Danger doesn’t lurk in the shadows. It barges in and smacks you in the face. After years of working in the Emergency Department, Sara thought nothing could surprise her, but when the deceased victim of a stabbing opened his eyes and demanded his knife back, she knew her life had taken a bizarre turn.
Leszek had guarded the magic of the Nether before the first human set foot in his lands. His power was absolute, his authority unchallenged. The world might change, but even ruling from the shadow, no one, not even hardened criminals, dared to question his judgment.
When he was called to clean up the mess an unruly vampire caused in the hospital, Leszek barely contained his irritation when his power couldn’t make the stubborn doctor forget his existence. Instead, she looked him in the eye, challenging him to leave, and he listened.
Sara’s courage and audacity were intriguing, but her magic captivated him with its beauty. The magic she was unaware of. She may be human, but even humans have their uses, and Sara will soon learn there are consequences to capturing the undivided attention of the Tricity Mafia’s boss.
This fascinating woman might haunt his dreams, but Sara’s magic made her a target for a dangerous, emerging power, and Leszek has to decide if he will sacrifice her to save his domain.
Olena Nikitin is the pen name of a writing power couple who share a love of fantasy, paranormal romance, rich, vivid worlds and exciting storylines. In their books and out, they love down-to-earth humour, a visceral approach to life, striving to write realistic romances filled with the passion and steam people always dream of experiencing. Meet the two halves of this Truro UK-based dynamic duo!
Olga, a Polish woman, has a wicked sense of humour with a dash of Slavic pessimism. She’s been writing since she was a small child, but life led her to work as an emergency physician. While this work means she always has stories to share, it often means she’s too busy to actually write. She’s proud to be a crazy cat lady, and together with Mark, they have five cats.
Mark, a typical English gentleman, radiates charm, sophistication, and an undeniable sex appeal. At least, he’s reasonably certain that’s what convinced Olga to fly across the sea into his arms. He’s an incredibly intelligent man with a knack for fixing things, including Polish syntax in English writing. If you give him good whiskey, he might even regale you with his Gulf War story of how he got shot.
Olena Nikitin has done it again! By far one of my favourite authors I've found this year!
Magic and Medicine by Olena Nikitin is a paranormal urban spicy romantasy with everything you want and more. Slavic mythology, vampires, werewolves, and witches, with a mafia aspect. It was a delight to read!
Our fmc, Sara, an emergency department doctor, is suddenly immersed in a realm of magic when she sees a dead man come back to life after being stabbed with Chernobog's dagger. And when this man's boss is unable to use his compulsion on her with his magic, she is thrust into a world where magic is real, and she has the potential to kill gods.
The narrative unfolds with an exceptional and distinctive storyline, boasting a rich tapestry of well-crafted characters. Everything about this book is simply extraordinary.
I really liked Sara, her dark humor, sarcasm, and resolute determination. She often confronts challenges with a strong sense of resolve, although her emotional reactions can be unpredictable... in a way, she reminds me of Ina from the author's previous series, Season's War. And Leszek, I love him so much!! He was once a powerful deity now a mob boss, he exudes an aura of power, dominance, and devilish charm. His affection for Sara is unmistakable. I loved watching their romance progress.
It has a nice mixture of fantasy, romance, and action and doesn’t only focus on the relationship between the main characters. I can't wait for the next book in this standalone series, Fangs and Family!
This is first time that I'm reading a book from this author but I can already tell that it won't be last. I love this book. There are not many books that brought ALL FEELINGS but this one did. From laughing to crying and all in between.
The plot was great. The characters are top notch. Steam and spice, chef's kisses.
On one hand we have Sara as a strong and badass FMC, she is funny, she is caring… and she did annoy me at couple occasions, but that is alright.
And then on other hand we have Leszek… aghhh.. love him, he is that possessive, obsessive, strong, feared, only soft for her, morally grey character that I know everybody will love to read and swoon about. I mean come on, he's God an that has its perks (I'm talking about those extra parts😉)
Then there are those tiny tropes like: "you are mine" "I own you" "touch her and 💀" "who did this to you" like how can you not like that, it just brings that dark-ishness to the whole story.
And them togather; constant tensions, the way they push eachother away but invisible pull is there, angst, everything was on point.

✨️Honestly, it's 2am and I just finished this book, but I can't wait to see what author has in store for second book in this series.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I loved how Sara and Leszek meet I don’t know why I found it so funny and Sara calling him Mr. Vein man had me dying 🤣. The sexual tension between them two from the start was undeniable!
Leszek really would burn the world for Sara. He was possessive and I bloody loved him. There were a few moments when I wanted to hit him across the head but he genuinely wanted to take care of her and ensure she was safe even if it had her hate him.
Sara’s world literally takes a whole 360 turn when Leszek enters her life. I’m sure anyone would be mad having your world changed so fast, in a short span of time which would cause anyone to lash out. So it completely understandable when she does but having her eyes opened to what’s truly going on in their world helps her learn more about herself which I loved. I loved seeing Sara grow into the women she was always meant to be and seeing the acceptance from people close to her definitely helped her not hide from who she is🥰
Jarek broke my heart! People saw him as weak and underestimated him because of his age but he shows them time and time again that they shouldn’t underestimate him. Jarek was one of my favourite characters in the book!
I love the whole world building. It’s not something generic or anything I’ve read before which I truly enjoyed and the writing flowed and had me hooked!! It was funny, spicy, sad at parts and had me wanting more! It was a world wind of emotions!
I would highly recommend picking it up. It’s an amazing read and I will definitely be re-reading it and reading more of Olena’s work!🖤
I went into this book excited as it is based on an older heroine than you usually see in this genre. The action scenes were well written and fairly frequent and when the spicy scenes took place, they were well written too.
This was a great paranormal fantasy, romance book. It felt more like a standalone rather than the beginning of a series. The different creatures throughout were described well and fit into the flow of the story without seeming like they were just added due to popularity.
Although this book sits at the 400 page range, it feels a lot larger. Generally the pacing suited the story well, however occasionally the story seemed to drag as the lead characters had arguments made worse by miscommunication and running away. To be honest, this got on my nerves a bit throughout.
The book gave a strong thriller vibe with multiple action scenes that drove the plot forward. The story changed between Lezsek’s and Sara’s POV’s allowing the readers insight into their thoughts and feelings.
The plot was explained well and didn’t seem to have any plot holes that I could pick up on. There were occasional sections of explanation that worked well to explain everything that was going on without seeming dry.
The conclusion of the book was very satisfying with a detailed ‘fight scene’ that tied up all the loose ends. There was also a lovely epilogue 1 year in the future that showed how the main characters turned out and was used to bring closure to a beloved characters end.
I really enjoyed reading this book.
It has a nice mixture of fantasy, romance and action and doesn’t only focus on the relationship between the main characters.
I feel that you can read this book as a standalone as it seems to wrap up nicely.
I would recommend this book to those that want to read a fantasy book with romance as the underlying fact and not the main act.

This is a paranormal urban spicy romance with everything you want and more. Norse mythology, vampires, werewolves, and witches, with a mafia aspect. It was a delight to read!
A fantastic storyline based on an original idea. I loved the whole world building. It’s not something generic or anything I’ve read before which I truly enjoyed and the writing flowed and had me hooked!! It was funny, spicy, sad at parts and had me wanting more! It was a world wind of emotions!
It was a book I couldn’t put down until I finished it. The relationship between the FMC and the MMC is steamy. It’s a book that will make you laugh and cry.
Sara, an emergency department doctor, is thrust into a world of magic when she saves the life of a wounded werewolf. This newfound knowledge entangles her in a perilous web of danger because of her attraction to a vampire named Leszek. Leszek is guarding the magic of the Nether in the forest domain and falling for this human girl against his better judgement.
“Magic and Medicine” by Olena Nikitin was a fantastic and confusing book. I really liked the Norse mythology that’s mixed with other fantasy monsters like vampires, werewolves, and witches. The world building is confusing sometimes, especially with the antagonists which seem like an afterthought. I loved it when Leszek said, “I burn for you”, I think my heart stopped for several minutes. I also like the pictures in the book, I thought it was a unique touch. The humor in the book was good and added to the relatability of the characters. 5 out of 5 stars, I really enjoyed it.
That’s a book I couldn’t put down. Sara, the female protagonist, ER doctor is a strong woman that doesn’t shy away from danger nor gets scared easily.
As for the male protagonist, Leszeck, he is to die for. The relationship between both characters is steamy. It’s a book that makes you laugh, bothered and cry.. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Leszek is called to clean up the mess a vampire made in the hospital. He couldn't make the pretty doctor, Sara, forget about his existence... He's intrigued by her magic and person....
I like the paranormal world in this book. It's an interesting idea. Sara and Leszek have good chemistry together. An entertaining book.
Nice to see an age gap romance with the FL over the age of 21 and she’s already established in her career, so not too big of a power/finance imbalance.
Charming and sarcastic vampire dude? Nice!
Sexy forest, mobster with a beard! Kinda cocky but the FL is strong willed and isn’t allowing him to walk all over her.
Middle: Jesus she’s annoying and can she stop calling Adam a bloodsucker?! He’s a vampire call him what he is. Imagine if he went around calling her by a disrespectful borderline racist name when talking about him, she’d be rightfully upset.
And now I’ve lost all respect for her and don’t give af about her anymore. “I wasn’t raised to be a victim”
Really? That how you as a doctor think when it comes to seeing a DV victim in the ER? You empathize with her but your internal monologue persists that it could never be you because you were raised by stronger women to never be a victim?
And now she’s lashing out at the one person who can keep her safe, like yeah it’s all his fault when even if you never crossed his path eventually you would have been in danger anyway, because you don’t know what you are or how to control your powers.
This is book one of the Amber Legends series. There is one prequel novella, which is amazing as well called Moonlight Shift.
Sara is a doctor and works in the ER. One day a cardiac arrest comes in that is clearly gone, but they go through the motions anyway. When the man comes back to life and grabs her arm, she sees visions that really freak her out.
She is kidnapped and brought to a warehouse where she has to help save a shifter by doing surgery. Sara is so confused because she realizes she has a strong urge to be with him but doesn’t like that she didn’t have a choice in the matter.
Les has a strong attraction to her too but he is unsettled by her, knowing she’s a seer. He knows that he will have to make decisions on whatever to keep her or let her go.
This is an amazing PNR book and I am really looking forward to the next book. This is the first thing I’ve read from this author but I will be watching for others and reading them when they are released!!! This world is so well written and the details are mind blowing. 😍😍😍
I will start this review off by saying that I appreciated the trigger warnings at the beginning of the book from the authors. I also received this for free from NetGalley, and am not getting paid to review this.
With that said, that is one of the only positive things I took away from reading Magic and Medicine.
This might be a little all over the place, so bear with me as I try to go through my scribble of notes…
The core idea for the story intrigued me. The description of the book sounded unique, and it’s what initially drew me to want to read it. However, whatever plot was described was completely lost in grammatical errors, sloppy writing, (example: the FMC calling the MMC by name, then a page later stating she doesn’t even know his name), and little to no world building.
I’ll be honest, I had no idea what was going on for more than half the book. There was no buildup, and everything was extremely rushed. There was no time to get to know the characters before we are thrust into this world that, even now, I could not describe to you. We are only told it’s in Poland and that magic and magical creatures exist.
The sex scenes were very, VERY hard to get through. They were awkward and not written well at all.
The chemistry between the FMC and the MMC was non-existent, but if you enjoy a MMC that claims a woman as his before he even really knows her, this might be for you.
There were TONS of info-dumps that attempted to world build, but it was like reading a language you aren’t familiar with. I was left scratching my head every other page.
1.5/5 stars, bumped up to 2 for the general idea of the story. It could have been good, but the execution was terrible.
I enjoyed this book. I loved the unexpected lust/interest and growth in the relationship that they had. I really enjoyed Leszek being “touch her and you die” with Sara. I loved he wanted to help her control her magic and help teach her to control her power while she was helping him get his avatar back which is his true form and she accepted him in all his forms. Her friends were so understanding and true friends. I hope book 2 is Nina & Adam.

Sara is a doctor in Gdańsk, Poland and had always felt different, when something weird crashes into her ER life takes a left turn and a whole new world of magic and danger opens up before her, along with a tall handsome stranger.
This book feels so visceral and real, despite being filled with magic and Slavic gods. The relationships are heartbreakingly realistic and the way our protagonist deals with her feelings and circumstances keeps you gripped till the end. Loved it
This author has done it again. A fantastic storyline based on an original idea. Fantasy romance can get a little stale at times, but NEVER from this author. 💚💛💚
To start I do want to say I got this book early and free courtesy of NetGalley.
The description of this book was super fun but unfortunately it ended up being confusing and hard to read at times. There was essentially no world building which made it hard to stay invested in the story. In my opinion, for a fantasy/paranormal novel to be successful it needs very clear descriptions of the world and the creatures within it. Vampires, werewolves, witches and gods are always written differently depending on the author, and there were no clear descriptions of any of them throughout this book. There were also many names that would be mentioned with no explanation as to who they were or their relationship to Sara or Leszek.
As for the mafia component, I didn’t think it was necessary. There was enough going as is, and tense relations with the Russians just seemed like too much. I also would have loved some background on the relationship between humans and magical creatures.
Overall, this story could have been interesting but it needs some major editing and revising.
Sara is an experienced emergency doctor who has thought she's seen it all, when she sees a dead man come back to life after being stabbed with an arcane dagger. When the dead man's boss is unable to remove Sara's memories through magic, she is thrust into a world where magic is real, and she has the potential to kill gods.
Magic and Medicine is a truly unique story that is part mob drama, part medical drama, and part urban fantasy with a heavy eastern European flavor. Sara is an extremely believable emergency doctor with just the right amount of black humor, sarcasm, and grit. She largely tends to respond to challenges with sufficient backbone while acknowledging her lack of knowledge in the magical arena. However, her emotional responses are a bit more erratic. Leszek is a diminished god who now operates largely as a mob boss. He has extreme alpha-hole tendencies but clearly cares deeply for Sara. It is overall fun to watch as they learn to work together and fall in love.
My main complaint with this story is it largely loses steam about half-way through the book. This is largely due to a tantrum Sara throws after a traumatizing event. While the outburst was very understandable, it results in Leszek and Sara not interacting for a month. Romantically, Sara has a history of dating overbearing men and she actively complains about how they wouldn't listen to her or consider her desires. But when Leszek takes her demands that he leave her alone seriously, she is then upset that he gave her the space she asked for and worries that he doesn't care for her. But Sara doesn't really try to show Leszek that she cares about him, or that she really is interested in him. She tries a few weak attempts to contact Leszek but quickly gives up when it doesn't work. She then decides to engage in a risky outing to get his attention. Given Sara's age and maturity level, this section of the book made me want to pull my hair out in frustration. Then, when they finally start to work together again, it is presented like they are madly in love with each other, but it rings hollow given their month long silent treatment of each other.
Once the middle slow-down is completed, the story does pick back up and is extremely engaging with all the side characters more than pulling their own weight. Well worth finishing.

Set in a world where paranormal mobsters help run the streets, Sara gets suddenly pulled into the underworld when a vampire accidentally ends up in her hospital. Discovering she’s actually got powers of her own, she has to team up with the Lord of the Forest to stop an ancient evil from rising.
Mafia romance meets Slavic mythology is such a unique concept! There’s vampires, shifters, witches and so much folklore woven next to the thrilling action. As Sara finds herself indebted to the local mob boss, Leszek, she learns that her powers are being hunted by an ancient god who wants nothing more than to tear their worlds apart.
Sara is a really strong woman and it’s so nice to have STEM representation alongside fantasy elements. She knows how to take charge and lead in tough situations, but is then happy for Leszek to take care of her. The local mobster is also a forest god/shifter, who falls first, is madly possessive and definitely has a primal kink 🔥
The more the two work together, the hotter their attraction burns. While the romance is great it never overshadows the main plot, which twists as the two uncover more about the threat to their world.
If you’re looking for an urban fantasy with mafia romance vibes and Slavic mythology aplenty then definitely check out Magic & Medicine!
✨ Thank you to Olena Nikitin for providing a copy in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own ✨
A fantastic mixture of paranormal, action, mystery, magic, mythology, drama, romance and spice. This had the interesting concept of an ancient god living in modern society heading a mafia style empire, and the human doctor with a hidden identity and powerful gifts. The pair are drawn together inexplicably by fate despite their fights against the bond, and the tension, bickering, lust and denial played out throughout. It has a great pace with drama and action, character growth, and a sense of dire stakes from the looming threat of evil forces. With loyal friendships, a cat familiar, magical powers, wolf shifters, vampires, God's, witches, a fierce and independent FMC, and a passionate but possessive MMC... what's not to love! Includes enemy to lover slow burn romance, spicy scenes, and possessive touch her and die vibes.
Chaotic. That is the one word that describes this book, but by no means in a bad way. There is always something happening keeping you on edge throughout the book, when you think all is well, it most certainly is not!! My emotions were on a rollercoaster ride all the way through.
I can't say I LOVED the two main characters, I found myself shouting internally at Sara "NO Don't DO THAT! WHAT ARE YOU THINKING?" ALOT. But I did love the side characters such as Nina and Adam, I'd love a spin off about them! The author has a way of making you fall in love with characters which has you hooked, then she breaks your heart, just a heads up 😅
There are so many good things about this read, I would highly recommend it when it releases!

This book had a really strong start. I loved how Sara and Leszek initially met and immediately wanted to read more. There were also some great laugh out loud moments with Sara. The conversations she would have with her cat were hilarious.
My biggest issue is the plot and pacing. I don’t think this book should have been as long as it is. I got a little over halfway and barely anything significant had happened. After that point I felt like it was really dragging and I just wanted them to get to the big confrontation with the dark god.
Overall it was a very entertaining read and if you like insta love, magic, and mafia romance, I would definitely recommend you check it out!
Thank you to the author for sending me a copy to review!
3.75 stars! Magic and Medicine was such a fun urban, paranormal fantasy romance. I absolutely loved that it took place in Tricity, Poland and brought in elements of Slavic mythology.
Sara is an doctor living a seemingly mundane life. Except sometimes she sees things that aren’t really there. But she chalks that up to her vivid imagination. UNTIL…a man that should’ve died on the operating table comes back to life, revealing a world of magic *which her imagination didn’t invent.* Oh and that man? He’s a vampire. and his boss is kind of mad.
Said boss, the magical & enigmatic Leszek, is the ruler of the Tricity mafia. he soon reveals to Sara a world of magic. But, there’s a budding conspiracy. someone is after sara’s newfound power and wants it for themselves. Sara & Leszek must find a way to stop the attackers before it’s too late.
The premise of this book had such an autumn aesthetic and felt magical. I did find it a bit difficult to get immersed in the setting because the world-building wasn't totally clear. I felt my mind wandering and taking me out of the story because I had many questions about the magic system. I know some people don't like info dumps in fantasy books, but I find that they help me fully grasp the context of the story.
The banter between Sara and Leszek is what made this story. They were both so funny together, and Sara's quips had me laughing out loud.
Thank you so much to Olena Nikitin and MTMC Tours for sending me an ARC copy of Magic and Medicine! As always, my reviews are one hundred percent voluntary and all opinions are my own :)
I really enjoyed this book. The author did a good job of building the characters and storyline. The FMC’s self talk was relatable. Maybe too relatable - I mean we all talk to ourselves, right? We self-talk about our choices, justifying doing something or not; processing our thoughts and actions, and of course reading into everything our prospective partner does or says…totally normal, lol. Bottom line is, this is a really enjoyable read. Not overly dark and can easily see this becoming a fun series.
I had to let this sink in for a moment. Because I just didn't expect this book 😜. I really liked the world building, thought of with Norse mythology and Slavic mythology. I was already familiar with Norse mythology, of course. But not yet Slavic mythology. So it was very surprising for me. And all this in 1 book wow. Furthermore, this book had mafia aspects with Vampires, werewolves and Witches that I have been a little crazy about lately. Hihihi definitely recommended! And looking forward to the rest of the books
Finally a book about Slavic mythology, being from slavic world myself, it means a lot to me. I love both main and all side characters. It is fast paced, interesting, fun, explosive, mysterious, spicy and I could go on and on. But I won`t. You will just have to read it. :) It`s a must.
Thank you, thank you, thank you again for this advanced copy. I love it.
Great book, really well written! Spice was DELICIOUS 🤤 loved all the characters! The plot was definitely interesting! The growth of the FMC was perfect and believable. There is alot of books out there that when one of the main characters world gets flipped upside down, they just go with it. This book isn't one of them. Truly amazing book! Olena you have done an amazing job 🥰
Wow I really enjoyed this book the main character is strong woman called Sara it’s full of supernatural characters though out I loved the way this author wrote the book I haven’t put it down all day 😊 can’t wait to read more from this author and if you’re looking for spicy scenes this book is for you Would totally recommend it
This book is packed with so much detail, it is intricate, beautifully written, and Sara is hilarious! It would be impossible for me to tell you about this book, because I’m still reeling after finishing it. It is clear that a lot of work has gone into this book, there’s so much information. It’s got all that you need, magic, supernaturals and a love that is sizzling hot! Loved it!
This is such a great read. So much depth and character building that I cannot wait for the next book. I love how strong Sarah is and how Leshy just perfectly balances her.
