When Shirley's mother is killed during the Blitz, she and her father cross the Atlantic and become part of a new family. The Romanovs live in a typical American small town. When the lake snows over during the winter, it opens a portal to Transylvania where Shirley's step-sisters become vampires. A bite on the neck, and Shirley is about to become eternal and influence the twentieth century in ways she can barely imagine.
Shirley and her father, Captain Peter Hughes live in England. After his wife is killed during the German Blitz of England, he starts to receive letters from Eleanor in Toddsville, Massachusetts. After WW2 ends, he moves Shirley and himself to Toddsville.
Shirley discovers Eleanor and her two daughters aren’t exactly who they say they are. The Devlin family ends up getting mixed up in their lives and it may just be Shirley’s saving grace.
My thoughts:
Step Sisters was an okay read. It took a while to get into the story because other than Shirley figuring out Eleanor and her two daughters were vampires not much really happens.
Steps Sisters is appears to be a Cinderella retelling but with vampires. Overall, it was a decent read and I liked Shirley’s character.
