The first anthology from Horns and Rattles Press, Fish Gather to Listen is a collection of short horror, each with the common theme of water. They lurk. They drown. They watch. What swims beneath the surface? Combining both flash fiction and short stories, the collection has a range from starfish to merfolk. From sharks to coral. Themes of grief and hunger. What draws you to the sea? What pulls...
A memorable collection from a dynamic new press thematically unified around that most primal of fears: deep, murky water occupied by things unknown. The grotesque swims parallel to the lyrical in Fish Gather to Listen. There is much here to disturb and delight, often simultaneously.
You would think that if you read one scary mermaid story you've read them all but you'd be wrong. Despite this being a repetitive theme in this collection there aren't any duds. What a well thought out thematic gathering of tales with horrors of the deep and wet. Some absolute gems in here. My only gripe is that if you want to read horror stories you shouldn't he needing trigger warnings, but that's the society we live in today.
Beautiful horror curated by talented editors of indie horror press Horns and Rattles.
Bitter Becomes the Fields is their most recent release (just came out) although not on Goodreads. Contributed to the kickstarter and glad I did, very good work with theme of flora and fauna.
