Meet Halle and Reed, strangers-to-situationship-to-exes-to-friends-to-lovers, in this honest and dynamic debut novel.
When Halle Hevko starts her freshman year of college she is eighteen, has never kissed a boy, and has her whole life figured out. On an assignment for the school paper, she meets Reed, a charming soccer player, and the two of them have a spark neither of them can deny. With a hot boyfriend and fun friends to go out with, Halle is finally starting to feel like she's found her place.
Until Reed breaks up with her.
About to start her sophomore year of college, all Halle can think about is how her life crashed and burned after her break up and what she can do to pick up the pieces and start 1. Get grades high enough to get off academic probation 2. Stop drinking 3. Avoid Reed Callaway at all costs
Her plan is quickly forgotten when Reed sits next to her on the first day of class like nothing's changed, like he's still the same kind and charismatic guy she met last year. Like he never broke her heart with no explanation. As the semester progresses and they grow closer, Halle has to decide if she's willing to let him back into her life and risk being hurt again. Meanwhile old and new obstacles make them question how well they really know each other.

first off, massive thank you to Tessa for sending me the eBook!!!

I honestly really loved this book. I loved getting to know Reed and Halle. I think their characters and personalities were so fun and so relatable. (Also, loved that this was a little soccer romance going on.) I really liked all the different characters (well, "really liked" might be a stretch, there were a couple I couldn't stand, a couple I couldn't care less about, and a couple that I loved) and thought the dynamics between side and main characters was done well!

Honestly, it kind of felt like I was reading someone's diary. There were some times that it was a bit chaotic and confusing, but I kind of liked that because that's how I feel like my thoughts are. I actually found myself relating to Halle more than I would've thought.

I’m a big second-chance and strangers-to-friends-to-lovers girlie, and this was suchhhh a good and fast read (but if I’m being totally honest, it was a bit hard for me to get into, probably until I was about 25% of the way through I felt like I was struggling, but I think it’s mostly because I don’t *love* ebooks, lol I am a physical book girlie!!). There are a couple of heavy moments, but otherwise a pretty feel-good read!! Once I was in a good groove, Reed and Halle had me the rest of the way.

Ultimately, I really really enjoyed it and am excited to read Tessa's future works!!

I enjoyed Halle and Reed’s long trope leading to a relationship. Honestly feel like everyone went through a relationship like this hs into college, if they went to the same college. You learn so much and grow so much. I won’t give a lot away but it is a good read!
Thank you to the author for gifting this ebook and all thoughts/opinions above and my own!

I'm not really sure how my 38 year-old self got so caught up in a college romance novel, but here we are! Seriously, though, while No Coincidences does have a very sweet (amd sometimes frustrating) romance between Reed and Halle, this book is so much more. It is also about a friend group, also hugely about mental health, and ultimately just about that equal parts magical and terrifying college experience. I couldn't help but feel super nostalgic as Halle navigated waters so familiar to me such as managing new relationships, figuring out how to deal with the strain of academics and a social life, and even writing for the college newspaper.

For a debut novel, I was very impressed by No Coincidences. I could nitpick a few technical points such as too much "gonna" and "wanna" as well as the need for more of a clear driving plot, but I completely applaud D'Errico for a wonderful first novel, all while a student herself! This book tackles so many different topics, and I felt fully invested in both Reed and Halle as individuals....and I totally cried at the end!!

I’ve been in a mini reading slump for about 2 weeks and this book helped bring me right out! I adored the characters, found them relatable, and loved the approach taken around heavier subjects. Halle and Reed’s individual character development was so great and contributed to me loving their relationship so much more! I’m a big big second chance romance girlie and this hit the spot!

I would recommend this to anyone college and post-grad aged readers- I felt like I was taken right back to campus and could picture all elements of the college environment so perfectly.

This was a great debut for Tessa D’Errico- I can’t wait to read whatever comes next! (Also!! The quotes before each “part” of the book really tied everything together! The timelines were specified super well if we jumped ahead a few months and I never felt confused by it!)

More of a 2.75. It was a moderately fun read but I don’t think I really connected w any of the MCs friends like I think I should have. Many details about how the friendship sprung and stuff were all left out. The relationship between MC and Reed was soo weird too. Reed’s bs reason for leaving MC in the first place wasn’t really covered to the extent I would have liked (especially since the entire premise of the book is how Reed leaving MC ruined MC’s life☠️). I liked Reed for the most part… he was really sweet to MC. MC (Halle) on the other hand… I just felt she always had smth to say. She’s complain if Reed comforted her, she’d complain if Reed left her alone. There was no winning with her!!! Overall I enjoyed it for the cute romance moments and that’s about it

I was gifted a copy of Tessa D’Errico’s debut, ‘No Coincidences’ in exchange for an unbiased, honest review.

‘No Coincidences’ is a wonderful, coming of age story in which the protagonist, Halle, navigates her way through the highs and lows of Freshman year at college.

As the first person in her family to go to college, she has set herself some high expectations and has big plans for the things she wants to achieve, but you know how that can go sometimes, right?

She soon finds herself living and breathing chaos and is soon swept under, trying to juggle classes, demanding professors, countless assignments, a job, friends who come with their own sets of complications, and not to mention her on/off relationship with the almost too good to be true Reed - but will she ever break free of this cycle? Will she accept help and find herself, especially when there’s enemies at her door?

The story deals with the different types of people you’ll meet at college - the ones you love, the ones you hate, and the ones you got all wrong. The characters that D’Errico has created are vivid and real and there were occasions where I wanted to reach into the book and slap Nadia to wake her up from the situation she was in - I also kept waiting for one of them to backfire on her too! As for Addy and Ben - their chemistry rivals Halle and Reeds - something needs to be done with that…

If you’re looking for a book that gives you an insight into what college can really be like, then look no further. You’ll find yourself laughing and crying, worrying and cheering throughout, but mostly you’ll feel sympathetic to Halle’s plight - the struggles and the hurdles that she needs to overcome. A thought-provoking, therapy-type read that will leave you exhilarated for Halle as she grows and as she journeys into adulthood (but who will she take with her?)

This book started off really strong to me but kind of petered off, though I think it was less the fault of the book and more I just didn't connect with it. I really didn't understand a single character in this book- they were all messy and toxic in a way I didn't quite understand, and that left me frustrated with almost every action they made (though fr I'm never forgiving Addy for continuing to be friends with Luke and enabling his abuse. It's not quirky; it's actually terrifying and Halle is lucky she got off as easy as she did). I also found Reed low key manipulative* and Halle inscrutable and this is one of the few romances where I really don't see the couple staying together long term. However, they were far less toxic than like 90% of romances (especially new adult romances) I've read and they never act in ways unrealistic to stupid college kids, so I can't hold that against them.

I will say, this was marketed as a second chance romance, but this book would've been way stronger without the breakup. We got very little of them actually broken up before Reed tried to act like nothing happened, and we got minimal discussion between them of why they broke up or what it meant, and it didn't really seem to change much between them. There was no tension and it would've been far less distracting if I wasn't constantly bamboozled at how they were acting post-breakup

I do appreciate the raw take on problems that college students regularly face, but I was pretty frustrated that pretty much none of the plotlines were wrapped up by the end of the book. We got two chapters at the end that was an overarching description of attempting to tie up loose ends, but we got one paragraph about Aaron, nothing about Nadia, we got something about the magazine even though that was essentially two paragraphs in the entire rest of the book (I forgot about that plotline tbh, why was it included again?). I understand that people in these situations wouldn't resolve everything after two years, but it just seemed odd to me to tackle so many serious issues and then not even address them really, or almost normalize them as if there's nothing wrong with

But honestly? Even though this was mostly tell and very little show, this was better written than a lot of romances I've read and very strong for an independent debut. I'm super excited to see what else D'Errico has to offer.

(p.s. is it really that normal for one's significant other to sleep over while one's roommate is in the room? that was honestly the wildest part to me lmao, my friends made fun of people who let their partners sleep over while their roommates were in the other bed, that sounds so uncomfortable for everyone involved)

*

(p.p.s. this is a genuine question, but what’s an “onset migraine”? both my mom and I are lifelong migraine sufferers and I’ve written papers about migraines and I’ve never heard of this term (and I couldn’t find anything on Google) but Halle says multiple times that she “feels an onset migraine developing” and I’m so intrigued)

My Summary: Boy meets girl. Boy and girl fall in love. Boy breaks up with girl. Boy and girl get back together. Oh, did I not yet mention the SA awareness, female friendships, mental health awareness, “if he wanted to he would,” and so many more very real college issues?

My Review:
This book was almost cathartic in a way — reading about a girl figuring herself in college. It had some really tough parts (sad parts) that many girls go through. It also had some great lessons and representation of good friends, advice, and good relationship boundaries. I enjoyed reading it and will look forward to more of this author’s work.

3 stars ✰

I have mixed feelings about this book. I appreciated how raw and realistic it felt, especially in its portrayal of heavy themes like alcohol and drug abuse, which made the story relatable to my personal real-life situations. However, the excessive focus on alcohol abuse made parts of the story less enjoyable for me. I also had different expectations based on the blurb. With the main characters being exes, I was hoping some emotional groveling or reconciliation, but that didn’t happen.. :/

This book is a great read for younger audiences looking for a quick summer read. halle and reed are extremely relatable characters who’s relationship is very realistic. my only critique would be that this book is written in a style that tells a story rather than shows the progression of the story. But overall i enjoyed the story and i am very thankful that the author gifted me the ebook!

What a good debut novel!
This story is filled with the messiness that is growing up and becoming an adult. The trials and tribulations, and the failures. As well as celebrating the wins in life. And finding your people to always lean on.
Beautifully written

sweet story

I loved getting to know Halle and Reed. It was fun embarking with them through their freshman year of college with all the ups and downs. It made me want to go back and go to college right out of high school. The way the two worked out it the end warmed my heart.

DNF at 73% - I really tried to stick through to the end. The actual story was entertaining but the voice felt flat and one dimensional. I finally gave up after “Bad.” was a complete descriptive sentence.

Color me impressed! It was fun to dive into such an authentic college environment. Excellent depth of characters and situations. I was most impressed by the emotional intelligence of the characters given the author’s age. If this is what Tessa is writing now, I can’t wait to read what is next!

i have no words except for: I LOVE THIS BOOK! Halle and Reed are SO adorable they had me kicking my feet and giggling just about every page. Usually I’m not a huge fan of fast paced books but this was an exception for sure. Even though it was short, I still felt a deep connection with every character. Halle is literally me and I am Halle. The way it felt like i was literally reading a book about me was so crazy. I have a million highlights of parts where I related so hard to Halle it actually made me laugh at how seen I felt. I will never get over this story and I can’t wait for the next books in this series to learn more about everyone else!

No Coincidences is a new adult college romance filled with fun and messy characters who learn how to grow up in the high pressure world of college. When we first meet Halle her freshman year, she has her whole life mapped out and knows exactly what she wants her future to be. Enter Reed, a charming soccer player who she has an instant connection with. As the semester goes on, everything is falling into place with her new friends and her maybe boyfriend Reed. Until Reed breaks it off for seemingly no reason and sends Halle into a spiral.

As Halle is about to start her sophomore year she vows to do three things to repair the mess that was her last year: fix her grades and get off academic probation, stop drinking, and forget about Reed. However, her plans are forgotten when Reed sits next to on their first day of class and acts like nothing has changed, like he is the same caring, charming guy he was before he broke her heart. As the two find their way back into a rhythm, Halle must choose whether or not to let him back in, while dealing with new and old obstacles that threaten to tear them apart.

I really enjoyed this book! It resonated a lot with me and my own messy semester I had my senior year of college. I think that Halle and Reed were such dynamic characters and were meant to be from the very beginning. I felt like I was reading a slice of life style story of these two college kids in love and I think that is what I liked the most of the book. I did feel like every possible bad thing that could happen to these two did happen, but I think it shows how strong they are as a couple that nothing could really tear them apart. Again, I think it was a great read and am excited to see what Tessa does next!

halle and reed had a whirlwind romance at the beginning of freshmen year, until he broke it off with no explanation. a year later, he shows up in her life and has her falling all over again. however, unlike before, secrets are tagging along.

even though i had difficulties connecting with halle and reed’s romance, it didn’t take away from the enjoyment of the book. although this book was a romance book, i believe it wasn’t the sole star of the story. the cast of characters, created by tessa d’errico, each have their moments and are fleshed out to the degree that i could imagine meeting any of them — and i do hope that i someday meet people like them.

(not all of them though, aaron, luke and teddy can fuck right off)

my favourite characters are ben and addy!!! i just love them 🫶🏾 i hope ben gets his act together and stops messing around. an honourable mention is harry for his brothel comment. i was in tears from laughing too hard after reading the scene.

however, i do believe that the book suffered from the amount of plot points, it tried to cover. i wanted to see more of reed’s relationship with his mum — or just a closer look at halle meeting his family. similarly, i wished to read more about halle’s writing journey — or more of the beginning of what her time at the college’s newspaper and sam was like.

overall, all i have to say is that No Coincidences is a great romance book and an amazing debut for tessa d’errico. i am incredibly excited to read isabel’s luck in love as she was one of the great assets of the book.

LOVED IT!! Reed and Halle were everything and I love them so much. The book dealt with so many things from mental health to assault and was written in the perfect way for it. I do wish we got so many more domestic scenes of them I don’t think I could ever get enough. Reed was such a sweetheart and Halle was a queen, they’re perfect for each other.

What I will say though is that there were a few points that were mentioned in a chapter and then never talked about again even though it didn’t make sense to not bring them up (reed’s mum calling halle at the hospital, the plates being smashed by those boys, reeds fingers after the car door incident etc)

Also I would’ve loved to get in Reed’s head at certain points just to see what he was thinking but the book still worked perfectly with just Halle’s.

Can’t wait to read about the other girls and meet the other characters again.

A big thank you to Tessa for providing me with the ebook in exchange for a honest review.

I absolutely love this book and think it was a great debut for Tessa. It was so nice getting to know Reed and Halle. Getting to experience all the highs and lows of the college experience with both of them.

It was honestly very fun to read about their dynamic as it has so many different stages of the relationship intertwined throughout the book. I found myself relating to Halle a lot. Her struggles and her thoughts that’s a real that it was so easy to be inside her head and understand where she was coming from.

I’m very excited to read more of Tessa’s future works and I’m very happy to have gotten a chance to read her debut.

I loved this book. Tessa wrote an amazing coming of age book that covered some of the most difficult parts of college without making it the soul focus of the book and I loved it. Reed and Halle's story was so cute and I like the way that it was built in the book but was not the only thing in the book. Through the whole story you can see the development of both the main characters as well as their friends and how they learn to navigate this new territory together. If you are looking for a fun college romance with a few heavier topics mixed in this is perfect for you. Huge shout out to Tessa D'Errico for releasing her debut book while doing college herself!

Tessa wrote about many relatable, serious topics and in my opinion, did it phenomenally. Although heavy topics are mentioned in No Coincidences I enjoyed and appreciated how humor was also a large part of the book as well. I found myself relating to Halle a lot and although I am not personally in it, her partial of college and the environment of it all was refreshingly accurate to my experiences and knowledge from friends in college. It checked all of my boxes for a romance novel and although there is a large scale of tropes and categories to base my opinions on, it truly was a perfect read overall!

Oh my goodness. I didn't expect to enjoy this as much as I did. Not your average "college series" novels. A lot less 🌶️🌶️ than I'm used to also!
Halle and Reed are just adorable. They flow well together, and it's lovely to see how well some miscommunication can work out. It's a fantastic show of growth in characters, especially as they go through their college years and transition into adults.
I would love a story on Addy & Ben, I'm definitely not keen on Teddy, he seems like a waste of space along with Aaron and of course Luke.

I think this book is a really good debut novel. I just had a hard time connecting with the characters. I found the main female character to be kind of relatable but also really destructive and self sabotaging, which was hard to read at some points.

I am happy that it is an HEA but I found that getting from point to point B was really difficult and kind of put me in a bit of a mental state after finishing it. I truly find the writing to be great and the potential to be there, but this book was very tough to get through.

It kind of reminded me of Say You Swear and Tell Me Lies all in one.

No Coincidences is book 1 of the Campus Crush trilogy. Can’t wait and see what the rest of the trilogy brings for this up and coming new author, Tessa D’Errico.

This amazing story of Halle and Reed, two freshmen in college, who are new to relationships, friendships, college life have a spark together and begin figuring it all out. Only to experience a breakup which leads to a crash and burn for Halle. Somehow, some way, they figure all these things out, because they are destined to be together and take one step at a time.

Can’t wait for book #2!
