My new client’s a nightmare. Older, arrogant, and totally off limits. Until one passionate night when he wasn’t… His touch left me craving, the one man I know I can’t have. Nicholas Darby.
He’s successful, rich, and the most sought-after bachelor in London. I’m sure the universe has put him in my life just to tantalize me, because there is no way I would choose to want such a jerk. I would walk away tomorrow if I didn’t need this job.
Fighting with him is sizzling foreplay. Chemistry that can’t be ignored, and believe me, we try.
If we can’t get this fire that’s burning between us under control, then we’ll both be walking away aching for the one thing we both fear the most… love.
Karen Deen is an author who loves to write love stories that will stay with you long after you’ve finished reading them. Her stories are filled with spice and witty banter, while being full of emotion, comedy, suspense and twists and turns that you never see coming. All the time steering her characters to their happily ever after. Everything you need in a good love story.
Writing has become her career, which she is lucky to be doing in such a picturesque hometown near Sydney, Australia. Enjoying life over good meals with her childhood sweetheart husband, three adult children and their ever-growing family. Or a sneaky lunch or coffee date with friends that involve laughter until your sides hurt.
Loved Nic and Tori. The push and pull between these to is great, not to mention the chemistry. This book pulled me in, and once I started, it was hard to put down. Nicholas Weston Darby super hot billionaire that's got some serious baggage, inherited his Fathers and grandfather's hotel legacy, and is determined to better it and make them both proud. He doesn't need a woman and certainly doesn't believe in love until he meets Victoria Packer, who certainly knows how to pack a punch and totally messes with his mojo. She's the beautiful feisty red head who won't take his s**t . It's one hell of a ride for them both with twists and turns you don't see coming a well written story that comes together perfectly. I certainly hope there is more from some of the other characters in the book, especially Flynn and Lou. Fantastic read that I would certainly recommend.
Favourite Quite :- “Why drive an old man’s Volvo when you can have a car like this?” I say, holding open her door and helping her into her seat. “Besides, I’m told women like things that are powerful and with the perfect amount of thrust.”
The prologue set the stage for a heart-wrenching tale, withholding the full story until later in the book. I was captivated as I discovered the connection between Nicholas and the characters introduced in the prologue. Victoria finds herself in the right place at the right time, crossing paths with Nic, emphasizing the importance of timing throughout the story. Their initial meeting sparked intense chemistry, leading to frequent and unexpected encounters. As they collaborate on a rebranding project, their relationship swings between love and animosity. Can they resist each other, or will they find common ground? Explore this book to delve into the complexities of Nic and Tori's relationship, from the sweet to the turbulent. This narrative is filled with love, loss, family dynamics, and drama. I'm eager to uncover more about Flynn, Forrest, Remington, and Elouise!
ARC Review of The Craving by Karen Deen - INCLUDING BONUS EPILOGUE! * * * * * A steamy age-gap office romance between a grumpy Australian man whose world is hit with a massive change and the sexy young beauty who he loves getting riled up.
Nicholas accepted that he would never get that happy family others did, and that final nail in the coffin happens when he is visited with a shocking discovery. Now, four years later, he is having he entire life changed. His home. His work. Now, he's facing some troubles which have him in the presence of a sizzling young woman. Victoria did not exactly make the best first impression on her boss, and she is not doing any better as she continues to be with him. They snap. They probe. They are in way over their heads of they think they can push down the attraction because it is bound to snap! It's also bound to be discovered, and used against them.
A fantastic read that was planned out well with a prologue that just gives us a little extra kick to Nicholas's character background. Like, hit me with the hard stuff why don't you?! I was not expecting to be given this little extra spice! The additional epilogue - graciously given by the wonderful author - gives us some more steamy and sweet moments between our lovers. Nicholas's mother is hilarious. Best friends are awesome. A few other nasty people need to get more than they deserve! Nicholas's character has some serious issues and constantly uses his anger as a sheild and a tool to cope, which he ends up taking out on Victoria. She however, maybe a bit of a clumsy young woman but she will show this man that she will not be treated as such. You go girl! Thumbs up for this read, interested to see if there will be more from other characters.
Thanks miss Deen! I’m in the blessed position to receive an Arc for a honest opinion.
I don’t know where to start…….. I hate it…….. I love it…….. I want to stop……… I can’t stop……. I want it to end………it needs to go on…… The only thing I know that after reading the first 40 pages it’s already fucking with my heart and sanity.
Miss Deen is doing it again……… Anyone, I’m unavailable this weekend. I’ve got a book to read who is going to make laugh, cry, scream, hate, love and everything in between. Get yourself a cuppa tea and lots of chocolate and enjoy. 💚💔🙄😬🤣😭🤬💔💚💚😘😘 For me it’s a 4.9 stars because I think for a 26 year old woman Tori is a bit to much and all over the place. It is a lot spicier than what we are used to from miss Deen.
Loved this book so much. Hooked from the very first page. Would have loved to know more of Sally’s story, this story just held me intrigued until the last page. Well written and with wonderful characters. Tori was strong and paired off well with Nicholas. There sizzling, angsts romance kept me hooked. This book will definitely leave you Craving.
I received a complimentary copy but voluntarily chose to review
Absolutely brilliant book, reels you in from the first page . I loved Tori’s and Nick story. Their romance is turbulent and this book keeps you glued to it until the last page .
I would love to know more about Elouise, Forrest and Broderick and Sally.
The craving is full of twists, turns and multiple years.
Karen has written a wonderful story of love, with a twinge of sad, erotica and left turns. I love that Victoria is strong enough to be her bumbling outspoken self and not just a hapless woman yet soft enough to be dominated by the strong, some times arrogant Nicholas.
Nic is a wealthy hotel owner after his is left the business by his grandfather and Tori is employed to re-brand the company.
Nic has issues expressing his feels after he believes he was abandoned by his father. The attraction between the 2 makes you want to keep reading. Hopefully get more of the other characters
Victoria is a hot mess. She is always saying the wrong thing or doing the wrong thing and now is finally her time. She has a new job, making real money, and that starts today. But in true Victoria fashion, she barely made the train, there aren’t any seats…yes there is one. The window seat beside an extremely hot sexy man. Things may be looking up for a change….and then she spits her drink all over him.
Skipping by the first part of Nic’s life, he is now very popular, mega rich, and insanely sexy hot. He normally has his driver taking him to work but things just aren’t working out that morning. Little does he know, his whole world is about to turn upside down by being on the train that morning.
Let’s say to start, what an opening chapter. Wow! That really takes you on a ride, especially when you find out the details. Not going lie, needed a tissue. Nicholas has grown up his whole life believing one thing to have everything he thought be wrong. So much vulnerability yet no way to express it. Loved him.
Victoria, well, she’s young so I will give her the benefit of being a bit bratty. But, loved the banter between her and Nic as well as between the friends. Lots of fun to read. Also, the chemistry climbed off the pages between these two. Very steamy and swoony. I do wish more revenge would have come down on the cousin but entertaining twist for sure. Very good read!
I Received this book via ARC and am leaving my review voluntarily.
the book started fun and light - I liked the FMC as she was silly and overly argumentative (sometimes irritatingly so) but at least had a backbone. That is until they get close and she turns into a mushy turnip and insignificant. this change could have been ok if the author had explored the reason for that change to be the unbalance of power due to the MMC age and use of his dominance/money to diminish her - that could have added drama and interest to the story. Ideally then, when she escapes him to find herself, the author could have described a good character building experience for the FMC that would have rebalanced their relationship. However, this is not the case at all - the relationship still feels very much unbalanced and close to bullying. In all fairness, reading some parts of the book makes me uncomfortable as the dominance and submissive traits are not then balanced by a healthy relationship; the FMC comes across as psychologically negatively effected by the relationship that is close to demeaning to her and undermining her self confidence as a young woman (especially considering the age difference) - and all in the name of love! Do not get me wrong, this is not a full on intense psychological thriller romance book but it is meant to be light and funny. However, in order to strike the light romantic notes, I think the author is not taking into account how readers see what happens and how the FMC is effected in the story.
I’ll be attending the Four Brits Book Fest (FBBF) in York next year, my first book signing event and can’t wait to see all the fabulous authors and buy their books!!
So I’m going to read at least one book from each attending author before I go.
The Craving by Karen Deen is my first book in this challenge.
Victoria Packer only just gets her train. Finding a seat might be impossible until she spots someone has his bag taking a space and asks to sit. His legs are long and he’s older and hot, and also wearing her tea but you need to read this book to find out why.
There’s a definite chemistry between them which they can’t deny and they find each other again at the end of the night when he come a cross her drunk and in a mess after her first new job day, her co-worker Theo making sure she joins in with all the alcoholic shots. But Nic, the man from the train finds her and gets her home, he’s hoping this is the last time he sees her.
Nic or Nicholas Darby is the owner of a hotel brand- The Darby Hotels. He has had a life thinking his dad didn’t care about him and his mother, until he learns the truth, he finds it impossible to even think of loving anyone.
But life takes strange turns where they find each other again and he’s impressed with who she really is underneath all her chaos.
Great story, enjoyed Tori/Victoria’s bratty attitude and she just wouldn’t take any crap off anyone. Both very likeable characters, I also esp liked his friends too; Flynn, Forest and Remington and Tori’s friend Lou. Hoping to read more about these characters in other books.
Victoria is on her way to her first day on a new job. She has a hilarious encounter on the train with a hot, grumpy Australian businessman. Then another encounter with him outside a bar. Their attraction is electric but they can’t stand each other. Arguing just makes their attraction off the charts.
Nicholas is a man with an emotional past that has really affected his life and his feelings on love and loss. He doesn’t believe he can love someone till fiery Victoria charges into it.
Victoria wasn’t expecting to be so attracted to Nicholas. He’s older than her, grumpy and bossy. But she can’t deny her craving for him.
Their story will have you laughing one minute then grabbing the tissues next. Karen Deen did a fabulous job drawing you into this griping story. So many twist and turns. It’s off the charts steamy and hot. 🥵 You will not be able to put this one down. Definitely a 5 star read.
I’ve read and enjoyed Karen Deen’s books before, so I went into The Craving with high hopes. Unfortunately, this one fell flat for me in almost every way.
The female main character was, quite frankly, irritating. Instead of being layered or relatable, her choices felt frustrating and her inner voice lacked depth. I kept waiting for her story to grip me, but it never did—it dragged and felt repetitive rather than compelling.
What surprised me most was the writing itself. Normally, Deen’s stories are polished and engaging, but this book felt clumsy and poorly constructed. The flow was off, the emotional beats missed their mark, and the overall impact was underwhelming.
It’s disappointing, especially coming from an author whose previous work I’ve enjoyed so much. The Craving just didn’t live up to the standard I expected, and I honestly struggled to finish it.
Victoria and Nicolas—they meet on the train to downtown London and she spills tea all over him as she heads to the first day of her new job. Her first project? To develop the rebranding for his hotel chain. Both have fiery personalities and sparks fly fast and furious between them—from confrontations both in and out of the bedroom. He doesn’t handle emotions well, which causes him to react badly and take it out on her. Finally, she leaves him and travels; he works on himself. And when the time is right, he goes to her and they start their HEA, which is guaranteed to continue to be full of sparks both in and out of the bedroom.

I have so many words that could describe how much I loved this book. It has pulled so many emotions out of me that I am having to think hard how to process writing this review. I was swooning in places, laughing so hard at their banter, loving the cheeky comments throughout their relationship, and fawning over their sex life (which was f$$king off the charts with dominance). I even teared up in a couple places that I felt Nic was robbed but that is life. I also loved the epilogue too!!!!
Nic and Tori have a hot and heavy love story. I loved how the story begins with how Nics parents meet and fall in love. When Tori and Nic meet it's a bit of a disaster but they're are sparks. They love to argue with each other. They're are some great side characters too, such as Eloise and hilarious Flynn. Nic is a bosshole who Tori doesn't let him get away with anything! Loved every minute of this book. It was hard to put down.
While hoping the story would be good, it is disheartening to read the disparaging verbal abuse that Tori seems to think is okay to spurt to Nic. It is beyond unprofessional for this supposedly professional woman to speak to a prospective client, yet the writer seems to think this is “part of the tension” between the two characters. It only serves to annoy and doesn’t help the story. I slugged through, many times wanting to quit. Another book by this author was so good. This one, not so much. Not sure I will bother with any other books by her.
This was my first book by Karen, and I will definitely be back for more.
It took me a few chapters to get into the story but so glad I stuck with it, as we set up the characters and the storyline, and once we got to Nic and Tori's first interaction, I was hooked!
Nic and Tori know how to argue, so that meant the sexual chemistry between them was sizzling. They both had hurdles to overcome, and we went through lots of twists and turns, but the characters, story, and spice were on point.
I can't wait to find read, Flynn, Rem, and Forrest story.
DNF…. I just couldn’t get into this book. As I was reading the first chapter I thought it was ok. Not sure what chapter it was but the train scene started out great and promising. But after Tory’s pov , in the next chapter with Nicolas’s pov it seemed like it just went backwards. We got the whole day for Tory and then we get that whole same day for Nicholas. And with chapters it continued like that. I only made it to chapter six when I finally gave up. This story has lots of reviews and some great reviews but it just didn’t do it for me.
Nicholas' life has been turned on its axis and then he meets a sassy, independent woman named Victoria, who further scrambles everything. He's not one to admit to feelings but he may have to if he wants to keep Victoria around. Can he let her in, or will he continue to keep her at a distance and lose her?
Victoria has a life plan - wants to travel and see the world. Nowhere in that plan is there supposed to be a gorgeous but dominating man who takes up residence in her heart. But Nicholas isn't just some guy she works with now, no he's the man she's fallen in love with, even if he isn't about to tell her he feels the same. Maybe they can have a thing without defining it? Right...and maybe she can keep her heart protected...
Victoria and Nicholas are sizzling together! He's dominant and bossy and has a huge heart, but is carrying a lot of baggage that has that heart on ice. Poor Victoria, but not really, because she's strong and sassy and keeps him on his toes and brings him to his knees, something he's definitely not used to, but loves, just as he loves her, even if he's loathe to say it. The Craving is the kind of story I like best - electric chemistry, feisty heroine who puts the dominant man in his place even as he bosses her around, and feelings that are strong from their very first meeting. There's an equally awesome secondary cast in his friends and hers, and I'm really hoping all of them will get their own stories.
ARC provided by Give Me Books Promotions for an honest review.
I’m trying to finish this book. The beginning is very confusing When I finally catch up “Tori” is becoming more annoying;taking the animosity too far. Her rudeness isn’t cute,it’s immature . Calling Nic “who is essentially your boss” an ahole was ridiculous. I didn’t make the Headline “DNF” because even though it’s boring me to tears, I’ll try and get past Tori’s foul mouth.
I Loved this book! Tori is a firecracker who just lives in a whirlwind of chaos. The meetcute between Tori and Nic was not so much a cute moment but definitely a memorable one. Nic is a very difficult man, his road leading to Tori was that of personal turmoil, I loved the beginning where we got to meet his parents... This was a great read, and a good start to the new series. Cant wait for Elouise's book next😍
Wow, what a book. I loved the two main characters in this book, they were meant to be together but their story was complicated. Both fell hard and fast but there were so many obstacles in there way, mainly from Nic's past which is heartbreaking. It makes him the man he is but will Tori be able to overcome her doubts and help to tame the Alpha? I highly recommend this book.
Ummm… I’m confused. After reading the prologue and moving into chapter one, I am left a little confused. The prologue started with 2 different characters from the main ones and for me, I thought they were going to continue into the present day. Was the prologue needed? It set up expectations for me I didn’t want to read half the book to find out.

First time reading anything by Karen Deen and wow- WHERE HAVE I BEEN???
I absolutely love how she writes, the backstories and weaving the story together just felt so right! I loved this so much, had no questions no doubts about where the story was going and just simply enjoyed ALL OF IT.
This was a bit hit and miss for me. The jumping around at the beginning was annoying. It would have flowed better if written in real time from Australia to London. Tori leaving without informing her employer was unbelievable. Then the ending was too quick with the HEA and nothing solved.
