran and the rest of this incredible family as that afore-mentioned weekend solidifies Sage and Austin as a real couple in everyone's eyes. I loved all the knowing smiles as Austin seemingly lays claim to his Darlin' even if he and Sage were in some kind of denial. But thankfully, Bliss doesn't let us nor her couple wait too long to realize they were clearly meant to be.
I'm kind of sad that this is the last book (say it isn't so!!) featuring the 2nd generation of Florida Gallos. I have devoured each and every romance I've had the pleasure of reading and felt the love with each new book Chelle Bliss wrote about this extraordinary crew of misfits and crazies. I'm just glad we still have the Chicago branch of this extended family to get lost in since I don't think I'm ready for a reading life without a Gallo to adore.
Dare Men of Inked: Heatwave, Book 14 By: Chelle Bliss Narrated by: Connor Crais, Samantha Brentmoor
Chelle Bliss’ Gallo world is one of my favorite places to visit and spend time in, and when she comes out with a new book, I know I am in for a treat. This series features characters that are the second generation of the original “Men of Inked” series and they are just as amazing, and as a bonus we get cameos of the original characters too. Family is everything to the Gallos, and their family is ever growing because when they accept you in you become one of their own. And that is how it was for Austin Moore, who is Pike’s younger brother. Pike and Gigi Gallo’s story was the first two “Heatwave” books, “Flame” and “Burn”. Austin was a troubled kid, got into things he shouldn’t have, but he got his act together and straightened up when taken under the Gallo wings, even following his footsteps to serve in the Navy. Sage Hill may have enlisted in the Navy to follow her father’s footsteps, but as a strong will and minded female, she is making her own path. While out with one of her fellow sailers she meets up with Austin, she was not giving him the time of day, or night, but he still looked out for her, despite her not needing to be looked out for. Neither one wanted to get involved in a relationship, but they just clicked and just went with the flow. They had a lot more in common than they first thought, but their time together was short because she was deploying and he was going back to the west coast. The timing was not right when they first met, but the chemistry was there and was it enough for them to wait for when the time was right? This captivating and wonderfully written and plotted story has the perfect balance of drama, Gallo family charm, heartfelt emotions and steamy romance. Chelle Bliss, thank you for another amazing story and emotional rollercoaster ride.
🎧📚🎧 Connor Crais and Samantha Brentmoor continue to do an amazing job portraying these characters, humanizing them with their personalities, grasping all of their emotions and have you feeling them all. I loved how they took each role and made it their own, sounding believable and just as I imagined the characters would sound. They handle the banter and witty dialogue with ease, landing the humor naturally and with ease. These entertaining storytellers are a pleasure to listen to and their narration elevates this already fabulous story to another level. Thank you for another excellent listen.
Dare is book #14 in Men of Inked: Heatwave Series. It’s been no secret I have wanted to be an honorary member of the Gallo’s for a while now. This is Sage Hill and Austin Moore’s story.
Austin’s brother Pike has his own story in Book 1, Flame and he is married to Gigi Gallo. This makes Austin a member of the Gallo’s. Sage grew up with her father in the military. Her father is a retired Navy SEAL, and her mother works for the FBI. Sage is now done with college and officer training, and she is working on being a Quartermaster. Austin is an active S.E.A.L.
Her best friend is “Blondie” a male and he ditched her at a “biker bar” for some …. This is where she meets Austin.
I loved reading Austin’s and Sage’s story! But that is pretty much a given for me! I have loved this series from the very beginning and the original start of Men of Inked series. They are must reads!
Although, you can read each of these books as standalones each with their own HEA. I just love knowing the history of each of these family members. I have not wanted to get to the end of this series but now that I know…..
OMG! A new spinoff is coming, Men of Inked Sinners. Crave is the first book and I can’t wait to start it! Dare is a 5 STAR read for me and did I say I was looking forward to reading and starting the new spin off!!! Well, I am!!!
Now for your information and mine in keeping track of who’s who. There is a family tree at the end of the book. But here is a listing of books and who’s story it is.
Men of Inked®: Heatwave Series:
• Book 1 - Flame - Gigi Gallo and Pike Moore • Book 2 - Burn - Continuation - Gigi Gallo and Pike Moore • Book 3 - Wildfire - Tamara Gallo and JD “Mammoth” Saint • Book 4 - Blaze - Lily Gallo and Jet Michaels • Book 5 - Ignite - Continuation - Tamara Gallo and JD “Mammoth” Saint • Book 6 - Spark - Nick Gallo and Josephine “Jo” Carmichael • Book 7 - Ember - Rocco Caldo and Rebel Bishop • Book 8 - Singe - Carmello Caldo and Arlo King • Book 9 - Ashes - Rosie Gallo and Dylan Walsh • Book 10 - Scorch - Luna Gallo and Nevin Walsh • Book 11 - Torch -Trace Caldo and Ana Kelly • Book 12 - Inferno - Stone Gallo and Opal • Book 13 - Cinder - Asher Gallo and Olive Thornbury • Book 14 -- Dare - Sage Hill and Austin Moore
She and Austin's story was full of banter, charm, antics, and instalust. I have not read any other book on this series, so I was a little lost on some of the characters and the Gallo's family. It didn't make any of it bad, I just wished I'd read a few before before this. Not that it's needed. It just would have helped.
Sage has a plan for her life and is determined to follow it. She grew up with an overprotective father who was Navy Seal and a mother who works for the FBI. She is a fiesty pistol and doesn't have time for nonsense. Even though she followed her father's footsteps and enlisted in the Navy, she had no plans to date anyone like her dad. So when her friend "Blondie" leaves her outside a biker bar in FL, the last thing she's expecting is to meet Austin.
Austin is a charmer with a deep interior. He's been through a lot in his life. Raised by his brother Pike (his story was another book) after his father was sent to prison and his mother was murdered. He had a lot of issues from growing up. He is a few years older than Sage and a Navy Seal.
From the moment these two meet, the banter between them is great. Sage is fiesty, and Austin's banter right back at her had me at times smiling. He is the calm to her fire 🔥 Even though these two are not in the right places in their lives for a relationship. It doesn't stop them from the lust that burns. They only have a short time together in FL before Austin is due back in CA. That doesn't stop them from talking and slowly falling for each other. No matter how hard Sage tries not to let that happen. Austin lays a claim on Sage, and she slowly starts to change her plans for him. I think the more time they spent apart, the more their hearts wanted each other.
Now, the Gallo family is one that had me laughing at certain parts in this book. Although I don't know the stories behind these characters, it didn't make the banter and antics any less fun to read about. I really enjoyed that family and wished I could be part of them. Austin and Sage's relationship was one I really enjoyed reading about. They went from instalust to love throughout this book. I would recommend reading this book, but maybe read the other ones in the series first of you haven't.
I read this as an Advance Readers Copy, and this is my honest opinion of this book.
Unfortunately this is the last book of this series and where I have enjoyed everyone of the second generation series I knew that we would eventually run out of siblings to have this series continue. I will admit that where I enjoyed this addition to the series I did have mixed feelings about this book.
In this addition to the series we get Austin's story who where he is not really a Gallo, he is Pike's younger brother that we met wayyyy back in the beginning of the series but did not have many appearances in the rest of the series. His story was also previously released before and this addition was just added to.
So back to Austin's story. He has a chance meeting with Sage, a newly minted Navy shore woman. He comes to her rescue in a seedy bar when her Jeep wouldn't start. After giving her a challenge she could not walk away from, Austin finds himself introducing her to his family and possibly wanting more, but can he?
Sage, new to the Navy and not sure what to expect but waiting to start her life feels that she has to make up for past mistakes in her life. She meets Austin but despite not wanting to give into the pull she has to him finds that he is all that she thinks about. Add some forbidden to their feelings for each other the pair can not get together due to rules of the Navy regarding rank differences. Despite the differences between the pair, can they make a go of things??
So on to the opinions of this review. Where this was a well written book, I think that there were some things that could have been either expanded on or just left out. Where family has also been a large part of the Gallo series, I think that Sage's parent's role - either that he dad was a Navy Seal or that her mom was an FBI agent, could have been left out or her relationships with their careers could have been expanded. I will admit that it all together could have been left out. Also, her 'best friends' for being important to her were barely mentioned more than introductions. I also spent a lot of time at first thinking that I had already read their story before I found out that it was an expanded previously released story. In the end where I enjoyed the story, I think that it also did not need to be added to the series or expanded.
Overall this was a great read that I would recommend to others.
Dare is the next installment in the Men of Inked: Heatwave series and it takes us back to the world of the Gallo's, which is always such a fantastic place to be.
Austin Moore, who is the younger brother of Pike, who is married to Gigi Gallo, has found his place as a Navy SEAL. While he's not able to talk about the missions he goes on or what his job entails, he's typically gone for a few days and then comes back to town before heading out again.
Sage Hill has recently enlisted in the Navy and has followed in the footsteps of her Dad, who was also in the armed forces. She is set to be deployed soon and she just wants to enjoy herself with her friend before she heads out, however her friend ends up ditching her, leaving her drinking alone at the bar.
Austin sees Sage is now alone at the bar, and he approaches her and the two engage in a lively conversation, which showcases the chemistry that is hard to deny. As Sage does everything she can to deflect the attention, she finally decides it's time to leave. When she does, she ends up having car trouble and now it's Austin's turn to come to her rescue. The two trade some pretty witty lines as they wait for help.
Given their situations, they know that while they have mad chemistry, their time together is limited. Austin has to go visit his family, so he invites Sage along for the weekend. We get our fill of the Gallo's, which is always amazing. Then we are treated to how their relationship evolves as they are stationed in two very different locations and how that affects their connection and their relationship.
Dare was a heartfelt and emotional story and it was a wonderful way to end the Men of Inked: Heatwave series. I'm very glad to already know there are more books coming our way though! I'm definitely not ready to leave our Men of Inked world!
**I voluntarily read an early copy of this title in exchange for an honest review**
There's a great possibility I've already read this one. I'm having major deja vu... 😕 This is the end of the series.
Austin Moore and Sage Hill, who discover that falling in love may require taking risks, opening your heart, and stepping outside your comfort zone.
After swearing, she won’t fall for a man like her father. She can’t believe how drawn she is to Austin. He’s bossy and strong and like her father in other ways. But after she and Austin spend time together, she begins to see the man beneath the sexy player façade. And it becomes harder to resist the desire and connection forming between them.
Bliss develops and evolves Austin and Sage’s relationship through funny, sexy, emotional, snarky banter, and intimate interactions that reveal their characters. I love that Sage and Austin take the time to get to know each other by talking and spending time together.
Sage Hill is an enlisted member in the Navy, she has followed in her parents footsteps of joining the military. Sage is getting ready for a deployment, where she will be gone for the next half a year to a year. She's not looking for a one night stand or for a long term relationship.
Austin Moore, is Pike's younger brother we met back in Burn, book #2, in the Men of Inked: Heatwave series. Pike is married to Gigi Gallo, daughter of Joe Gallo. Austin joined the military and is now a Navy Seal. He isn't allowed to talk about his missions/what he does for the military. He usually is gone a few days then back in town. Everything they do mission wise is usually a secret of what they do.
Sage & Austin meet one night at a local dive bar, where she is at with a guy friend - Blondie - who leaves her instantly to go find some willing girl. When Sage tries to leave her jeep won't start. Austin follows her outside knowing the crowd that is usually in the bar and outside of it. He makes sure she gets home safely, and helps take care of her jeep.Sage isn't one who admits she needs help, she was raised to be very independent, and not rely on anyone except herself.
Once Sage & Austin get to know each other, Sage realizes that she can trust him, he is actually a good guy. When Sage is on her deployment they write to each other finding out things about each other long distance. When she gets back from her 7 month deployment, all she wants is to be with Austin, she realizes that she is in love with him.
Will Austin the happy bachelor feel the same way? Will Austin be able to settle down and not go through women any longer?
I did receive a free ARC Copy of this book. I am freely leaving an honest review.
Dare (Men of Inked: Heatwave #14), is Austin & Sage’ story! Austin Moore is Pike’s little brother, but these days he’s no longer little… There’s echos of Suzy and City when Sage and Austin meet at a biker bar and she has car trouble, and we know how that turned out for them!! Anyway, this story felt special, it had all the things we love in a Chelle Bliss book but it also conveys a reverence for the military, their families and the sacrifices they endure.
These days Austin is in the Navy, and when he meets Sage he knows she’s military too. There’s a toughness underneath all her feminine charms that he recognises. You know there is something special in store for these two when no man has ever left Sage feeling off kilter before and Austin’s never had to try this hard with a woman before. These two can only ever be friends (there’s rules in the military about everything, including relationships and dating outside your rank could quickly and easily kill his career) and they decide they’ll just enjoy their limited time together before they’re sucked back into their upcoming deployments. Pike needs to visit his family and he invites Sage to tag along for a weekend of some good home cooked food and some tattoos. So they take a trip to see the Gallo’s - that big, nosey, over-the-top, loving Italian family that never disappoints!!!
These two come from two very different worlds but find themselves in the same place at the same time living the same life. They’re keeping their distance, careful not to cross anymore lines than they already have. They know that nothing can come of this but they’re not ready to say goodbye either…
Dare Men of Inked: Heatwave, Book 14 By: Chelle Bliss Narrated by: Connor Crais, Samantha Brentmoor
Any time I can visit the Gallos, I am a happy camper. Chelle Bliss wrote an amazing military romance that stole my heart. Austin is a Navy seal through and through. It's his calling, but when he is home and with his "family", the Gallos, he feels that there is something missing. When he meets Sage, he knows in his heart it may be her that he is missing. Sage enlisted in the Navy like her father and is proving to be the independent woman she was taught to be. Knowing Austin was going to be deployed as is she, there was no way she was going to give her heart to him. The two are friends, as good of friends as they can be. As time goes on though, feelings grow and directions change. How does that effect these two? Well, you will have to give this gem a listen to find out. All I can say is I would love to be one of the many at that Italian Sunday meal at the Gallos. I feel the love and happiness that the family has for one another, and every book just builds on that wonderful feeling. This is one of my favorites of the series and I can't wait to see who is next!
Samantha Brentmoor and Connor Crais. I don't need to say any more than that to let you know it is a book that should be one clicked. This team is magic with whatever book they narrate and this one is no exception. Brentmoor is the stubborn, vulnerable Sage with all the attitude and a huge heart full of love. Austin is lovable from the start, and Crais creates that warmth around him, whether friends or lovers, his feelings are on his sleeve. This is an amazing listen.
I was hooked to the storyline from the very first page, I haven't read any Navy romance books before, so this was very interesting to read and just utterly amazing.
Sage is definitely a woman who needs no man's help after being raised by two extraordinary parents, and she follows in her father's footsteps and enlists into the Navy. While out at a biker club, she meets Austin, who happens to be a Seal and is in town for a couple of days. Things don't exactly hit it off between them instantly, but after Sage's car refuses to start, they get talking and friendly with one another.
I loved that the plot centralised around the Navy and watching Sage and Austin communicate with one another and just see where everything would take them. They definitely did not dive right into a relationship but took it slow due to being stationed in two different places. I like to think that it was love at first sight for them as they quickly developed feelings even when they were unaware of it.
I absolutely love Austin's family so much that they were such a joy to see and read about even if I didn't know their individual stories. Austin and Sage could not have been paired more well to each other and even though I wasn't aware that this book was a closed door romance I still loved it so much as the plot and characters made up for that so well.
Dare was brilliantly written with the perfect amount of angst, and the timeline was just perfect for their story, I did get a little sad at some parts, but that only shows how good this book was.
𝐃𝐚𝐫𝐞 is the 14th book in the Men of Inked: Heatwave Series by Chelle Bliss, featuring Austin and Sage. Sage enlisted in the Navy to follow in her father’s footsteps. Facing a long deployment, she hit up a bar with a friend. When that friend ditches her Sage is rescued by Austin Moore, the honorary Gallo fans met in Gigi and Pike’s story. A powerful chemistry and deeper connection seems to bind the two right away, but with both of them being in the military, there are definite obstacles between them. With distance and dangerous jobs to contend with, will they find a way to be together?
Austin Moore grew up FINE, and I am here for it!!😍 For a kid that suffered through the traumatic childhood he did, it’s a miracle he turned out to be a heroic Navy SEAL full of honor and integrity who would treat a woman like a queen the way he did Sage!! He made me swoon and blush— respectful and romantic when needed, then when it was time to bring the heat, the fire raged!! I loved that Sage was such a strong character as well, and the scenes with her father warmed my heart and made me laugh. And then there were the Gallos… One of my favorite fictional families! They are hilarious, loud, supportive, loving, and always ready to accept someone new to the family. There were twists, drama, and action in this one that I wasn’t expecting. I teared up in worry at one point, then in happiness later. I just love these characters, and I look forward to the next spin-off for another branch of the Gallos!!
I received an ARC for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.
I always love when we get to dive back into the Gallo world. This one is the story of Austin and Sage. Sage is a girl who has always had a plan to follow in her fathers footsteps. Since he was in the military, that is exactly what she is going to do. Before she is about to be deployed, she is in a bar when she first lays eyes on the hottest Navy Seal she has ever seen. Austin is a busy man and since she is being deployed, neither of them have time for a relationship. They both know it but make the effort to stay in contact because that night some serious sparks were flying. You will know who Austin is if you have been reading this series. He is Pike's younger brother. What a great family, The Gallos, he has as well as Sage who is super close to her father and adores him. She is also really smart, independent and determined. But most of all she has this bad butt side to her that I just absolutely loved. Austin was not a man that came from a happy childhood until the Gallo's took him in. Then his life changed for the better. He flourished with such a protective family but also took control of his life and worked his butt off to become a Navy Seal. This is a slow burn romance and there is just no way possible that you won't fall in love with Austin and Sage. They are two amazing characters and they have a story to tell that you will devour. I loved it and have no doubt you will too.
I really, really loved Austin and Sage’s story! Austin is Pike’s younger brother who had a rough time as a kid seeing his mother get shot. After moving down to Florida with Pike, he found a new family who took him in (the Gallo’s), but he still feels like he needs to give back and joined the military. Now a Navy Seal, he has to go on dangerous missions putting his life in danger frequently. One night while back in Florida, he meets Sage who is new to the Navy and enlisted as opposed to coming in as an officer. Her father is a retired Navy Seal and her mother was a FBI field agent, so she knows how to take care of herself. Even though they aren’t technically allowed to be together due to their stations, they start a friendship. She goes to visit his family for the weekend and their feelings continue to blossom.
When their time is up, she has to ship out for 7 months and he has to return to California… but they keep in touch. When she returns, they cant stop their feelings for each other… until he gets sent out on another dangerous mission that goes sideways. She has to make sure that she can be strong for not only herself but for him as well.
Loved this story and I loved how the Gallo’s just immediately took Sage as one of their own through everything. And what happened with Austin and Joe/Suzy? Absolutely AMAZING!
This whole series is a MUST READ, and I wholeheartedly recommend reading every book – especially this one!
I received a free copy of this book via the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Well, Chelle Bliss has done it again. DARE book #4 in her Men of Inked: Heatwave series, was yet another entertaining and heartfelt read. This is the final book in this series, but don't fret, there are more Gallos on the way.
Austin Moore is the younger brother of Pike who is married to Gigi, Joe's daughter. So, by proxy, Austin is a Gallo family member too. We first met Austin as a troubled teenager, now he's twenty-nine and a Navy SEAL. Sage Hill is the daughter of a former Navy Seal and a former FBI Agent. She's also in the military, following in her father's footsteps. While Austin is still a bit of a wild-child, Sage is more focused on what she wants in life. One thing neither of them are looking for is a relationship.
I loved everything about DARE. Austin and Sage's first meeting was humourous, Austin laying the charm on, and what girl in her right mind could resist that charm? Sage is independent, has plenty of smarts, is a real bada$$, and can easily challenge Austin with her straightforward talking. I loved their banter, humour, and definitely their steam. Of course, there's some drama to add some tension, and a truly beautiful moment that had my eyes watering.
DARE was another wonderful read and a terrific addition to this series, packed with plenty of friendship, family, and so many emotions.
Chelle Bliss brings the feels and the Florida branch of the Gallos back together for one last story featuring Pike's brother Austin. A navy SEAL. Who meets enlisted sailor Sage on a night out at a dive bar. When she is ditched by her friend and her car breaks down. Austin is more than willing to step in and help her.
Only Sage Hill is not a woman who needs helping after all her dad is a former SEAL and her mum an FBI Agent. So it's fair to say she puts the bad in badass.
Yet, there's something about Austin that draws her in even if she swears on her dads life she's not interested and has no time for men or the inconvenience they bring.
Plus, she knows Austin is only visiting for a few days before heading back to California and then who knows where.
But Austin is charm personified and a friendship soon ensues. One that has him taking Sage home to the Gallos and everything that big boisterous loving family has to offer.
Yet, when you meet the one, all bets are off and time, distance, danger and the navy are no match for this honorary Gallo.
And with lots of family feels, sexy banter and a little action. Dare was a great read that I devoured and for anyone who loves this big boisterous family. Dare is a must read if only for the moment towards the end with Joe and Suzy.
I would happily recommend Dare to all.
My thanks to Chelle Bliss and Valentine PR for the opportunity to read an early copy of Dare. 😊
This is book 14, and the last book, in this spin off of the Men of Inked series.
I have been impatiently waiting for Pike's little brothers story and it doesn't disappoint! Austin has grown up and is a Navy SEAL now. He has grown up into this stand up man and I adored him! Sage is snarky and awesome! They have this connection right from the start, even if neither really wants to admit it. I loved how their story played out. I loved seeing my favorite characters not only from the Heatwave books but from the other Men of Inked books as well. Because, I mean, who doesn't love City!! I am a little sad that it's technically the end, but I know there will be more books coming!
Sage Hill is 23 and following in her Dad's footsteps enlisting in the Navy. She has been raised to defend herself by her parents with her dad being a former SEAL and mom an FBI agent. When she goes to a biker bar with her buddy she meets Austin and they jab at each other. She thinks he's cocky and arrogant. He thinks she needs help.
Austin Moore is 29 and a Navy SEAL. He's in Florida for a couple days and hits up the biker bar where he meets Sage. When her car won't start he stays until her ride comes. She tells him she's not one that needs help.
He left and went back to Cali but they kept in touch. Sage went on deployment for seven months and when she comes back he is there. They swear it's a friendship only relationship. While in town he goes to see his family, the Gallos and takes Sage with him. They are a big, loving family that took him in and who his brother has married into. They loved Sage!
They continue to stay in contact and their friendship changes into something else. But they have to learn how to balance their relationship, distance, military career with his being a SEAL. Can they find a way to work it out?
4.5 stars I loved the Gallo family! The bantering between not just Sage and Austin but others just added to the story.
