Stepmama Season showed up and showed TF out. From the very beginning, this book had me in a serious chokehold. After doing a two year bid, Alpha is fresh out of prison and looking to restart his life. With the death of his baby mama, he now has full custody of his two young daughters so, returning to the streets for that quick and easy money is no longer an option. He already has a new job lined up and his boy, Dame, loaned him his house, his car, and flipped the money he was holding for him. So, Alpha’s new normal is headed in the right direction. Brooke is a hairstylist who’s about her business. Having gone through a recent breakup, sis just wants to make her money and build her ever growing clientele. Finding a new boo thang is low on her list of priorities. While enjoying a girls night out with her bestie, she’s introduced to Alpha and their attraction to one another is instantaneous. He wastes no time shooting his shot and, lets just say, he scored the winning shot that night. Both of them were just looking for an occasional hookup but, between Alpha’s charm, his adorable daughters, and Brooke’s nurturing personality, they couldn’t help but fall headfirst into a relationship neither of them were looking for. Stepmama Season was everything. This book gave me all the feels. The journey these characters embark upon is so realistic and so relatable. You get to see the highs and lows this couple goes through, you get to see unexpected life changes, you get to see hard decisions that have to be made, you get to see betrayal, you get to see heartbreak, you get to see the rebuilding of trust, and you get to see forgiveness. Because, lemme tell you, Alpha had to do a lot of azz kissing to redeem himself and the piss poor choices he made. But, he learned a valuable lesson. When your woman tells you what her hard no is and what she won’t put up with, believe her. If you have not read Stepmama Season, move it to the top of your TBR expeditiously.
