A young girl whose father died before her eyes. A veteran, haunted by his past misdeeds.
As the world burns down around them, they will be forced to wok together - or succumb to the flames.
A new blend of metals was promised to be stronger and last longer than traditional steel ever could - until it started breaking down into hyper-combustible byproducts.
Thousands of miles of pipelines go up in an instant, their chain reactions setting of fires that destroy cities, crumble buildings and reduce the civilized world to ash.
As the survivors pick through the ruins of their world, one mother will stop at nothing to rescue her children - even if that means traversing the country to find them.
Meanwhile, deep in the Everglades, protected from the destruction ravaging the world by his guilt and penance, one man will hold the salvation of a young girl in the palm of his hand.
Overall I enjoyed the story so far. The plot was nice, the writing decent, the descriptiveness of surroundings nice... however, the cast of characters so far lacked a bit in terms of diversity, development and well.... character... some felt a bit too one dimensional for my tastes.
I find premises about mistakes in our tech that cause disaster interesting. Rapid development of technologies, impatience for deployment with some elements of greed and nefarious intent all provide fertile ground for disaster in fiction and in real-life. A synthetic substance that is better than steel is an interesting plot but there is no explanation as to why collapse, fire etc all happens at the same time, everywhere. A timed degradation would not explain it since the rollout of Polysyn would not have been at the same time, everywhere. This bothered me the entire book. I was not fond of the characters so far. Jacob is morose and combative, though suddenly willing to be friendly with his ex-wife's new beau. Marcus had a lot of potential but we didn't get to see him for long. Scout is more annoying than anything, refusing help which she would need to get from Florida to Maine (perhaps geography is not her strong suit). Jean makes a surprising decision to drive into danger with a young son. As a mom, I would want to rescue my older daughter, but probably not endanger another child to do so. Holly has a lot of potential, though her survival from the building was just short of an unbelievable miracle. I like the author, so will likely continue to see what happens.
Opening chapter was an adrenalin opener. Meeting characters liking them, losing them. Then the story fell into place of a family spread out across the Eastern United States when explosions started in their areas. They assumed it was local. Then reality started to set in. Each knew they had to leave their area and head to find family members many miles away.
This book is about each adventure of the family in search for each other. They covered many miles, meet the good, bad and unexpected people in that journey. Never guessed what would come next because it was all unexpected.
Very good book, easy read, comfortable length. Now I'm going on my search to find book 2. Enjoy! RJK
A riveting introduction to the dystopian, post-Apocalyptic saga, that sees protagonists and their fellow-survivors race to escape the eponymous Inferno, that seems to herald the end of the world - and to be reunited with loved ones, separated by miles, but still holding on to the hope that all will survive against the odds. Who will make it through the death and danger that's all around? To find out, grab your copy of Inferno, Book 1 of Justin Bell and Mike Kraus' excellent Echoes of the End series right now - and check your smoke alarm batteries, just in case, before you go to bed tonight!
The characters in the book grew from their challenges. At times most were annoying but that seemed to serve well in their development. The authors made them very human in their thoughts, speech, and actions. I appreciated the honesty in these characters. Scout’s intensity to be on her own, to try to see her dad again after the first night had a trueness to her character (as I perceived in her evolution). The background’s environment in visuals and sound carried the depth of picture. The book had a cinematic resonance that pulled me in. I’ve read multiple apocalyptic novels and serials and only some of them have reached the cinematic level of this book.

Seeing as it’s a post apocalyptic survival thriller you’d expect battles, chases, families fractured, and searches for loved ones. You get all of that and more. How it’s all handled is key and this book is written by two authors who really know their stuff. It’s going to be tough waiting for the next book!
Fabulous book. I read it in one .one sitting. Very well written and not so much like the other end of the world books. I never meant to read the whole thing knowing it was so long but I couldn't put it down bravo! Looks like it continues but I dare not start the next book or I MA Y go blind or starve to death. Ha thanks Mike and justin.
This is a review of the audiobook, the story was good, different from other apocalyptic stories, not just a typical power fails, society falls apart, evil gang follows the main character, etc. The AI auditor is ok, I've heard worse. My only issue is that none of the other books in the series are available on audio.
All too real apocalyptic-societal collapse details, thrilling action, great family characterizations & the events around them. The premise or reason for the catastrophe is a bit of a stretch- for me.
I discovered this author several years ago and have read most of his books. This novel is an exciting nail biting adventure cover to cover. Characters are strong females who are confident they can handle themselves and do. I look forward to reading the installment.
Interesting story but…too much description of the disaster (the burning buildings, the smoke the collapse, etc.) and clothing, etc. Got to be boring and had to skim a lot. Not sure I care what happened to the characters in the next book. Probably won’t read it.
Great intro to this series. It grabbed my attention right from the start and had me hooked to the end. I love all the main characters and I am excited in reading more of what they'll go through. If you're looking for an interesting and riveting read I highly recommend this book.
I like a good disaster book, but it's nothing without caring for the characters. This has them searching for each other despite horrendous scenes. Family, survival, struggle and circumstance make this a good read.
Book Review: Inferno: Echoes of the End Book 1: (A Post-Apocalyptic Survival Thriller) Kindle Edition by Justin Bell (Author), Mike Kraus (Author) Format: Kindle Edition This is a great action novel. The description of destruction is superb.
Some parts seemed longer than they needed to be, but generally really liked it. I like how resourceful the kids are. Not sure I agree with what Jean did, but I'm also a mom, so I get it. Will continue the series of course.
This introduces us to many of our characters and tells us about their strengths and weaknesses. Jean and her son leave due to the fire. Jacob is in the middle of the explosion. Scout and her father in the air port. What's next?
What an amazing story. Full of intrigue and suspense and danger. A world that is burning. The survivors need to work together or it won’t work. I was completely drawn in.
I struggled with Inferno unfortunately, I found it boring in places and I'm surprised because I love both authors and have a lot of their books. When it was exciting it was excellent but some parts were just mundane for me. Very good basis to the story but the characters didn't hit it off for me. I'm not sure about Ignition yet. Sorry guys but not the best of your books.
