Rate this book
When their families and jobs are on the line, can these two unlikely lovers find what they need to fulfill each other’s fantasies?

Jamie didn’t go looking for the perfect dom, but during one, wild weekend that was supposed to be a rest before the storm of the new school year, the perfect, newbie dom found him. He’s never connected with a play partner like that before, and once the weekend is over, his deepest wish is to find him again and build something true and real outside of the scene.

He should have been careful what he wished for…

Aled only got involved in the BDSM scene on the suggestion of a family friend as a way to deal with a family tragedy. He didn’t expect to find a perfect, older man who would submit to him and make him feel like everything outside the scene would be okay. So when he turns out to be Aled’s advisor at university, he has no idea what to do. On top of that, how can Aled balance a relationship with the challenging demands of his broken and traumatized family?

His family means everything to him…but could Jamie mean just as much? How can he choose?

Professor Problems is the third book in The Legacy series…which tells modern-day stories of the men of The Brotherhood. It involves a kinky weekend getaway, a jealous ex, giggling and flogging, ethical conundrums, a heartbreaking past, a sister who needs all the love and protection she can get, and, of course, the nearly two-hundred-year-old organization known as The Brotherhood. You can read more about the origins and Victorian doings of The Brotherhood in The Origins and The Brotherhood series.

2,5* - Where to begin- the book felt a unready to me - the first part while these guys where meeting was crafted out quite okay. I don’t know much about the BDSM/dom/sub scene, but it felt quite realistic.

This was also the most steamy part and to my surprise there was no top up or even equally similar part later on. Who starts with shooting all their arrows?

The whole story after the initial weekend and the tropes following were just weak. The ideas were good but the execution was just too streamlined. All the problems which came up were solved to easy and without much hitches. No hidden relationship vibes, no real struggle about the kink- where was the kink in the second part? No real struggles with the ex- I mean that could have been a much more exciting storyline- but no! One week of rumors and one event and that’s it? So yeah- what could have been a good book was actually a bit bland and not what was promised… that made the characters also did not get a chance to live up to their potential…

Just didn't grab me.

This book just didn't grab me like the other ones did. To be honest, I skimmed through the chapters only hoping that something would hit me. Nothing did.

Jamie goes on wild weekend hosted by The Brotherhood that was supposed to be a rest before the storm of the new academic year, He’s introduced to Aled & both have never connected with a play partner like that before, and once the weekend is over, their deepest wish is to find each other again and build something true and real outside of the scene. So imagine their surprise when Jamie turns out to be Aled’s advisor at university.
The third book in the series & it’s easily read on its own. I loved both Jamie & Aled, both had lots of baggage but their connection was immediate & the chemistry between them was off the scale. I loved how Jamie helped Dawn & in doing so eased the burden on both Aled & Jeremy. I also loved how Jamie & Aled were there for each other & prepared to make sacrifices for each other. Another very well written quite emotional story which had me tearing up at times as well as laughing
My review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Professor Problems is the third book in the ‘Brotherhood: Legacy’ series. It stars Jamie, a university professor and sub, and Aled, a college student and newbie Dom. This is told in third person from both Jamie and Aled’s povs.

The blurb does a good job of explaining the plot so I won’t go into it much. This is the second book of the series I’ve read and the subject matter is very different from Book Two. Jamie showed up in Book Two at the beginning and the end. At that time, he was still looking for a Dom with indications that his last Dom didn’t work out. Fair warning, this is a BDSM story. It is not vanilla BDSM. This is about a sub that enjoys pain, force, and being pushed to his limit. If that isn’t the type of story you like to read, don’t read this book, and then complain that you don’t like BDSM.

I often review covers because they represent the book. Sometimes they are spot on, and other times not. The cover model for this one does not represent either Jamie or Aled. Aled is described as having blond or golden hair, so it’s not him. The first time Aled sees Jamie, he describes Jamie as having soft brown hair down to his collar. The cover model does not have brown hair. The model has jet black hair which doesn’t mesh with Jamie’s description at all. Jamie’s family is also British royalty, and the cover model’s ethnicity doesn’t fall in within the generic white royal looks, the little that I know of it that is. I even went back to Book Two to see if Jamie’s appearance was described more clearly, but it was in reference to his glasses. So, I give the cover design a grade of ‘C’ because the model isn’t Jamie at all.

I’ve recently discovered this author’s contemporary and historical stories and I’ve been enjoying them. She has a knack for revealing the complicated psychological and emotional reasons of what people crave and do what they do, and how they come to accept their situations. In this story, Jamie is an older sub, and Aled is a younger Dom who has had the responsibility of caring for his younger siblings after a family tragedy. Aled has arrived at the Brotherhood’s event at the suggestion of his mentor, Kit, who is a mutual friend of Jamie’s, for some relaxation and some time to get away from Aled’s responsibilities. Kit has told Aled that Jamie is an experienced sub and to trust Jamie. Aled and Jamie click the first time they lay eyes on each other. Aled was unsure on how to start the scene with Jamie, but Kit observed for a bit and helped Aled get started. Once alone, Aled and Jamie fell into their play as if they’d known each other forever. Often in books that are erotica and say the couple fall in love from the sex, I can’t believe it, because there isn’t any emotional or psychological aspect to what is happening to the couple except for a lot of kinky sex. But in this book, I could believe that Aled and Jamie’s relationship blossomed when they started with BDSM. They found, and matched, what was an intricate part of who they were. From there, they dealt with the outside influences that crept in and impinged on their relationship.

Aled was the caretaker of his younger sister and brother. This happened because of a tragic event involving their parents. His sister’s psychological and emotional problems from the event creates some of the conflict in the plot. The tragedy also has Aled feeling that in some way he should have prevented it, should have seen it coming. Jamie’s calm presence and advice help Aled and the sister’s panic attacks. Jamie is a professor at the university. He counsels new students on classes, life situations, and emotional issues. Jamie must deal with a stalker ex-boyfriend who once was his Dom. Their relationship had grown abusive and Jamie had grown emotionally and was trying to move on, but kept falling back into play with his ex at events, until Aled showed up. However, the ex was vindictive and found out that Aled was going to school at the same university where Jamie taught. There’s more drama involved but I won’t go into it. I don’t want to get in too deeply about the ex, but I can see partly why he was the way he was. He only had Jamie so he held on, and refused to grow emotionally or psychologically. Maybe things would have been different if he had. Instead, the ex tried to keep their relationship the same as always, abusing Jamie to do so.

Overall, I enjoyed Professor Problems. It gives good insight into a consenting BDSM relationship that is not vanilla. The one thing that bothers me the most, is the cover model doesn’t match the description of Jamie. I liked the characters and the way the author handled the emotional and psychological problems and solutions. I recommend this book to those who like BDSM, and enjoy an older submissive man with a younger Dom. I give this a solid 4 Stars.

Jamie & Aled
Rating: 4.0 ⭐

- MM Romance

This is the third book in this part of the series and it stars Jamie, a university professor and sub that we meet in Oakley book. This one is definitely different from the first two with adding BDSM into the mix. This is not vanilla BDSM or dainty, so be prepared for that going in and if that isn't your type of story then move along and don't read this. A small pet peeve of mine is that the cover model doesn't match either MC in the book, besides the suit and glasses he's wearing to match Jamie supposedly. The blurb also gives a good description of what's to come during the read.

Jamie is attending one of the Brotherhood's regularly scheduled kink weekends when his friend, and sometimes Dom, Kit tells him that there's a new Dom that he thinks will be perfect for him and that he even trained him personally. Aled is a young man who went through a terrible tragedy 5 years ago that has put him in a place of being his siblings caretaker. He has developed a maturity that many don't grasp at twice his age and because of his experiences developed into a natural Dom without even realizing it. Kit, who is a family friend, has been helping the family and helping Aled find his way in the community. Kit has invited him to attend one of the scheduled kink weekends and meet a perfect sub for him, Jamie. This particular weekend the guest have been instructed to remain anonymous, which comes into play after the weekend of course. When Jamie and Aled first lock eyes with each other they immediately know they will have a special connection. Once they start to play it feels natural to them, as if they've been together for years instead of just meeting. They have the best weekend with each other and miss each other dearly afterwards, so imagine their shock a week later when Aled walks into his new advisors office to see that it's none other than his perfect sub, Jamie.

These two couldn't stay apart from each other even when they tried to talk themselves into being responsible about it. They will have to combat secrecy about their relationship on campus, family interruptions, as well as, deal with Jamie's horrible ex that refuses to let him go. I could understand why Jamie let Ronny's mess go on for as long as it did, but boy did I want to shake some sense into him and kept yelling stand up for yourself more at my ereader. In the end Ronny gets his and I cheered, naturally. I enjoyed watching how Jamie, even as the sub, was able to helped Aled heal some of the pains from his past trauma and helped Aled grow as an even stronger Dom. They were each others missing piece that gave the other the strength they needed to be better people and better for the people that needed them the most, Aled's siblings. I'm glad that Jamie was able to help with Dawn and that Aled's family immediately took a liking to him, giving him the family he no longer had after being disowned when he was younger.

The latest book in the modern-day continuation of the Brotherhood series does not hold back! BDSM and steam-heat lovers, dive right in and bring a hand towel to mop your face because this one comes out of the gate hot. Includes an older sub–younger dom dynamic, and a forbidden professor-advisee conflict. Terrific natural conflicts and tension.

I love a good “jealous ex” thread too, and this one has a real entitled jerk who tries to get in the way of everything. But I digress.

When professor Jamie arrives at a Brotherhood kink weekend, he wants nothing more than to be taken out of his head and hurt so good. A former dom and good friend has someone he thinks Jamie will work well with, a new younger dom, Aled. In fact, the two men are a great fit and spend an incendiary weekend together, with some unfortunate but ultimately ignorable encounters with Jamie’s entitled and pushy ex dom.

Back in the real world, Jamie’s a professor of psychology, and the new semester’s starting. Guess what slightly older but still a freshman student is one of his assigned advisees…!

Aled has difficult family commitments. Jamie’s his professor and advisor. They shouldn’t work, and yet, their connection is strong and won’t be denied. Facing family traumas and that difficult ex complicate things exponentially, but, in Merry Farmer’s capable hands, you know they’ll get through it and love will triumph.

A delicious and slightly scandalous read, with moving subplots and unconditional acceptance.

My personal quibbles are that I’d have loved more development of Jamie’s issues with his family and his backstory—it seemed as if he wouldn’t have ever talked about it with Aled if Jamie’s ex hadn’t been an utter egotistical jerk and revealed it to Aled, and they never do really talk it through. That felt like a miss. I also wanted more depth to the conflict and how the issues with the ex play out. Jamie’s back story feels glossed over, and the issues with his ex are rather tidily resolved. I also could have done without all the winks and nods to his previous interactions with Kit and other doms, but that’s a Me problem. I’ll own it. Although, given that was included, why didn’t we hear about any of the subs Aled learned with? How much practice did he have under Kit’s tutelage? Did Kit teach him by having Aled sub for him? Or what? I don’t actually want to know, but, the BDSM background info was a bit overly one-sided.

HEA, younger dom/older sub, professor-student, BDSM. No cheating or emotional cheating. Recommended, as is the entire series.

My thanks to Booksprout for the ARC; this is my free and impartial opinion.

Next up in Merry Farmer’s The Brotherhood: Legacy series book three is “Professor Problems”. The university professor in question is Jamie Croft and one of his problems is his involvement with university student Aled Keal, a young man he met at one of The Brotherhood’s organized anonymous kink weekends prior to the start of the next semester. Another problem is Jamie’s ex, Ronny. Ronny wants Jamie back and is stalking Jamie using dominance and submission in an effort to control Jamie outside of the bedroom. What a great story with well developed, interesting characters. Aled is a dominant, even though he hasn’t had a lot of time under his belt, he was a natural Dom and had an excellent mentor who turned him onto the lifestyle in an effort to overcome heart wrenching parental trauma. Jamie is a submissive. His parental trauma was of a different kind, his parents and sister disowned him for being gay, which led to a host of problems and Ronny, who wanted to dominate Jamie and make him dependent 24/7. The moment Jamie met Aled, Jamie instinctively knew the relationship was going to be different. The two got on splendidly from their first scene together, understanding on a deep level what the other man craved for satisfaction. Each man wanted to explore more. Jamie and Aled fit together perfectly, they were able to give the other what they needed to renew and refresh their psyche. Their sexual chemistry sizzles off the pages. Unfortunately, Ronny was jealous and he began to sabotage Jamie personally and professionally as well as undermining Jamie and Aled’s relationship. He was obsessively desperate to get Jamie back under his control. This story was a page turner until I was finished. The kink is probably way out there for some however, I accepted it as an aspect of the story and the lifestyle of the individual characters. The stories in the Brotherhood universe keep getting better and better with unique characters and plots that fit the appropriate time frame. This is a scorching m/m romance with prevalent bdsm and heavy on the kink. Definitely recommended. I can’t wait for the next Brotherhood installment.

Professor Problems by Merry Farmer is the third book in The Brotherhood Legacy. It’s Jamie and Aled’s story. They met each other at a kink weekend retreat when their mutual friend Kit matched them up. They spent one hot and kinky weekend together before the school year started. Jamie’s ex-boyfriend and ex-dom Ronny is there, and doesn’t take too kindly to Aled pairing up with Jamie.

Both Jamie and Aled are surprised when Aled walks into Jamie’s office at the university when he’s meeting his new academic advisor. Jamie has managed to keep his kinky side a secret from his university colleagues, but it may be difficult to maintain the separation between his personal and professional life when he and Aled have obvious chemistry.

Some say that the mark of a good book is one that makes you feel strong emotions. Professor Problems certainly did that for me. There were several points where I became so frustrated with a couple of the characters that I was talking to my Kindle. Jamie is a professor of psychology and Aled is a psychology student. I suppose I don’t have the temperament for that profession. Both Jamie and Aled have trauma in their pasts, but it was Aled’s sister, Dawn, who was most successful at pressing some of my buttons. I did enjoy Jamie and Aled’s happily ever after!

I’m looking forward to Ellis’s story, and I’m also hoping to hear that Jamie and Aled’s matchmaker, Kit will get his happily ever after. I also haven’t forgotten about The Brotherhood’s historian, Casper, either.

It was fun to take another visit into the world of The Brotherhood and find storylines that sensitively handle to effect of severe childhood trauma with an eye toward supportiveness and healing. In this book, Aled is a man in his mid-twenties who is making some changes in his life. At the guidance of a family friend, he's now entering the kink scene as a new, trained dom, attending his first BDSM retreat. It is who he is and he's looking forward to exploring more on his own. He's also a survivor of a violent family episode that has left emotional scars on his sister, brother, and him.

Jamie is a natural submissive who is looking forward to attending the retreat. Jamie is a university professor and advisor who has his own family rifts and deep hurts. He's also broken up with a former boyfriend and dom five years ago. The dom turned borderline abusive and it was time to end it. Unfortunately, the man won't let go and Jamie finds himself caving in to old patterns by doing scenes with the man from time to time.

When a mutual friend connects Aled and Jamie for the weekend, the connection is instant and feels like more than a weekend meet-up. The next week, the two are surprised to find out that Jamie is Aled's new academic advisor. Aled had delayed his entry into the university due to caring for his two younger siblings who are now adults.

Can these two men find a life together when university politics, threats from Jamie's former dom, and family traumas crop up? This book has well-written and realistic scenes around mental health issues, a positive treatment of the kink lifestyle, and a beautiful forever love that started as hope and continues as a promise.

Jamie never expected to find the perfect dom during a wild weekend getaway, but his connection with Aled — a newbie dom — is unlike anything he’s experienced before. What begins as play sparks a deep longing in Jamie to build something real beyond the scene. For Aled, the BDSM world was meant to be a coping mechanism after family tragedy, not the place to meet someone who makes him feel whole. But when he discovers that Jamie is his university advisor, their bond becomes complicated by professional boundaries, family obligations, and ethical dilemmas. As Aled struggles to balance his devotion to his broken family with his growing feelings for Jamie, both men must confront jealousy, past wounds, and the weight of responsibility. Their journey unfolds against the backdrop of The Brotherhood — a centuries-old organization — as they wrestle with whether love, trust, and fantasy can survive real-world pressures.

I loved this story about two men navigating desire, duty, and love — discovering whether their bond can withstand the weight of family, ethics, and the realities beyond fantasy. I also loved the story showed that trust and transparency are as vital outside the scene as within it and that it also explored how love can coexist with responsibility, and whether choosing one means sacrificing the other. The two men were perfect for each other and Jamie was perfect for Aled's family. Easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MM story with mature content and a BDSM-like D/s dynamic.

Jaime was happy to be going to the kink weekend. Work and daily stresses in life had become tiring and he knew that being a sub for the weekend would be just what he needed. His friend, Kit, introduced him to a new, young Dom named Aled. And from the first glance Jaime knew that Aled would be just the Dom he would need to get him out of his mind space. Aled was attracted to Jaime from the start. He saw that Jaime was an experienced sub and Kit had explained that Jaime would be willing to help him when needed as he found his feet as a newbie Dom. The only bad thing for the weekend was Jaime's ex boyfriend named Ronny.

There is a lot of kink in this book, but none of it made me uncomfortable, only in the good way! Ronny was trouble all during the book, but got his due, in a spectacular way, before the book ended. Aled, his sister and brother had been effected by a traumatic family event. Aled was the one who held them all together and kink was his outlet. Finding Jamie was the best thing that had ever happened to him.

I enjoyed reading Professor Problem and will look for the others in this series!.

Good scenes but over the top side characters

Jamie and Aled were well-drawn characters, with Merry giving us information at the beginning to understand enough about their situations, then revealing more organically as the story developed. Meeting and immediately feeling attraction, they had a weekend to get to know one another in and out of the bedroom. The way they felt comfortable and safe with each other showed, with Aled able to apply and practice his Dom skills on an experienced sub, and Jamie happy to submit to 'Sir' realising that the new Dom was already very accomplished and intuitive.
Their scenes together were very hot but I also liked the quiet moments between them at the weekend retreat then later at the university and their homes.
What I found difficult was Aled's sister who was more of a caricature than was necessary. One of Jamie's colleagues was so unprofessional, divulging others' personal information to all and sundry, and that wouldn't have been tolerated at the University. Worse still, Jamie's ex was just so over the top and the whole storyline with him was unrealistic and unbelievable. It didn't spoil the story for me but it was close.

I really love the new installment of the Brotherhood Legacy series.

Jamie and Aled both have their baggage and their kink lifestyle is a way to be just them for a while and let go of their responsibilities and past. When a mutual friend puts them together for a kink weekend retreat both realise that there is more to their chemistry than just being sub and dom.

Real life than pushes them together again and both learn to navigate through Aled's family and past and professional implications. Nothing is pushed aside, their issues are dealt with through communication and affection. I love how Jamie is carving his connection with Aled's sister and how Aled and his siblings give Jamie the family he needs.

Equally Jamie teaches Aled to be selfish to a point and let his worries go without stopping being the caring brother for his siblings.

Aled's past has led him being more grown up than most of his age and it shows in his outside-dom behavious equal to him being a dom in the bedroom. There is an age gap but you don't really see it, if at all, Jamie is often see younger as he was left to fend himself when cut out from his family.

When Jamie's ex is causing problems you can see the depth of their relationship and chemistry. I could have taken Jamie and wrapped him up to keep him safe from his ex but luckily Aled does the job brilliantly.

Even if you normally don't read books with a kink relationship, this one shows it without going into too much graphic details and the story is so much more than just the scenes.

I really enjoy the Brotherhood:Legacy books and this one is no exception. The characters are always complex and interesting, the plots are varied enough to keep the reader engaged, there are steamy times and BDSM involved, and often tie ins with characters from former books, and a bit of history about the Brotherhood.

Jamie is a university psychology professor at a Brotherhood kink weekend, looking for a Dom. He is introduced to a relative newby Dom (Aled) and the two hit it off. Both would like to see each other again, but since it was an anonymous weekend, both were afraid to bring it up so went their separate ways. It turns out Jamie is the student advisor for Aled and the two reconnect. Their relationship hits problems from Jamie’s ex, and old trauma for Aled and his siblings as they work through the ethical questions of student/teacher relationships and past hurts on both sides. Totally engaging story with a satisfying conclusion.

Jamie and Aled meet during a weekend away at a special kink gathering, they aren't allowed to use their real names, but feel an instant connection, and each man is left wishing for more when their time is up.
This book is about more than kinky sexy times though, as it delves into the serious repercussions of trauma and how each individual processes things differently.
Both Jamie and Aled are likeable, well developed characters. The storyline is interesting and has depth to it. However, the ARC I read did need some proofreading for minor errors, and it did ramble a bit, though it didn't make the story feel like it dragged.
Jamie and Aled have some ups and downs and a lot to wade through before they are secure in their love, which leads them to a great HEA.
There is a tease at the very end about an intriguing character that looks like it could be an interesting book.

Merry Farmer has invented The Brotherhood which should really be something that exists because it’s such a great idea. I love the way she has taken what was a historical series of hers and brought it forth into the present. She has a lovely way of bringing in “facts” about the history of the club that adds great texture to the story. This book has one of my favorite tropes which is older sub and younger dom. Ms Farmer does a marvelous job of sprinkling the k1nk through the book and that is presented as just normal for some people. Jamie is the older guy and Aled is the younger one and the blurb does a good job of describing what goes on. Ms Farmer leans heavily into trauma and PTSD in this story and not just that of the main characters either. Might sound heavy but as usual she balances the story out perfectly and it’s a delight to read.

Escaping the darkest before the dawn? Jamie, tooks some time at a BDSM retreat to get into a relaxed state before the school year starts. He finds his Dream Dom. He is hopeful he finds him again and they can build something new and true. Aled, finds an older sub willing to submit to a younger Dom. He is at the retreat to work through the results of a significant emotional event. After returning to the world, Jamie and Aled awkwardly find they are advisor and student. Can there be a future for them? Does Aled have the time with school and his family obligations? Can Jamie escape his trauma and find peace? There are many choices and decisions they have to make going forward. The author handles the life concerns with dignity, sensitivity and a bit of heat to keep su warm. Good story. Many social, emotional relationship trauma to work through. Well done! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Wonderful m/m stand-alone mid-series read

I’ve been a long time reader of Merry Farmer and while I usually stick to HR I had to check out this contemporary series after reading the HR Brotherhood series. With this being the third book in the Brotherhood Legacy series I was again immediately brought into the world she created. This could also be read as a standalone. We momentarily met Jamie in passing in the prior two books. However, Aled is new and we get to know each of them pretty quickly. As a fan of this author, this one is definitely one of the more spicier and kinkier of her books . I would put this as a medium level of kink. Beyond that though, I love that this author always seems to write such emotional storylines that are respectful and full of love. This one is another winner.

Love at first sight?
Jamie meets Aled during a BDSM weekend organised by The Brotherhood. That means that they are just Sir and Boy. Back to ‘normal’ life, Jamie cannot forget his Dom-for-a-weekend. Back to the university where he teaches and is also academic advisor, none other that Aled walks in his office. Relationships between professors and students are a big no-no. Fortunately, they met before their new relationship of professor and student, and Aled is older than the average student. Will their fragile connection stand against the aggression of an abusive ex-boyfriend?
These relationships between professor and student are fraught with risks certainly when the student is underage, which fortunately is not the case here.

Moving away from billionaires, two men meet at a Brotherhood retreat and hit it off as Dom/sub and kinky couple... until they find out they are also professor/student... and of course there is an evil ex...

This book was a fun read and I enjoyed getting to know both Jamie and Aled, but I did feel as if I have read this trope before with the ex interfering in things in similar ways. The kink definitely added a great reading factor and I appreciated the expanded world. I wish there was more interaction with the brotherhood itself, because this felt a bit outside the realm, but I did love that Kit was a mentor!

I look forward to more stories in this series and learning more about the Brotherhood.

First book from this author for me.
I'm a sucker for older experienced sub & younger good willing Dom trope.
And that started well but... The hist-rom specialist couldn't change her spots. Academia politics (each word scary separately so together...) of the previous century, a caricature of an asshole ex & a sister who was so non functional (6 years after the trauma, come on!) she should have been institutionalized. Then the "we should break up" noble idiocy... 🥴
About what I care: I could see the writer crafting sentences with the buzz words of the kink world like if she was next to me. Trying too hard comes across as awkward very fast. In her defense, the few BDSM play scenes were correctly executed & the basics of the D/s psychology were respected but it felt too "bingo card".

“You see?” Jamie smiled. “You’ve provided for them, now it’s time to provide for yourself.” Sir grinned at him. “Hang on. Are subs supposed to give this sort of advice to their doms?”

I absolutely loved this book. Great world building and wonderful characters. I completely fell in love with Jamie and Aled. I thought the relationship that developed early on between them was very sweet and supportive- which Aled definitely needed.

'KIT HAD NEVER EXPLAINED to Aled that sometimes a sub could be the best guide and stabilizing influence a guy could have.'

And their chemistry was scorching. But both men had demons to face- one literally- so the story had tension and suspense. I couldn't put it down and it's my favorite in this series so far. 5 stars.

"They were like kids playing."

I don't usually read student teacher romances and almost passed on this, especially when I saw the dominant was the younger student. Younger dominant/older submissive is often hard to write well. And since I haven't read any other books in the series, well, I initially passed. But I kept coming back to it and finally read the sample. It was intriguing enough to make me go ahead and sign up. I mean, I like Merry so I thought, why not give it a go. I'm really glad I did. It ended up being a really good book and I enjoyed it. Both Jamie and Aled are great characters with tons of baggage and I loved seeing them fall in love. And I didn't really feel like I missed out by not having read any of the other books.

I adore atypical kink relationships in fiction, and this one proves that chemistry and trust between the people in the dynamic is more important than experience or tradition. Farmer crafts an excellent base for Jamie and Aled during their initial encounter, hits us with the expected conflict, and then throws that conflict to the wind and gives these characters a much more interesting story line for readers to enjoy.

I might have liked a bit more conflict between Jamie and Aled in the third act, but the unique external plot(s) are so involved that I also didn't necessarily mind that Farmer kept the book short, sweet, and relatively low angst under the weight of the characters' external issues.

Jamie liked the BDSM scene for the occasional chance to escape the academic minutia that overwhelmed him during terms in his teaching job at Royal University. Aled needed something to give him a sense of control after the bloody deaths of his parents made it clear that he had no control over his life. They came together perfectly. If only Aled's family was not quite so needy and if Jamie's previous lover was not quite so...so... so.
Merry Farmer is adept at weaving together unlikely characters in believable combinations.

I liked Professor Problems by Merry Farmer. It's the third book in The Brotherhood: Legacy series. I enjoyed Jamie and Aled's story. I liked the idea of a seasoned sub with a newbie dom. I also liked that Kit, the seasoned dom that Aled was apprenticing under, was there to supervise their first scene. Aled and Jamie were great together and just clicked. I liked that Jamie was understanding of Dawn's issues and was able to teach her some coping exercises for when she had panic attacks. Ronny, Jamie's ex, was a pain, and I'm glad he got what was coming to him.

What an Education!
This story held me captivated as it bounced off the pages and kept me totally engrossed and entertained.
Before I began reading, I wasn't sure it would be my 'cup of tea' but I can say in all honesty that I have enjoyed it tremendously.
I loved the main characters with all their problems and the way that they looked out for each other and really worked at having a good relationship.
This one is not to be missed!

The professor has finally met his match. Jamie is ready to be out of his slump and finally break away from a controlling ex. It was heaven sent when he was introduced to Aled by a mutual friend and everything from their personality to their kink matched perfectly. Their relationship hit a snag when it was discovered that Jamie was a professor while Aled is a student at the same university. This book is great and the series too.

Their first meeting was incredibly intense, but their second meeting was a complete shock. Jamie and Aled initially meet at a kink event, where the young Sir dominates ‘J’ oh so good. So when at next meeting Aled is coming into Professor Jamison Croft’s office for scholastic advice, it’s just a touch awkward. These two build a most beautiful relationship, through some serious challenges, and I loved these two together. I loved the kinky, but the kindness Jamie shows to Alex’s siblings was really so sweet. A wonderful read.

4.5 stars. Very enjoyable book with excellent variations on the more typical dom/sub and professor/student dynamics. I'm definitely not a fan of student/teacher where there are conflicts in power balance, and I was very pleased that this wasn't the situation here at all. I did have to pause reading at times because of the awful manipulative Ronny though.
