Mallory Newell is young, ambitious, and rising fast as an editor at a large New York publishing house. When it’s announced that one of the world’s bestselling authors is seeking an editor to join her for the holidays at her island paradise in Bora Bora, Mallory believes she is the logical choice.
Her boss has other ideas.
Instead of Bora Bora, Mallory is sent to Kansas City to help hometown sportswriter Jake Springer complete a romance novel started by his late grandmother. He knows nothing about writing love stories. Mallory knows nothing about Kansas City. Neither particularly wants to work with the other. She views Jake as a nobody out to make a few bucks off his grandmother’s fame. He sees Mallory as arrogant and dismissive of the city he calls home.
Somehow, they must push past their personal conflicts and finish the book before Christmas. And along the way, Jake's romance novel just might become real life.
MEET PAUL AND ROBIN WOOTTEN, THE COUPLE BEHIND EVERY ROBIN PAUL HOLIDAY ROMANCE
Robin is a nurse, mom, and Mimi whose love for romance creates the ideas behind the stories. Her day job as a nurse has evolved from being a labor and delivery nurse to traveling around the world teaching future doctors and nurses about keeping patients safe. When not cooking or spending time with her five grandkids, Robin enjoys reading a great romance novel at the beach, or curling up on the couch for a weekend afternoon of Hallmark movies.
Paul is the guy who puts the words on paper. He became a full-time writer in 2015 and published seven books before collaborating with Robin. He previously worked as a teacher, school administrator, and in various capacities for the Kansas City Royals. He likes reading, movies, and rooting for the Royals and Tampa Bay Rays. He and Robin split their time between Lakewood Ranch, Florida and Kansas City.
I found this book from a Facebook ad and decided to give it a try. I thought it was a little light on KC details, especially as one of the authors is from here. Their story was cute and I enjoyed the story within the story. I wouldn’t necessarily avoid books by this author but I won’t be seeking out their backlist either.
I saw an IG ad for this book and had to read it (since I’m from Kansas City). It was actually really fun reading about my city! There were a ton of KC references. The story itself was cute. I think the KC details kept me more engaged than the actual plot. It was a cute, quick read!
