To serve the pack, I must touch the untouchable girl.
Cassie. Shrouded in darkness, I watched her when we were children, helplessly drawn to her light.
She’s always been the one woman I could lose myself in. It’s an obsession I’m only able to shake when we’re separated at puberty, and I find new purpose guarding the pack borders. But I’m not prepared when I’m selected for the breeding program and find Cassie in a heat-induced-lust-state begging me to take her.
Behind the ram’s mask, my identity is secure, and I’m free to let loose the beast within.
It’s part of the program.
Natural.
Expected.
I just have to find a way to make sure it ends there.
Pack above all.
Cassie
Ecstatic to be chosen for the breeding program, I’m thrilled my dream of becoming a pack mother can come true. But I have to survive the program first, and with no exposure to men since puberty, the thought of a slew of masked strangers visiting me during my heat is terrifying.
Or it should be terrifying, until the heat takes hold, and the man with the ram’s mask enters my room. With his firm touch, he puts all my fears at ease and plays my body like it’s an instrument he was born to.
I want him, but I find myself craving more than our brief encounters in the breeding room.
I want to know him, and with all paired breeders being housed together between heats, he’s here somewhere among the men of my dorm.
Something tells me that when I unmask him, it’ll all make sense.
Game on.
Breeders is a dual POV, dystopian, lycan novel. You can expect the following tropes.
I enjoyed this book. I found the concept to be original and interesting and I enjoyed that it was about Lycans.
Traditionally in omegaverse the main concept is find a mate, bite a mate, mate a mate and breed. But what happens when you take all that away.
This book is based in a kinda post-apocalyptic world where humans have basically wiped themselves out and due to certain circumstances love, mates and mate bonds are forbidden, hence the breeding program.
The characters and settings were well written, though in some parts I did find Cassie to be a bit dense.
Nah. I’m good. I know people love the other woman/man BS but I am not one of them. The last thing I want to read is the MMC lusting over some other woman and learning about how often he’s fckd her just to pivot and say how much they couldnt stop thinking about the FMC.
It started really well. I enjoyed the beginning. It lost me a bit in the middle and I just didn't feel as into it. But I think this is because I like my books to be raw and edgy. I liked how it ended. I was curious as to how it was going to go! The last half of the book was so good (see raw and edgy lol). The story drew me in and kept me.
I received this book as an ARC for my honest review.
3.5 really! Didn't quite seem to merit a 4 star, but I enjoyed it more than not, even with its flaws. Taking place in a dystopian post-apocalyptic world, humans have destroyed each other and Lycan's are the dominant species of the planet now. In this particular pack, they have a somewhat totalitarian society. The pack Alpha has decided there should be no romantic relationships and everything should be done "for the good of the pack" because of this, there are no traditional families, there are specific "breeders" who go into heat and basically have a breeding train run on them of masked men. The men know who they are, but the woman doesn't know who the men are. Then they all go live in the same housing for the month until they find out if the women are pregnant, where it's basically one big free love orgy all the time, supposedly to make pregnancy "more likely" even though getting pregnant outside of heat is extremely rare. This is just the start of the many plot holes or conveniences in the book. While it's a convenient way to have the H and the h develop relationship, it makes no sense in the context of the world that they would have this. Why go to all the trouble of making the breeding anonymous only to narrow the pool significantly by having you interact with all the potential mates and then encouraging them all to have sex. Of *course* relationships and bonds are going to develop there. It's completely counterintuitive to the entire mission of the anonymous breeding program. Especially since the men all know which women they're breeding, so the odds of who's breeding who being revealed seems to increase significantly by doing this, when the odds of pregnancy due to long term exposure is minimal. Doesn't seem worth the risk for a society that is adamant about not developing personal relationships. The next ridiculous thing is the author tries to "hide" who the H is by calling him "The Ram" (which is his mask) for more than half the book when it's beyond obvious who the H is. She shouldn't have tried to pretend it was some sort of surprise, especially since it's "revealed" who "The Ram" is in a very anticlimactic aside that rivals the reveal of the titans in "Attack on Titan". What even was the point? Meanwhile, she makes our h as dumb as rocks by having her seemingly oblivious to who the masked lover is, when again, it should be beyond obvious to her for multiple reasons. Once again, the whole anonymity thing makes no sense since all the dudes are naked with a mask and then they're all encouraged to have sex together for a month. We really don't think anyone is going to recognize each other's bodies? Alright, but enough of the plot holes for now. The developing relationship between the h and who is obviously the H is very sweet. They first start interacting when she comes out of hiding when the group leaves to do runs and the two of them stay behind playing video games. The h is incredibly shy around the others and their sexual promiscuity, so the H starts cooking for her and leaving food outside her door for her when she secludes herself and has snacks she likes waiting for her when they play video games. He goes to great lengths to take care of her and see to her needs, even though he appears shy. They start to form a great companionship and the story remains interesting, although not a lot of sex initially for a book that's supposed to be about breeding. We come into some more storyline issues when the h goes to GREAT lengths to discover who the guy in the Ram Mask is when it's beyond obvious that it has to be the one guy who's bending over backwards to take care of her. So she eventually, after another breeding cycle, where she once again has sex with multiple guys, (kinda ick to me since this is a M/f romance)she finds who's in the mask and confronts him. He finally admits it and they hole up in his room for the 3 weeks. This is probably the best part of the book. It has the hottest sex and the best emotional bond between them. Of course, all good things come to an end and when they discover she's finally pregnant, this means they will now be separated and sent back to their individual posts. The h comes to the H and says they should both just leave the pack together as mates. The H who happens to be a guard, knows the harshness of the environment and knows how difficult this will be and instead of just communicating this to the H, decides to completely sabotage their relationship by stating that he doesn't even know if the babies are his and he did all of this for the good of the pack and then takes another girl to his room, pretending to have sex with her and deciding the last memory he wants the h to have of him is as a lying douchebag who completely broke he heart because....reasons that no one knows or understand. 🤷🏼♀️ Presumably, so that she can go live a happy life with her babies, but it just seems really contrived. So heartbroken she goes home completely emotionally destroyed, with her only hope that these babies are his so she gets to keep some small part of him. Instead, she has a miscarriage and that's kinda dark af. Meanwhile, the H is miserable back at home, with his only bright spot is thinking that he's doing all this so the h can live a happy safe life. Randomly, one of the guys in his squad that was also in the breeding program has a random heart to heart with him about how much he misses a girl at the program and he heard there are packs up north that still allow mates and they should run away with them. The H says that's a terrible idea, good of the pack, treason to even say it, blah, blah, blah. He then goes back out on patrol and runs across a couple outside their border who are mates. After seeing them and letting them know it's not safe for them to enter the territory, he has a complete change of heart and decides to go with his friend to rescue their mates and leave with them. He goes and finds the h, confesses her love, she confesses she lost the babies, he says that sucks, let's run away together, she says "Let's make each other out lifemates RIGHT now!" and they do. On the way out of the territory, their squad alpha comes and brings more pack members to stop them from leaving. In a "Deus ex Machina" or a "Deus ab illa lupus" if you will, the h uses her hidden alpha force power to tell all the attackers "These aren't the droids you're looking for" and they all turn around and go home. Turns out she's the Alpha's secret daughter and they are now basically invincible. They flee up north and just decide to start their own pack and everyone lives happily ever after. A lot of holes and flaws, but despite myself it was a really enjoyable read. Cute, fun story with hot sex scenes if you just don't take the whole thing too seriously. May read the next book at another time.
I received an ARC of this book. I read a novella by the same author that I really enjoyed called lamplight and Aladin retelling. I was excited to read Breeders it’s a post a polyp tic setting where wolves are living in pacs. We fallow Cassie and Dame as they fall in love during a breeding season and break all the rules to be together. I loved the world building and the spice was great the only critic is that the story lagged at sole points but overall a great read !
Cassie has always dreamed of being a pack mother and doing her duty to the Alpha, however she doesn’t expect to find the Ram during one of her breeding parties. Now drawn to the Ram she is dead set on finding out who this mystery man is all while questioning the rules of the Pack and whether she can do her duty.
Absolutely loved this book! The characters were well written and the development in each character was incredible to see. This book has a little mystery with trying to figure out who the Ram is. It also has a decent amount of spice, I do wish the spice scenes were just a hair longer. Although the book catches you right away with a spice scene it dwindles off until you’re about half way through the book. Also wish there was a bigger twist for the end, seemed a bit expected.
Overall I love the theme of duty to your pack vs. duty to yourself and seeing how far people will go in each direction. I strongly encourage to read this book as you won’t regret finding out who the Ram is!
This book was my first breeders trope and my god it didn’t disappoint!!!! I couldn’t put it down nor did I sleep much since starting it. This book is a must read! Made me feel all warm and gooey inside with the need to change the panties.
Possible spoilers!
This book follows Cassie and her journey in the breeding program to be a Lycan pack mother. The instant connection she feels with 1 of the breeders during her heat cycle has her needing to know who he is and she will try anything to figure it out. The forbidden relationship with Dame makes her realize she has fallen in love with him and they are in fact mates. But the pack forbids mates ‘Pack above all’.
Faye Knightly has written an incredible job creating the post Nuclear world and the need to protect the pack from any outside threats (Humans). The characters are very well developed and the grow throughout the book. The love shared and expressed between Cassie and Dame was beautifully written and left me wanting more.
I was privileged to be on the ARC team and my opinions on this book are my own 🥵🥵

***spoilers*** The best turn of events in the end! Although I was confused about what made this a dystopian read. I feel like it wasn’t mentioned much about how the human population dwindled and why mates were forbidden. The concept behind the breeding system was crazy hot! So Cassie is excited to be breeder bc she loves the thought of being a mother to read her stories to. While in heat she is used until it dies down. The only one that seems to satisfy her the one masked with the rams head. She becomes infatuated by them that she is determined to figure out who it is. I LOVED that Dame cared for her so much and fed her when she was too shy to come out of her room. But once she figured out that he was the ram, he had to do everything possible to keep her away and safe now that she is pregnant. Unfortunately she lost her babies and now Dame can’t handle their separation any longer. He goes after her and plans to take her away. Jace really had some nerve trying to stop them! Little did we know that Cassie is actually the daughter of an alpha! She commanded them and they obeyed. They have decided to run their own pack and save those that are mates and used to breed!
This was a different type of wolf shifter book but I didn't hate it. The dynamics are not like anything I've read before. There are no packs in this book. But it was a good read! Cass enters the breeding program because they're aren't packs in this books, it's explains why as you read. Men come in, wearing masks to hide their identity, help her through her heat hoping for a pregnancy. Then she gets to live in essentially a dorm apartment with a mix of guys and girls. But they aren't allowed to know who was with them during their heats, hence the masks. There is pregnancy loss in this book as a warning ⚠️
You meets some of the guys but Dame is a quiet guy that loves to play video games just like Cass. Well they hit it off and it goes from there. You learn a lot about how things work in the world of the book. Pretty good chase scene in the woods 😏
Spice 3/5 scenes we're good, and had pretty decent spice content. Plus spice through out the book. But nothing too steamy.
Tropes: Fated mates Secret identity Grumpy vs sunshine
I'm freely giving my review as I received an arc of this book. Thank you to the author for the opportunity!!
I really enjoyed this story. You don't normally see Lycans in most shifter books especially one without packs. Check trigger warnings before reading.
***Possible spoilers!
This is sort of set in a post-apocalyptic world where humans have basically annihilated themselves. This community of Lycans do not have packs due to past history of violence. Now they use a breeding program.
Cassie has a dream of being a mother. ame is a guard who has been chosen to participate in the breeders program. Masks are worn so the woman does not know who the potential sperm donors are.
Cassie is then sent to live with the males while waiting to see if she is pregnant. There she finds solace in a Grumpy gamer.

Loved every second reading this book. Lots of insights on the main characters that gives a great insight about them, their insecurities and how they overcome them. Also the idea of the breeding program being the oposite as many werewolves stories and yet keeping the mates trope as an important part of the book gives a very refreshing point of view on the topic
Was sent an arc for a honest review but so glad I asked for this one I'd been craving a shifter romance for a while and this one hit the spot! Check your triggers there's some darker themes but for the cinnamon roll of a lone geeky wolf it's soo worth it! Love the suspense at the beginning and the fact that even though it's dealing with mates it's not insta love, insta lust yes but with a smidge of suspense which was something I've not read before and ate that up! Great read thoroughly enjoyed!
This stunning book revolves around Cassie and Dame, two Lycans who meet as part of a pack breeding program. As they get to know each other, they realize that they are mates and have fallen in love, which is forbidden in their pack.🥲
Faye knightly does an excellent job of creating a vivid world of Lycans, their customs, and the way they interact with each other. The story is well-paced, and the characters are well-developed and relatable, which made it super easy to connect with them. 🥰
The developing love between Cassie and Dame is beautifully written 🥹, so much so I felt like I could feel the intense emotions that the characters experienced.
The book is a perfect blend of romance and fantasy and I found myself engrossed in the story from the very beginning.
Overall, Breeders is a must-read for anyone who loves the Omegaverse, fantasy or romance books. It is a lovely book that left me wanting more.
I had the privilege of ARC reading this book but all of my opinions are my own 💗
Love above all First of let me just say this book is amazing! I went into it mostly blind with only a hint of what it was about and not sure what to expect. So when I got started I realized I had never read a shifter book like it.
In a dystopian world where most of the humans have died off and the lycans have taken over, our story is focused on Cassie and Dame. After deciding that mates and family ties created to much of a problem in the past during the pack wars the alphas of the main packs set into law that in order to keep the pack functioning and safe mates are forbidden and the breeding program is the only way to become a pack mother.
After being selected from men once she reached puberty Cassie has grown up dreaming of the day she would become a pack mother and add her own babies to the children under her care. I. Order to do that she must enter the breeding program where she will have carefully selected and anonymous men visit her during her heat in an attempt to impregnate her. And then she will remain with her group of breeding males as well as other breeding females and males. It is her duty to the pack and the only way she can achieve her dream of becoming a mother.
Dame being a member of the guard knew he would be a valuable breeding male and does his duty to the pack and alpha with no complaints. Tht is until he walks into the room his and sees Cassie strapped to a gurney in the throws of her heat begging for him. Knowing he is half crazed and can’t possibly know who he is behind his mask he is easily able to take her despite knowing her as a child and having always thought of her as his sunshine.
This book is so unlike any I have read before and I loved that. The world building and the way the customs and rules of the packs are written had me feeling every bit of the emotions the characters were experiencing.
5 stars for this dual pov, kinda slow burn romance. There were a few spots mainly near then end that had me fighting back tears. Thankfully it didn’t end on a cliffhanger( my heart wouldn’t have survived it). The only thing I wished was that there was a little more to read about whst lead up to the last chapter. Aside from that I can’t recommend it enough
I'll give this an easy 3.5⭐ but it could have easily been 50-70 pages shorter and been all the better for it.
The first 100 pages were pretty repetitive and dragged endlessly, but I could see where we were headed and I'm glad I stuck with it. Once the relationship hit, I was fully bought in even though I could feel the cliff looming. The tension once we finally reach that breaking point had my heart hurting so much for Cassie and Dame.
The Good: - I enjoyed the dystopian setting and the "new normal", for better or worse) that this pack of Lycans has fallen into in the times since the fall of humanity. - The contrast between the lightness felt once Cassie and Dame's relationship started in earnest with the sense of dread at the back of their minds because of their inevitable deadline, was super well done and really set me up for the fall once the conflict hit. - An absolute light throughout this book was Tristan. He was so sweet and such a good friend/support system for Cassie, and I loved seeing them together. - I loved the ending. It's what I want every ending of a dystopian (romance) novel to be.
The Meh: - The way our MCs were written was a bit inconsistent through the first 100 pages, but this did eventually smooth out. - The beginning was repetitiveeeee and I found myself having to put it down a couple times to keep from skimming. - There were some things that I felt weren't well explained, but if you squint a little and don't think about it too hard, you're fine.
Note - do not go into this expecting an omegaverse, because it isn't one. I have no idea why people have it tagged that way. These are wolf shifters with heats and loose hierarchies within groups (honestly it isn't super well explained, but once I stopped expecting OV rules, I enjoyed the read much more). There are no alpha/omega dynamics per se, and only one "main" alpha who rules over an entire city.
Cassie has been chosen for the breeding program. Only a select few in the pack are picked for this honor of becoming a mother, based on genetic markers, schooling achievements, and physical appearance. That doesn’t make Cassie any less nervous or unsure of herself when it’s her time to be strapped down during her heat and used by men also chosen for the program to be her perfect matches.
The Ram is a warrior, doing his duty and hoping that he might have the joy in fathering a pup. Not that he’d be able to raise them, but just the idea that he’d be a part of growing the pack with the best pups possible, is enough.
Neither of them expected to feel anything more than duty, or the thrill of being a parent. That idea starts to fall apart when they realize there’s more between them than just breeding.
Cassie is determined to find who The Ram is, meanwhile The Ram does all he can to keep up his walls. Their happy ending isn’t meant to be, it’s forbidden…right?
Artwork throughout is stunning. Breeding scenes both during heat and outside of Cassie’s heat cycles are hotter than hell. Solid escape for 245 pages and worth a read for those shifter romance lovers out there.
The book is set in post apocalyptic world where human have nothing left. The wolves have taken over and we are introduced to our FMC. She is a wolf in breeders program where the females are bound when they go into heat. The male wolves then help the female through her heat cycle while getting them pregnant. They are masked to keep them anonymous.
There is a pack first rule, so they cannot form forever personal bonds with anyone and their duties to packs comes first. Instead we find both our characters drawn towards each other as they explore their friendship and eventually fall in love.
But being together is forbidden, thus the story follows push and pull of the relationship, their desire to be with each other and eventually making sacrifices to be together.
I enjoyed how it was written. The pacing was great I didn’t find myself skipping anything. The dual POV made this book much better as we get to see their relationship development. Overall, I enjoyed reading this book so much that I finished it in a day!
I read this back to back with another omegaverse and I definitely enjoyed both. Getting introduced to the Breeders world was fun but also made me anxious somehow.
I think I hated how their world was setup, had soooo many thoughts about how it sucked really, and I knew that there would definitely be a heartbreak somewhere for me in the book.
I just knew that such world/society would fail bad enough that the main characters’ hands would be forced to take drastic actions. I was glad it was an awesome and satisfying ending.
I was going to rate this 4 stars, but I HATED the third-act breakup. I LOATHE other woman drama. Sure, it was brief OWD but it had such a horrible effect against the FMC and I was livid. I also wished the MMC groveling was better but the ending was enough to make up for it.
I had the pleasure of reading this book as an ARC. When I first started it, I thought "what have i gotten myself into". If you go down that path, keep reading. The dystopian world is seriously messed up but mates always prevail. This is a beautiful story of how mates want to beat the system they were bred into and almost brainwashed to cave to. Cassie and the Ram will suck you into their world and hold on tight. I could not put this book down until it was finished, and then I read it again because I can't get enough. If you are into shifters with heats and plot to go with it, this book is for you. And there are a couple of twists that you won't see coming which just adds to the fabulousness of this story!
Be sure to see the TW, especially because there is a big one for some.
Thank you Faye Knightly, for allowing me to be a part of the ARC group. I can't recommend this book enough, and it will definitely be added to my favs.
This book was quite the ✨️spicy✨️ little treat. Who doesn't love masked men action? The spice was on point, and the balance with the plot was done really well. Sometimes, there are so many scenes that you get bored with it. This was not the case in Breeders.
We get the best of both worlds here. The smutty multi-partner romps mixed with budding forbidden romance. I was surprised at the amount of emotion and the quality of writing. More often than not, these types of books are a bit lacking in all areas besides the smut.
I felt there were a few issues/plot holes, but they didn't bother me so much that I was annoyed for the rest of the book. I also didn't really care for the final twist, but I would still recommend this read.
This was different than anything I've read in awhile so it definitely grabbed my interest and held it!
Man, did this book make me cry. I knew from the warnings it would out me through it and it did, but I loved it.
But the romance was good, and I loved the forbidden aspect of them being mates. (But it wasn't insta-love so huge bonus points foe that). The smut was also 🔥

Overall, if you like fantasy and post-apocalyptic stories, check this one out!
i got the ending i was hoping for!! its been a while since ive read a book about lycans & i really appreciate the authors take (& twist) on pack life. sometimes these books feel a little repetitive but this was not that. the only reason i didnt rate it five stars is that i prefer high stakes & this doesnt have a huge climax. there was some tension near the end but it was quickly resolved. not bad for a standalone though!
A truly unique spin on the wolf-shifter genre. Here, bonded mates are forbidden, females raise their young together in pack-style nurseries, and males exist only to contribute their essence for future generations.
This story leans into forbidden love in a sharp, twisted way—where physical connection is allowed, but emotional attachment is the real crime. It’s tense, compelling, and impossible to look away from.

This book took me by storm! I had some difficulties in the beginning as it has a completely different set up than any other pack/shifter/omegaverse book I have ever read but it quickly drew me in and I DEVOURED it! The struggles that the main characters had were very understandable and for once they didn't infuriate me! Excellent book and well deserving of 5 stars!
