Volpe Reale: Royal Fox

Rate this book
BILLIE
As you know, I’m Billie Mahoney…actually Wilhelmina Agnese Mahoney-Volpella, half-Irish, half-Italian, a fox-shifter (yup, totally owning it), mated and bonded to three hot-as-feck wolf-shifters—and apparently a royal. Whatever the feck that means.

After completing the mating bond with Xander, Jax, and Ethan we should be all good, right? Based on what I’ve learned through books and movies it’s the getting together that’s the challenging part. The four of us? We’re totally bonded…so rainbows, unicorns, and hot steamy sex is what our future holds.

Eh, maybe not. That bonding sealed the deal, and now we get to figure out how this relationship will actually work. But it will work. None of us have any past trauma that could affect how we are with one another. Well, some trauma. Fine, more than some. But at least we’ve all had healthy, stable relationships before. Err…that’s not entirely accurate. We’ll be fine. It’s all good.

And with the bonds completed no need to worry about Xander’s father. He’ll totally back down and let us be. He’s not an egomaniac obsessed with controlling his son’s life. Yeah, that’s a lie, can’t even pretend otherwise.

So what if this is the first official bonding between a non-wolf-shifter and wolf-shifters in over twenty something years? No one will care. And me being a royal…we’ll keep that shit a secret, on the DL. Just need to get good grades, play soccer, hang out with our friends, and have mind-blowing sex. Easy. Like, child please, we got this.

Good but not as good as book one…

“Volpe Reale: Royal Fox, book two in the Billie Mahoney series is sadly just not as good as book one was. I’m holding out hope for book three considering how the “pieces” fell in this book, and hoping book three delivers on all of the promise from book two, because book two (with a few exceptions) was kind of a let down.

**SPOILERS**

Billie, Xander, Jax and Ethan’s relationship is now out in the open. Among the shifters everyone knows that they are true mates, and among the human, they’re known to have an unusual poly relationship which is judged a lot on campus.

The High Council of Shifters come to the town ready to intercede and “pass judgement” on Xander’s father, William, the Alpha of the wolf pack (he’s been violently abusing his power and position). Along with the council come a few new faces, one in particular had me curious and definitely interested in more…to see where it would go. I’m talking about Alessandro, the ROYAL FOX SHIFTER that was basically engaged to Billie when she was but a little girl, and had thought her dead but never stopped looking for her.

Liz Simmons makes it pretty clear early on in their introduction that Billie and Alessandro are not True-Mates (won’t lie, that sort of disappointed me because I actually really like Sandro’s character). BUT she also makes it clear that Billie and little fox have a strong special connection toward Sandro, one that isn’t really familial but also not on par with the true-mate bond. All this made it actually difficult to gauge their budding “relationship.” Was Sandro going to be friend zoned, even though he’s moving to be near Billie, Carrie’s her photo with him and clearly feels things for her (but knows she’s not his true mate as well). Or is Billie going to start feeling romantic toward Sandro in the future? It was a little off, and one of the reasons I gave this book 3 stars and not 5 like I wanted to. Because I genuinely liked the new characters Simmons introduced, but I didn’t feel as if she wrote them into this second book well. It just fell flat. And the ending was a HUGE HUGE disappointment, no real cliffy, and definitely a let down. It just sort of ended. Like Billie and Ethan have a moment sharing past pain, they hold each other, understand one another and boom, books over?! It’s a head scratcher.

There was very little action in this book and very little soccer and sports (which I missed) because it seems to be part of the characters ingrained natures…they’re awesome soccer players. The book focused mainly on the arrival of the high council, their shock over the state of the largest werewolf pack in NA, and Billie learning slowly that with another Royal (Alessandro) her strength is magnified.

In addition *sigh* what is with the m/m and the m/m/m??? It honestly was completely unnecessary!! If the guys had been introduced as bisexual, or shown any inkling toward liking the same sense it would’ve made sense! But to have Xander and Jax and Ethan touching intimately, making out and getting prepared to have sex with one another was quite frankly odd, and came out of nowhere!!! There soul focus should be on Billie, it was in book one, it was in most of book two, but still Simmons dropped more and more scenes of intimacy between the guys, and mentions how the true mate bond has made these guys (who self admittedly NEVER LOOKED AT OTHER GUYS SEXUALLY) suddenly interested in having sex with each other. Not ALL RH HAVE TO CONTAIN M/M. I’m not against it, but it just seems that every RH lately has m/m in it, like it’s a requirement to the story…when it 100% is not!! This book and the series would be just as good, if not better without any m/m and the concentration focused FULLY ON BILLIE- heck it’s HER STORY!!! I’m not actually looking forward to the rest of the series too much if Simmons continues down the m/m/m route and decides to make all the guys bisexual, not to mention Sandro…or Enzo, who knows who else?? The plot is well developed as is, and it feels as if the m/m aspect was REALLY forced and “fake.” Thrown in because the author thought that was how she could please everyone.

With the lack of action, the NOT enough scenes of Alessandro and Billie (to see what they are to one another) the guys GROWING SEXUAL RELATIONSHIP with each other and Billie’s dialogue feeling less free and fun, book two really just did not satisfy like book one. I truly hope book 3 has more Alessandro in it, more of the guys being all cave-wolf on BILLIE AND ONLY BILLIE. I’d like the sex, even if they are all involved in a group setting to be just about her (although I know that won’t happen) eventually it’s going to be far more than the guys merely touching and making out, I know it *sigh* - this offering left a lot to be desired :(

Stated as mfmm but not accurate

I saw the mm coming in the 1st book, and then mm more pronounced in the 2nd. Dont mark books as mfmm is it contains mm content. We as readers have the right to decide what we read and what not. Wasted my time and money on this series

I loved the first book. Second book I was skipping a lot. Why? It was just smut after smut. I love smut don't get me wrong but I want plot. The smut was interrupting the plot. I felt I had to skip a lot to get back to the story line. If you love smut and don't care about plot this will be great for you. But if you like a well balanced book with plenty of plot/storyline then this won't be for you as it's very heavy on the smut.

It also requires editing. There's a smut scene where he spreads her clit open and I thought this must be a male author. But I've decided it's lack of editing. There were other mistakes that led me to that belief.

But let's get to what had me rage quitting this series. The SA. The quote unquote good guys just stand around watching the crazy barely alpha SA a young woman. Billie finally yells at the pack for not doing anything. Excuse me? The same pack that had their life source leached by the psycho alpha?? Whereas you supposed good guys stand there at full strength and do nothing but allow it to happen and watch???

That scene honestly never needed to happen. It did nothing for the plot. He'd already proven himself to be a depraved alpha who was using ill begotten means to stay in power. All that scene did was ruin Billie in my eyes along with her mates. Xander should have killed his dad and taken over as alpha before that ever happened. I'll never believe he's a good Alpha if he can just stand by witnessing what's happening to his pack and do nothing.

Ugh

The first one was just so good!... I don't get it. This one has it's good points, the first parts really, but dude, the angst. Ugh. It just gets so old and tiring. Especially since it's so stupid. Like Billy and Ethan both lost their parents as toddlers and that's sad but, the f*ck. They are both constantly crying to the point of balling, talking about all their darkness, I thought this was because they were tortured or raped or something as children with terrible guardians but no it's all because their parents died and they feel guilty about it, like 20 years later. It's just insane. And that last chapter we're their "darkness" and "pure agony" and all the rest of their dramatic pain is let out, it's just so ridiculous. Like it's been getting more and more annoying how emotion they all are getting, worse and worse with each chapter, but then it's just coalescing to this tornado of drama and angst over just about nothing... It's just so frustrating. I mean if you're really really really into angst and you just love it in any and every form then yeah this might be for you, but otherwise dude it's just annoying and so so frustrating. Like what happened to the fun fox and athlete and pranks with the hot reverse harem? Your parents died as a child. That sucks. It really does. But dude. Dude.

I actually only found this series right before book 2 released, and I have to say I love seeing the world through Billie’s eyes - she is fierce, quirky, and just bad@ss :) This story picks up right after the end of book 1. Billie and the guys are trying to figure out their life together, deal with the harassment and prejudice towards their relationship, and also adjust to some new people added to their life. I love Jax, Ethan, and Xander. They are awesome. I also love that Billie has some great female friends. I’m intrigued to see how Sandro will fit into Billie’s life. Great addition to Billie’s story - the 🔥 🔥 has definitely increased compared to book 1. This story has steam, revelations, betralyals, and twists. It made me laugh at times, and nearly cry at others. I’ll definitely be looking for book 3!

3.5🌟

I have mixed feelings about this book, on the one hand we we see their relationship grow and they come together to deal with external threats, on the other it dragged. I'm also a little annoyed at the author as she quite clearly states it is an mfmm when it is not, the mm isn't full on in this book but it is developing. However as someone who generally steers away from mm books, I will say this is well done, the relationship between the mmc is developing organically and there is still very much a focus on the fmc. Will I read the next book? Honestly I'm not sure, and it's not to do with the mm, it's more that towards the end I couldn't help checking exactly how much more I had to go, which honestly isn't a good sign.

Great

This was a great second installment to Billie's story, a lot darker and sadder than book 1 but still with those moments ot humour sprinkled in. The pack goes through a LOT in this book, but their love and commitment to each other never once falters. I absolutely adore this series. It is so rare to find a series, especially a rh series, where the core characters are in a healthy, loving relationship with ALL the angst coming from OUTSIDE of that relationship. This is my unicorn series. I wish more books focused on loving relationships and less on making the characters have to 'earn' their hea.

good but I don’t know where it is going

It is still full of quirkiness. Billie is still full of life and funny all the time. Xander, Jaxson and Ethan have established themselves and their feelings to Billie but there are still things that threaten to pull them apart.

The royalty thing I kind of saw coming in book 1 but then you add Alessandro. I really like him but there is no true mate pull but there is chemistry and there is trust and he is aging the trust of Ethan, Xander and Jaxson. I don’t know if I am going to like where that storyline goes.

I definitely liked book 1 a lot better. There were some side plots that came out of nowhere and didn’t finish playing out so hopefully they get tied up in the next book.

Still really liked this book and the storyline as a whole.

so awesome

This book was just as good as the first and it gets even more emotional and endearing. I wish I had waited until the series was complete because now I find myself despondent over having to wait months for the next book lol some heavy stuff is laid bare from their pasts and some new people join the story. I was so sad we didn’t get to visit Southie in this book but next book Its coming lol also I do kinda hope Alessandro either ends up as a mate bond or finds his true mate because that sweet man needs a happy ending. Oh and the emerging M/M aspect is delicious

Excellent

This is a deep thinking series. It allows the characters to explore their suppressed emotional feelings while providing a provocative storyline. PNR, reverse harem, fated mates with diverse shifters and cultures. I'm hoping the next in the series comes out soon. One small distraction is rampant in books 1 & 2. The characters seem to add "yea" to the end of their sentences. They are portrayed as being from Massachusetts, not Manchester.

Well done, emotionally charged, enjoyable to read

This story has been so expressive with emotions and how anyone can change how they react to such difficult topics but also gets you laughing at the things the characters do. Thank you for these books can't wait till book 3 comes out.

I really love this series and can’t wait for the next book. Billie is one of my favorite FMCs, and the different relationships she has with her guys (and their relationships with each other) are really well done.

Boring and repetitive. Found myself skim reading it, so called it a day. I won't be reading any further books in the series.

3 really

I've given it 4 stars on Amazon, but it's more like a 3 on Goodreads for me because some things really irritated me personally. Like, some of the parts that were supposed to be emotionally charged seemed more like a word salad to me - the words were beautiful but kinda meaningless at the same time? I don't know if my ND mind is just too literal, but I spent too much time writing 'But what does that even mean?!' notes.
