Dan is a USA Today and Amazon best seller author, who wrote his first story at the age of ten and enjoys telling stories and jokes.
Dan gets his story ideas by exploring the question; What if?
In almost every situation he finds himself in, Dan starts exploring what if this or that happened? What if this person died, was hurt, or did something unusual or illegal?
Dan’s non-stop mind spin provides him with plenty of material to weave into interesting stories.
A fan of books and films that have twists and are difficult to predict, Dan crafts his stories to prevent the reader from guessing correctly. He writes each and every day, forcing the words out when necessary and has written over twenty novels to date. It’s not a matter of wanting to write, Dan simply has to.
Dan passionately believes people can realize their dreams if they focus and act, and he encourages just that.
His favorite saying is – “The price of discipline is always less than the cost of regret”
Dan likes to remind people to get the negativity out of their lives. He feels it is contagious and advises people to steer clear of negative people. He believes having a true, positive mind set makes it feel like life is rigged in your favor. When he gets off base, he tells himself, ‘You can’t have a good day with a bad attitude.’
Married with two daughters and a needy Maltese, Dan lives in Southwest Florida. A New York native, Dan teaches at local colleges, writes novels, and plays tenor saxophone in several jazz bands. He also drinks way too much wine and never, ever takes himself too seriously.
He has an active blog at http://danpetrosini.com, where you can sign up for a newsletter featuring articles, his writing and special deals.
A mystery/police procedural that moves fairly quickly, alternating narration between a small-force detective and a possible Person of Interest in the homicide of a young woman whose remains are discovered buried on his property. The skeleton remains are presumed to be related to a cold case disappearance of Katie Swift, a close family friend of the property owners. What I liked best was seeing the characters not just as workbots but also as human beings dealing with the vagaries life throws at them, including identity theft, family illnesses, financial struggles….although some issues were only lightly touched upon (how did the Lucas afford Mary Ann’s extremely expensive experimental treatment for MS?) The writing could be clearer, better-edited, but the book is dialogue-heavy and rings true, making for a quick read.
I thought I knew who murdered the victim. I was wrong. This is a well written "who done it"" that keeps the reader guessing. It is also free of foul language and explicit sexual scenes unlike so many novels today. I appreciate that.
Detective Frank Luca's back at the department and it's not long before the eponymous body shows up on Bill Miller's estate and Luca and sidekick Derrick ask him some very awkward questions which he deflects. Miller suspects the identity of the near-skeleton, but naturally he's not going to say anything when the cops come calling. Can the ME identify the remains? Did youngest brother Mark Miller kill Kate Swift?
As the Swift case develops, both Luca and Derrick are sidetracked by personal and financial issues, plus another murder, leading the Sheriff to take over the former one himself.
What leads to resolution of both cases is so unexpected, that you won't see it coming until you reach the very last chapter after many red herrings and much misdirection, that makes Buried at the Lake by the Master of Mystery and Intrigue, Dan Petrosini, absolutely rivetingly unputdownable.
Get the percolator on, with a double-shot Americano brew at the ready - you'll read all night!
The title caught my attention and I downloaded it as a read on my new Kindle Fire. I didn't realize it was part of a series at first, it reads like a single novel, so you can read it as I did and not in order. This book really drew me in and held my interest, it didn't get dry and drawn out like some mysteries do. I didn't skip ahead and go to last chapter like I do with so many other books, it was like I was on the case with Det. Luca! I will be reading more in this series for sure. Thanks Mr. Petrosini for helping find my joy in reading again!
The plot and story were very good. The dialog was good and the book was very readable. The thing that bothered me was some of the grammar and the lack of the preposition 'to'. It was if a global delete was done on the word and it made some of the reading difficult. More care should be taken in editing.
I kept seeing Dan Petrosini's Frank Luca series so finally decided to read them. All thirteen in about a month! They are great. Each one different and kept the pages turning. Frank is a homicide detective who is a genuinely good man. I think I'll read the Cory books next.
As always I was not disappointed in the book. I enjoyed the character in the story were very believable. Excellent plot development. It's one of those books that is hard to put down.
This book had my attention throughout it. It made you want to figure out the ending. The only issue I had was If you struggle with too many characters being involved, multiple small stories going on within the main plot, and tiny Grammer issues, this book is not for you. Overall great story!
This book had me hooked from the first. There are so many twists when I thought I knew what was going on, wham!! Wrong. I recommend this book for anyone who likes thrillers, mystery, and a book that hits every emotion you have. My compliments to a fantastic writer...
A terrific who done it!! Several cases to be solved and personal issues face detective Luca. This story has endless twists and turns to keep you hooked!!!
This is the first book I have read by this author. Writing style: I was not a big fan. He frequently uses short choppy sentences. During dialogues, you were often left wondering which person was talking. Book editing and proofreading: What a joke! In the kindle format, on page 186, the word It was used instead of It’s, and on page 263, there was a sentence with no period. I found another error, but failed to note which page. In a professional book, one should not find ANY errors. I was so surprised. Book content: The plot line was good at least. This is why I gave it at least 3 stars. The 2 stories concurrently made it much more interesting, and the crimes did keep you guessing. But in my novice opinion, there was simply too much referencing the wife of the detective, and her health issues. Unfortunately, her character wasn’t developed enough to care that much about her. Maybe if I had read prior books, I would have developed an affinity to her?!
All of these books in the series are a excellent . Keeps your attention to the end. Again , & its just me, there are grammatical errors & in this one in particular, a timeline discrepancy. Det. Luca told another character he had moved to Naples "10yrs ago." He actually had worked a few yrs, married & had a daughter, who in this book is 16 years old. His partner has a child who should be close in age but in the last book was 4 yrs old. Its nitpicking but these things bother me. Otherwise, this series will be enjoyed by many people & I recommend them !
The writing style is short and to the point and I liked it. The characters are well defined and interesting. The ending was partly predictable and partly a shocker. Thus is the first I’ve read if this author and I’m going to read more. I appreciate the lack of sensational sexual scenes and profanity. This book is one of many that prove you can have an interesting mystery without those elements. It’s not the most exciting book I’ve read but I did keep reading past bedtime to get to the end to find out who done it!!
I picked this book up because of the cover and the title. Never read a Luca Mystery series book before. It was a pretty good read. It was like reading a law & order episode. It mostly unfolded like I thought it was going to, I thought there was going to be more of a connection between the two cases. But it was still a fun read.
While this is a god premise for a murder mystery, the storytelling aspect is lacking. Even though it is written from two points of view, there is only really the author' voice. The style is abrupt and there are inexcusable grammatical errors in a book people are expected to pay for. Too bad.
Great reading! Surprise ending of unexpected nature!
This was my first "Luca" mystery and I will be finding another! I appreciated Mr Lucas calm problem solving and his attention to detail. This novel was time well spent. Thank you Dan Petrosini for a considerate low key problem solving detective with family and moral values.
To do the set up and some early issues didn't get resolved, ie, car accident... Not enough detail as to why Allston was being protected by miller. However, it kept me involved and was easy reading.
This was a quick yet pretty predictable story. Despite the red herrings, I had a pretty good idea who the killer was. The ebook has slot of errors in the text which was a bit annoying.
Good read with clear identification of the characters involved.
I liked the writers method of character development. You never felt lost in the story. I thought the ending was perfect but not predictable. I look forward to reading another of Petrosini's books.
A book about a genuine good dood who wants better for the world. The writing style was different for me and a little hard to follow sometimes, but it kept you guessing enough on what you were expecting the twist to be. Overall it was a good read.
As a police procedural story is intellectually very engaging. The plot is clever even if I figured out the actual murderer ahead of time. However, the characters themselves seemed empty and unsatisfying.
Yea, found a new great author with lots more books in this series
Written accurately about what it is like to have an intense personal and professional life, and how to try and balance these two most important and competing interests.
