🔆 சோழர்கள் குறித்து அவர்களின் வாணிபம், படையெடுப்பு , கட்டுமானங்கள், கலைகள் பற்றி ஆய்வு செய்த இந்திய மற்றும் வெளிநாட்டு ஆய்வாளர்களின் கட்டுரைத் தொகுப்பு தான் இந்த புத்தகம்.

🔆 இந்திய கண்டத்தில் கிடைத்த கல்வெட்டுகளில் 60 சதவீதத்துக்கு அதிகமான கல்வெட்டுகள் தமிழ்நாட்டில் தான் கிடைத்திருக்கிறது. தமிழகத்தை முழுவதுமாக ஆண்ட முதல் அரசு சோழ பேரரசு தான்.

🔆 சோழ அரசர்களில் ராஜ ராஜன் மற்றும் ராஜேந்திரன் குறித்து நாம் அனைவரும் அறிவோம். இன்னும் சில அரசர்கள் அரசவைப் புலவர்கள், அவர்கள் செய்த பணி பற்றியும் அறிந்து கொள்ள முடிந்தது. 1279 ல் மூன்றாம் ராஜேந்திரனோடு சோழர்களின் சாம்ராஜ்யம் முற்றுப்பெற்றது.

🔆 சோழர்கள் கடைசியாக தீவுக்கோட்டை அருகே வாழ்ந்தார்கள் . அதற்கான ஆதாரங்கள் உள்ளன. சோழ வம்சாவளியினரின் பேட்டியை YouTube- ல் காணலாம்.

🔆 வேறு சில புத்தகங்கள் மூலமாக சோழர்களைப் பற்றி தெரிந்து இருந்தாலும் பல புதிய தகவல்களை தெரிந்து கொள்ள முடிந்தது. சோழர்களைப் பற்றி புதிதாக படிக்க விரும்புகிறவர்கள் இந்த புத்தகத்தை படிக்கலாம்.

Brilliant introduction of the Imperial Cholas to the Young Readers,in a lucid way through Q & A format. I'm happy that this was my first read of 2024. It covers a wider perspective as it includes Chapters on Land Control,Caste System,Religion,Fine Arts,Irrigation,Performing Arts,Political Geography,Political Economy,Political Administration,Oceanic Trade, Maritime Expedition,Temples etc.

I find Chapters written by Gomathi Nayagam,Ashok Vardhan Shetty,Sivasubramaniam,Arumuga Thamizhan,PA Krishnan,Jeyamohan fresh and enriching.

The part titled 'Messengers of Cholas' rightly lists out Arthur Cotton,Sastri,Pandarathar,Kalki,Noboru Karashima,Kudavayil among others.

The above part could have included Govindasamy,who made a chance discovery of the invaluable Chola murals which were superimposed by Nayak Paintings, in 1930s.

Also on Hultzsh,who announced that it was Rajaraja who built the Big temple,which was not even known by the local Tamils,who have long forgotten their own past.It was suprising to learn that an European who learnt the reading of Medieval Tamil, to make this discovery with locals making no efforts all the while.

And finally,a Chapter on the Fall of Cholas who ruled South India,for nearly 450 years should have been a no-brainer and it is a conspicuous left out.

Though I'm not from the Chola Country,neither do I live there,Yet the Cholas did unite me with the former,as they reached the pinnacle of all things, தமிழ்.

Eyes welled up,as I flipped through the pages of Paramu Pushparatnam,when he talked about how the Chozhas ended up being reviled by the majority Buddhists,and how they were more proud than the people in the mainland,and that they feel they are the descendants of Cholas.

Hats off to Samas,for pulling off,this one.

This Book gives a wide view about the Ancient rulers Cholas and their relation with their neighbouring states, based on the Archeological evidence and this book also records the voice of many archeologists and Researchers. Tho' it's view is from the point of Cholas, we can also come to know about Pallavas,Pandiyas,Cheras, Ashoka,Maurya inscriptions and their relations. This will help to understand the base of ThamizhNadu and its siblings.
