Still Good

I read Harrison s books long ago and enjoyed them! I got some of his books referred to me by my book Bub app and was enticed to read this short 40 page novelette and ———- He’s still darn good! Captures your attention Immediately AND Holds it throughout the read! Now I’m going to be on a Harry Harrison binge run! Darn I have about four other books started that I wanted to finish soon. Oh well——- what will be, will be!

There were some things I really liked about this, but overall it felt a bit uneven. The story had a lot of promise, but some parts felt forced. It didn’t quite deliver the emotional impact I was expecting. Still, there were some great lines and memorable moments. Worth reading, but not unforgettable.

A fun read. Harrison was always a favorite, and he holds up well. Except when he tells us about the magazines and newspapers his narrator spread around the galaxy to bait the villains. I suppose in some alternate universe that might have happened. Interesting to consider--as we have to in this particular parallel universe--how many things we can't see coming, no matter how hard we try.

Good little read.

This was a fun short read that was well written and had a good storyline. They could have made this into a good book with some more writing and time. I still enjoyed it.

Cute Story

Interesting story with a good plot. Although only a short story, it contains limited but interesting characters. It is written in the early SF (mid 1950’s through mid 1960s) magazine style and shows how a well written short story can still be entertaining.

This was an absolute joy to read! The author’s voice is so distinct and refreshing, making every page a delight. The characters were vibrant, and their journeys were inspiring. I was left feeling both satisfied and wanting more. Truly a standout in its genre.

Slippery Jim di Griz saves the universe…again.

Once again Harry Harrison manifests a magnificent tale of how Slippery Jim di Griz saves the universe. Classically told story of the Stainless Steel Rat and when where why and how he does his magic. Loved it!

The Stainless Steel Rat was a staple of early 80's 2000AD and this is one of those stories that the galaxy's greatest comic adapted if memory serves.

Decent enough short story from Harry Harrison but not a patch on his Deathworld trilogy.
