Javi & Blake: Back in Time

Saving Blake . . .
This starts out as a regular story until action is required in a unique way to change the dire outcome for these two characters. Javi Hernandez is a straightforward worker who keeps his emotions hidden and focuses solely on business. His total opposite, Blake Crane, is a smiling, energetic optimist who enjoys life and doesn’t take things too seriously. Yet their differences seem to draw Javi to him. Unfortunately, Blake already has someone and is not available.
To Javi’s surprise, however, Blake arrived at Javi’s door one night, having broken up with his ex and needing a new start. It doesn’t take long for the two of them to recognize how they feel about each other. Then suddenly, an accident threatens to take it all away from them as Blake’s life is put in serious jeopardy. Blake had an argument with Javi about a perceived betrayal of confidence, and he ran into the street, not paying attention. The speeding car’s driver was also not paying attention as he laughed at whoever he was on the phone with. The car struck Blake and threw him onto the concrete sidewalk headfirst. His leg was obviously broken, and no doubt he has a head injury. Then the car that hit him drove away. He is rushed into surgery as his friends wait to find out if he will be okay. He made it through surgery but was now in a coma as they waited day after day. There is only one thing to be done now. If Javi can call on the power of a magical crystal necklace, he must time travel into the past to change the outcome and save Blake. Is it possible? Can he do what needs to be done? Will Blake recover? Can they still have a future together and that new start that Blake had wanted?

“Your hole is a bottomless pit so it’s not like you’d feel anything anyway.”
“You’re like obsessed with my hole.”
I loved this book. I was not expecting that level of banter between Blake and Javi. Some of the back and forth between these two had me cackling!
“How could you forget The Wizard of Oz?” I asked Lupe. “The part where you melt is my favorite.”
This seems like a normal enough story that the time traveling aspect of it would have been a complete surprise if I hadn't expected it from the book summary. And I loved that it was there! This story had everything- humor, love, fear, and growth. Wonderful supporting characters. It was a beautiful story that had me crying for different reasons throughout. This is the first book I've read by this author and I will be reading more! 5 stars.

Going back in time to save a relationship that has been taken away is a tempting prospect. Even with a few glitches, you get to witness your past and future life. Javi is given this opportunity after the love of his life, Blake, is severely injured in an accident. Javi and Blake are best friends and colleagues, and they are about to become lovers. After years of knowing each other, Javi realizes that he messed up their relationship when they were allowed to pursue it. Blake has some secrets from his past that he is keeping from Javi, and this is keeping him from trusting anyone. The book has an excellent flow to it, with great characters, and humor, and I enjoyed it from beginning to end. This was my first time reading from this author, and I was not disappointed.

If you need your next binge-worthy adventure in book form, this is the story for you. Kirby has done it yet again, and makes you completely surrounded in the world of these characters in such a way that you don't want to leave. I kept getting like I knew Javi and Blake myself! The story takes you to every emotion you can think of, and even though you are reading about someone else, you end up learning something about yourself too. That's the power of a great writer I suppose, and I thoroughly loved this novel. If you need a great escape into a story you'll want to tell everyone about, please do yourself a favor a read J&B.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author, the story was a good fun read and it kept my attention from start to finish, I really liked Blake and Javi as characters and am looking forward to reading more from this author in the future.
