BOOK 4: THE GUILTY ONES DI Jackman’s sister-in-law disappears to London and throws herself into the river. What drove her to this? She was a woman with a seemingly happy home life and two beloved sons. Then, they discover a woman in a neighbouring village died in similar circumstances. What is the connection to a convicted murderer whose family are convinced he is innocent? Who is really pulling the strings? In a case so close to home, can Jackman keep his feelings under control?
BOOK 5: THE STOLEN BOYS A crime wave has hit town. The target is a highly sought-after brand of streetwear called Hybird X, clothing that costs a fortune and resells for unbelievable prices. Houses are burgled, kids mugged on the streets . . . and finally a young man dies, all for the sake of his shoes. Then another boy’s body is found in a pile of rubbish. A shadowy figure called Darke and his teams of young criminals seem to be behind it all. Detectives Jackman and Evans must take on a fiendish criminal, while still haunted by Alistair Ashcroft, the serial killer they never caught.
BOOK 6: THE PATIENT MAN * Shortlisted for Crime and Thriller Book of the Year at the British Book Awards 2021 .* Serial killer Alistair Ashcroft is back and ready to tidy up unfinished business. Ashcroft sends a sinister text to DS Marie Evans. His opening move in what will prove to be a lethal game of cat-and-mouse. Yet for all his taunts, where is he? In a county crawling with police on the lookout for him, Ashcroft is nowhere to be found. Alongside the hunt, normal police work must continue. A seemingly routine break-in at the home of gun-club owner Kenneth Harcourt quickly becomes more complicated when the man long held responsible for having killed Harcourt’s young daughter in a hit-and-run is shot dead in a carpark — by a sniper. In a stunning conclusion, Jackman and Evans race against time to catch the sniper and track down their deadly adversary.
Joy Ellis grew up in Kent but moved to London when she won an apprenticeship with the prestigious Mayfair florist, Constance Spry Ltd. Having run her own flower shop in Weybridge for many years, Ellis then worked as a bookseller until a trip to the Greek island of Skyros, where she took part in a writer's workshop with Sue Townsend, encouraged her to write her own books. Joy soon after moved to the Lincolnshire Fens, where she has spent many of years living among the countryside accompanied by her partner, Jacqueline, and her variety of springer spaniels. After many years of writing, Jasper Joffe, from Joffe Books, discovered Joy's work and approached her with the offer of becoming her new publisher. This new relationship introduced Joy's work to the fascinating world of ebooks and audible listening. Since their partnership, Joy's success has grown further than she could have ever imagined. She has recently celebrated her 10th UK No.1 book on the Amazon 'Best Sellers' chart, with her 9th instalment in the Jackman & Evans series, Solace House. Joy boasts a staggering estimated total over 3.4 million copies sold worldwide, and became a short-listed nominee at the British Book Awards, 2021.
The Jackman & Evans Series by Joy Ellis is definitely one that would make a great TV series as it has all the ingredients to keep you engrossed through each and every investigation/instalment. DI Jackman and DS Marie Evans, and team- are well-developed and dynamic characters who really bring the series to life. They make a great team, which makes it easy to invest in them and the outcome of their investigations. I also appreciated how the characters continued to develop and grow over the course of the series. The stories are, each, great thrilling mysteries full of intriguing details, clever touches, twists and turns, suspense, crime and investigation, and more. If you love a good mystery, then this is definitely a series you will want to check out.
The series contains: -The Murderer’s Son (Book #1) -Their Lost Daughters (Book #2) -The Fourth Friend (Book #3) -The Guilty Ones (Book #4) -The Stolen Boys (Book #5) -The Patient Man (Book #6) -They Disappeared (Book #7) -The Night Thief (Book #8) -Solace House (Book #9) -The River’s Edge (Book #10)
The twists and turns and complex planning make this a series to remember. Each book is distinct with separate problems for Jackman and his Sarge Marie along with their crew to solve.
However, running through each book is the constant threat of a cold-blooded killer who kills often. His end game is to kill both Jackman and Marie before he leaves to wreck havoc elsewhere.
I liked the remote farm family Lorimor headed by the widow Rachel. Each of her grown children has some kind of problems but they all protect the family. They figure heavily in the final chapters of the book.
I started with the first set (books 1 to 3) of Joy Ellis’s Detectives Jackman & Ellis. I enjoyed watching the author develop her craft, storyline, and characters. Her last book, #6, is pure genius on her part. I couldn’t put the book down! I suffered with her characters, became enraged by the evil, and cheered when the battle of wits was won by the good guys in the white hats!! Enjoy!!!
Wow, this was a brilliant trio of British crime thrillers set in the fens with DI Jackman and DS Evans leading a team towards solving disturbing murders, disappearances and other happenings.
I liked how the team gels, the developing characters and relationships.
I have reviewed each story separately so will just say they were well-written, fast-paced, with plenty of action, tension and suspense.
Loved each and every book as the story emerged and the plot thickened. Key players of course but entertained with very interesting side stories! Great ending of the series of three great reads. I thourgoughly enjoyed and had trouble putting each book down! Please enjoy all of them!!
Loved these books, the relationship between Jackman and Evans and the whole police team is compelling and believable. Action packed with twists and turns all the way through. So sad I’ve finished them
Three really enjoyable books. The Jackman & Evans series is my favourite series by Joy Ellis, and the ones with Alistair Ashcroft are particularly good. That being said I'm happy that he has been caught. Though I doubt anyone has heard the last of him!
Another example of wonderful and exciting stories by Joy Ellis about one of her Fenland police teams. Wonderful writing with twists and turns all the way
