Alpha Bait: Three Werewolves for Dylan

Rate this book
Can one human handle three alpha werewolves? Dylan Landry is about to find out...

Dylan Landry feels like he’s walked straight into an alternate universe. Werewolves – big, muscular, alpha werewolves – are throwing themselves at him left and right, and he has no idea why.

There’s nothing special about him. He’s just your average grad student working on his thesis and trying to get by in the big city. There’s no reason for werewolf alphas to be striking up conversations, pressing close when they talk to him, and asking him out on dates while they look him up and down like they want to eat him – but they are.

It's ridiculously confusing.

For August, Ryker and Steve, the alpha werewolves in question, there's nothing ridiculous or confusing at all about wanting Dylan. The human smells like the word mate incarnate, and he's so achingly perfect that the idea of not having him is too terrible to even consider. Sweet, eager to please, and unexpectedly funny, he's everything they could ever want in a mate.

But with three of them and only one of Dylan, August, Ryker and Steve are going to have to figure out how to make this work. Someone has to be left out in the cold, and no one wants it to be them. After all, it's not like they can share.

One human couldn't possibly handle three alpha werewolves... could he?

(Alpha Bait is a full-length paranormal romance novel about an adorable grad student who catches the attention of three dominant alpha werewolves. The story contains evil alphas (not the main characters), pack politics, and three knot-headed alphas who fall head over heels in love with their human. The story features bondage, muscle worship and medical play. It has a happily ever after and no cliffhanger.)

“These were his people, he thought with a sense of wonder. His mates. It felt too big and wonderful to wrap his mind around.”

Where to start with this book? This book was recommended to me by a friend, and I enjoyed it.

We have Alpha Pair Ryker and August, two Alpha werewolves who left their pack to be together. They’ve known each other since they were children, and have been a pair since they were 14 and now married for ten years. They both always knew they would need a third to balance them out, but so far, everyone they’ve met did not fit into their dynamic.

Dylan goes to his appointment for a mole he was worried about and, during what should be a routine check-up and procedure, ends up being propositioned by the doctor, August, who thinks he’s the man he’s supposed to meet after hours for a medical role play hook-up. Dylan is baffled but attracted to August, so he goes along with it, and they have an intense connection. August knows he found their mate in Dylan and is excited to return to Ryker and tell him.

We also have a young alpha werewolf, Steve, a rookie officer. He’s just moved into the area and has been butting heads with Ryker and August during the full moon runs. He’s away in their territory, so they’ve chased and tossed him about. He runs into Dylan one day and is instantly attracted but backs off once he realizes he’s been claimed by the wolves he has animosity towards.

This was a long but fun read! I think at close to 800 pages, it's one longest novel I’ve read this year it's up there with Nyla K's For the Fans length. Alpha Bait is high steam, super kinky and very much on the erotica side. This book is 85% smut with 15% plot. It’s very much focused on Dylan and his relationship with his Alphas, especially as they bring in their pack and introduce him to the world of BDSM and kinks. Dylan is eager to please his alphas, and they discover that the innocent human, who ends up being their omega, is their perfect match sexually.

Some of the sex scenes are pretty rough, and Dylan goes through a lot with his Alphas, but they do care for him and often check with him before trying anything new. They’re aware of his body’s limits and won’t do anything that will cause him actual harm or pain. Some of the sex scenes may seem like noncon, but I would say it’s mainly on the dubcon side. But it does become pretty consensual as the story goes on.

With three against one, August had a guilty realization that they needed to do more to safeguard against accidentally pressuring Dylan into taking on more than he could handle. It was already too easy to get carried away – as Dylan’s currently numbed hole could testify – and with three of them, the damage they could do was considerable.

“We also don’t want to accidentally pressure you into doing things,” August said. “We can be enthusiastic sometimes, but that doesn’t mean that we’d be angry with you for saying no. You know that, right?”

I think due to the misunderstanding that occurs, some boundaries are pushed in the beginning, and due to the nature of omegas being somewhat unknown, Dylan ends up being cum addicted to his alphas. He isn’t happy at first but comes to accept it especially since it wasn’t done on purpose by his Alphas.

Every time he tried to process the fact that he was tied to August and Ryker for the rest of his life, his heart started beating fast and his chest felt like someone was sitting on it – and not in the fun way like when August planted his ass on his chest and sat there slapping his dick down on his face.

Having sex with August and Ryker wasn’t scary – he’d enjoyed every single encounter he’d had with the two alphas – but depending on them not to feel that horrible yearning empty feeling, that terrified him.

I would say if you're looking for soft and sweet sex or relationship, this book isn't for you. Despite how much they care for Dylan, the Alphas are very much Alpha-like in the bedroom. Dylan goes through a lot, but nothing more than he can handle and is okay with. They do push his limits (especially when they were under the impression he was someone else), and for some readers, it may go into territory that they're uncomfortable with.

I also liked seeing the dynamic between the Alphas. With Ryker and August having so much history, you see the love they both have for one another. They really adore Dylan and see him as central to their relationship. The relationship they each have with Dylan is a little different. With Steve, however, it does take time for him to feel like he's part of the relationship. The connection between Steve and his Alphas is there, especially between him and Ryker, but since it's so new, it still seems fresh. There's also a clear hierarchy in their mini-pack. Ryker is the Alpha leader, August second, and Steve is the more submissive Alpha of the trio.

There's a minor plotline regarding Steve's pack and his father. He's the unstable leader of his pack and is taken out since he tried to forcefully bind Dylan and assault him.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book! While it was a long book, I read it quite fast, I was definitely pulled in and really enjoyed Dj Heart's writing. I look forward to reading more of his books.

Please check TWs/CWs for this story, as it is definitely not for everyone.

This book was straight up dub-con that changes to non-con. At first I thought the sex scenes were hot, but eventually they just made me feel sick. And once you start skipping the sex scenes, there isn’t really much left to this 800 page book. This is always a risk with the omegaverse trope, but this one was bad. If you enjoy that kind of book, read away. But I like my romances to be consensual, and once a human is unknowingly given mind-altering cum drugs that force him to do anything outside of his kink limits (limits which aren’t discussed until 60% in) in order to feed an incurable addiction, I’m out. The alphas admit several times to feeling vague flits of guilt, but that’s it; they’re not sorry. They just want a few holes to bang in whatever kinky way they want, and that’s exactly what they get. Oof

This is one hefty book. Like, unnecessarily hefty. Coming in at almost 800 pages, it just went on and on and on. But I stuck with it, and while I don’t regret reading the whole thing, I will admit to being slightly disappointed. All of the parts seemed to work individually, but as a whole, it was a lot to take in. Some issues:

-I’m usually all for DJ Heart’s hardcore BDSM style, but eventually I just felt bad for Dylan. I mean, if you choke Dylan out and he’s passes out but still had fun, maybe that should be the end of your play. Not straight into another fairly hardcore scene where you put a muzzle on him, truss him up like a Christmas pig and continue to have your way with him. Can poor Dylan get a little softness, PLEASE?

-For anyone who has seen Hamilton and gets the whole and Peggy reference, that’s what Steve felt like to me for the first half of this book…And Steve. For the record, half of this book would be about 400 pages. That’s a long time for Steve to be a side character in a book where he’s supposed to be one of the MCs.

-August gives Dylan his claiming bite without a single talk beforehand. He just does it and I was really not okay with that. He’s already essentially tied to August and Ryker because of his dependence on them, and now here’s another choice taken away from him.

-The drama with Steve’s pack seemed forced. Clearly Steve’s father is unstable and they just continues to let this unpredictable alpha lead the pack? Especially when Marcus was strong enough to take over? Pass.

Overall, an okay read I suppose. But I was left with a general feeling of meh at the end. I did love the dynamic between August and Ryker though. Two strong alphas forging a life together against the odds. I am down with that whole trope. The book wasn’t bad per se, just long and drawn out which made it a bit of a slog. There are plenty of good parts to be read for sure, it just needed some trimming to make it more palatable.

📝 REVIEW & THOUGHTS:

Did I just read over 700 pages of pure werewolf smut? Yes. Yes, I did, apparently.

I truly appreciated the mentions of the douching by the bottom. It doesn’t often happen in MM and always lives me questioning if they are all eating dirty ass lol

It was a fun book. The smut is really hot, if you’re into D/s dynamic and BDSM themes. That’s the main course, not much else in this book.

I had fun, it probably would’ve been better if it was cut of at least 100 pages because when I got around 600, it started dragging a bit. You may feel differently if you don’t binge read the entire book in a little more than one day, though.

I would’ve loved more 1:1 action and/or more action on the alpha/alpha pairing…

I feel the author missed on a possibility of a great plot point and plot twist on a specific thing, but I don’t wanna spoil it for you. If you’re curious read the latest paragraph in my “rant” section at the end of my review…

😤 LITTLE RANT (possible spoilers):

Why did we skip the first threesome scene 😭 like we got all of that foreplay and play, and the boom, jumped to “we already had two other dates with Dylan” 😭 I wanted the d!cking down and the after care 🥹

There were a few skipped smut scenes, I totally get not wanting to be repetitive, but I’d rather read about the org@sms part than the play before or after. Like why skip parts of a scene? 😭 this happened multiple times and my h0rny ass didn’t appreciate it 🤣🤣 just skip the entire scene and go to the next at this point, don’t tease ussssss.

I think Steve needed more relationship development with the other 3. Especially the other two alphas. It’s like he was in the sidelines… not fair, he was also my favorite lol

And last but not least…. HOW TF DID THE CATFISH/CHAT/ROLEPLAY THING GOT BRUSHED OVER AS A COINCIDENCE? There were too many coincidences, almost exactly the same name, appointments at the same time for the same reason? How could a roleplay scenario be set up for a person with basically the same name, for the same reason of checking a mole, at the same day and time, but with a different person? And then Dylan accidentally went to the wrong doctor’s office and the actual person that should’ve gone there ghosted? And the author wants me to believe it was just pure coincidence? That’s not possible….. I mean how would that even happen….. too many coincidences! I was soooo waiting for some plot twist regarding this, and was sooooo disappointed when it was concluded just a simple mixup and coincidence….. THAT’S NOT POSSIBLE!!! This is the main reason for which this book is rated 3.75 instead of 4….

* Fyi about 🌶️ levels: I rate spice on a combination of quantity, quality, length, intensity and explicitness of the scenes. K!nks are listed separately and generally do not directly affect the steam level to keep it fair for non k!nky books.

Consent is sexy...but what does a reader do when poking out ones own eyes isn't an option. I mean if the editor was to leave three hundred pages for a novella. I mean I would be mad atcha. Still didn't answer one niggling thought. How are werewolves made?

This book is a nightmare
Every single thing that I hate about bad shifters books are inside….

Stupid misunderstanding leading the alphas to keep pushing their sexual kink into the bottom… thinking he is another person, that feels like abuse …. The all bdsm thing feels pushed even though the protagonists keep saying Dylan has a choice. He knows he has a choice but a lot happened where he just didn’t speak up, because he is « submissive » and let it happen, then discovered he liked it ? 🤦🏻‍♀️
Cum addiction that I found so stupid…. Like where is the romance in that ? 🙄 and the fact that they didn’t thought about that 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️
Like oh well surprise you are stuck with us now 👀

And this book is sooooo long !
Like the first sex scene is like more than 20 pages…. It gets boring so quickly, I kept scrolling this see where the plot is…..

And don’t get me started in the romance with Steve… the guy get his bond with Dylan by him liking his cum from his boot…. And their whole life change because of that? 🤦🏻‍♀️ I mean what the hell ?

I’m struggling to finish the book….

Well then...

First off, mind the warnings on this one. Lots of things happen in here and some are on the extreme side.

Spoilers ahead

Let's get the major complaint out of the way first. This is an extremely long book. It took me forever to get through it.

Second, the mistaken identity trope does not work for me when it comes to bdsm. From the moment Dylan showed up at the Drs office, it seemed very much noncon and it felt that way for a long time.

Anyways, in here we have Dylan, the poor college student who was sent to a Dr to get his mole checked out. He meets Dr Wolf, who then does an entire scene in the office while thinking Dylan was the dude he was talking online to. Dr Wolf is married to Lawyer Wolf, and both are immediately into Dylan. While rushing to the Drs office, Dylan literally runs into Cop Wolf who is pissed he didn't get Dylan first.

So in between sex, bdsm scenes, and lots of spooge things happen. Eventually the Alphas figure out that they all want each other as well as Dylan, the secret omega who gets addicted to their cum.

So the politics are resolved, packs created, and these four became a family.

I'm not going to lie, my favorite chapter was the epilogue. It really seemed like they had become a close kinky family.

DNF @ 25%

I've come to realize that I don't like stories that involve a mistaken identity or someone lying to someone about who they are. This stories features the former situation and it's really annoying, especially since it should have clicked by now that the Dylan that Ryker and August are spending time with isn't the Dylan that they've been chatting with prior to meeting up. Dylan definitely should've realized that something about their conversations wasn't adding up, but he was too self conscious and horny to think straight.

I'm almost 200 pages into this nearly 800 page story and nothing is happening except a lot of kinky sex and Dylan constantly being confused as to why the two alphas just assume he'd be into any of it (not that he wasn't). I'm kind of getting bored, and from the reviews I've read, I don't think that'll change as the story progresses.

I'd categorize this more as erotica than romance because I haven't seen any romance yet. This isn't a bad story by any means; it's just not what I'm in the mood for. I also didn't care for any of the characters. The alphas were too pushy and aggressive, and Dylan...well, he was nothing but a timid ball of submissive horniness. There wasn't really anything to actually like or dislike about him.

I'm definitely interested in trying to read some of this author's other stories. This particular story just didn't gel with me. NO RATING. 🖤

needs more trigger warnings

This book is purely Erotica. It’s not realistic at all. Dylan set some clear boundaries and they were immediately broken without consequences. That’s not how BDSM works. When someone says no to something you don’t take that as a pass and do it anyway and then be justified because the person ended up liking. Dylan was very bland and felt more like a prop written just for the alphas gratification. He had almost no character development. I didn’t even get halfway through this book because I felt so dirty and was so angry at the alphas for tricking Dylan into bonding and then biting him without consent. Dylan was very much a slave from the beginning. The author needs a reeducation on the definition of BDSM.

I tried, I really did but I just couldn’t find it in myself to finish. I have no problem with BDSM but both Alpha werewolves should have noticed the difference between the person online and in reality even though he went along with it.

I’ve read everything I could get my hands on by D. J. Heart except the series on puppy play. I’ve loved them all. This is one of the few authors whose sex scenes never get boring for me. I’m not usually into books with multiple partners, but somehow D. J. makes it work. This time it was three Alpha’s to one Omega. This book is so much fun. It kept me entertained for the entire 800 pages.

I am an avid smut reader, if there isn’t at least something steamy worth while in a book I won’t even buy it. That being said, I found every heated encounter in this book to be gross, and I’ve read some nasty books. This includes but is not limited to :
First meeting with second love interests involves forcing MMC into their sweaty armpit and making them lick it (this is suppose to be sexual, and this is a common theme in this book)
Spiting directly into MMCs mouth while they’re eating
Hocking lougies in MMC mouth, frequently, if not every scene, the amount of spitting is over the top
Smothering MMC in buttcrack or any odorous area
Forcible penetration/excessive (potentially harmful) roughness
Mentions of urination but not committed

I found August and Ryker to be smarmy and their bedroom antics (especially with the lack of proper communication) non-appealing and they gave me the ICK, didn’t even get far enough into the story where Steve is added into the pack. If these occurrences are your cup of tea then let your flag fly and enjoy.

1.5 stars. Sunk cost fallacy strikes again. And it sucks! It's bad! I shouldn't have read this, because I knew at a certain point that I wouldn't enjoy it. But like I said in my update, this was something I kept chipping away at idly for weeks, because it was easy to read, train-wrecky, and I was mildly invested in seeing one of the relationships. And then at a certain point, I realised that I'd read almost 500 pages of this damn thing, and I was like, 'Well, I read this much; I might as well finish it!' Wrong. I shouldn't have. I should have bailed. I try to avoid hate-reading, because I don't get anything out of it, but I have to admit, that's what I was doing by the end of this. Hate-reading. And that's bad. It feels almost unfair to complain about all the ways I think this was bad, because I knew I wasn't having a good time, and I should have DNFed.

Um, but I'm gonna complain anyway.

There's so much more I could complain about (I was scrolling through my kindle app, looking at all the notes I made, and it's a lot) but I think I've already spent too much brainpower on this. It was bad. I didn't like it. I'm sorry I read it. The author isn't for me. I hope I never read the word 'bulge' again.

I only skipped 1 sex scene, and oh boy, there were many.

I really enjoyed this book.I already read another book that's very similar and in the same universe.so I was prepared. I enjoyed all the characters, but I don't think It should have been that long. The sex scenes started to become repetitive but still enjoyable. The little plot I got was great, I kind of wish there was more.

Even though the book was long, nothing much really happened. Dylan is a Magician. I still can't believe he took 10 inches EACH!!!!

As an avid fanfiction reader I have read pretty much everything under the sun. Most tropes don’t bother me and even shitty writing is something I can gloss over most times if the story line is decent enough.

The only thing that kept me going through this book was trying to figure how the hell the author was going to end it and why it was so long. The sex scenes are extremely kinky, if you are into that then this book is for you as there is almost no plot. However, some of the themes make you feel icky and uncomfortable due to the “accidental” dubcon/noncon. The plot is all over the place and feels forced in certain parts. And honestly the writing leaves much to be desired.

This book is for a very specific group of people which is why I am not giving it a 1 star.

Overall, proceed with caution and don’t hope for too much plot.

Not even a lil believable. 4% in and his doctor is ok with him showing up 45 mins late for appointment, gives extra attention and a complete physical when not needed, THEN launchs straight into heavy BDSM. Make it believable

Fab MMMM PNR, emotional storyline and lots of sexy times
This novel features many of the author’s signature themes - leather, werewolves, knotting, muscle worship and frequent fairly kinky sex in multiple pairings.

In the DJ Heart universe, large, muscular werewolves live openly in the world and organise in socks with alphas, betas and an occasional omega. On his way to a doctor’s appointment, Dylan meets a tall very attractive man who tries to flirt with him, but Dylan is in a rush - he has a doctor’s appointment. And this is where Dylan ‘s adventure truly begins! The doctor, August, is expecting someone else for a kinky hook up and doesn’t realise that Dylan isn’t him. I’m sure you can guess the rest!

Dylan soon finds himself in a relationship with alpha werewolves August and his parter, Ryker but is also drawn to Steve - the werewolf he met on his way to the doctor. How the foursome make this work alongside dealing with pack politics makes for an enthralling tale.

I’m not going to spoil the story and yes, there’s a lot of hot, kinky sex but it’s also got a very good storyline that’s emotional and heart warming. There’s some violence and an attempted sexual assault but it’s essential to the plot.

What I really liked was that Dylan was able to say no to kinks he didn’t like or was wary of, and that his partners didn’t push him beyond his red-lines.

The foursome were cute, hot (so hot) and kinky together, 5⭐️

DNF @ 32%. I couldn't stand any of the main characters besides Steve. August and Ryker are a**holes and so egotistical I rolled my eyes several times. So many lines were crossed without having a conversation about limits and safe words, it's ridiculous. I understand there was a mix up between the characters, but it still should've happened regardless.

This was some good old fashioned bdsm queer omegaverse smut, with parts of the plot being very engaging, and some parts being overly drawn out. I really don't need to know if you like your scrambled eggs hard or soft. Couldn't care less.

I think the author could have distilled this into 65% of it's size (wdym 17 hours at regular speed??). But I knew what I came for and I was not disappointed, I got all the things I wanted from such a book, i.e. mindless over the top omegaverse smut.

Roe Horvat is the undisputed king of this genre but I still gave this a 4 ⭐ rating because it never pretended to be anything else other than what it is. I hate false advertising and I got exactly what I paid for. Left a satisfied customer who was looking for a slightly elevated omegaverse bdsm fic.

Wowsers!

Ummm... not even sure where to start except to say that do not go into this lightly. It was like one consentual non-con scene after another... and another...and another. Werewolf 3 (Steve) gets in on the action between human Dylan and werewolves Ryker and Augusta late in the game but the build up was worth it.

One interesting bit is that these were werewolves not wolf shifters.

Had to read for a group challenge. This one was needlessly long. Almost 800 pages and most of it the same old sex scenes. The beginning was eye opening trying to make colonic sexy. My initial thoughts was ah this is one of those we listen but don't judge books. I didn't like August with the way he railroaded things and then Ryker pretty much did the same. Steve was the starter gentleman of the group. There were a couple of things he said no to I think the biting was one of them. My opinion of Ryker improved when he started befriending Steve. My opinion of Dylan went down when he rushed to board a plane away from his alphas without proper communication.

The father was a C. Glad he went the way he did. Why no one even questioned why he was staying behind was beyond me. He was nasty, abusive and manipulative. I liked Marcus. Shame about what he had to put up with.

As for the sex and kink, you had colonics until the machine was made out of bounds. An incident with a shampoo bottle and the odd crop. There is a lot of talk about kink and limits and what they'd like to do. Number one was sounding from Dylan and not done on page. The rest is skull f*cking and tunnelling. It's all about the holes. Could've been a lot shorter.

Dylan Landry, Dr. August Schaffer, Ryker Sterling, & Steve Miller.

Not sure how to begin describing this one. It’s about a human graduate student who finds himself involved with 3 alpha werewolves.

Open world. Takes place in a neutral territory in Fort Plainslac, Montana with no overarching pack. August and Ryker are a mated couple, both alpha, both tops, both Doms. They had always planned to add a third, a sub, a bottom to their relationship.

Between the two of them, Ryker is the Alpha in their two man pack. They grew up together in a pack in Phoenix, Arizona. Ryker didn’t want to fight to become a leader in the pack, so August and Ryker went out on their own.

Steve is a lone wolf living in the same neutral territory. The three wolves have only interacted when Steve tried to run in territory Ryker & August claimed for their monthly run. They ran him off in a “take down the puppy” fashion, rather than a violent way.

Steve is the middle son of the Alpha of the Northwestern pack, which is centered in Alaska, but covers covers Alaska & half of Canada. His older brother Marcus is being groomed to take over as Alpha of the pack, his younger brother William is a beta. Steve went to college to study criminal justice with the goal of working at Anchorage PD, but a fight with his father having him leaving the pack for neutral territory in Montana. He is a uniformed street cop.

Dylan is a human graduate student, originally from Anchorage, Alaska. He literally bumps into Steve on the street, but he gets away before Steve can express his interest. Dylan was already late to a doctor’s appointment in a clinic recommended by the university. His doctor? August.

August thought his last appointment of the day was actually a kinky role-play hookup he’d negotiated a scene with, never realizing the young man before him was simply looking for a mole removal. So while August was perfectly professional when it came to the actual mole removal, he was way beyond professional with his dirty talk, lack of personal space, lingering touches, and his bold proposition.

The fact that Dylan also found the idea of being tied down exciting was something he wasn’t quite ready to admit to himself.

When Dr. Schaffer grabbed a third roll and took hold of his wrist, however, he felt he had to speak up.

“Is that really necessary?”

Dylan’s voice came out wobbly, and he could hear the sound of his pulse echoing loudly in his ears.

He may be a little more freaked out than he’d realized.

“You don’t want to be tied up?”

Dr. Schaffer paused, still holding Dylan’s wrist in a loose grip. He sounded confused, but not angry, and Dylan was left feeling bewildered.

Was tying each other up so normal now that not doing it was considered weird? There was no way. Dylan would have heard about that, even with as little sex as he’d been having.

“I mean, you could ask before you do it,” Dylan said, forcing himself to voice his discomfort.

He still really wanted to get fucked, but he felt like they’d moved far enough into the deep end of the kinky swimming pool.

“Are you sure?” Dr. Schaffer bit his lip, his eyes warm. “You don’t want me to take control and have my way with you?”

Something about the way he said it was weird, but Dylan didn’t know why. It was like he expected the words to mean more to Dylan than they did.

“Maybe?” Dylan hedged. “But some communication would be good, too.”

Dr. Schaffer dropped the bandage and cupped Dylan’s cheek, stroking his leather-clad thumb over the edge of his mouth with a tender little gesture.

“I can do communication.” He slid his thumb over the inside of Dylan’s lip, pressing against his teeth and making him taste leather. “Here’s what I’m thinking. I tie you up using these-” he nodded down at the self-adhesive bandage resting on Dylan’s lap “-and then I hook you up to the colonic machine. While that’s running, we tilt the chair back and I feed you my cock. Then, when you’re nice and clean on the inside, I’ll stretch out your hole with my fingers and fuck you. After that, if you’re a really good boy, I’ll let you come before putting you in a chastity cage so that you’ll be nice and horny for your next appointment. Sound good?”

Dylan stared up at the wolf-like grin on Dr. Schaffer’s face, the breath caught in his throat as his cock twitched and released another trickle of pre-come.

The words chastity cage rang in his ears.

He should say no and leave. Dylan knew that he was in over his head – that Dr. Schaffer was a deviant in ways he was not prepared for – but despite that he couldn’t bring himself to actually say the words to make the doctor stop.

His cock wouldn’t let him.

Taking an unsteady breath, Dylan swallowed and nodded his head. “Sounds good.”

His voice was wobbly.

Dr. Schaffer’s grin turned downright evil. “Good boy. Now let’s finish tying you up so that I can get you hooked up to the machine.”

Kinky doctor. Luckily his patient had a multitude of as of yet undiscovered kinks of his own. So when August asked Dylan on a date with both him and his mate, Dylan accepted.

***

High on kinks. Low on what I consider werewolf lore. For most of the book the wolfy stuff was confined to bites, mates, knotting, and your occasional puppy pile.

August and Ryker are large & muscle bound, while Dylan is your typical twink. Lots of manhandling & muscle worship, plus August has a strange fascination for face-sitting & otherwise pushing his partner’s body into the bed with his body weight. (Some of the kinks tagged were discussed, but not shown on the page.)

***

Book presents like a stand alone, but the part about August’s little brother Spencer makes me wonder if a sequel is in the works.

I wasn't sure what to expect going into this, given how long it is and how simple these omegaverse stories typically are. I'd say this is about as plot heavy as a usual book, and the rest is padded out with smut. If you're on the kinkier side, that smut will likely appeal to you. If you don't appreciate kink, you might find this difficult to read. Major kink themes are power exchange, humiliation, suffocation, gloves, impact play, puppy play, boots.

As for the plot. It could have been better, but it wasn't bad. Nothing particularly sophisticated, everything is very clearly foreshadowed so there are no surprises. But it's maybe a bit more involved than the average book. Though Heart takes every opportunity to not engage in world building.

I’m surprised with how consistently entertaining this was for the entire 800 pages!
