When the gilded skull of the notorious pirate Ruby Redd is stolen from a hidden treasure, a dark force rises, threatening the entire kingdom.
An unlikely crew vows to end it... Emmi, who possesses a kiss of death and has been imprisoned for nearly a decade for crimes she didn't intend to commit, is shocked when she's offered the opportunity to leave her prison and sail alongside Fynn, the kingdom's prince, and Stryker, a mischievous pirate, on a voyage to retrieve the skull.
A challenging journey awaits. Finding the gilded skull, the source of the curse bound in bone, is only the beginning. The voyage proves challenging as more details emerge and secrets are revealed, threatening the success of their mission.
This book was SO, SO good. Breck Suzanne will definitely become an auto-buy author! There were both predictable moments and unpredictable moments, and the characters & worldbuilding were fantastic. The writing is smooth and easy to read, which I loved. All in all, I'm very excited to read the sequel!
I absolutely loved this! It was such a fun, fast paced read! Inspired by Pirates of the Caribbean but so original! I loved Fynn and Emmi's relationship. I loved the friendships that were formed with Stryker and Orther. I received an ARC for this book which was a blessing and a curse! Now I have to wait for book two!! Thankfully though, my curse is nothing like Emmi's 😉. If you love found families, adventure, romance and swashbuckling pirates, you'll love this!
Wow! To Kiss a Prince is inspired by Pirates of the Caribbean and I am highly impressed. It was fast paced with plenty of twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat and highly intrigued. The dynamic between Fynn and Emmi was epic, like true Life & Death balance.
Emmi unfortunately doesn't remember anything that happened before the hanging of Ruby Redd. But 10 years later, she's still held prisoner in a cage in the basement of the castle. All because she's cursed with the kiss of death. Anyone her lips touched would instantly die on the spot. For years she was alone and forgotten until one day a stranger came to visit. He came day after day bringing her some food and water till one day he didn't come back. Then the king's guard came to collect her and she was to meet the prince. But little did she know that her stranger was the Prince. Now he discloses all the information his father collected on the curse of Ruby Redd's skull. Apparently someone stole her skull from a sacred ground and unleashed a curse that both him and Emmi are involved in. Now they must embrace this adventure together and see what awaits them.
Emmi has gone through a whirlwind of obstacles. She's been a prisoner since the age of 10 and now she's traveling with the Prince on a mission. His touch provides comfort to her and she feels a pull to him that she doesn't want to fight. But where there is death there must be life! Breck does an outstanding job with plot twists and that cliffhanger was not okay! But all in all I can't wait for book 2 to find out what happens next in their adventure. Thank you, Breck, for an ARC copy of To Kiss A Prince!!
Let’s start with the good... a pirate fantasy is always a good time, and the guided skull was a really interesting concept and prop. The story was just interesting enough to keep me going, and I will likely read the sequel at some point to close the loop.
And now the less good… I felt like the world building wasn’t very detailed and felt random/rushed - lots of arbitrary info dumping with little to no prior background. It seemed like a lot of the plot was this way as well. Rather than the characters making important discoveries themselves, it seems like the plot was frequently moved along by other characters info dumping through dialogue. The story didn’t seem to set up or build up to these “discoveries” either. Again, seems a bit random. I wasn’t super interested in the romance either. Emmi spent ten years in a prison cell, and Fynn is the only man that she has seen throughout her whole sentence. He’s the only man she’s ever “known” and the first she really gets to know upon her release, and he wastes no time in pursuing her, which comes off as a little creepy and calculated to me. I’ll be on team Stryker for book 2 should I choose to continue!
All in all, I didn’t love this book but I didn’t totally hate it, and I am kind of curious as to how the plot that was set up at the end of the book will resolve itself in book 2.
I did receive this as an ARC copy, but my review is 100% my own.
To Kiss A Prince was heavily inspired by Pirates of the Caribbean, but is rather unique in its own way. From the moment you begin this story until the very end, you're enchanted by those interwoven together via a curse. I would have easily read it in one sitting, but one must always "adult." You can see where the author's inspiration comes from, but she has a way of twisting and bending the story until it is beautifully her own. The ending is a cliffhanger, so I am already craving the second part of the duet.
"Death, it seemed, was merely a singular act in the grand play of life. A means to the next scene."
This duet is definitely worth a read. It is Pirates of the Caribbean inspired and Emmi and Fynn’s story is so cute. The found family relationships that are a part of the story are so great for the character development and the love story aspect between Flynn and Emmi does not distract from the bigger mystery plot of the curse they are trying to figure out and end. Both of these books are a very quick read, I read both within 2 days, but they can easily be a one day easy read. Definitely a great YA fantasy/adventure romance.
This book was phenomenal. A prince, a pirate and a girl with the kiss of death. I absolutely freaking loved it. It was full of adventure and magic with twists and turns to keep you guessing all the way through. I absolutely love this author. She has become one of my favorite writers of all time. I highly recommend this perfect pirate romantasy.
I loved this book. I can not wait for the 2nd book. I grew up going to Disneyland and Pirates of the Caribbean was my favorite. I can see the parts of the ride in my head within this book and I love it. Even if you have never been on the ride it is an amazing book. You will love it!
The storyline line was great and I loved following the twists of the curse and magic. The love story line was a little unbelievable for me, I wanted a little more from it or a little more tension. Maybe it’s just cause a I love a love triangle and was rooting for it so hard and never for it…. Also, the 10 YEARS spent in prison was a little much a way too quickly washed over.
A fabulous introductory novel by Breck Suzanne. From the first word to the end this action packed romance will leave you wanting more. The story of Fynn and Emmi will have you pushing for a miracle wanting desperately for them to live their happily ever after. To Kiss a Prince is a masterpiece, fans of Pirates of the Caribbean will be left pondering what greatness awaits them in book two.
A must read for pirate lovers! Can't wait to read the second book! Such a cliffhanger! The twists I wasn't expecting either. Highly recommend this book for all adventure lovers 😍
I heard this was Pirates if the Caribbean inspired and that’s all I needed to know. This was such a fun adventure story. The undead army was creepy AF. Can’t wait to see how the story concludes in book 2! 😱
I loved this book!! It wa phenomenal and I heard it had pirates so that’s all I needed to know to pick up the book and read it. It was fun and full of action it had me hooked from the start.
To Kiss a Prince is a fun, high seas adventure sure to thrill lovers of Pirates of the Caribbean. That's what hooked me! This was a quick, easy read that I enjoyed on the flight to Kauai, and I'll say the whole tropical seas thrills and adventure certainly put me in the right mood for visiting the Hawaiian isles. And I'm always up for a "curse that needs to be broken" story. The FMC has a kiss of death curse, so it created some tension between her and the love interest...until another twist comes!
Overall, I enjoyed this book, and if you love a swoony romance on the high seas with a quest to break a curse, give this book a read.
