Worthy | Embracing Your Identity in Christ Study

We allow many things to define our identity and relationship status, career plans, and passions. But none of these truly satisfy. Relationships, jobs, and passions can change. They do not last into eternity. When we allow these pursuits to define who we are, we navigate life insecure and longing to know our true selves.

Worthy is a 4-week study on identity in Christ. It explores the titles we have through our relationship with child, heir, slave, and saint. Jesus Christ alone is worthy to bear these titles. In our fallen condition, our only identity is rebellious sin. But, by His grace, Jesus unites us to Himself, covers us in His image, and bestows worth to our fallenness.

This Bible study is one I've been really looking forward to!

I recently finished When Fear Meets Faith by the same company, and compared to that one, this one is chunkier, lasts a week longer, and has on average one more page of reading when compared to the other one.

This one is also a bit heavier on scripture reading, which is perfect if your goal is to consume more of the Bible. For me, this book took me longer than four weeks to get through. I like to sit with whatever scriptures referenced for each day, write them down (most of the time) to increase my retention rate, and to glance at while writing in the weekly summary pages. Life's circumstances got in the way of me reading it every day. But cool fact: with your purchase of this book, you get the free digital copy via a code for their app so you can read it on the go. I prefer the paper copy but it was useful for me a couple of days when I was on the go.

Week 2, Day 5 the authors mentioned that scripture defines administration of the sacraments and intercession as the responsibility of church leaders, and... I've gotta be honest, I am not sure where they pulled this from. I do not say that in a condescending way—I am more puzzled than anything. In what I read of Jesus commanding us to take communion, the direction given is simply: "And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, 'This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.'" Luke 22:19 ESV. I do not see where this has to be administered by church officials — this seems like an unnecessary load. I could be wrong. I definitely don't know everything 😂

As for the intercession part, we are all directed to pray without ceasing in the New Testament. Perhaps the inference they are trying to make is in reference to the church leaders coming to pray for the sick among their congregations (James 5:14). I do feel like it could've been worded a bit better, to clarify that it is not just the job of church leadership.

There is also a section where the authors say: "We follow the pattern of Jesus, who experienced the utmost persecution for our sin yet never sinned Himself. Assuming a lowly posture, we take the role of a slave and a servant. We submit to unjust oppressors while calling them to repentance and boldly declaring our love for Jesus." Pg. 102. Submit seems like the wrong word to use here, in my opinion. I understand the spirit of what they are saying but ultimately our total submission is only to the Father. Also! Sometimes we are not to submit to unjust oppressors. The ironic thing is that while sometimes we are called to experience persecution, the Bible is full of people who went against the grain and did not submit to evil people (even Jesus... remember when they tried to make him king? He didn't submit to them, he escaped them 🤷‍♀️). Will there be times when the Bride is called to yield her life for the sake of the Lamb? Yes. This section reads like pacifism and... I'm not sure we need to embrace that ideology wholesale. We were also called to resist evil, at times, and not just throw our hands up and say, "I submit to whatever unjust thing is happening!"

I struggled to put words to why this Bible study was so hard for me to get through. I read another review and they mentioned the idea just felt not fully fleshed out and even the title of this book seemed off, like the title should've been "Identity" as that was the main focus, and not being "Worthy." I agree (and thank you to the reviewer who put words to my feelings on this!) The whole concept just feels like it jumps around, and if you bought this book because you struggle with feeling worthy in Christ due to shame or something else, you may not find what you are looking for. If you struggle with who you are as a person, knowing what God defines you as now that you are in the kingdom, then this may be the Bible study for you!

I got some good things out of this study, and at times, the right words came at the right time for me. But I just feel like I could've been done a little bit better honestly.

3 stars.

This Bible study is from The Daily Grace Co. I cannot say enough wonderful things about their Bible studies. This was a 4 week daily study that looks at embracing your identity in Christ. The world tells us a lot of things about “identity” and how we are to claim it. This looks at justification, sanctification, and glorification. Your salvation transforms your identity. There is a past, present, and future that shapes your life. We mustn’t forget the Holy Word and shaping our lives as a saint.

Not my favorite study by Daily Grace Co…The concept is great but it felt a little rushed and wasn’t as well fleshed out/focused as many other studies. Also this is a little nit picky, but I’m not sure why they chose the title, “Worthy,” as this theme is not really explored much at all in the book. The key topic is identity, so it just felt a little disjointed. Not as woven together as many of there other studies.

The weekly recap Qs are the same every week.

Instead, my online Bible study chose to talk about the weekly questions.

Good, not as deep as some big name studies, but sometimes you need a lighter study so you can mostly keep up with the homework!.

Hard copy.
I hand wrote all the referenced Bible verses into the margins and notes sections of the book.
I absolutely LOVED this study.
It helped me, during some shaky and confusing times, to feel more secure in my identity in Christ.
I would recommend this to anyone!

Excellent for our youth group girls’ monthly Bible study - we just did 2-3 days each month. I appreciated all of the scripture and insights into what it meant to have Christ’s identity. The phrase “union with Christ” was new to me! 😊

The Worthy Bible Study is powerful, clear, and deeply encouraging. Each week helped me understand my identity in Christ in a fresh way, and the reflections drew me closer to Jesus. I highly recommend it for anyone wanting a meaningful, gospel-centered study.

My cousin and I led this as a young adult Bible study over the summer! We had 8 people total! All easy to understand and perfect for this age group. I highly recommend for all ages, but again. It was perfect for a young adult study.
