I love Hope Ford. This one however was underwhelming. I didn't really like it. I made it to the end, but found myself forcing myself to finish it. It hasn't swayed me off Hope Ford, but damn I guess they can't all be the best.
Just a flat concept. Not really interesting.

-exhibition scene: it started then just stopped..like there was this build up then nothing

-things that PMO:
1. the reason they couldn’t be together (after they reconnected) was stupid & therefore didn’t give the “forbidden” or “angsty” vibes

2. the pained reactions the H had to not being with h felt OTT in a bad way (which I never thought I’d say)

3. the interactions with Alexis & her mom vs Davis really annoyed me. Like there were barely any sweet moments between her & her mom. it was annoying how Davis suddenly came in and was so perfect & sweet & Alexis just fell all over him. Alexis immediately trusted & wanted him around so much; where’s those interactions with her mom????

4. “How about a picnic, Lex? We can sit right here.” I gesture to the front porch, and Alexis jumps up and down. “Let’s do it, Davis. I love picnics.”

- look I’ve got 3 nieces & and this is not how a kindergartner talks 😵‍💫. she didn’t act 6 throughout the book. (Maybe this eg isn’t the best but there were other times she talked def older than her age)

5. The 88% mark drama (the final reason they couldn’t be together) was SO DUMB, it made ME want to fall out of a tree

Have you ever read a book because of the cover? Or should I say the hot man on the cover? Well, I just did and I am so glad I grabbed Sweet Addiction because I loved it. Abby is a single mom and Davis's best friend's little sister. Davis served in the military with Abby's brother Zach and has been in love with Abby since the first time he saw her and little did he know she has loved him just as long. I loved that Davis worked on himself before returning to Whiskey Run and I especially loved Abby's determination to make him realize he deserved love and she was the one for him. I was cheering Abby and Davis on to get their happily ever after in this beautiful love story. From the great storyline to the believable characters Sweet Addiction is a great start to the Whiskey Men: Wounded Heroes series and I can't wait to read the rest of this series. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.

Not my favorite from Hope Ford even though I've only read a few.

The storyline itself is good and I'd even go as far as to say there's a slight twist in the end as far as a brothers best friend romance goes. I can't put my finger on it, but something about this one just fell flat for me.

Abby is sweet enough and I enjoyed that she had a supportive family. The relationship with them was great and it was lovely how they practically adopted Davis. Her daughter Alexis was also adorable.

Davis was an admirable character in general who has been through a lot. A mission gone wrong leaves him with a life altering injury that leads him to a pain pill addiction. We meet him after he's been sober for a year but his struggles are discussed periodically.

Overall, not a bad story. There's relatively low drama and it's a quick read.

I'm loving these Whiskey Run books and the spin offs too. They really pull at the heartstrings and make you become emotionally involved in each of their stories. Abby and Davis' book definitely does that.

Davis is back in Whiskey Run after losing his leg whilst serving in the army trying to rebuild his life but avoiding people there from his old life. Only when Abby (his friend and follow soldier Zach's sister) finds out she and her daughter - Alexis rally around him to bring him out of himself. Old flames are fanned and the sweetness of that is what made this book for me. Another lovely & heart-warming read with characters I really loved. A knockout read.

I was expecting more from this book as it's quite highly rated. It's not bad, but it's not great either.

It's a sweet story, but the writing style is quite stilted so it takes a bit to get into it. Also, it jumps right in with vulnerability immediately from both main characters. Considering Davis is meant to be a brooding, injured soldier, he sure just let's it all out regularly. I mean, it's healthy, but it's not expected.

The two main characters feel very ordinary, which again, nothing wrong with that and in way I kind of liked it, it feels sort of like watching two friends find each other in real life. It just doesn't make for the most exciting book. Still, it's sweet and wholesome and a very quick easy read.

Ultimately, there wasn't enough of them recognizing their feelings for each other. This is dual POV, yet we don't really know how he has felt about her for the last 6 years until her brother slips it in at the end? The plus sized rep also wasn't great here -- it's a lot of hostily-then-reassurances and not just appreciation. This book was kind of paced like a novella -- it had about the story volume of a book a third its length, honestly.

From start to finish that romance was spectacular. I loved how the author captured a struggling hero with a life changing injury and the resulting addiction. Davis is a true hero is so many ways. He struggles to come to terms with his new reality and to daily make decisions that won’t lead him down the path of addiction again. He questions his worth and whether he’s a good man, but doesn’t question his actions for a moment when it comes to looking after the woman he loves and protecting her young daughter

Davis and Abby have known each other a long time. He’s her brother’s best friend and an honorary member of the family for years. After a mission leaves him with a life changing injury, he returns to Whiskey Run for therapy and a new path. When Abby kinds that he’s home, she stops at nothing to check on him and remind him that he is loved and he is family. I really loved how Abby and her family came around him and lifted him up.

Davis with Abby’s daughter Alexis is one of the cutest relationships you will ever read. She loves him instantly and he would do anything for her! You can feel their love for each other grow which adds a new level of love to his relationship with Abby. Alexis really adds a beautiful layer to this story and wouldn’t be the same without her!

There is no OW drama in this book. OM drama is minimal with Abby’s baby daddy but nothing Davis can’t handle beautifully. The only drama comes in Davis questioning himself and his ability to be what Abby and Alexis need and deserve. This was also written and handled remarkably well and never changes how the readers view Davis’ character. The heat of this romance is incredible. Their first spicy scene together? HOT! Their first time intimate together? HOT HOT and also really sweet and soul warming. Everything - characters, story, spice, drama - everything comes together for a sweet ending! I love where these characters ended up and can’t wait to see what comes next for them as the series of interconnected characters continues.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ / 5 estrellitas porque me encantó UN MONTÓN

Sweet Addiction es uno de esos romances que parecen simples, pero terminan pegándote directo en el corazoncito. Lo amé. Así de sencillo. Cinco estrellitas sin dudarlo. Algo que me encantó desde el inicio es que Davis no es el típico protagonista perfecto: es un ex–mercenario herido, lidiando con su discapacidad física y también con todo lo emocional que vino después de su accidente. Me gustó muchísimo que su pierna amputada no lo define, pero sí forma parte de su historia, de su lucha y de su crecimiento. Y que el libro lo trate con dignidad, sin convertir eso en un drama barato, me pareció precioso.

Y Abby, ay dios. Una madre soltera que ha cargado con todo sola, que no se queja, que hace lo que debe hacer para sacar adelante a su hija. La respeto muchísimo. Además, me gustó la forma realista en la que está escrita: cuidada, cansada, fuerte por necesidad, pero con ese toque suave que hace que uno entienda por qué Davis se obsesiona un poquito.

Lo mejor para mí fue la dinámica con Alexis, la hija de Abby. La manera en que Davis conecta con ella es tan bonita. No es que quiera reemplazar nada ni ser "el súper héroe", simplemente se acerca desde el cariño, desde la paciencia, desde esta vibra de “sé que eres importante para tu mamá, así que también lo eres para mí”. Eso me derritió completamente.

Y el trope del best friend’s little sister mezclado con wounded hero + single mom + age gap + small town… es una receta peligrosa para enamorarme, y aquí funcionó perfecto. La forma en que él literalmente se muda a Whiskey Run porque Abby y su niña son su salvavidas emocional… uf. Qué hombre.

Además, me encantó ver cómo Davis reconoce sus adicciones, sus sombras y su proceso de sanación. Y cómo Abby no es una “salvadora”, sino una presencia que lo inspira a querer ser mejor sin obligarlo a nada.

En resumen: Sweet Addiction es dulce sin empalagar, tierno sin volverse cursi, y perfecto si te gustan los romances donde el protagonista está roto pero no derrotado, y la chica lleva su mundo en los hombros sin perder la capacidad de amar.

Yo quedé encantadísima 💛📚.

This book had potential—wounded hero, single mom, small-town charm—but it ended up being more sweet than satisfying.

Davis, the ex-mercenary with war trauma and a prosthetic leg, is the kind of hero I should’ve loved. He’s tortured, loyal, protective—and pining hard for Abby, his best friend’s curvy little sister. But instead of giving me all the slow-burn tension and emotional gut punches I was hoping for, the romance skated over the surface of everything. There was build-up to a forbidden-ish, brothers-best-friend situation... and then nothing. They reconnected quickly and easily, and every obstacle after that felt forced.

Abby was fine as a heroine, but she got shortchanged when it came to depth—especially in her role as a mom. Most of the meaningful interactions with her daughter Alexis were handed to Davis, which was frustrating. Like, it’s great that Alexis bonded with him instantly, but where were those layered, heartfelt mother-daughter moments that could’ve added emotional weight to the story?

Also… I’m just going to say it. Alexis read like she was 10 going on 30. Her dialogue didn’t match a 6-year-old and sometimes it pulled me out of the story altogether. Davis could have sneezed and this child would have proposed to him. It felt a bit too convenient, especially since Abby and Alexis’s bond wasn’t explored in the same tender way.

The final third of the book took a nosedive with drama that made me want to yell into the void. The reason for the last-minute separation? Completely unearned. I’m all for emotional angst when it matters, but this wasn’t it.

In the end, Sweet Addiction was soft and sugary but ultimately forgettable. If you're looking for a low-stakes, low-angst romance with a wounded alpha and zero real tension, this might hit the spot. But if you're craving layered conflict, authentic family dynamics, or that heart-clutching kind of forbidden love? This probably isn’t it.

Like with most Hope Ford books that I’ve read now they always start off promising but then become mediocre in the middle and ott by the end.

Hope has been a bit of a hit or miss for me this year, but one thing that I do like about her books is how easy and simple they are to get through. They are the ultimate palette cleanser and the perfect read for if you’re falling behind on your reading challenges. 👍🏻

That was the main reason that I picked up this book. I was behind on my goal again and I knew I could rely on Hope to help me catch up. I’ve read from her 6 times now and I’ve had some good and some not so good books.

This one was not so good 😕. It all started off okay, intriguing characters, mild but cute spice and a small town setting (which I always love to read). But I thought that the middle was bland and by the end it felt like a rush, with over the top dialog thrown in. Abby and Davis weren’t that memorable for me and I felt both were going around in circles when it came to if they should be together or not. 😑

All in all this was fine but very mid and it doesn’t intrigue me to read the rest of the series. I say that but watch me still read them as I’m still behind on my goal and need some quick books to breeze through. 😅

If you’re a regular reader of Hope Ford then you’ll know what to expect from her writing. If you’re not then I’d still recommend if you need a palette cleanser as well as something to help you achieve your reading goal. This was short and sweet, it didn’t waste anytime in that department and the beginning was decent.

Abby Campbell believes she is doing a wellness check on a man, she has been in love with since she was a teen. Her brother, Zach calls while on a mission and says that after two years, Davis Jones is back home, in Whisky Run. He is living just a couple of miles away from her, and is working at, The Heroes Rehab Center. Two years ago, when he lost his leg, he wouldn’t allow anyone to see him.

It crushed her mom, and dad, his only family. She never included herself, as one count in the mix, she was only, Zach’s little sister. And yet, there she was knocking on his door. She knew because of her size she never, ever stood a chance with him. Not to mention a single mom. Oh yeah, then there is that stupid bro code, he would never cross.

Just the impact of seeing left her speechless. The next thing she knew he had her in a long tight bear hug. She felt that she needed to store, the whole experience in her memory. He tried to apologize for hugging her. She said not to worry about the hug, she had been nervous about stopping by. She thought he wouldn’t have a clue who she was and it was going to be awkward, so already this was better than she thought it would be.

They talk about what happened, and why he didn't want anyone to visit. Then he confessed why the last two years especially. Davis has had a crush on, Abby, too. But, he could never tell, Zach. He didn't want to disrespect him like that. This is a good book. Not only are fears overcome, demons are slain, crushes take bloom, and love blossoms.

Davis worked as a mercenary when a mission went terribly wrong, and only one member of the team walked away physically unhurt his bestfriend, Zach. Zach encouraged Davis to attend the rehabilitation center their boss had established in Zach's hometown. Davis had grown up in foster care so Zach's family had always treated him as part of their's. When Zach's sister Abby learned Davis was in town she wasted no time in going to see him even though he had turned her family away after he got hurt. She had always had a crush on him, but she needed to see him to make sure he was alright. He had lost a leg and became addicted to pain killers, but he was now clean for over a year. He worried if Zach's family would accept with his problems, and Abby deserved a better man than him little lone what Zach would say. A wonderfully written story of men trying to find their way back in to life after a turmeric experience.

What will her brother say? I loved this story so much. I was drawn in like I was watching a movie. I could feel Davis's anguish as well as the love this couple had for each other. The chemistry sizzled, and after a little drama, we got an amazing HEA. Anything by Hope Ford is amazing! I'm excited for this entire series!!.

Love is a sweet addiction when it is with the right person

Sweet Addiction is the first book in the Whiskey Men: Wounded Heroes series. This is a new spin-off set in the "Whiskey Run" world by Hope Ford. As always this book is a fabulously addictive reading experience. It envelopes you in the warm embrace of the whiskey men who may be wounded but will still pursue what they cherish the most, even if it may be costly. This story is about Abby Campbell and Davis Jones. She is a curvy singe mother who is also the younger sister of Zach, who is Davis' best friend. Two years ago Davis lost a leg in combat and then cut himself off from everyone. But now he is back in Whiskey Run and Abby goes to see him. It turns out that both of them have been crushing on each other for several years but with the "bro code" in place Davis would never cross that line. Will they take a chance on love and forever this time around?

This is not a redemption tale, although I suppose many may see it that way. Davis was in the military but was wounded. Like many in that situation he lost both himself and his sense of purpose. He could not see a way out and so choose to be numb to the pain but it became an addiction. He's clean now but has been scarred more by the addiction than the bomb. Abby has loved Davis for as long as she remember. If there was even so much as a whisper of a chance with him, she'd take it. It seems now that all the stars have aligned although they first have to survive it. These two are so beautifully written. You really sense the turmoil for Davis along with the vulnerability and fear. Abby Is wonderful as she tries to be herself as well as a mum. Her personality really comes through and you just know you'd want her on your side.

Abby and Davis' story is a sweet and steamy romance.

Abby is a strong single mother, who loves her daughter and her family. When her brother asks her to check on his friend, she did not realize Davis was back in town, but knew the injury he suffered.

Davis has been struggling since being injured, using meds and other substances to numb the pain of him losing his friend. After a year in Whiskey Run, Davis is clean, with Walker's help has also offered him a job. But first he needs to see the ones he pushed away.

Another amazing story, it shows the struggles and love Davis is facing to know that he has more people on his side than he believed. I loved Abby and Davis connection and passion. The support she has for him and his love for both Abby and her daughter warms my heart.

A sweet brothers best friend romance.
I'm glad the series has continued the whisky run journey, and we are getting some more bits to the puzzle of the rehab centre and Walker. (Slowly feeding us)
This was the story that I think was needed for Huddy. It showed a small glimpse of the therapy sessions and gym facilities that he should definitely be using, haha.
Abby was a strong FMC who knew what she wanted and went for it. Alexis was adorable. (Although I was a bit confused that a 4 year old was doing maths homework and they all just went along like it was normal).
I did want a little more back story on her ex and how that all came to be.
A bit more interaction with the past men and women from the other series would have been a good link to.
All round a good small town, brothers best friend, slight age gap romance read.

A great start to this new series, The Wounded Heroes. Davis and Abby have known each other for years as Davis is Abby’s brother’s best friend. Davis was injured on his last mission and has been fighting his way back for his addiction. Abby is a single mom and has had a crush on Davis for years. Now that he’s home in Whiskey Run she’s hoping that Davis will stay and they can finally try to be a family. Abby is a hard working, independent mom. Now that Davis is home and has explained what happened she’s ready to show him how much she loves him. Unfortunately Davis’ demons may rear their ugly heads and prevent him from having the HEA he deserves. A heartwarming story about strength and fighting for what you want and that the love of a family can be the best support and addiction. Things kind of happened on the quick side, but I did like it

The beginning was really strong with the setup of brother’s best friend and unrequited love. There was another layer on top of that of him being a wounded warrior. When they reunited the connection and feelings between them was instant. The whole family aspect I really liked.

Then things got sexual between them fairly quickly. For me personally, I needed a little bit more build up and angst before they went there. I thought that all the sexual stuff wasn’t as satisfying as the emotional connection between them. I wanted more of that emotional part to be the focus than the sexual.

There were some really cute moments especially with her daughter. I really liked her wanted to be a family almost immediately. I loved how he loved both of them. It was just very sweet and heartwarming.

Hope has delivered again! I have loved everything I've read of Hope's but I think this one has taken the top spot.

Abby is a single mum, loves her life and her family. So when he brother asks her to check in on his best friend it's no hardship. Especially as she's been drawn to Davis for years.
Davis is ex military, retired due to sustaining an injury on a mission. He's had to overcome some demons, but when Abby comes back into his life things are looking up. Can they be more than just friends?

I read this series out of order but I still enjoyed it so much. Davis is Abby’s brother’s best friend. She’s had a crush on him before she probably should have and really wants more with him once she realizes he’s back in town. Davis was in the military with Abby’s brother and grew up being a part of their family. He was injured in the line of duty and decided to come back to Whiskey Run. The amount of times this man asked Abby if she was okay was ridiculous. I understand she has a lot on her plate but dude chill. Abby is a single mom of a 6 year old little girl and has only ever been with her kids father. Seeing Abby & Davis grow closer and really open up to each other was so beautiful. I smiled and kicked my feet so much while reading this book. These books in this series are so simple but super sweet!

Truly enjoyed Davis and Abby's love story.
A validation true love never dies. They've loved each other since they were kids.
Davis loving his best friend's little sister. He was in the military and was injured. She was a single mom.
Reached at him once she knew he was in town. The sparks just went wild.
Lots of emotions lots of laughters. Truly felt the pain they both experienced. Communicating their feelings and what they were thinking really hit home they truly loved each other.
The secondary characters support made it heartwarming. This series has been amazing.The details in the stories you can envision the words. Characters so real.

Heart warming they did not give up on each other how everything came together found their way back. Found their happiness.
