After it's all said and done, I really liked this story. I did predict what would happen to a character, but it was still brutal. No sex scenes which I don't personally mind in romances so that didn't bother me. This is a dark romance. There are a plethora of triggers that should be minded.

This is a story about a girl who picked a guy to be her person and who wouldn't give him the opportunity to refuse to be her person. Eve is the only daughter in a mafia family. She's used to getting what she wants. In fact, her family will bend over backwards to give in to her wishes. She decides she wants David. This book is about how David navigates being the object of obsession, where saying “no thanks” isn't an option. This is his story.

Like I said, I really enjoyed the story. 5/5 stars there. Unfortunately, there were so many grammar/editing errors that it was pretty unforgivable. My rating has been lowered because of them.

LOVE IT. Maybe it's problematic of me, but I really like those relationships that really shouldn't work but they kinda do anyways. Eve is straight up girl-bossing this whole book and I love it. I like the element of danger that puts stress on both David and the relationship itself. Also, I love the brother, Wuhan. I'm not sure if he supposed to be likeable or not but he's def a fave.

Toxic Romance with a touch of suspense. I really enjoyed this book! To David Eve isn’t everything… but to Eve David is everything and she will not let him go. I love a fictional toxic relationship LOL. Once the secrets started coming out this book really drew me in. I am mainly a dark romance reader, so I was hoping for a bit more crazy from Eve, I like my psychos really psycho LOL. But that’s my own preferences! I really enjoyed Cassie’s writing, and the plot was really alluring. I did find the chapters to be pretty long at times, which made reading the book take a little longer than usual. I did find the ending to be a tad rushed, and feel like an epilogue would have helped with closure. But I do know there’s more to the series, so perhaps it was intentional! Over all I really enjoyed this book! And absolutely recommend it!

After being in a bit of a reading slump, I saw this book on TikTok and decided to check it out. I started reading it last night and finished this morning. It has been a long time since it has been hard for me to put down a book, but I truly struggled every time I had to stop reading. The story grabbed my attention from the beginning and had me in a chokehold all the way through. There were points I found myself holding my breath.

David is an average man living an average life, until one day he runs into a beautiful woman named Eve walking her dog at his apartment complex. They exchange numbers and soon go out for date where he decides she was sweet but not a right fit for him. However, after a series of events they do start dating, even though it still feels a little off. And once Eve’s family is involved in the mix the whole situation gets a lot more complicated.

While the story is mostly told from David’s point of view, we do also get glimpses of Eve’s take on the same situations. I appreciated Alford’s ability to make them sound like two very different people. David’s account of the twisted events read very natural, like I was hearing the story of a crazy girlfriend and her dangerous family from a friend. I grew to like him as a character which made some of the decisions he makes throughout the story all the more frustrating (in a good way). Eve could have been incredibly one note, but I found that she was also handled well, given more depth than I’ve seen in stories like this. I also really enjoyed the supporting cast in this. Wuhan, Eve’s brother especially so and I’m glad there will be a sequel about him as there is so much there!

I thought the pacing worked for this as well. I never felt like we stayed in one scene too long and we were given enough information to start putting things together while still having a few surprises. There were a few elements that may point out required some suspension of disbelief, but honestly the story was so engrossing and I was so excited to see how everything turned out this was not an issue for me.

If I had to point out any issues, I did tread this on kindle and there did seem to be a lot of formatting issues. I’m not sure what causes that but while it was obvious enough I noticed it it did not take away from the story for me. I did also feel like the chapter lengths were a little confusing, some feeling like they were way too long and should have been broken up, but this is just a nit pick to be honest.

There is a lot more I’d love to comment on, but it would definitely venture into spoiler territory and I think part of the enjoyment of this books for me was not knowing what I was getting into. I found this to be such a fun read and loved the way all the pieces came together.

4.25/5 stars

So this is one of the few dark romances that I have read that I actually enjoyed. I liked the power dynamic between Eve and David, the push and pull from both sides. The characters were frustrating, but in a way all dark romance characters are; but I still enjoyed them. Eve and David definitely have a toxic relationship: Eve stalking, planning a future, and never letting David leave whereas David is manipulating, and knows that this relationship isn’t good but stays in it.

I lied seeing how David changed throughout the story. He went from an innocent man, to one who is now a part of a mob family. He even disposes of his friend at the end of the book, which I thought would happen. I liked seeing him realize the relationship isn’t good, but he’s selfish in that he wants to not be alone and will take what they give him. He’ll stay in a family that has harmed him in many ways just so he can have what he wants as well.

I will say I also liked Wuhan and I can’t wait to read his book! I liked how he changed from someone David was scared of and hated, to actually being close enough to him yet still realizing what family he is from.

I so want to say there were a few typos and formatting issues throughout the book. Some words that weren’t capitalized, random letters that should have been deleted, and very large spacing issues. This didn’t take away from the fact that I enjoyed this book. Clearly cause I read this all in one day 😅

Absolutely amazing. Usually most books in the beginning are slow for me but I didn’t have this problem at all with this book. I thought it was fast paced and kept me hooked the whole time. I love how wu’s and David’s relationship grows throughout the book and I’m SUPER excited to read “Wuhan” next! I love how CRAZY eve is and I think Eve and David play each other’s game very well!! I have super mixed emotions about the end with David pushing Jess into the water but I know he “had no choice” but still!!! Hopefully there is a follow up book on these two because i’d love to see if David gets more involved into the family business!

This isn't my normal book I'd go towards, but I found this author on tiktok. I'm a romance reader, and this was a twisted romance. Eve made her own fate. I could never guess where the plot was going. I love how it has eves point of view and David's so we can see what they are thinking because they both aren't on the same page at first. This does contain some violence and gang/mafia type stuff, not to gory. Highly recommend this.

I never read so many pages in a day so effortlessly. This book had me so anxious at times. The characters literally had me yelling at them. David I can’t with you man, I literally can’t think about you no more! Wuhan???

I will be starting the next book immediately upon waking. I gotta finish this series within the next few days.

This book was excellent, exciting, anxiety filled, left me wondering what this man was thinking the whole book.

I couldn’t put this book down! This book follows David, who meets a pretty girl named Eve. By the time he realizes things aren’t what they seem, it’s too late for him to back out.

I love the storytelling, love the characters, and I cannot wait for the next one! This author definitely has best seller potential.

This book captured my attention from the start. The characters were well developed and interesting to read about. The author made you like and hate them at the same time. Can’t wait for the next book.

Wow! This is my first time reading dark romance and I loved it! The story was so fast-moving while still taking the time to develop the characters. Wuhan is definitely my favorite character, and I can’t wait to read the sequel that focuses on him! The Persch family is so interesting and I’m looking forward to reading more about them.

Okay so the ending pushed this book from a two to a three star for me.
The book needs some massive editing. Like a huge overhaul of the story, especially in the beginning. There’s a lot of strange phrasing, incorrect spelling/grammar, and a ton of telling versus showing. This doesn’t get massively better as the story goes on but the story itself gets more interesting.
David is only a sympathetic protagonist at the end, otherwise he can be pretty dull. Which is why we’re reminded, multiple times repeatedly, that Eve chose him. He gets far more interesting once Jess is involved.
If I’m being honest, I only found David likable when he was talking with Jess or Wuhan. Those were always the most natural interactions for me.
The reason I rated it a three rather than a two star was because the last several chapters had me on the edge of my seat. I was terrified for David the whole time and was hoping Wuhan would come to his rescue. It was a very solid ending and it was enough for me to immediately purchase the next book from Amazon. I’m especially excited since Wuhan was my fave character out of the bunch and I’ve heard it’s even better than Eve.
All in all a solid book but it just needs quite a bit of revision including line editing and developmental editing.

Toxic romance at its finest!

Eve is a woman who knows what she wants and she has a powerful family who helps her get it. When she sets her sights on David she has to have him by any means necessary. David is instantly charmed by Eve, not love at first sight, but he’s definitely interested. But after meeting the Persch family, David finds himself stuck with Eve. This story is the tale of the manipulative ways of Eve and David finding out that she’s a lot more than just a pretty face.

What an interesting story!! Eve is just WILD!! The story is told in mostly David’s point of view but there are chapters where we get a glimpse of Eve’s side of things. The author did a wonderful job showcasing a toxic romance with a side of Stockholm syndrome. Wuhan (Eve’s brother) was a fantastic character and I can’t wait to read his book! I love the LGBTQ+ representation! Excellent pacing, the chapters were the perfect length for me. I read this mostly in one sitting! I’m giving it 5 stars!

Cassie has done it! She has absolutely turned my world inside out. She has created a mafia story that is unlike any I’ve read before.
Usually it’s the girl forced to marry, or traded to make peace. Usually it’s the fierce daughter who falls in love with the forbidden guy. But THIS…. This freaking book has defied all stereotypical mafia style stories. And I LOVED EVERY minute of it! David is a sweet guy who is just looking to date a pretty girl when Eve makes herself known in a BIG way. She turns his world upside down and her family isn’t quick to let his transgressions go. Don’t mess with the Persch family, or you’ll regret ever knowing them.
Maybe that makes me a twisted person, but going through all of the events and emotions that David felt just made me love this more and more. I can’t wait to read Wuhan next - I really need more of him.

A fun and fast read with an emphasis on TOXIC. This isn’t the darkest romance I’ve read but anyone wanting to step a toe in dark romance could handle this.

I was disappointed that Eve was not the main one telling this story. I understand the story would really have been a horror book from her pov but I was more interested in her voice than David’s.

I was a little tired of every chapter of David ending in some explicit foreshadowing about how scary Eve is. She’s wasn’t until *spoiler* the last 150 pages. And she was fun scary! Loved her becoming unhinged but I think I would have liked it more if it was not brought up by David at every turn.

Wu and Liling are very compelling and steal the narrative from the other characters. That’s what will keep me reading.

This was a quick read & kept me wanting to know what happened next. Unfortunately, it’s riddled with blatant grammatical errors; missing words, missing punctuation, & more. Please get a better editor! Once or twice is easy to ignore but every other page felt like an unfinished draft because of it.

I definitely found it interesting enough to read the other books in this series to see what happens next. I really liked Wuhan’s character & am excited that the next book appears to be focused on him!

It took me a while to really get into this book, but I enjoyed it for the most part. The Kindle edition needs some SERIOUS proofreading; there’s typos and missing words galore. That being said, the story pulls you in. I do wish we had more of Eve’s perspective, because we knew what she was doing before David did so like. Gimme the juicy details. Poor Jess though 😭 she was one of the few sane ones 💀

OMG. please check CW and TW before starting this one definitely not for the faint of heart. The beginning started out calm and slow as we got to know Eve and David but boy half way through I felt the intensity ramp up. I could not put this book down trying to see how things were going to play out!!! I cannot wait to get more of the Persch family.

Eve is viscous, cruel, and the cutest little psycho you will ever meet. David is in way over his head. This is a story about the Persch family plain and simple. You will love absolutely everything about this book!

Everyone is a red flag and I love it!

Eve wants the picture perfect relationship so she can take over her parent’s “business”.

David found himself in a relationship that he can’t get out of.

Does he really want out is the question?!

I was incredibly impressed by this first book in the series. The prose is easy to follow and the characters go on a wild ride. I was yelling at David more times than I could count. Worth the read, so why haven’t you read it?
