A flirty pirate nymph. A lonely virgin doctor. An MM Fantasy romance with mutual pining, opposites attract, playing doctor, and an HEA.
Everett serves as the doctor on the Naiad’s Revenge, but he is too shy and bookish to fit in with the boisterous pirates. So he spends his time alone in the ship’s infirmary. Except when he comes up on deck to watch the stunning water nymph Kythe sing. Everett doesn’t just admire Kythe’s voice; he yearns for the naiad. But Kythe shines so brightly. How could he ever care for a dull, inexperienced virgin like Everett? At least Everett can watch Kythe sing.
Easy-going and beautiful Kythe has a secret. Whilst he enjoys the company of many, he only has feelings for one person, the ship’s doctor. At first, Kythe barely noticed the doctor. Everett is so reserved and unassuming. Then one day, when being treated by Everett, Kythe saw his quiet passion and intensity. And when Everett touched him, it awoke something inside him. Kythe can’t stay away. He reports every scrape and bruise to the doctor. He flirts outrageously. Still, Everett seems oblivious. Or more likely, he just doesn’t want Kythe.
Is there any chance for two who pine so strongly for each other? Or will old wounds and their fear of rejection keep them from finding love?

Everett and Kythe assume many things, both about themselves and the other and instead of talking about it and being sure that their assumptions are correct they let themselves be carried away by fear and insecurities until it is almost too late.
I was crying the whole time, first because of how Everett's father teased him and then because of how lonely Everett felt, but between tears I also laughed a lot at Kythe's clumsy attempts to make his interest in Everett clear.
But as always, the story is not only about the romance between the characters, there was action and fights, suspense and betrayals.
I liked that everything related to the battle against The Order was almost in the background, since Everett does not participate in said confrontation and the story is told mainly from his point of view it makes sense that it was like that.
As always, I liked the book and will wait impatiently for the next one. 🥰
Thanks to the author for the ARC 🥰. This is my honest review and opinion
3.5 stars Another edition to the Naiad series with Everett and Kythe’s romance. Everett was thrown out of his home at 23 for being gay which his father didnt like one bit. He finds captain silas’s ship and asks if they need a doctor. Everett had his life planned out but now hurt and with nothing. That was 6 years ago onboard the Naiad’s Revenge ship. A great or not so great first meeting for Everett and Kythe but Kythe helps him. Everett has a crush but it may be returned back although the Doc had no experience with the naiads flirting. Everett learns about love for the first time since setting his eyes on Kythe. But the young chap doesn’t think hed have a chance with the sexy naiad with the silky voice. More pirate adventures and dramas fighting the Order against there wrong doings. An enjoyable book to read, this one didn’t resulte with me as much as the other books in the series. I would have loved pov chapter heading for the characters to been included. The book is written in third person pov switching povs for an HEA.
I enjoyed this book probably more than some of my other 3.5s from this author, but I had noticed some slipping towards easy fours so here's me getting myself in line.
Like usual with a history of several years of mutual pining, I find it quite implausible that nothing really happened in all those years these two have been circling around each other. But I really enjoyed this couple together when they finally happened. I did not know I wanted some medical kink in my fantasy pirate story but it was good. The sexual chemistry in this book was fire and easily worth 4+ stars.
The drama from lack of communication is a bit extreme even though it is somewhat understandable. The adventure parts here are a bit glossed over, which is actually a shame because I've quite like the adventurous pirates in this series. I will be rereading for the sex and I'm not ashamed.
Everett was forced to leave his home after his brother and father discovered his attraction towards men. After he hurriedly packed his things, and left home, he gets jumped and all of his belongings are now gone. He's full of despair, until he hears the voice of an angel. That angel offers him a place on the ship, and after that day, Everett becomes the doctor aboard the Naiad's Revenge.
I really enjoyed reading about where Everett came from, what events lead to him joining the pirates on their ship. I felt bad for the man, he not only got kicked out of his family, but people also attacked him and stole the few belongings he had. Thankfully though, he met Kythe. I liked that we learned more about Everett, not just about his past, but also about his view of being on the ship. What he feels about certain things, we also learn why he doesn't join in on the pirate celebration's, which I really appreciated.
Kythe has been aboard the ship for quite some time, and no one has ever held his attention for long. He sleeps with a lot of people whenever he desires and sings for the crew. For some reason though, he cannot get over his infatuation with the doctor. But no matter what Kythe does, Everett doesn't ever seem interested.
Gigi really knows how to suck you into a world and how to completely captivated you within the world she's created. She writes characters that you can't help but to connect to, and cheer for. The background detail was really great, we are once again aboard the ship for the length of this book.
This book has sort of a slow burn-ish aspect, but yet Kythe and Everett do hook up fairly early on... But their relationship doesn't fully develop until later on in the story. Which I liked! Both of these characters had things they had to deal with and come to terms with, they had to realize what they truly wanted, and go for it. They both had a past that scarred each of them, for different reasons. Over the course of the book, both these men grow and learn what they want, or rather, who they want.
The action scenes are always so well depicted! I'm always blown away by those scenes in these books. One thing that confused me is that this is the most recent release in this series, yet it takes place before Naiad's Promise, which was a bit confusing.
Other than that though, I really enjoyed this book!
- First times - Fisher Naiad/Doctor - Pirate Ship - MM Romance
Everett has been working with his father and brother in their medical practice. One day at work his brother uncovers his interest and men, which leads to his father telling him to leave and never come back. Everett collects what he can and leaves with no idea where he will go or what he will do but decides to head towards the docks. Scared and running in the rain, he starts to formulate a plan on his future. While on his way, he is stopped and robbed of his only possessions and money then beaten. Everett is hurt, lost and afraid but then he hears the most beautiful voice and song that carries his feet towards it, unknowingly ending up in front of the pirate ship Naiad’s Revenge and Kythe. Everett is desperate and accepts the invitation to become the ships new doctor. Six years later you see that Everett is still on the ship and pining for Kythe from afar. Little does he know that Kythe feels the same way. Kythe was once a captured Naiad that was able to escape, then ended up with the pirates. He is a fisher Naiad that has developed a crush on the ships doctor. He begins to come into the infirmary for every little scrape or bump, even though Naiad’s heal pretty quickly, just to be in Everett’s presence.
These two have insecurities on top of insecurities that holds them back from telling each other how they truly feel. Their role play doctor sexy times are everything and really helped develop Everett’s confidence. There’s action, betrayal, lots of steam, and two people who love each other and make each other better people. I love the Naiad books in all their forms from Gigi and this is no exception. The bonus story for this book that is a steamy scene is a nice touch as well.
3.5 stars, rounding up - This author and this series is . . . comfortably consistent, I would venture to say.
The worldbuilding is quite good, and I am always drawn in by the shipboard scenes and fighting sequences. I'm not someone who visualizes a ton when I read, but these books read like a movie, with visuals that stand out to me and I can picture.
I've also come to learn that I don't like monster romances, but human/naiads, human/fae, human/shifters that are mostly human, I can handle. So, these are just my speed in that regard. And seeing the crew fight for naiad's rights against the vaguely nebulous but definitely evil Order, is very satisfying.
As for the romance in this one, we have a sad lonely human doctor (Everett) who has been cast out by his family, but never quite connects to the crew. He is very out of place in the world of pirates, but works hard to learn the best way to heal naiads.
Kythe is a happy-go-lucky naiad who flits between sexual encounters like many of his kind. But he does have a huge soft spot for the ship's doctor and invents reasons to visit him in the infirmary (that's just very cute).
I started talking about the series as a whole, bc the overarching plot does culminate in this book, which means the romance does battle that for page time, but I did really enjoy them as a couple, and their relationship crisis was believable and not too drawn out.
I have always enjoyed time spent in this world, and will be interested to see what the author writes next.
4.25/5 This is a quick, sweet read full of misunderstandings and miscommunication. Shy, uncertain Everett can’t see how bold, outgoing Kythe could possibly actually fancy him, and Kythe’s convinced Everett must just not like him because all of his flirtation has seemingly no effect. (For example, Everett is convinced based on the frequency with which Kythe comes to the infirmary with the most minor of injuries that he must be a hypochondriac. And he treats him with unfailing gentleness and seriousness. It’s incredibly sweet and totally hilarious at the same time.)
Both of them have issues in their past with their loved ones not treating them as they ought, leading them both to be shy about committing (or declaring their commitment). It’s understandable but frustrating, lol, watching them completely misunderstand one another. I would have liked a little more time with them just spending time together in non-sexual intimacy, but they were definitely enjoying that part. (Playing doctor made me laugh, but it sure worked for them!)
I enjoyed the resolution of multiple threads, along with some good hints for what’s coming in the future. It was so nice to see Everett settle into his place on board, not just with Kythe but with the crew at large. They both seemed happier together, which was lovely to see.
I look forward to the next book!
I received an ARC from the author. This is my honest review.
I love Gigi’s books because they pack an amazing amount of emotion into a shorter length book. This was no exception. Normally, I’m not a massive fan of miscommunication as a trope because it feels artificial and like it’s sole purpose is to draw out the story. With Everett and Kythe though it worked so, so we’ll because it felt natural to the characters; it was written so well and so humanly (so to speak) that it didn’t feel like a plot device, it felt like two people who were drowning in their own insecurities and blinded by their own assumptions about their worth to others. That’s not to say this was a book where the characters are annoyingly woe is me - they weren’t, they were just people. People who’s experiences shaped how they perceived themselves. People who struggled to see their own value and that others could love them just as they were. And people who were understandably scared of the hurt that comes with rejection. Sometimes it just feels safer to never ask because no matter how much that might hurt, it feels like it will hurt less than asking and being told no. I’m so glad though that they did finally see how much they cared for each other and were to get their HEA. I think they might have become my new favourite couple!
‘Kythe took a breath, feeling like he was revealing too much, but he needed Everett to see how glorious he was. “When your eyes fix on me and your hands are on my skin, every nerve and every cell of my body comes alive and trembles with need for you.”
I absolutely adore Gigi Rivers’ Pirates and Water Nymphs series, and A Pirate’s Song, book four in the series, is another wonderful example of an MM fantasy romance.
Kythe, a beautiful naiad pirate with a lovely singing voice, has had his heart broken in a past relationship, so just finds warm bodies to help him through the hurt, until Everett joins their crew as the ship’s doctor.
Everett has been banished by his father and is looking for a way to survive, when he hears a beautiful voice down by the docks. He chooses to be brave and travel with pirates, which works out in his favor, as he gets to spend time with the attractive Kythe.
It is always exciting and brings warmth to see a couple get past all of their struggles to find their hearts’ desire!
I have absolutely loved all Gigi Rivers' Naiad books so far. The only reason this one gets a 4/5 instead of all 5 is because the main issue between Everett and Kythe is communication. HOWEVER, they make an adorable couple, and there are some truly steamy scenes, which were delightful.
Everett feels out of place on the pirate ship, and doesn't even realize how much Kythe wants him. They're both suffering from lack of self-esteem in different ways, and it makes them slow to come together and slow to trust one another.
I loved how Everett slowly began to trust Kythe's feelings for him, even as Kythe struggled to believe Everett's feelings and that Everett would stay with him. I do wish they would have just talked more! They were sometimes frustrating in that regard, but I understood why both Everett and Kythe had so much trouble expressing themselves, and their struggles felt very real.
Overall, extremely lovely, and I definitely recommend this whole series!!
I have loved this series. The exploration of the shy doctor finding himself and realising he finally belonged was wonderful. Everett found the courage and let Kythe get close to him and it was quite surprising to see how kinky the once shy doctor was when exploring the physical side of their relationship. Much to Kythe's absolute pleasure and surprise from the very experienced flirty naiad pirate.. "That was the best sex ever."
Even though there was some miscommunication it was expected given Kythe's abandonment issues and Everett's inexperience in intimate relationships. However this didn't cause many issues once both could acknowledge their feelings for each other even at a distance across the bows of two ships.
Throw in another battle with The Order and two double crossing thieving pirate Captains and their crew, you find out what the crew of Naiad's Revenge is really made of.
I have loved every single book in this series, but I will honestly say that this one with shy and insecure Doc Everett and gorgeous playboy naiad Kythe stole my heart. I loved being in Everett's POV as he tried to understand all of Kythe's antics. Kythe new from one touch that he was emotionally connected to the Doc, and he wanted so much more than he has ever experienced before with all the others. Kythe keeps coming to the infirmary for every little thing just to flirt with Everett. Everett is overwhelmed and confused as he does not understand Kythe's interest in him. It is cute but a little sad from Everett's POV as he truly does not understand why Kythe is attracted to him. These two were both insecure in such different ways and they expressed it in different ways, but I could just feel the love and fondness for each other as they navigated beyond their pasts to be together.
So much pining. So many assumptions, so many miscommunications, so many feelings– Everett and Kythe are both lovely, and the opposites attract dynamic is strong. There’s plenty of chemistry, but they each have insecurities and baggage to work through before they get what they want (very, very clearly what they want is each other, but see above list about assumptions and miscommunications). The backdrop for their developing relationship, beyond all the misunderstandings and quiet longings, loops through some plot threads for the larger series, and altogether, it makes for an enjoyable read.
*I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
I liked this book. I do wish there was some way for Kythe to find out why his previous mates left him, just for some closure, but maybe we will find out in a future book? This story was good, and Everett and Kythe were cute, if frustratingly dumb about talking to each other. I like the found family aspect of this series a lot, as well as the pirates kinda being/doing good. I never trusted that effer Bennett!
I had never read this author before and I am glad I got the chance as I will definitely be reading more of their work. This was a totally enjoyable book. The angst, the problems that need to be resolved, the want and need of them both made for an exciting and enjoyable read. If you love MM stories, then this will be one you should truly enjoy. I know I did!
Great. I enjoyed this series so much. The storyline was great with lots of exciting moments and characters. Everett and Kythe are a pleasure to read and are perfect together. I am excited for more in this series.
Gigi River's has written another highly enjoyable and engaging Naiad book. I thought that Everett and Kythe's story was wonderful, I really hope that there are more books to come!
He is the doctor on the pirate ship but he is shy and only joins the others on deck when they sing. He feels a pull to them and he does not believe he could even have a chance with them. Will he get that chance? Can love bloom for them both? See how it will all go
4.5 stars. Favourite so far. The miscommunication/lack of communication is still an unfortunate trope used, but this time it fit better because of who the MCs were and what they’d been through. Excited to see how it all ends.
i adore this series so much but every single one relies on the miscommunication trope or one of them pretending they're not in love with the other to avoid being hurt and it PISSES ME OFF!!!!!!!! 5 stars tho idc
I was so fascinated by this book. I had to go back and read the other ones in the series. This book was by far my favorite. I absolutely loved the storyline of it. The characters were so lovely.
I absolutely love this series and this book was no exception.
Everett lost everything until a Naiad with a beautiful voice saved him. He was sweet but all kinds of shy, awkward and reserved.
Poor Kythe flirted away like crazy with Everett who was totally oblivious to Kythe’s interest in him.
These two had to navigate through their misunderstandings and fears which wasn’t easy. It was amazing watching Everett finally coming out of his shell and mingling with his crew mates. The events towards the end had me in tears but I was rooting for them every step of the way.
Fantastic addition to the series!

“If only you could see yourself through my eyes, then you’d see how beautiful you are”
What a great addition to the series, Pirates and Water Nymphs. This is both a sweet romance and a swashbuckling pirate story. I'm so glad that Kythe and Everett got their own story. Kythe always the flirt and Everett always so serious... opposites definitely attract in their case.
The battle continues with the Order. Deceitful actions put the crew in danger.
I loved seeing all the characters from the previous books, it's nice to check in on them.
Opposites attract, brings the heat, homophobic parent, hurt/comfort
