Book number two did not disappoint. I love Ambrose and Cedric and the rest of the gang so much! I can just see myself having dinner with them and going on crazy adventures.
I was thrilled-and relieved-to find that book #2 in this series was as delicious (pun intended-what I wouldn't give to attend one of their dinner parties!) as the first. I am seriously in love with every character, every wild and crazy plot twist and all of the gorgeous imagery. I found myself laughing uncontrollably at times-to the annoyance of my sleeping husband. I hope the Friday Street gang hangs together with their adventures for many many years and I hope that Hollywood comes calling to make it all come alive on screen!
From the Old Bell Hotel to cozy Tanglefoot Farm at Plum Pudding Lane to Surrey Hills Village to the Cotswolds to plush London homes to a Scottish castle, another entertaining British mystery from start to finish with the eclectic Friday Street Murder Mystery Team family.
There's something about the characters and the lovely writing style that makes me want to dwell in this series forever. I don't even care whodunit, I just want to follow their madcap antics as they figure it out. Highly recommended!
This is the second book in the Friday Street Murder Mysteries. Two of the main characters, who are twins, are so funny that you laugh out loud. They are two brothers who are former M16 intelligent agents during the Cold War. They are also amazing cooks who live at Tanglewood Farms in the Surrey Hills. They have assembled a group of former and present agents to solve mysteries. So fun to read.
An extraordinary (& unbelievable) small community of spies, intelligence operatives and the like, with unlimited access, skills, abilities ……and finances. As with all my friends, who like murder mysteries, I like a fighting chance of solving the mystery before the author reveals all - and in this book the key clue is only revealed a few pages before the end, which doesn’t give the reader a fair chance at all. I’d almost got there but without the clue, I couldn’t tie up the ends - and when that’s happened occasionally in the past, I haven’t read that author again. It’s not that the author fooled me, just that the reader wasn’t given the key clue (and never the characters came by it) until very late.
I would have finished reading sooner but I kept stopping to look up recipes. Lemon drizzle. Treacle tart. Fish pie. And I have queued up Brigadoon to watch soon. These characters are the most fun, quirky, lovable intelligent people I loved them in the first book. They didn’t disappoint me this time. I pretty much figured out who did it—but not all the other details about the ones who didn’t do it. But that didn’t matter. I read this for the atmosphere —the descriptions of the food and clothes and gardens. It’s rich. I think I will reread the first book in this series while I wait for book 3.
2025 bk 18. What a fun sequel. The Friday Street group is back again - this time to solve a five year old murder case. The victim, the husband of Charlie's best friend in college. With a cast of suspects as interesting as the members of the group and the introduction of Verity's brother, well, I read this straight through. When I finished it, I realized there were fire trucks on my street - and firefighters were fighting a fire at a house just down the street. That is how absorbing this story is. (No one was injured in the fire, thank goodness.) I recommend this mystery series, especially if you like quirky characters.
I LOVED the first Friday Street Murder, but this one dragged. If I read that the crew was "out of clues" one more time, I'd have thrown defenestrated my Kindle. The plot was good, the food descriptions and off-beat characters excellent, but not a lot of new stuff from the first. We know Charlie idolizes Verity, we don't need to be reminded every other chapter. This book could have used an editor to cut it down by about fifty pages. That be said, it was still amusing and I am not set off the series.
2 1/2 stars. This was a fun book with lots of delicious food and wine described. There are good characters that are quirky and make you smile. I hope I have this much spunk at that age. My complaint come that the author doesn't give you all the clues you need to solve the crime yourself. Kind of a pet peeve.
"Easier Dead Than Done," is another highly entertaining and hilarious mystery brough to you by the Friday Street Murder Mystery team. The characters are interesting, the plot twists are many, and the entertainment value is through the roof. I can't wait to read the next book in this series by Russell Cooper.
Charming people, eccentric people, wicked people - the ingredients for a good mystery. And wonder descriptions of food. Oh, and some murder to solve too.
This was such a fun read that I just sat and read all day yesterday. 4.25. The characters , the food, the clothes, and solving the cold case murder was very well done. They do have some wild adventures led on by Verity and almost as wild by Charlie.
Such a fun read. What a group of absolutely delightful characters. You will love each one and that goes to the bad guys, too. Be sure to start with the first in the series. It helps to explain the characters. Waiting for number 3 with high anticipation!
Having fallen in love with the characters in Friday Street Murder/book 1, I dove right into this book when it arrived. I read it in 3 days because I could NOT put it down. Russell Cooper delivered! This is an awesome must read! Now, I am anxiously waiting book 3!!!
Easier Dead than Done awesome follow-up to Friday Street
Loved every minute of book number 2. Can't wait for book number 3. Great follow-up to Friday Street Murders. Verity, Cedric and Ambrose are characters that will live forever. They are hilarious!
This book was just as much fun as the first in this series. Kept me guessing as I jumped from one character to another in my quest to find the killer. All is not as it seems. Can't wait for the next one.
Good second in the series with the mystery just as convoluted and filled with red herrings as the first one. The characters are even more quirky and lovable. The adventures are just as wild.
