The High Court of the Coffee Bean returns with a sassy, wicked streak.
Months after the deadly assassins-turned-baristas left the Four Corners of Ever behind for good, Doom comes knocking at Mor Trisencor's door. And it's wearing stilettos.
When the Fairy Post gets an unexpected, grand following in the human realm for its vintage feel and whimsical words, Mor gets busier than ever typing out articles, following up on leads of fairy mischief, and everything else that goes along with being a faeborn reporter. But his heavy workload comes to a screeching halt when he spots someone in the human realm that shouldn't be there—an old foe of his. One he thought he would never see again. One he'd prayed to the sky deities that he wouldn't cross paths with after the day Mor abandoned the Shadow Army, leaving a trail of flames and destruction in his wake. For the first time since the Fairy Post was published, the newspaper gets put on hold and Mor goes hunting.
Mor can think of nothing else but stopping this foe before ripples of doom begin to stir up the human realm.
Violet Miller is a journalist with a mysterious past her amnesia forbids her from remembering. But when she gets let go from her job at the most prestigious news station in the city, her unexplained past becomes the least of her problems. She thinks it's all over for her as a journalist, until she sees a job posting for a secretary position at a niche, laughable "old school style" newspaper called the Fairy Post.
The day Violet shows up at Mor's house—or, creepy, dark cathedral is more like it—is the day that everything changes for her. Before Violet even has a chance to ask about the job, she’s mistakenly marked as Mor’s lover by his “enemies” and she finds herself in the crosshairs of a battle of inhuman creatures who’d rather “stab first and ask questions later.”
This marks the beginning of a love-hate relationship (mostly hate) between a fae assassin born of the Shadows, and a lipstick-wearing, mascara wielding human born to be in the spotlight.
While reading this second installment of the High Court of the Coffee Bean series, you may find yourself craving macaroons, listening to the wind for signs of fairy magic, and wishing you had a “creepy, dark, creaking, abandoned cathedral” of your own to call home.
Jennifer Kropf spent her college years bored to death (nearly) in marketing and advertising classes, and graduated only to discover once and for all that her true passion is telling stories. She lives amidst lush Ontario farmland with her husband and three kids, reads obsessively, and writes even more obsessively. She thinks tea is gross and coffee is great and secretly wishes Peter Pan will show up on some cool summer evening and ask if she wants to visit Neverland.
🖤🩷🖤🩷🖤🩷🖤🩷🖤🩷🖤🩷🖤🩷🖤🩷 *screams incoherently* MOR. VIOLET. THIS BOOK.
I NEED BOOK THREE RIGHT NOW!!!
Jennifer Kropf never disappoints. Sincerely, Secretary of Doom was such a whimsical, light-hearted read. It was chock full of humor, naughty fae, horribly baked muffins, and one creepy cathedral.
This book made me laugh so many times. Guys, the amount of times I slapped my hand over my mouth because of the things these fae did should be illegal. I'll forever love this quartet of fairies. One can only hope Doom comes knocking on my door one day... iykyk.
🗡✨ 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 ✨🗡 ˏˋ°•*⁀➷ I loved the creepy cathedral home Mor lived in!! Ahh, it just fit him so perfectly, and was the best backdrop for this story!! ˏˋ°•*⁀➷ I adored Mor; he was so lethal yet so tender with Violet. He was powerful yet such a mush! The way he just melts at the sight of her freckles... makes me melt, too ;) Such a mysterious figure, the one who lurks in the shadows, trying to escape a past he's tried so hard to hide... I'M A SUCKER FOR MORALLY GREY VILLAINS, OK?! ˏˋ°•*⁀➷ I liked how this book further developed Mor's relationship with Cress. It showed how far back their friendship went, and them having each others' backs was so sweet 🥹 We also got lots of cameos of Kate, Lily and no-shame Shayne, which I was really happy about! Dranian?... mm, not so much. I wish I knew more about him; though I desperately need to see him smile at least once, lol. But their bond with each other was so endearing, and their loyalty and protection was just SFSDJFS AHH GIMME MORE!!!! ˏˋ°•*⁀➷ Honestly, the world building was a little lackluster, but I'm not mad. This book made up for it in so many other ways, and just had such a well-paced plot. ˏˋ°•*⁀➷ I love how Kropf hinted at each characters' backstories in WtFC, and then creates individual books for each fae; each story is so incredibly unique and comical in its own way. Seeing Mor confront his past with the Shadow Army and his childhood nemesis, Luc, was executed so well! The concept of a nine-tailed fox was very intriguing; all the elements of the fae world, from the North Corners to the Dark, air slipping, dream slipping... very cool ideas! ˏˋ°•*⁀➷ The romance was very clean and as sweet as sugar! No spice in this book! I loved how they each ignored their feelings for each other at first but fell head in in the end; such a magical romance! *melts* ˏˋ°•*⁀➷ The words 'faeborn' and 'moseyed,' WERE USED IN LITERALLY EVERY OTHER LINE! IT WAS DRIVING ME INSANE!! ˏˋ°•*⁀➷ THE ENDING WAS SO GOOD!! Definitely did NOT expect that, but wow... Luc sure is full of twists and turns. But the extra chapter did set up the next book perfectly! Can't wait to read it 🤗 🖤🩷🖤🩷🖤🩷🖤🩷🖤🩷🖤🩷🖤🩷🖤🩷
☕🍃 𝐂𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐏𝐎𝐕 & 𝐂𝐖𝐬 ☕🍃 - Mentions of sky deities and 'praying to them' for luck. - Romance was clean; just some kisses and a little physical touch. At one point, the FMC admires the bare-chested MMC as she bandages him, but it was handled appropriately. Other times she comments about his muscles and physique, but there was no spice in the book. - Magic, enchantments - A little bit of death (not graphic) - I would recommend this to readers 14+ years old 🖤🩷🖤🩷🖤🩷🖤🩷🖤🩷🖤🩷🖤🩷🖤🩷

🌰 𝐈𝐧 𝐚 𝐍𝐮𝐭𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐥 (𝐎𝐫 𝐚 𝐆𝐨𝐥𝐝-𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐞): 🌰 Sincerely, Secretary of Doom was such an adventure to read! It left me breathless from laughing and made me wish I had my own dark, gloomy cathedral with burning candles to call my humble abode. It had optimal 🍂 fall vibes 🍂 with absolutely scrumptious desserts and coffee-drinks. I highly recommend reading this with a whipped mocha in a plush armchair by the fire, snuggled up with a pink-yarn sweater (to protect you from the evil fairies, of course). I would recommend this book to lovers of rom-coms & fantasy, as this genre-bending book will fill you up with all the good vibes; with warmth, daydreams about fae baristas, and coffee cravings. Or perhaps a sudden revulsion for muffins 🤭
Now, if you read this review and decided not to read this book because it doesn't seem like "your thing"...
...think again, or you just mIgHt find yourself on the streets with no memories, and a pile of pebbles in your pockets.

⚠ WARNING: This book is highly addictive. High King of the Coffee Bean Court, Shayne, *may* have enchanted it, so don't be surprised when symptoms of wanting more and more of Jennifer Kropf's books appear. ⚠["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
the romance, magic, plot, humor.... 👌🏼 THIS WAS EVEN BETTER THAN BOOK ONE, IF THATS EVEN POSSIBLE. I NEED BOOK THREE RN!! the "warm beasts milk" and such cracked me up!! 🤣🤣🤣 the humor in this book is AMAZING.
Mor was pretty great too!! Not as great as cress imo but his name is much better.
And poor Violets been through so much. Getting her memory erased twice, getting kidnapped. She is an average person, yet such atough character.
Can't complain abt seein all the assasians agin either!! and shayneeeeee 🤣🤣 he reminds me of thorne from lunar chronicles and is soooo funny. overall, this was an amazing book. my only complaint is that i don't own book three.
The ending made this one for me. A great late hitting plot. I still have some questions but hope it gets ironed out in next books. Love this series, the perfect mix of fantasy and romcom.
Context: childhood trauma, on page death, warfare, kisses only, no language
"I vote she stays here. If you let me kiss her, I can even make sure she stays here forever." "I'll cut out your tongue if you try feeding her anything, Shayne, including your mouth" A second later, Shayne mumbled "I can still kiss her without a tongue. Won't be quite as good but-"
Violet Miller has the job of her dreams, a journalist at the most prestigious newspaper in the city, but when she's suddenly let go for her whimsical writing, she feels like her world is crashing down around her, that is, until she sees a job listing for a secretary for The Fairy Post, run by Mor Trisencor, deadly assassin turned cinnamon roll barista. However, with Violet missing 10 years of her life to a peculiar amnesia, and women across the city turning up with their memories lost, Violet sees this as an opportunity to not only unearth her own memories, but prevent any more women from falling victim to this new evil. But this evil happens to be a very powerful shadow fairy, and old nemesis of Mor, and Violet might find herself thrust into a faerie war she didn't bargain for.
I have missed Cress and his violent, blunt demeanour, and reactions to everything, especially if he doesn't get his way, or attention the second he asks for it. His arrogance is unparalleled, but he's an absolute joy, and has me howling with laughter.
"I should make you eat rocks!" Cress bellowed. "Cress," she reasoned, "this is my fault, not his." "Then you eat rocks," he said to Kate.
Shayne is still his mischievous, charming self, he knows his way around a good flirt, and witty banter, and I'm here for it! His cockiness and ability to have everyone falling to their knees in awe of him just makes you love him even more. He's not afraid to say things how they are, and loves to make others squirm.
Dranian.. oh he's a sweet teddy bear, cinnamon roll, gorgeous Dranian, He just wants all his brothers together, and with Mor distancing himself with the resurgence of his old foe, Dranian especially feels his absence. He's willing to lay his life down and potentially become morbidly injured to get him back, he absolutely broke my heart.
"I assure you, however much you think you hate Mor, I hate you twice as much for hating him in the first place."
Violet is an absolute bad-ass, unstoppable, beautiful, pen wielding force to be reckoned with. Even with the loss of her job, she refuses to be beaten down, immediately throwing herself into a new one, even if it is in a creepy, decrepit cathedral, with a grumpy, stand-offish, enigma of a boss, who may or may not be a vampire (he's not... but close enough). She is so resilient and I loved her attempt to murder fae with ink pens as her weapon of choice, she's so real, and takes everything on the chin, despite the overwhelming loneliness and sadness she carries for not quite knowing who she is, and missing so much of her life.
Mor Trisencor... WOW ... he was one of my favourites from the first instalment and he's still a firm favourite now. Still as grumpy and aloof as always, especially when it comes to dealing with humans, but if he isn't just a deliciously charming fae anyway. I loved diving deeper into Mor's past, it helped create an even more complex and intricate side to him, showing all the complex layers to him, and how he came to be the way he is now. This fae is beyond brave, tenacious, and stubborn, he's faced such agony, pain and suffering just for being vulnerable and embracing his feelings, and striving to protect innocents in any situation. Now he's learnt to battle and shield his feelings, and emotions, from getting those closest to him killed, by the very forces who deemed his feelings a weakness. He is the sweetest little cinnamon roll, but boy can he be ruthless and deliciously gorgeous with a saber in his hands...
Lastly we have the devilishly delicious, intimidating, striking and ruthless shadow fairy, who could threaten me any day, and I'd say thank you. I know we're supposed to hate him but boy is he one gorgeous hunk of shadow. He's just as witty and flirtatious as you'd expect, despite his evil leaning tendencies , his banter with Violet had me giddy, and he was just utterly electrifying. I really enjoyed the refreshing take of him being the Gumiho aka the Nine Tailed Fox... fae edition, it added even more fun to his personality. However, the loneliness, and fear of vulnerability he carries after being an emotional and physical punching bag for his father whose only ever showed him cruelty has meant he doesn't know how to let others in, despite desperately craving to be accepted and embraced fully. I felt his pain through the pages so viscerally and it really showed in his small acts of redemption throughout the story. I love him with my whole heart, and I would be completely okay if you wanted to bring out a story about him in the future...
If you're looking for a beautiful book series, that transports you seamlessly away from mundane life into a gorgeous, lush and cozy world, then look no further. Prepare yourself for an incredible story, brimming with enemies-to-lovers, with incredible, thrilling action, beautiful, unique and raw characters and beautiful prose that makes you feel so warm and fuzzy inside. I can't rave enough about this series, it is so gorgeous and astounding.
Shayne got bullied. Not gonna lie. But it was absolutely hilarious.
Shayne sighed. “All right, I’m giving you exactly five seconds, Mor. Enslave her, or I will.” “Do it, and I’ll throw you through the window,” Mor threatened. “One,” Shayne said anyway, and Mor’s face changed. “You’d better be joking, you fool.” “Two,” Shayne went on, wrapping his arm around Violet and giving her a little squeeze as if to assure her he had her best interests in mind—which he didn’t. “Three…” “Shayne,” Mor warned. “Four!” The white-haired assassin was practically singing the digits now. There was a pause after that. Shayne didn’t say the last number. He looked at Mor, waiting. Testing him. Mor stared back, positive Shayne wouldn’t dare. Shayne’s smile widened a little. “Queensbane,” Mor cursed. “Shayne!” “Five!” Shayne shouted, spinning Violet toward himself, and Mor charged. “Haley Whitefield, I command you to stop trying to kill Mor!” Shayne blurted it just as Mor ripped him back. Every muscle in Mor’s healing faeborn body flexed as he lifted Shayne, turned, and hurled the white-haired assassin through the window of Lily’s apartment. Glass shattered to the floor; fresh wind rushed into the living room. There was a light thump below, and a car trumpet began to sound. Shayne’s cackling laughter flitted all the way back up.
And then, of course, there’s Cress.
“And I spotted a fresh pie on the counter in the kitchen. Let’s split that.” Shayne grunted a laugh. “You’re going to get chubby if you keep eating pie,” he warned. “Impossible,” Cress said back, heading over and yanking the hidden card from Shayne’s sleeve. He added it back to the deck. “Lily made the pie for her human police department’s summer fundraiser,” Dranian muttered, taking the cards away from Shayne to shuffle and deal them himself. “Ah. Then let’s eat it quickly,”
“Don’t let Cress near my lemon pie, Mor!” Lily called to him before heading in the opposite direction. “I expect it to still be there when I get back! Westbow is going to kill me if I show up for a community bake sale empty-handed again.”
High Prince Cressica Alabastian of the North Corner of Evermore. You actually freaking ate Lily Baker’s pie?
At least you got your bestie back, which of course, makes sense, as it seems you bonded over the torture of others.
“Though I’m worried about Dranian,” Mor went on. “The fool has declared an oath to not sleep until he’s hunted the nine tailed fox down and finished him off. He wants revenge for his arm that was stolen.” Cress snorted a laugh through a gulp of his milk. “Good luck to him. I would pay every coin to my name to watch him try to fight a nine tailed fox with one arm,” he said, wiping a milk stain off his upper lip. Mor smiled at the thought. “Fool,” Mor and Cress muttered in unison.

Obviously, this book was exceptionally funny and entertaining.
The tone is this book was slightly darker than book one, but it was still a very cozy read.
Unlike Kate, Violet is not as lucky with avoiding enchantments, but that makes for an amazing and intense plot.
I’m literally in love with every single Fae male in this series. I enjoyed finally learning about Mor. His personality really thrived in this book and made me obsess over him even more. Cress being an egotistical bridezilla is actually phenomenal — i’m glad to see he still has his god complex because of his cooking show. And his proposal to Kate was by far the best thing I’ve ever read. Shayne relentlessly flirting with literally everyone is soooooo comical. Dranian being unsocial and uninterested while wearing a permanent scowl on his face is utterly adorable.
The kissing enchantment scene had me cackling! My face hurt from laughing and smiling. And Shayne and Luc just fighting over poor Violet HAHAHA!
I loved Luc a lot…whoops? He was very charismatic…like oof. I kept forgetting we were supposed to dislike him…like STOP FLIRTING PLEASE, I CANT HANDLE IT! I can definitely understand why he did what he did.
Of course, this was faetastic and absolutely unputdownable! With thrilling battle scenes, hilarious antics, and heartfelt moments, these fae assassins and their humans are unforgettable. You'll experience so many warm fuzzy feelings while furrowing your eyebrows and shaking your head. From beginning to end, this will enthrall you.
I think the world building rivals the dialogue, both are just sheer genius. We're given wonderful back stories in the second book, which paints even more darker shades to the vicious faerie realm. Enemies aren't just patiently waiting, no, they're lurking in the shadows bidding their time.
I really do love this series. The fae are intriguing and haughty, but at the very same time, you find that you've fallen for them and are whole heartedly cheering them on. And the humans are so relatable and just so likable. The romance is sweet and utterly swoon-worthy! And even though this is about a certain couple, we still get pieces of all the characters interspersed throughout. Which makes my little reader heart soar.
I'm super sad that this world only exists between these beloved pages because I'd definitely love to sip tea at Fae Cafe.
OKKK THAT WAS TOO CUTE 😍😍😍😍 I ALSO LOVE HOW HILARIOUS THESE BOOKS HAVE BEEN i didn’t love it as much as Welcome to Fae Cafe but it was still really good! Mor and Violet??!! aghhhh adorable totally recommend!!!
Though these books are all about fae assassins, Jennifer does such a great job bringing in humor through their interactions with—and misunderstandings of—the human world. I love the games and pranks they play, and Mor and Violet were so different from Cress and Kate, but equally enjoyable. Plus, we got to reunite with all the members of the High Court of the Coffee Bean, and it was deadly delight. I can’t wait to read the remaining books in this series as they release!
I loved coming back to the Fae-Cafe! Jennifer Kropf gives us adventure, action, romance, and giggles (Cress released a loud sigh. "You shameless hoes"). In Sincerely, Secretary of Doom, we get Mor and Violet's sassy and sarcastic to sweet banter. Along with the adventure and mystery of missing memories. Reading the High Court Of the Coffee Bean series is like sitting down and enjoying your favorite rom-com.
✨✨𝑀𝑦 𝑇ℎ𝑜𝑢𝑔ℎ𝑡𝑠✨✨ Thank you so much to Jennifer Kropf & Book of Matches Media for my Advanced Reader Copy of 𝐒𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐲, 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐃𝐨𝐨𝐦! This review is comprised entirely of my own thoughts & opinions, & is based on the copy I received.
Ahhhh!! I was so happy to be back at the High Court of the Coffee Bean and this second installment didn’t disappoint at all! This book has everything you could want in a cozy read. We’ve got sassy fae assassins who you can’t help but fall in love with even though they’re super haughty, epic world building, action, romance, and everything in between. All of these elements combined created such an enjoyable reading experience, and I loved every second of reading this book.
Oh my word, I just absolutely loved Violet and Mor! These two had the most hilarious banter ever, and then they had moments between them that had me literally swooning and getting butterflies. I loved seeing Violet try so hard to stay away from Mor, and then Mor not quite understanding what his feelings were towards her was so endearing. It was also so fun to still get to see some of Cress and Kate! This book doesn’t center around them but I was so happy we still get to see them! But of course, I just couldn’t get enough of Mor and Violet! I just really love these fae males - it makes my heart to so happy to see them in the human world and to see them getting more comfortable with everything. Their found family is amazing and I love that they always support each other.
I absolutely love this series and highly recommend it for anyone who is looking for a cozy fantasy romance read! I love so much that this book gives me all the fantasy romance elements I crave, while being a fun and cozy romcom-ish read at the same time. While there are some darker themes throughout, like with the faerie realm and everything that is lurking there, this book makes up for it with the most cozy banter and the most swoon worthy romance! If you’re looking for a book that will make you want to snuggle up with a blanket, some cookies, and hot coffee, then this is the series you are looking for!

Second book in the high Court of the coffee bean series this one follows Mor, another one of the four fae assassins who now live in the human realm.
Getting back in this cozy world Jennifer Kropf has created was everything I hoped it would be. I loved the first book, and I love this one even more.
Mor and Violet were so cute and perfect together but then so are all the characters. It's really difficult to choose a favourite in this series. But if I am being honest the antagonist in this one was my favourite 👀 I need more of his story. His relationship with Mor was something I didn't see coming at all. It was quite a complicated one and I don't think it's over yet. (Maybe he will get a book too at some point?)
[HELPPPPPP ‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️ I opened zon to add my review and saw the blurb of the third book, it's him it's him it's him, the book comes out one day after my birthday (as of now)‼️‼️‼️‼️]
It was like if Azriel and Luc from ACOTAR grew up together having a weird rivalry which tbh at time felt like foreplay 😂 (it's not).
This book can be read as a standalone but it would be more fun to read it in sequence and trust me you won't regret it.
Bonus point for Cress throwing tantrums over his best friend not letting him help.
I really enjoy the cozy vibe of this series. Even though there's action, life-threatening situations and all, it still feels pretty warm, fun and safe, and that is just so different from other fantasy reads.
I did have a little bit of trouble with this one mainly because the characters kind of fell flat for me. It's like you did not get to really see their interactions and how they could start to like one another. Same for all the side characters, I feel like great friendships could have been created but we didn't see it happening... Also didn't really understand the secretary part.. like what was her job exactly? I feel like it was always mentioned as super important but really... it wasn't.
The plot was a little going in circles, I don't feel like it moved a lot throughout all those pages. It was always a random attack and then some waiting until another attack where no one died happened again, and some more waiting until another confrontation happened. Not that I wanted people to die, not at all, I hate that, but if the main purpose of a character seems to be to hurt people really really badly and he has so many opportunities he doesn't even take, I'm like stop saying you want to do it if it's not true... It's getting annoying.
The villain never really felt like a villain to me. Maybe because of the cozy vibe, I don't know, I do prefer full on villains with a redemption arc and it did not feel like that here. I never really considered him a villain for some reason, and I adore villains... his purpose felt a bit far-fetched.
I know this focuses on the things I didn't enjoy but since it's book 2 I feel like you should already know I love the world created by the author and I like her style enough to continue this series. I still enjoyed my reading but these were the major let downs I came upon while reading. I'm never sure if I was in the wrong mood when stuff like that happens but well, that's how I felt throughout my read, can't help it. Other than that, you still get that fun rom-com vibe and the plot still was entertaining enough to keep me invested until the end. I enjoyed the bits of information from the past that we slowly got with how the story progressed. It was also nice to get peeks into the life of characters from the previous book. I'm also pretty curious about the next book coming because that teaser definitely got me intrigued.
Thanks to Bookofmatchesmedia and the author for the eARC. All opinions are my own.
I’m becoming Kropf’s loyal fan!!! Because her writing style is incredible!
Getting to travel along with The High Court of the Coffee Bean again was a fun and entertaining experience and I loved every second of it. From the sassy remarks to action filled fights, this book lacked nothing. With a coffee shop and a newspaper in the midst of old feuds and enemies coming back to haunt the fae-baristas, I couldn’t stop devouring this book.
We got to learn more about Mor which I loved, got to watch Cress acting like a jilted lover because Mor wouldn’t tell him secrets and I loved it more! Got to watch Mor fall in love too!!! Their clumsy way of communicating makes me swoon and laugh at the same time.
All I want to do now is to get into food fights with these fae assassins who are way too adorable. You will be left feeling warm and fuzzy, wishing to be a member of The High Court of the Coffee Bean when you read this.
Thank you so much to the author and BOMM for giving me an opportunity to read this amazing ARC!!!
Kropf did it again! This book, like the last, was uniquely smart, funny, and fun.
I still think she’s a genius for making a fantasy romcom. We always see humans entering fantasy worlds; it’s refreshing to see the reverse.
I begged for an ARC after reading the first book. Trust me, this isn’t one you want to miss.
-Kdrama vibes -multiple POV’s (the chapter headers are SO cute!) -found family -romance -amnesia (but not the telenovela kind) -enchantment -baked goods -mythical creatures (fae, nine-tailed foxes, & dragons)
*Note: please don’t equate the length of my read to the quality of the book; depression struggles.
Sincerely, Secretary of Doom by Jennifer Kropf. 🖤 I give it all the raisin-I mean chocolate chip cookies! ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ “There are three things you should never do when chasing a story about an evil, deadly creature of legend. 1) Don’t knock on its front door out of curiosity. (Remember, curiosity kills cats and on some rare and unfortunate occasions, it also kills humans.) 2) Don’t let it talk you into taking a job. 3) And don’t, no matter what, no matter who, when, how, or where, under any circumstances, fall in love with it. If you fail to succeed at number three especially, you’re doomed.” You can’t tell me that Jen’s rules aren’t the perfect way to open the book with! Thank you Jennifer Kropf and Winter Publishing House for the ARC!! They are back!! The faerie assassins are back and this time, oh you know I love this pun, we get more of Mor!! The Fairy Post is looking for a secretary, and after Violet Miller loses her job at the Sprinkled Scoop, she applies for the job. Miraculously, surprise surprise, she gets it. This book was a roller coaster of fun after that! Violet Miller was such a fun character! I loved the chip she had on her shoulder and the way she was just so…real and untrusting. Many authors, including myself, make strong female characters. So much so that we sometimes feel weak when we are less hard or we make more mistakes than them etc. Jen is particularly good at this as all her FMC’s are just so beautifully HUMAN! They are flawed and hilarious and its like a breath of fresh air after being underwater for too faeborn long. Also, her low iron? Iron pills, very clever. It took me way too long to get the reference which is kind of embarrassing, but once it hit me, it was genius! I might steal that for my own fae book hehe. And then we have Mor. Sweet Mor. Mor Trisencor; even his name sounds dark and brooding! If it wasn’t obvious in my review of the first book, Mor is my favorite and he just keeps getting better! Feelings are a weakness. I feel like that was the whole theme of the book and I loved it! Emotions make up who we are, without them we are just a shell of a human. And hiding them does no good. Easier said than done. He has faced so much in his short faeborn life and I just want to hug him and tell him it will be okay. Maybe have him smirk at me so I can die on the spot, idk. Speaking of dying, I am watching you, Violet. Also, between Luc, Shayne, and Mor, dude that gal has been kissed. It was hilarious seeing the enchantment be performed in the way it was meant to happen and over and over again like that!! I think the enchanted kisses are my favorite part of this book! They are certainly the most entertaining. Another fun character was Luc! Luc…Luc is a kitsune. A nine tailed fox. And oh how I love him! I should hate him, but I feel like he is more of an antagonist instead of the villain and I hope we see more of him! YES, JEN HE NEEDS HIS OWN BOOK! The fact that he was protecting Mor…I need to know why. Was it for the sheer fact that he wanted to be kind like his mother or is there something more? There is definitely something besides the cruelty of his father. Regardless, he is a fox that loves to play and I FAEBORN LOVED IT!! I want to see more of him so bad. I want to see more of ALL OF THEM SO BAD!! Cress is still hilarious; I do believe he is the most gullible and dimwitted when it comes to our human realm. His interactions with Kate are the ones that usually leave me dying on the floor rolling in a fit of laughter. Shayne is still very mysterious, witty, and has a spark in his eyes to look out for. Seriously, that faerie is trouble! The ending was perfect; Bye Shayne, hope you can swim! When I finished this book, I believed we would get his story next. But no, we are getting Dranian. And Dranian is a complete mystery to me. He is really quiet so it will be intriguing to see his story and how he plays into the roll of their little group. The plot, the world, the fae, Jen can write a book! I will read anything that woman writes forever and always. Until my last faeborn breath!
I think this series is so much fun. I love how unique it is in the urban fantasy sphere and the cozy vibes really play well into the story. I love this entire group of fae and they crack me up with the antics and shenanigans.
I’m not usually one to read an amnesia book, but this is definitely an exception to the rule. I loved how it played out and how the flashback chapters wove into the present timeline. There’s a good amount of backstory that makes so many things make sense as you go along.
The romance was sweet and I liked how it unfolded. I think I would have loved just a bit more romance, but I digress. I loved all of the banter and sass and even the nine-tailed fox.
I have been looking forward to more in this world since I finished the first book and this one was a great follow up. The writing style is fantastic. It blends humour in so flawlessly with all the serious stuff the High Court is going through. I love the relationship the Four fairies have with each other and their humans. And while l know that Cress was meant to be a side character, I loved his POVs. They made me laugh. As for Mor and Violet they were so cute. The tension between them was a beautiful slow burn and adding in the danger from Luc it was just so well done. I really enjoy this series and all the characters. Cannot wait to see Dranian’s story. Also got a feeling this isnt the last we will see of Luc.
Rating 4.5 stars *I received a review copy from the author for my voluntary and honest review
Giggling and stomping my feet I loved this adorable romcom so much. This world is fantastic. I love the high court of coffee and I loved getting to explore more of Mor's story and his nemesis Luc. There are so many giddy moments and I loved the kissing battle. It might just be my favourite. Hilarious. I can't wait for Shayne story next and what shenanigans they get up to next. I need more

📝 REVIEW: This book was just as good as the first!!! Jennifer hooks you into the story by starting out with the main characters from the first book, and then she softly transitions you to the new main characters. I absolutely love this! I also enjoyed getting to see a different side of Mor in this book and diving into his past! And my favorite part of all is that the humor is still fantastically witty, the romance is so swoony, Cress is still a pampered prince, and Shayne will forever be the best side character!
Somewhere in the middle of chapter 1 I caught myself outright smiling with giddy feelings of the story to come. This book did not disappoint! Just come for the fairy banter and stay for the mystery, action, and of course the mates. I'll just be over here eagerly awaiting book three!
So far, the series is fantastic! All I need to do is avoid reading another book before starting another one, or I'll drag before getting back into it. My attention was diverted by a different book, not because this series wasn't interesting and humorous because it was. In any case, oh my goodness, I adore the banter in this. Shayne is literally Ridoc's little brother lol.
I believe this would have failed without Jennifer's continued inclusion of Kate, Lily, Sisterhood, and the Assassins, so lets just say that I'm satisfied she had. Cress was still the stereotypically direct individual who is still clueless about the human world. In one particular instance, I believe I would have spit out whatever I was drinking because it was that hilarious. (Quote Below)
“Tell her to mind her own human business. Tell her it’s brothers before lovers and all that.” Mor rolled his head to glance at Cress. “I don’t think that’s how the human expression goes.” “It is. Kate’s-brother-Greyson said it,” Cress said. It took Mor a moment of thinking before he spoke again. “I think it’s bros before hoes. I heard Greyson say it also.” Cress’s face scrunched. “Hoes? What are hoes?” Mor shrugged. “It must be how human males refer to their women.” Cress was quiet for a long while, nodding and thinking that over.
Regarding Shayne, he is the main reason I continue to read this series. In addition to his clever remarks that make people cringe or, better yet get him thrown out a window; he is a humorous con artist who enjoys testing buttons.
Our MMC Mor. In young adult fantasy, he is the quintessential version of a grey man. He has always been elusive from the first book; making him one of my favorite characters in this series. Reading his POV and journey from his past to present I'm simply glad Jennifer wrote this. Furthermore, like all the other assassins, he remains a grouchy man and distant when interacting with humans. Learning about his past had helped put a lot of things into perspective. It was devastating and the epitome of survival-- pay attention, suppress your emotions, and know when to speak. His character development from the age of sixteen to twenty-six demonstrated his complexity; he is bold, obstinate, moody, cunning and if you offend him or those he cares about you too will have to eat the legendary cupcakes.
This is your average badass YA FMC, Violet. In contrast to Mor's black clothing, this beauty is fond of pink, green, and flowers. Even when Violet isn't looking for trouble, she seems to find it wherever she goes. She is obstinate and seeks to identify the individual who wiped women's memories, including her own. She will not be deterred by any challenges, even when losing her job, her memories that have vanished, her new odd boss, or even the evil that lurks in the shadows.
When it comes to Dranian, he remains quiet but I appreciate how Kate from the beginning to Violet in this book interprets his facial expressions. Respectfully, I would assume he is just a stick in the mud if I didn't have their point of view of how they perceived his "feelings." He is a panda, which is adorable, but when provoked, you want to best avoid him. Even though he doesn't express to his brothers his own feelings, I believe he is more of a "cinnamon roll" man who wants them to stay together- family. But now that Mor drifted away in the beginning, you can tell he gets along better with him—especially if he would put himself in danger to keep Mor safe.
With all that said, I want to talk about our antagonist character. They are crafty, vicious, unsettling, and sneaky—a gorgeous devil in disguise. It crushed my heart to see their past, even though I know we're supposed to hate him. However, you would also feel sorry for them- though they have evil tendencies. I believe this character has deep emotions and only wants to be liked in the world; sometimes we are unable to escape those who control us. Granted, there were moments when I wanted to hit them in the face. I am glad Jennifer gave us this POV of this character- not evil born but crafted into.
So far, I still recommend this series. There is an abundance of action and banter. Additionally, know that there is only kissing and a lot of innuendos—no smut. This series so far is fun and cozy. I can't wait to read about Darnian in the next installment!
Violet Miller has always wanted to be a journalist. Ever since waking up with no memories, and learning this is happening to other women, she made it a goal to find this memory snatcher. However, she lost her job as an intern at The Sprinkled Scoop and now is trying to get a different job. She finds a job posting in The Fairy Post for a secretary and she goes to get an interview and finds her articles all over the place and thinks this is the memory snatcher. Mor Trinsecor was in the Shadow Army until he left it all. But he keeps finding a Shadow Fairy and keeps trying to warn others about him by his Fairy Post using Violet Miller’s articles as his source. When she stumbles upon him with a scent he cannot place, he decides to use her as bait to catch the Shadow Fairy.
Like the first book in the series, this one was also quirky, funny-laugh out loud funny, and full of banter and quips.
I missed these fairies so much 😹 They’re just as enjoyable as they were when we first met!
In this one, Violet is more of a damsel in distress and is always dressed to the nines for it 😹 She was an interesting character that has a mysterious past that you’re trying to figure out the entire book, while also trying to solve the mystery ongoing in the story too.
Mor is the tall, broody one who seems to not understand why he feels the way he does around Violet, and it’s quite enjoyable to see how their relationship plays out since it starts out rather unconventional, and continues to be unconventional as the story continues. It’s quite hilarious the way they interact around each other and how determined Violet is to stay away from Mor, but can’t seem to stay away.
I also loved the chapters with all of Mor’s assassin brothers. Shayne and Cress are probably still my favorites of the males, and I loved seeing what’s going on with them and the others while learning about Mor and Violet. I would have to say the chapters with the other males were my favorites 🤣
I will say I didn’t quite enjoy the romance in this one as the other one. Violet at times was rather obnoxious, and so the romance to me wasn’t that believable, funny and entertaining maybe, but not very believable. I think I just enjoyed the mystery, learning about Mor and Violet, and the story than anything else.
Oh! And the villain is exquisite. Best character so far in this series is definitely Luc 😏 Now I need a book for him because I need closure.
That being said, I’m very much looking forward to the next book!
I received a free digital copy to read. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I am so thankful to have been chosen by @authorjenniferkropf to be an ARC reader again for book two. These are my honest thoughts in exchange!
I loved diving back into this world and getting a new couple! I wasn’t quite sure how multiple books would play out, if we were going to keep following Kate and Cress or what, but I was pleasantly surprised that each of our Fae Assassins will be getting a love story!
I enjoyed getting a deeper look into Mor’s character and his history. He intrigued me the most out of our Fae men and peeling back that curtain was so enticing. He is just as broody and secretive as he was in book one, but he has a heart of gold under that tough exterior.
The world building continues to be phenomenal and I love the way the cafe still plays a part in this story, despite the distance Mor attempts to create. We get a more in depth look at the Fae world through flashbacks, and needless to say I’m glad I don’t live there. This isn’t your happy go lucky Fae realm, it’s a place filled with darkness and hatred. It’s made all the worse knowing that the enemies on the other side are waiting on their chance to struck at our High Court of Beans.
The dialogue and humor is top tier writing. Shayne remains my favorite as he knows just what jokes to land and when. He brought me many laugh out loud moments and I can’t wait to get to his book!
Violet, our FMC, brings a specific mystery to this series and I enjoyed unraveling all those threads. She isn’t quite a damsel in distress, but she does have a few moments where she needed rescuing, and no one rescues quite like Mor.
In a romance world filled with spice, reading this “clean” romance was a breath of fresh air. You don’t even realize that the spice is missing as the romance story more than makes up for it!
First of all thank you Jennifer Kropf !! I've been very excited since the e-book arrived, so I started reading it right away.
It's not usual for me to leave a review when I finish a book, buuuut I loved the way the narrative is not only funny (and sarcastic) but engaging with the reader, it allows you to understand and connect with both Mor and Violet, with their past and small personality traits, the direction is very complex because all through the book's narrative, it can take the turn from a very comfortable and cozy moment or a hilarious conversation into an amazing fighting scene. While I was reading, I felt like a detective or journalist myself, trying to solve the mystery with the characters. The start of the relationship between Mor and Violet was honest (I would also hesitate to trust a dude dressed like a vampire), and the development of trust (and something else) in their relationship was amazing, both sides go from not even caring if you die to don't you dare die. Loooove the presence of Cress, Dranian, and Shayne so we (the readers) know what happened and their development through the first and second book. It's fantastic the way that the damsel in distress trope is handled, the lone Wolf personality, and the background on fae lore and mythical creatures. I've enjoyed the modern spin since the first book, so this sequel is going into my favorite cozy book section. I'll wait patiently for the next book; it was so worth the wait.
I didn’t know what to expect in this book, but I sure loved it! The premise is that Violet is a reporter for the Fae Post after being let go from a very prestigious job. She has been losing her memories, and has accidentally been labeled at former fae assassin Mor’s girlfriend. Hilarity, chaos, and a little bit of romance ensued, and I couldn’t put this book down! There is banter and sass and love and sweetness. Just perfect.
Violet and Mor are just my favorite duo. Mor has such big tough guy energy is doing his best to be a big tough guy, but he was so soft and sweet and it was fun to watch him fall for Violet. He totally didn’t understand his feelings ad this was happening, which was super fun to follow his journey. The romance wasn’t spicy, more cute and soft, but it was nice and preempted (rather than just diving headfirst into it) and I loved that a lot.
Now, as for tropes, I am not a fan of amnesia books, but this book didn’t read that way AT ALL. Yes, Violet was dealing with losing her memories, but never felt helpless like so many other amnesia novels. Flashbacks were woven into the story which helped cover that gap.
Overall, this story was a fun and quick read and I am excited to see what is next for this world.
