It's a bird! It's a plane! It's a . . . pancake? The syrupy superhero of Breakfast Town, Peggy Pancake, is now up against her toughest, scariest obstacle babysitting.
When we last saw our hero Peggy Pancake, she was mastering her newfound superhero abilities and saving her sidekick, Luc Croissant, from the scary clutches of Dr. Evil Breakfast Sandwich and his sinister Henchtoasts. Now, Peggy balances being a superhero with her everyday life--going to school and hiding her crime-fighting identity from her family.
This Spring Break, Peggy has homework to write an instructional "How To" paper. Peggy's mom volunteers her to babysit five rambunctious mini muffins so she can write about "how to be responsible." That shouldn't be too bad, right?
But Peggy soon learns that she underestimated her responsibility...and created an accidental villian in the process. Can Peggy and Luc save Breakfast Town and all that is dear? Find out SUPER PANCAKE AND THE MINI MUFFIN MAYHEM!

This was such a cute graphic novel about Peggy Pancake student by day and a crime fighter Super Pancake with her sidekick Luc Croissant by night or on the side and during spring break ends up volunteered to babysit Mrs. Muffins 5 rambunctious mini muffins while juggling being a superhero. Peggy ends up taking the kids with her when she has to meet her mentor Professor Egg and the littles muffin ends up stealing a device that makes things mini/Big. Peggy ends up using being Super Pancake to help keep the kids occupied when she can’t wrangle them and Mini Muffin ends up using the device to make himself big but it makes him giant and when Peggy is sent out to deal with the monster she realizes that it is one of her kids. She ends up getting Mini back to normal and all is well. The illustrations for this were so cute and the end set up for the next book since Dr. Evil Breakfast Sandwich is still out there waiting to strike. Thanks to Random House for Children and Netgalley for the complimentary copy of this book. All opinions in this review are my own.
Thanks to Random House Children's, Knopf Books for Young Readers for the copy of this book!
I read this with my 6 and 8-year-olds in two sittings, and they loved it! It’s a graphic novel set up much like Dog Man, except in this book, we get lots of breakfast art and puns. Our favorite was the syrup car the pancake family drove. Both of my kiddos could read this - so it was a win for entertainment and reading practice!
Peggy Pancake is having to be responsible, but aren't all superheroes.
This book takes on haw challenging it can be to balance tasks, but in a fun way. The mini muffins were so cute!
Peggy find out how hard babysitting is and trying to get her paper done. My elementary school daughter loved all of the breakfast characters in this book and blazed through it in one sitting.
Hopefully we get more Peggy Pancake adventures in the future.
Thank you to Random House Children's and Netgalley for providing me a copy of this ARC for my honest review.
super-sweet-superhero heads into unexpected sticky situations in humorous and meaningful ways.
After finding her footing as a superhero in book one, Peggy Pancake is ready for new adventures, especially since she now has sidekicks to help her through. While she's hoping to take on a super villain, she needs to finish forgotten homework during the school vacation first. Worse, her parents aren't aware of her superhero secret and have arranged a babysitting job for her for the entire week. It seems her superhero awesomeness needs to be shoved aside and life will be boring, but she hasn't met Ms. Muffin's children yet.
I didn't get to read the first novel in this series, which wasn't a problem. This is an adventure to be enjoyed on its own...and what a fun one it is! Peggy Pancake and her friends are a great group, full of energy, and ready to offer superhero support whenever it's needed. Then, there's Peggy's family, with loving but sometimes bothersome parents (and parents tend to be), and a brother that Peggy cares about. Even the Muffins are sweet and kind. It's a wholesome read through and through, which offers a lovely support for the action and mounds of humor.
The author keeps Peggy's superhero aspects amazing and, yet, subtle enough to keep life's chaos difficult enough to overcome without super villains always jumping into the mix. She's doing her best to keep her identity a secret, and that warps the story in some silly, cute ways. Add the mini muffin chaos (these kids are a handful!) and it creates a quick-paced read with many surprises and tension...and all of that at a level suitable for chapter book readers.
This is a fitting read for those readers, who have a pretty good hold on their words, but aren't ready for longer, heavier reads yet. The vocabulary first the level nicely, and the speech bubbles are created in a way that makes them easy to read. The illustrations carry a simpler style, which fits very well to the atmosphere. Each scene brings across the moments with the needed humor or heart.
There are messages, too, surrounding friendship and responsibility, but it's the fun and humor which drive this read forward and make it a fun one to pick up.
Peggy Pancake is a superhero but also a pancake--complete with a dollop of syrup on her head and a golden glow on her face. Yes, I know it sounds rather strange, but it works just fine and the intended audience, probably first, second and third graders, will eat it all up. In this installment of the graphic novel series, the second book, Peggy is still trying to figure out exactly what it means to be a superhero while also dealing with ordinary life. While her brother Patrick spends their school break at sailing camp, Peggy has been assigned to babysitting duty the Mini Muffins. If this sounds easy enough, especially for a superhero, think again. Within the first few minutes of her time with the five little ones, Peggy is ready for reinforcements from her sidekicks, Kid Croissant, and Stanley, a firm piece of bacon. Filled with laughs and hijinks as well as a dash or two of science fiction, this book will amuse youngsters, especially those who also long to be superheroes.
My first grader and I dove into this for our bedtime book recently. I was expecting a quick 40-50 page graphic novel, but we were pleasantly surprised with a 100+ page adventure!
Super Pancake is a grade-school-aged superhero who has much to learn about responsibility. Her brother is off to sailing camp during a week-long school break, and her mother has signed her up to babysit the mini-muffins who live down the road. Super Pancake spends the week learning about how to prioritize tasks and become more responsible.
We spent 3-4 nights reading through this together. While my seven-year-old enjoyed it, I'm also planning to purchase this when it comes out for my classroom. My fifth graders will love this as well!
I had an opportunity to read an eARC of this graphic novel in exchange for my honest opinion. Special thanks to NetGalley and Random House for this opportunity!
Some things I particularly enjoyed about this book is that the main character is a superhero pancake who is also assumed to be female. The character faces real world issues having trouble completing her schoolwork and staying awake during class due to other activities and responsibilities. I think this is a reality that many kids have today and is very relatable. My only issue with this book is that it is part of a series and since I wasn’t familiar with the storyline from previous books, this one felt like I wasn’t as engaged in the story. Overall this was a fun and enjoyable story for any young reader.
Read a free ARC from NetGalley. This series is super cute. It’s appropriate for younger elementary school students. The illustrations are colorful and adorable. Peggy Pancake is a secret super hero. For Spring Break, she’s looking forward to relaxing and hanging out with her two friends. Unfortunately she has a homework assignment to complete and her parents set up a babysitting job for her for the entire week. She has to babysit the cutest little muffins, who are A LOT of work. When one gets hold of an experimental laser, trouble happens. Super Pancake and her friends eventually save the day.
Graphic Novel I received an electronic ARC from Random House Children's through NetGalley. Super Pancake has to spend her Spring Break working on homework and babysitting for five small muffins. Her friends Stanley and Kid Croissant, they take on the chaos of watching five active children. When the smallest muffin steals a enlarging ray, she sets off actions that Peggy (Super Pancake) has to stop. Action and humor combine for mid to upper elementary level readers. The brightly colored artwork offers a clear look at everything happening around the character interactions. A fun and ridiculous read that will entertain younger readers.
While the pictures in this book are very cute, bright, and fun, I didn't feel the story was really worth the while. There was a lot of whining by the main character about having responsibilities, that she then didn't do a very good job of actually taking care of. This results in a mess that I don't feel like she learns ANYTHING from in the end. I really prefer to add books to my library that have very good learning moments in them. I'm just sort of "eh" about this book. I'm sure kids would thoroughly enjoy the style of book though.
I was allowed to read an ARC through NetGalley, and all opinions are entirely my own.
Another great read from Megan Wagner Lloyd. When Peggy the Super Pancake is assigned babysitting duties to take care of the quintuplet muffins, Will she be strong enough to last or will she realize babysitting isn't what it's all cracked up to be. With her sidekick croissant and bacon buddy, maybe things will fizzle out. I loved the mayhem it brought to the story. This was an enjoyable read, fast and easy to follow. I received this advance reader copy so that I can give my honest feedback. I loved it so much can't wait to officially buy it when it comes out. Highly recommend it!
Peggy Pancake is back again as Super Pancake in the second book in this series. This time, she is figuring out how to babysit five mini muffins. Things are chaotic, but become even worse when one of them gets ahold of special technology that can make things bigger and smaller. Super Pancake must save the day again.
I haven't read the first one, but this was cute! This definitely is for a younger crowd, and I can see this being a good book for parents to read to their children. The illustrations are also very cute!
I received my copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I liked this book better than the first one. The tone seemed more respectful overall. Super Pancake Peggy gets stuck babysitting some mini muffins over her spring break. They are badly behaved, but Peggy and her friends find ways to motivate them to behave properly. Meanwhile, the egg professor person is having problems with a prototype. Good plot and characters. I like the friends. I wonder if the author was constantly overshadowed by an older sibling and that's why Peggy's parents are so obsessed with her older brother Patrick.
This is a cute graphic novel about Peggy Pancake who is spending her spring break babysitting so she can finish her homework on how to be responsible. The mini muffins she is babysitting cause some chaos, and Super Pancake and Kid Croissant come to save the day.
It's full of fun breakfast puns and plenty of action. My 7 year old loved the story and mini muffins and I loved that it included messages about responsibility. The illustrations were fun and colorful! Overall it was a really engaging book!
Megan Wagner Lloyd's "Super Pancake and the Mini Muffin Mayhem," gave me nostalgic vibes. In a manner that's reminiscent of Dav Pilkey and Jeff Kinney, Lloyd manages to tell a more creative and feminine superhero tale. And who doesn't love a book about breakfast food?! Adorably bad behaved mini muffins and a croissant sidekick? Sounds like an amazing gig! I'm confident that any further tales of Super Pancake will be just as amazing.
Lloyd's superhero Super Pancake is back in her second graphic novel for intermediate grade readers. In this story Peggy Pancake is set up for her first babysitting job watching over the 5 Mini Muffins. The five-day job is filled with many adventures that challenge Peggy. She does allow her superhero side Super Pancake to come out during the job. Abhi Alwar is back to draw the panels. Both the story and illustrations will draw kids in.
An interesting young graphic novel that emphasizes the importance of friendship, and being a responsible person. While the protagonist learns responsibility through babysitting and superheroing, the friends offer support and help as much as they can in both aspects. Overall, this is a book that seems to serve the purpose of being a gentle lesson to children on how to be a good person. It is a very easy, quick read and rather wholesome.
I received this book as an advanced reader copy. It does not affect my review in any way.
In a world where food is sentient, there lives Peggy Pancake and her friends. Over Spring Break in Breakfast Town, mayhem strikes! Peggy has to balance being a superhero with her everyday life of friends, school, and babysitting the mini muffins. Will she come out of this victorious? Or will she bungle her assignment and fail to turn in her homework on "How To"?
I read this graphic novel with my seven-year-old. We took turns doing voices and laughing at the antics of the mini muffins. It was a fun read and it kept my kid's attention well. We read two-three chapters each night until finished, as it's a little long for their reading level. The characters are enjoyable and relatable. The story is interesting and the art is beautiful. Overall, a good addition to a kids' book collection.
This book was so cute. It follows Peggy Pancake, who is a super hero babysitting for the mini muffins. One of the muffins is involved in an incident and chaos ensues for the city. Looking forward to another installment of Super Pancake in the future!
A delightful second edition to this very fun series. Each time we read it, we find a new detail that makes us laugh. Can't wait to get a hard copy for my family's collection.
ARC from the publisher via NetGalley, but the opinions are my own.
I like the themes of forgiveness and kindness being taught in this book. I also like how even though the characters are superheroes, they learn the hard lessons through sometime simple like babysitting--very relatable.
This one is a bit slower in the beginning. Less action til most of the way through. Still a wonderful story. Focuses on kindness, responsibility, and friendship.
Wow. Just wow. Got this during the scholastic book fair and it did not disappoint. It was so good, I immediately ordered the first one. Can’t wait for the third book coming out in November!
