The Afro Unicorns are on parade! Magical, Unique, and Divine celebrate inclusivity and friendship as they bring all the Afro Unicorns together to celebrate the annual Festival of Crowns.
The Festival of Crowns is one of the biggest gatherings of the year in Afronia, and everyone is excited to march in the big parade to celebrate.
But when a last-minute problem puts the parade in jeopardy, the three best friends work together to find a solution.
When Afro Unicorn creator April Showers realized that her favorite emoji—the unicorn!—was only available in white, she was inspired to create a more inclusive brand for children of color to celebrate how magical, unique, and divine they truly are.

A Magical Parade by April Showers is a story of kindness, resilience and community. When an Afro Unicorn crown goes missing, the other Afro Unicorns come together with their problem solving skills so the parade can go on. Beautifully illustrated by Anthony Conley, A Magical Parade is a great early reader book.

In this early reader, three unicorns of various colors are excited to celebrate Day of Crowns and show off their stuff, including their beautiful crowns. But when one unicorn loses its crown, the three friends--Unique, Divine, and Magical--go out of their way to help by gathering flowers and shiny things and making a new crown. Their kindness pays off since they are invited to help lead the parade. Colorful artwork and accessible text makes this an easy read for youngsters, many of whom will appreciate the fact that the unicorns are colorful and not just the usual white seen in most books featuring these magical creatures. This one is a 2.5 for me.
This was our first dive into the Afro Unicorn universe. My daughter is entering her unicorn era, so she loves this book. The Afro Unicorns - Divine, Magical, and Unique - spend much of the book getting ready for the Day of Crowns, which involves looking fly as hell, wearing a bejeweled crown, and gathering with other Afro Unicorns. After getting ready they help another unicorn who has lost their crown, then they ride a float in a parade and have the time of their lives. It's fine. Three stars.
Beginning Reader Level 1 Charming story about unicorns getting ready for their annual Day of Crowns. Readers see them each prepare to be part of the parade and celebrate who they are. One unicorn has lost her crown and the others work together to create a new one for her. I love the message of connections and support along with being proud of who you are.
