I have just completed the first chapter of this book, so I got to move the lovely gold ribbon to page 18. I am already looking forward to the rest of the book but it will take a while to complete and so I wanted to present my initial thoughts at this juncture; it is Wonderful! The book arrived in my mailbox not long after our house was struck by lightning. This may seem immaterial but it's not because under such extraordinary circumstances what seems to matter (the nice things, the material things) no longer does. There is instead a focus on what's important and I can see that this lovely book speaks to that very point as well. Thus far I've been impressed by it's ability to weave Church History with contemporary issues, which I think makes this book exceptional. I was particularly impressed by the idea (p.16) that "sin has a social character." It does! I just didn't expect such words in a "religious book" which is a big part of why I find it to be so approachable. I promise to offer a proper review when I'm done reading. By then I'll have moved the lovely gold ribbon to the last page and moved closer to an understanding of The Sacred Heart. I'm looking forward to the journey!
