Genre Young Adult | Small Town Romance

I can’t even begin to describe just how much I LOVED THIS BOOK. It has taken me MONTHS just to finish a book in less than a week but this one has changed EVERYTHING. I hope I’m going to be on a reading streak and find more books that are as INCREDIBLE as this one because I need it! WOW! If you enjoy young adult, small town romances then drop EVERYTHING and pick this book up! You won’t regret it! It’s one of those books that settles deep in your soul , drags all your feelings to the surface, and makes your heart go pitter patter. Laura Pavlov is a new to me author and the fact that she was able to sweep me off my feet with this incredible story makes me want to read EVERYTHING by her! I am so excited (which hasn’t been a feeling I’ve had when it comes to books in MONTHS). Ahh! I loved it!

So, I went into this book blind and while I don’t think it’s necessary for others to do so, I am glad I did. I think it’s because it allowed me to experience the story without preconceived notions and I never knew where it was going to go. This is NOT an angsty read by any means, but it does have a lot of emotion behind the story. I think its part coming of age, part finding yourself, and part falling in TRUE love for the very first time. The heroine is the kindest character I think I’ve ever come across and the boy she falls in love with is an unexpected ANGEL. I just… GOSH I loved it more than I can express.

I know my review is rambling a bit, but I don’t know how else to express my feelings without spoiling the story in any other way.

If you enjoy books by Emma Scott , Ginger Scott, Kate McCarthy, Colleen Hoover (YUP, I said it and I mean it 😊 ), and Katie McGarry then I HIGHLY recommend reading his one!

Frayed by Laura Pavlov – 3.75 Stars
(Audiobook edition – aka my palate cleanser)

Sometimes you need a book that’s not going to emotionally destroy you, but still keeps you entertained enough that you don’t doom scroll mid-chapter. Frayed was exactly that: a breezy, addictive, slightly ridiculous but oh-so-fun high school romance. Basically, the literary equivalent of sneaking into the kitchen at midnight for cake and telling yourself it’s “self-care.”

First off, I did this on audio, and bless the narrators—they nailed the banter, the sass, and the steamy bits without making me want to crawl out of my own skin (a real audiobook risk, if you know you know). I was grinning half the time, rolling my eyes the other half, but never tempted to hit pause.

Plot-wise, we’ve got your classic small-town romance, complete with sparks, baggage, and a whole lot of “why do they fight it when it’s so obvious to the rest of us?” The chemistry worked, the sass was strong, and the drama? yes please—it was just the right amount of messy without veering into “throw the Kindle at the wall” territory.

Now, is it deep literature that’ll change my life? Absolutely not. Did I care? Absolutely not. Sometimes you need a palate cleanser that hits the romance buttons while still sprinkling in enough heat to keep you awake past bedtime. Mission accomplished.

Why 3.75 and not higher? Well, a few tropes felt reheated, and occasionally the drama felt more like a CW teen show than grown adults making rational decisions. But honestly, that’s half the fun of it—watching people who should know better act like they don’t.

Verdict: Fun, fast, sassy, and a total reset read. Frayed didn’t blow my mind, but it did hit the spot—and in between heavier reads, that’s exactly what I needed.

“That was something. Maybe it’s because we’ve both been thinking about it for a while?” I covered my eyes with my hand when I realized what I said. “I mean, I’ve been thinking about it for a while.” He stopped at my back door leading to the basement and set me on my feet. “I’ve been thinking about kissing you since you gave me half of your peanut butter and jelly sandwich in third grade.”

guys GUYS GUYS i’ve been in a slump for MONTHS and haven’t had a 5 ⭐️ book since august! so this made me so so happy.

this book was everything i needed.. i audibly screamed. i kicked my feet. i cried. it was a roller coaster of emotions.

i haven’t read a HS romance from Laura Pavlov yet but TRUST this won’t be my last (hoping she has more)

“It’s okay if the edges fray a bit. That’s part of life.”

4.5 stars

This is such a beautiful book! An emotional YA coming-of-age story with a gorgeous romance, these characters stole my heart, and I adored their story!

This is the first book in the Willow Springs series, centred around a group of five girls who have grown up together in their small Texas town, and who are starting their senior year of high school, preparing to embrace all that life has to offer.

Adelaide Edington is the Mayor’s daughter, and is the quintessential good girl. Her life was mapped out for her before she was even born, and she has been following the plan as expected – even dating the son of her mother’s best friend as planned.

Jett Stone has lived in Willow Springs his whole life, but his life couldn’t be more different from Adelaide’s. The son of a single mother who has pretty much been shunned by the town, he is a gruff and broody, motorcycle-riding bad boy who enters illegal fights to make money to help his family. But he’s a good guy, and he’s working hard at school and playing football so he can get away from the town he hates so much and build a good life for him and his family.

Adelaide and Jett have known each other since they were children, but have never really travelled in the same circles. Senior year, and a surprisingly entertaining math nerd, bring them back into each other’s lives, and when Adelaide’s perfect world begins to crumble, Jett is there for her. They become friends and, with Jett, Adelaide beings to truly think about her life, about what she wants, and what she could possibly have. And suddenly her heartbreak becomes a turning point in her life, where she begins to discover who she is, and finds the strength to fight for what she wants.

I know what I want now.
And I’m ready to spread my wings and fly.

It’s a significant journey for Adelaide, and it’s real, emotional and very relatable. Her feelings of hope and excitement wrestle with her fear of letting down the people in her life, creating an emotional and realistic story, and I really felt for her and she makes her way through it all. She has some intense family issues to deal with, and she feels deeply, and I thought her story was beautifully written.

And through it all, Jett is there for her. It’s not something he does intentionally, it just happens. He wants out of town, and he doesn’t want to get involved with anybody or anything that is going to tie him to it. And then along comes Adelaide, completely upending his world, making him see things in a new light, and making him want something he’s never wanted before – a true connection with somebody, stability, a relationship - and it messes with him.

I was irritable about the whole situation. About how hanging out with Adelaide made me feel. Made me want things I had no business wanting. Yet, I couldn’t seem to stay away from her.

The feelings growing between them are honest, real and all-consuming. Neither of them can fight what they’re feeling, and they don’t want to, and we get this absolutely beautiful love story that completely captured my heart.

Now that I was discovering who I was, and what I wanted – I was learning to trust my instincts for the first time in my life.
And I wanted Jett.

I don’t know how it happened. But she was mine.
And nothing had ever felt more right.

I love YA romances. There’s this sense of wonder about them as two people fall in mad love for the first time, and Jett and Adelaide together are just magic. They are open with each other about everything, there’s no stupidness or game playing, there’s just this raw honesty and a need to be everything to each other, and it’s so beautiful to see.

“You’ve already got my heart, Ace. And you can take it with you wherever you go. I’m yours. Where you go to school doesn’t change that.”

It was more than love.
Jett Stone was…everything.

But things aren’t great for Adelaide at home. Not everybody is happy with her embracing her freedom and independence, and there are battles ahead for both her and Jett.

I was so blissed-out reading this book, but I also had this sense of dread, waiting for a big thing to happen, because I knew it couldn’t all be glorious love and friendship. There is some drama, and it brings the feels, but it makes absolute sense for the story, there is no unnecessary angst or stupid, it’s realistic, it continues Adelaide’s journey, and I loved the emotion it brings.

“It’s okay if the edges fray a bit. That’s part of life.”

Through it all, Adelaide’s girls are there. Supporting her, encouraging her, and living her life with her. This is an amazing friendship, these girls share everything, and though I was initially fearful that it would be a bit cheesy, these girls are sassy and spunky, and they have the type of friendships that everybody should have.

This is my first book by Laura Pavlov, and I loved her writing. This book is emotional, sweet, dramatic, uplifting, and gorgeously emotional. I loved Adelaide and Jett as characters, I feel like I really got to know them, and I loved their beautiful story.

She was mine.
Always had been.
Always would be.

I’m looking forward to continuing on with this series, and am really excited that the next book will be for Gigi and Gray, because an enemies-to-lovers/brother’s-best-friend romance sounds like so much fun. And the chemistry is already electric!

Loved this one. 4.5 stars!

Small town romances are my actual kryptonite and after seeing this gorgeous cover I just knew I had to read Frayed. I went into this book blind and ended up so pleasantly surprised. This book leaned a lot more YA than I was expecting but it cemented why I really do love YA as much as I do even though I'm way passed the age demographic.

This small town romance was sweet, innocent, heartfelt, satisfyingly frustrating, swoony, a little angsty and so very addictive. I loved so many of the characters (while also despising some). Adelaide & Jett were everything I was in the mood for and more. Addie had quite a lot of growing she did throughout the story & I enjoyed her development. I loved the friend group dynamic of the Magic Willows and it was so refreshing to read about characters who had a youthful charm and strong friendship even while they were going through a lot personally while navigating decisions that would help shape their future.

One of the stand out side characters for me was Addie's younger sister Clementine. Everytime she came on to the scene I couldn't help but smile. She was such a joy & I'm hoping she will get a story of her own somewhere down the line. I really connected with the way the story was written and even though this was my first Laura Pavlov book it definitely won't be my last.

This COULD have been a 5 star read. But the ending with everything with Alec ruined it. Some characters do not deserve redemption and authors need to realize that.

There were also multiple other loose ends that never got tied up. It is a stand alone series of a friend group so maybe they’ll be tied up in future books while they’re side characters.

Otherwise I mean it was a good book and worth the read.

This book is very PG13 in my opinion...
The h is a doormat people pleaser.
The H deserved better, cause he was the real deal.
She was a good girl, but she was always thinking about everyone else!
That whole ordeal with Alex in the end, just annoyed the hell out of me.

Her mom was a piece of work!

It's kinda of puppy love, highschool senior year, with a bad ex boyfriend.

This book annoyed me cause I didn't liked the heroine, but I liked Jetty and all the friends, so I'll give a try on the second book.

I really loved the other two series that I've listened by this author, I'm surprised at how cliche this one is.

This read like a Wattpad book. It’s was pretty cheesy and cringe and it felt like you were reading a book instead of becoming a part of it and getting invested into the story. But there were some cute moments.

I loved Frayed (Willow Springs #1) by Laura Pavlov. This small town, coming of age romance what I was craving: a great story, enjoyable characters, and not too heavy on the drama. Frayed was the perfect mix of sweet and heat. I’m really excited to read Tangled (Willow Springs #2). What a great start to the Willow Springs series. One-click worthy.

Adelaide has had her entire life planned out for her - her boyfriend, her extracurricular activities, where she will go to college and what her major will be. She has always toed the line and been the good girl. Until her bubble was popped, making her see everything differently. One of those things was Jett Stone - she has known Jett since Kindergarten but when he is there to help her when her bubble popped she sees him differently.

I am speechless. I devoured this book and loved every second of it. Adelaide is one of my favorite heroines of all time. I loved how she stood her ground and didn't back down from anyone. Her strength and determination was refreshing and astounding. Jett was so sweet, smart, supportive, and loyal. I loved how he refused to be another decision she had to make but always laid all the cards out for her. He built her up again letting her make decisions for herself. He was kind of perfect but for me it was Addy that stole the show. I loved her so incredibly much. The secondary characters were also super fun. I loved how both of them had a good group of friends to support them. I cannot wait to see what the rest of this series holds.

Sooo this was honestly a very good book. I was a bit worried because it does take place in high school which I honestly usually just hate but I love my girl Laura Pavlov so much that I am legit reading every single one of her books.

This was a super cute story and to be honest if I read it while I was in high school it probably would’ve been my favorite book ever.

Jet seemed like he was in his 30’s to be honest! I’m giving it 4 stars because it’s a GREAT story and really well written!

“Baby, it doesn’t matter where we are. When I’m with you, it’s all magic.”

This was my first book by Laura Pavlov, and it definitely won't be my last! This is book 1 in the Willow Springs series about 5 girls who have been best friends since they were young. If you love Small Town YA Romance, then this book is a must for you! Once I started this book, I struggled to put it down. I loved it! This was such a perfect start to the series.

Addy is the sweet chearleader whose life is all planned out for her. Her dad is the mayor, and life is good in her little bubble.

Jett is the broody high school star football player from the wrong side of the tracks.

Addy and Jett met when they were young. She shared her sandwich with him, and it left a lasting impression. These two come from opposite sides of the tracks but fit so perfectly. Addy's life has been planned out for her. From where she will go to college, her career, and who she dates. Until her bubble pops and everything she thought is forever changed. I loved seeing Addy realize her own dreams and that she could go after what she wanted. Addy's character development is beautiful. Jett was the perfect guy to help her on that journey. Jett is looked at as the town Bad Boy, but when you get to know him, he is AMAZING! So protective, caring, and loving. Doing anything he can to help his family and working so hard to build a future. He has his own struggles, and I loved how Addy helped him get the answers he needed. These two were so cute together, and I loved the way they pushed each other and were there for one another. I loved that their friendship developed and the journey it took them on. I could definitely relate to Addy, so I was there cheering her on along the way. I am so in love with this sweet couple both falling in love for the first time. I didn't agree with Addy on some things, but I definitely loved this sweet love story. I'm excited for Gigi and Gray next. Love their banter back and forth.😂

I was so so excited to dive into Laura’s new series! Gotta admit it took me a little bit to get really into it in the beginning. But I know exactly why that happened, it was because our heroine is with a guy who is not our hero and those situations usually frustrate me a little bit. I’m always waiting for her to drop him and when it takes a while I get pissy ahah, specially when her boyfriend is a major d*ck which was the case.

But as I got to know all the characters and this fantastic, fun and cute group of friends, I really got into the story and fell in love with the Magic Willows. I’m extremely excited to read each of their books!

When it comes to our main characters, Adelaide had me feeling all the things. So much happened in her life throughout this book. I loved watching her fight for what she wanted, stand up for herself and taking a stand. The whole situation with her mom, Alex and his mom was so frustrating and unfair. It really got to me and had me tearing up several times. The situation was so messy and emotional, my heart really hurt for Adelaine and the impossible situation she was put through.

Jett was such a sweet guy. I really liked him and how he was always supportive and cute with Adelaine. He was very interesting. So much sides to him that just made him an incredible person. He was a great son and friend and I just adored his family.

I loved watching Jett and Adelaine become close friends and then grow into more. The time they spent together on the lake was precious, I loved reading their little moments. And when Adelaine took Jett on a special fieldtrip around their hometown, that was so cute!! Laura is known to write the best and cutest relationships and she did it once more with these two!!

Can’t wait to see where she takes the series next and these characters! I can’t wait to get to know the other girls better and meet the guys they’ll fall for! Frayed was an amazing introduction to this series and group of incredible friends and I can’t wait to get more of them!

I was one of the fortunate readers who received an ARC of this book for my honest review. Wow! This story absolutely stole my heart! The characters are so well-developed and the genuine friendship between Jett and Addy is evident in every interaction. Jett Stone is everything! He's sweet, smart, and loyal with a perfect touch of something hiding under the surface. I absolutely loved Addy's journey in this wonderfully written coming of age story. I highly recommend this one, and I can't wait for the rest in the series!

Whatever.
I’m done with this author.
I don’t rate it because I think I wouldn’t be fair to trash a book that is not badly written, on the contrary it’s well written and quite pleasant to read.
But it’s not my thang.
And I was bored and annoyed all the time.
- first of all, it’s definitely chick lit and it’s not something I like. The heroine and her girlfriends are the focus.
- they’re teenagers. Mmmmm.
- the hero is from the wrong side of the town, but he lacks all the repressed rage that usually have these kind of young heroes, he doesn’t have bad boy vibes, which is something I definitely appreciated. I don’t like those fake bad boys. He’s not. But the author couldn’t keep him completely good, actually he does that kinda clandestine fights because he’s the kid of an unmarried woman and has to help her. The. Fuggin. Clandestine. Fights. When will this cliche end?
- the heroine is a virgin because her boyfriend cheats on her and refuses to have sex with her because she’s not ready. While the hero has a lot of ONS with willing girls.
Stop this fuggin double standards. What’s wrong with these American authors? Are they really this prude and narrow minded that they think sex is dirty and wrong except with your future husband? Because this is medieval. I could accept it in those romances of the 80s because there was a lot of social pressure on women and double standards were the rule, but now it’s unacceptable.
- why is the heroine always with a cheating azzhole? Can’t she be in a healthy relationship? Really.
- ok they were not attracted to each other and were only school friends but anyway this double standard has to end. As in yesterday because it’s long due.
- so no, I didn’t like it at all and I think it’s a me thing but I prefer me and this author to amicably part ways so I won’t rate it.

THIS BOOK! My heart is so full after reading this. I fell in love with this story instantly and the more I kept reading the more and more I fell in love with the characters and the story. Frayed is a beautifully written, emotional story that will have you falling in love with Adelaide and Jett from the very first moments you meet them. Laura Pavlov is an author who never fails to deliver a romantic story that delights, and this was no exception.

Frayed is a heartwarming and beautiful coming of age romance. From the moment you meet Addy and Jett, you can just tell their story is going to be special. The push and pull between them is instant and consuming. These characters are so lovable and relatable. And holy swoon did Jett Stone steal my heart! He was on another level. He was so unexpected and had so many layers. I loved discovering every layer. He was a beautiful soul and just needed the right person to see past his facade. Likewise, Addy was strong, sassy, and fierce. Together, these two were a match I just couldn’t help but root for. I loved watching them trying to figure things out and just couldn’t wait to see how their story would unfold.

This story is filled with so much heart and hits all the elements when it comes to small town romances. Frayed truly is a sweet and addictive story. The characters will capture your heart and leave you screaming for more. Frayed is the perfect start to the Willow Springs series and I for one can not wait to see where this series will go next.

This was a sweet romance between two high school seniors, I liked how they slowly built from friends to falling in love and that they took things slow. They were both so good to each other and the story was nice and romantic. The one downside for me was I felt like her mother’s actions and the ex-boyfriend and his mother just acted way over the top and the heroine forgave them too easily. But overall, it was a sweet story that I enjoyed. I will be checking out the next book in the series about her friend.

I love his love for addy. everything about this was just so cute and pure. I love the friendships and how addy was apart of a friend group of girls that have been besties since they were children and they even had a book of memories that they kept and updated. it was giving sister hood of the traveling pants except they are in the same town. this book really got me in the spirit of back to school and made me so incredibly happy! thank you Nina for recommending it to me. i can’t wait to read the other books in the series!
