Will Murray is an American novelist, journalist, and short-story and comic-book writer. Much of his fiction has been published under pseudonyms. Will is the author of over 50 novels in popular series ranging from “The Destroyer” to “Mars Attacks”. Collaborating posthumously with the legendary Lester Dent, he has written to date nine Doc Savage novels, with “Desert Demons” and “Horror in Gold” now available. For National Public Radio, Murray adapted “The Thousand-Headed Man” for “The Adventures of Doc Savage” in 1985, and recently edited “Doc Savage: The Lost Radio Scripts of Lester Dent” for Moonstone Books. He is versed in all things pulp.
Will Murray has already treated us to two wild volumes in this series, but this one goes where neither he—nor Mr. Sherlock Holmes—have gone before.
The cover alerts you to the main event—a visit from our Martian friends from The War of the Worlds. But Murray breaks new ground here: it’s NOT the same old War. Roughly ten years have passed, and those slithery Martians are back to try again. This new War requires two stories to tell, comprising about 60 pages of the book. And Mycroft Holmes joins the fight, as the fate of England—and the world—hangs in the balance. The intrepid Mr. Murray has really outdone himself here.
As if Martian World War II weren’t enough, this collection boasts four adventures featuring a devilish new adversary named Giles Greengold. This guy is no Moriarty clone. He’s an agent for governments both foreign and domestic, and a genuine thorn in Sherlock’s side. Not only can he invade the inner sanctum of 221B at will, but his dastardly minions are seemingly everywhere.
And Murray’s literary roots are on full display. There’s an all-new adventure of the Grey Seal (Frank L. Packard’s masked crime fighter from the early 1930s), guest-starring Holmes in disguise. Other stories have ties to Doc Savage, H.P. Lovecraft and Jules Verne. That’s right! You’ll see the return of Richard Henry Savage, the real-life inspiration for the bronze guy. You’ll be shocked down to your socks at what happens when Holmes meets Lovecraft’s mad scientist Herbert West. And the Verne thing is too cool to even hint at.
Plus! An outbreak of cholera decimates London, sending our heroes scrambling for answers. And we’re introduced a certain Lady Gravel, a female every bit as cunning as Irene Adler—and one we appear destined to meet again.
All ten of these stories will absolutely entertain you. Some will amaze you. At least one will rattle the Sherlockian world. Don’t delay! Procure yourself a copy of The WILD Adventures of Sherlock Holmes today.
