I love Simon and Garfunkel which is why I found this book fascinating. True the writing did let it down a little at times: repetitions, a few strange phrases, and the, at times, infuriating habit of just giving a little of songs on a particular album with little else. But just for the insights into the two singers this book really was worth the read.

Interesting. A walk down memory lane.
Before beginning to read the book I could only name 2 or 3 of their songs. I was pleasantly reminded as I read how many of their songs done both together and separately that I knew.

Simon & Garfunkel by Victoria Kingston is an epic biography of perhaps the best duo in music history. The book chronicles Paul Simon and Arthur Garfunkel’s music career from the Tom and Jerry days to their fateful separation and on through their careers as solo artists. Kingston provides background and commentary on each of their epic songs and albums. The first two-thirds of the book is pure joy to read. The last third is somewhat painful. Not because of Kingston’s writing, but because of the story. They were big, really big but could not stay together. I don’t believe that they were never as good, as famous, or inspirational as solo artists as they were as a duo. The book is fun to read, bringing back all those wonderful songs and the stories behind them. But like all good things, it all came to an end.
